@@aryansingh5248 That was the only non-dead rubber test that Jones ever reached 50 against the best sides of his era i.e. the West Indies, Pakistan and New Zealand led by Richard Hadlee. He played 16 such tests. In 10 result tests against those same three opponents, Jones only reached 50 once and that was in a dead rubber. In 8 non-dead rubber result tests against those three opponents, he never reached 50 even once.
@@lozpower1790 Yeah. It's important not to overrate Jones as a one day player also though. He was Australia's best one day bat from December 1986 until May 1991, and also the best in the world from November 1989 until May 1991. However, while I have him in the top 10 one day bats for Australia in the 52 year history so far, not in the top 6 - they are, in chronological order only: Greg Chappell, Mark Waugh, Michael Bevan, Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist and Steve Smith. Jones didn't have anything those aforementioned six players didn't have, but they all had something very important that Jones did not have: the ability to score big in a successful run chase of an above par target when batting second. The other thing that brings Jones down a notch is a rather average world cup record, whereas the others on the list only Greg Chappell never did anything classy in a world cup, but he only played in one.
I am from India & I have deep respect for legends like Akram. Legends like him made my childhood & teenage awesome. I feel pity of present generation who dont have legends like Akram, Sachin, De Silva, Waugh, Lara... etc etc..!!
Partially agree. Steve Smith is the better version of Steve Waugh. Like Steve Waugh or Border (in never throwing his wicket away) but with more ability. Kohli is a lot like Ponting (may be equal, may be slightly better). Williamson is the slightly worse version of Tendulkar. ABD is a lot like Viv. Hazelwood is the somewhat worse version of McGrath.
