Double century at the age of 36 in the golden era of Aussies in Australia. What a splendid innings, I must say.

When the crowd of the opposition country gives you a standing ovation means that you are well respected. And Lara was respected everywhere he went.
Especially, Australia
@@SaiBaba-zi5my well arent you a fun little racist.

We actually LOVE when our opposition puts up a fight.
We just hate mouthy little racist cuntz who are always bleating when they get flogged.
Crowd response tells u how great and respectful he was in the world
Crowd response even before he got to the wicket. This type of genious comes along once in 50 years.
Sir Hobbs, Sachin, Sir Bradman, Gavaskar had all the shots from the textbook. Lara wrote his own textbook. Part scientist, part artist, complete GENIUS. That's Brian Charles Lara.

Sachin played from the textbook? There are several shots that he invented of his own … what makes Lara’s shots look unique is that high backlift and unmistakable flair otherwise he didn’t toy much with the ball … played every shot in the textbook
@@Wild2theCore if you observe his innings, Lara had the body balance of a trapeze artist and playing exquisite shots from that position combined with the timing even with the high backlit makes it unique in its own right.
Sachin's shots seemed very novel coz combined with the technique, he scored the runs at a quicker pace. Else, like Gavaskar before him, Sachin was pretty much "by the books".
Legend. He scored 277 in his first Australian seriess. He again scored 200+ in his last australian series.that's why he is called the best ever
He got run out on that 277...otherwise it could have been 300..

Lara scored 200* when the whole team's total was 340. Shows the greatness. What a flamboyant and brilliant batsman.
There has to be a stat for the amount of times that Lara contributed over 40/50% of the teams total. Mind blowing how he didn’t relent to the pressure of captaincy either.
I think your statement is the reason why I rate him above Sachin. He was, for a long period, the WI's batting line up
Ryan Webb Could be said it was the same for ST in the first half of his career. Carried the weight and expectations of over a billion people for as long as he did and often the team crumbled without him scoring. Captaincy is probably the key difference between the two. ST didn’t have the personality for that, I think. Though aside from the amazing champions trophy comeback win against England, the WI didn’t win a whole lot under Lara.
Once sehawag also score 201 and India total score near 310.
Both sehawag & Lara have capacity to score double-triple hundred with good strike rate.
Although Lara broke Allan Border's 12 year old test runs aggregate record during this innings, and any Lara century represents the highest echelon of brilliant batsmanship, his 182 off only 235 balls 5 years earlier on the same ground was a superior innings, for that particular series was still alive, even thought the windies went on to be whitewashed, whereas this 226 was in a dead rubber.
The standing ovation when he walked into bat tells us all about the class of the Great Brian Charles Lara.
and the old traditional sporting values and ethos of Australian sporting public
@@roostersbays95 true.
The standing ovation was given because it was the last time he walked into the ground for an internal game. Same gestures were given to sachin as well in many venues around the world
@@vasudevrameshbabu3427 why do you guys jump in with unrelating comments. Who asked you why or to whom was standing ovation given or not?
@@ilovegurusahib because sachin fans are the most insecure pathetic lot i have ever seen. Every video they have to come and tell everyone how sachin is better than whoever is being highlighted. Sad tbh as he really is great but his fans are woat
His ability to come out and bat in the highest pressured situations is out of this world. Team at 19/2, walking out to face the likes of McGrath, Warne and Lee in the Aussie's backyard is an extremely difficult task to just survive. But to put on 200 (not to mention at the age of 36) just shows that Lara was in a league if his own
McGrath and Lee yes.... however Lara was an absolute beast against spinners....he averaged 57 against SL and 61 against Aus... mind you he faced off Warne and Murali a lot and came out on top on most occasions

I remember watching it live. Brett Lee was bowling a barrage of bouncers when Lara was approaching his double hundred and he literally murdered the two of them to get to his double! Such a legend !! Take a bow !
His double century in Sydney as a young man captured the world's attention. WoW !! who is this guy ??? From then on lovers of cricket could not get enough of him. He loved that Adelaide wicket. Thats a quality bowling lineup he's thrashed around the ground with McGrath Warne Lee Macgill. Legend.
I love how warne complements him ad he was leaving the field. Shane really appreciated that innings.
Even Lara's mistimed shots looks so beautiful.... He really was a Wizard!
Despite his high backlift the amount of time he has to play 90+ mph deliveries (@2:42 and @2:50 and @3:28) is amazing. If you freeze the pane around @2:43, you will see that the 90+ mph ball is virtually upon Lara, while he is still waiting with his super-high backlift, and yet he middles the ball perfectly . His bat must be coming down at lightning speed.
@Uday. Your observations are worthy of scientific reward! Congrats on that!!!
He was literally let down by his teammates who often performed poor & put extra pressure on him.
That's because his team mates didn't have anywhere near the class of the great west indies batsmen and bowlers of the late 1970s to early 1990s.
@@Bernie8330 true , he could achieved more benchmarks if his team performed better.
