And his style of fast scoring and reliable hands behind the wicket laid template and set the high standard for future stars as Dhoni, Sangakkara, Bairstow etc.
Adam Gilchrist is my all time favorite keeper batsman and one of my most favorite cricketers. Still puts a smile on my face whenever i watch these footages
It is simply unfathomable how good he was. Some of the shots he played in this inning is impossible to execute against a quality attack. And he played them throughout the inning. Simply unbelievable.
The best. I love MS Dhoni too, but Gilly pioneered the trend of Keepers being great batsmen. Created his own role in the cricket team - the Makelele role.
Sometimes you have to stop, take a breath and just reminisce at how good this bloke was. He then never missed a test match from the day he was selected to the day he retired, to average 47 with 17 hundreds coming in at number 7 is absolutely ridiculous. Greatest wicket keeper batsman anyone alive today will ever see, and an even better bloke.
One of the coolest and calmest cricketer ever. He was a great captain too. Ponting couldn't win a test match in India when he captained the side but Gilchrist won a test in India while captaining the side.

Probably the only WK who could be picked solely for their keeping or batting alone. He was that damned good in both roles that it's not funny, sure there were better pure Keepers than him and there were better batsmen who also kept wicket than him, but none were good enough to be picked for either role by itself. Only Gilly could go from a duck to a 57 ball ton in the same Test 😂😂

I remember watching this live...at one point there was a moment where no bowler wanted to bowl to him during the onslaught
Absolutely a class.act!
Not just that, I remember Flinotff bowling wide yorkers when he was in 85+ to make sure he doesn't break the record and I think he ended up reaching the century just by difference of 1-2 balls.
During 2008-2010, he had a cult fan-base in Hyderabad while he played for Deccan Chargers. Gilly mama was the buzz throughout the summer season in Hyderabad. Good old days!
What an innings. Would have loved to see him play more t20s, such a great player when it comes to aggresion.
That 17 ball 50 though!
What? T20s are the kids version of cricket. Wouldn't you rather watch him play the hardest version of the game? Were all the great players showcase there skills. T20 cricket is a money grab.
@@leeroyc4148 Yup...we would always love to watch the stars playing test cricket but kids nowadays wouldn't understand their skills amidst the unbalanced T20 leagues going on where only agricultural shots are appreciated
Leeroy C test crickets is my favourite form of the game, and obviously he was amazing at that form of the game. All I’m saying, is that because he’s such an aggressive player, I would have loved to see him go into complete aggression mode, scoring at strike rates like 250+. Anyway, throughout his test career, he showed his aggression and technique.
@@abcdef1802 he and hayden did play 2007 t20 world cup
Commentator: He's a bit rusty.
Gilchrist: Hold my rust.
The 6s he hit off Monty were great but the 6 off Hoggard at 6:01 was definitely the best shot of the innings
What an amazing player he was, definielty one of the......if not the greatest wicket keeper batsmen to play the game
Agreed
Most pathetic scene for a fast bowler , Gilchrist is a natural attacking batsman like Sangakara, the two best wicket keeper batsman
Froffies Martin
Your right Martin
Froffies Martin
Amazing player
There is no doubt.. He is the greatest wicket keeper batsman ever..
Love that innings and remember it well. Back then when Gilly came in to bat I'd stop what I was doing hoping to see something like this. Seeing Freddie Flintoff watching one six go miles over his head is just beautiful. What a player Gilly was, in this case he turned the game on its ear in 60-odd balls and all with clean hitting - just magnificent.
Respect you Sir.. Not just for this ton.. For the humanity and honesty you have always shown to the team and the game 😍😍❤❤
Freddie :- Gilly looks a bit rusty early on in his innings
Gilly:- Hold my 57 ball hundred 😂😂😂😂
If he wasn't so rusty this would've been a 30 ball Hundred 😂
Freddie ended this guys career imo - 2005 ashes exposed his ability against pace - around the wicket he was vulnerable.
@@sugs1191 57 ball century came in 2006-07 season. How Freddie ended Gilly's career in 2005????
@@sugs1191 Give it a rest, you made your point. Gawd.
@@HIMANSHUSINGH-jh5ef he was never the same. And Freddie had injuries too so after that series he declined a bit. Gilly was a great player but had he faced quality paceman of the 90s regularly he would of struggled imo. He was great but there have been better players from other nations.
A true legend for world cricket Gilly
Gilly was my all time favourite player. I think what alot of people forget is that he was also a very fair player. Many times he got given not out but walked because he knew he was out. Don't see players do that.
best wicketkeeper batsman everrrr
brendon mccullum

Gilchrist and Sangakkarra forever the best wicket keeper and batsman
In odi Dhoni was better he was consistently ranked no 1 batsman in 2008 &9
Quinton De Kock will be better than Gilchrist by the end of his career, QDK already has 15 odi hundreds and averages 44 and his only 27 years old, Gilchrist finished his career with 17 hundreds, De kock is only 2 away with plenty years left
Adam Gilchrist was one of my most favorite batsmen. The mixture of aggression and style made his batting extremely delightful to watch.
6:01 that shot is an absolute eye candy !!!
Still get goosebumps watching these highlights as I did watching it live all them years ago .. Gilchrist the great!!!
Best striker and the most genuine person that oz ever had.
What about Kevin Rudd?
Today people compare this man with dhoni....only real fans knows who he was🔥
Dhoni is nothing in front of him..
Right bro
Gilchrist was a good batsman and keeper, Dhoni was a good captain and keeper. Both good in their role.
My friend Dhoni is the greatest wicket keeper batsman ever even Shane Warne accepted it. He took over indian side during one of their darkest ever days and made them into world beaters, revolutionized cricket, he is Mr replaceable in Indian team. I admire Gilchrist but for me Dhoni followed closely by Gilly are two of the greatest wicket keeper batsman ever.
@@syedwaqarahmed5963 I dont think we were world beaters. Literally lost all test in england australia new zealand south africa, lost to pakstan in home odi. We were good at icc events for sure. By cricketing skills it has to be gilchrist, if you need to go by complete team player dhoni might be getting this one.
What a great stroke player he was..my favourite childhood hero
He is the greatest number seven ever to play the game-without exception
Yes
4:25 That was just a short arm jab & it went over 90 mts. He just times and muscles them at the same time. Special player!
WHAT a player. As an Englishman it was an utter joy to watch such an amazing player do what he did. Emptied the bars.
Just imagine if 20-20 cricket was there when he started playing younger days..... Love those sixes of the bat😉

Just absolutely amazing, watching these old highlights brings tears to my eyes
I still remember 2006-07 ashes series second test match at Adelaide. Australia needed some 170 runs to win in 35 overs or so. But that Australian team managed it so easily. Such level of determination to continue their dominance at that time. Its sad Cricket is no longer like that.
T20 is killing cricket.
Watch Ashes.. its always contains the ingredients a true test match lovers deserves
That was magnificent. Warne simply refused to accept a draw.
Quite simply the greatest cricketer in my eyes. He changed the definition of wicket Keeper batsman for ever. Every team started to try and find their Gilchrist with varying degrees of success
Without a doubt, the best wk + batsman of world to date.
Sangakara was better
Sanga was great I’d say technically better batting wise but gilly brought that X factor to a already star studded team and when gilly use to walk out to the crease you knew not to leave your tv coz there was going to be fireworks as a kid I was a Ponting fanatic still am my favourite player but gilly got me pumped up when he was out in the middle
sandeep choura Sanga hardly avgd 40 as a keeper & mostly bashed the minnows. Gilly scored test tons mostly when it mattered. Sanga became a run machine post 2008 when he played just as a batsman, by the time which Gilly already retired. Gilly redefined the role and is the best ever.

Undoubtedly the Greatest Keeper Batsman of all time bar none ❤
I watched this in a hostel in Melbourne, the whole room was glued to the big TV, we were all England fans but this was incredible to see. Live Test cricket felt like a T20 highlights package.
He is legend any time any match any team same emotion
There will be no other Gilchrist ever...legend love from India
Gilly was a proper, Frontline bat not just a regulation keeper/bat. He was a thorough gentleman too. Always walked away when he felt was out. Loveable guy!
I remember seeing this live and couldn't believe it. This is when Test match cricket was so good to watch, seeing Gilchrist bat and Warne bowling at their peaks.
"'SIR ADAM GILCHRIST"'

Among all the 27 players who had attained career best average of 58 or more only Adam Gilchrist and Clyde Walcott are Wicketkeepers. Even Clyde Walcott played as pure batsman more often than not.
This is an indication of how good Birthday Boy Adam Gilchrist was
There are very rare batsman in cricket History who Combined Beauty , Aggressiveness , Stroke making , Technical Skills , Destructiveness , Temperament , Game Reading and an All Round Batting Artistry, and Adam Gilchrist is Exceptional among all the greats who have Graced the game itself.
Adam Gilchrist is one of his own kind.
It is great to know that Glichrist completely rewrote the way wicket keepers are viewed and valued in an international team. A pure wicket keeper with a test batting average hovering around 50 was unheard of in the world cricket till the emergence of Gilchrist. And his style of fast scoring and reliable hands behind the wicket laid template and set the high standard for future stars as Dhoni, Sangakkara, Bairstow etc.
Dislikes from Monti's relatives

The sound off his bat! Amazing player. Loved watching Gilly at the crease......
Cleanest hitter of a cricket ball Ive ever seen. Legend
Not only a great player, but also one of the fairest. Always walked if he was out.
Makes him the all round best.
Gilchrist is The honest, craziest and firestorm in cricket history. Love you sir!
One of my all tym fav cricketer...always luv his batting...grt knock
Adam Gilchrist is my all time favorite keeper batsman and one of my most favorite cricketers. Still puts a smile on my face whenever i watch these footages
It is simply unfathomable how good he was. Some of the shots he played in this inning is impossible to execute against a quality attack. And he played them throughout the inning. Simply unbelievable.
When Gilly came in my mate drove down the block to pick up some takeaway for lunch, when he got back Gilly had a half century. Unbelievable innings.
The best. I love MS Dhoni too, but Gilly pioneered the trend of Keepers being great batsmen. Created his own role in the cricket team - the Makelele role.
Sometimes you have to stop, take a breath and just reminisce at how good this bloke was. Test debut in 1999 got 80 odd not out on debut, second test made 149 not out with arguably the greatest match saving partnership with Justin Langer against Pakistan with a bowling attack consisting of Wasim Akram, waqar younis, Shoaib ahktar and saqlain Mushtaq . He then never missed a test match from the day he was selected to the day he retired, to average 47 with 17 hundreds coming in at number 7 is absolutely ridiculous. Greatest wicket keeper batsman anyone alive today will ever see, and an even better bloke.
I miss this Australian team so much. Absolutely unbeatable.
One of the coolest and calmest cricketer ever. He was a great captain too. Ponting couldn't win a test match in India when he captained the side but Gilchrist won a test in India while captaining the side.
The dressing room shot where they all celebrating Gilly's century.. man... That Australian team was GIANT.
I miss those days when India, Pak, Australia, SA, SL every team was filled with legends. We lived the most amazing era of cricket.
pure entertainment, class batting with sheer aggression. Gilly, We miss you badly now.
Probably the only WK who could be picked solely for their keeping or batting alone. He was that damned good in both roles that it's not funny, sure there were better pure Keepers than him and there were better batsmen who also kept wicket than him, but none were good enough to be picked for either role by itself.
Greatest Keeper-batsman of all time by far.
He's only average as a keeper there's better WK than him.
I miss the legends of cricket, amazing era that will never be repeated. The classic and unforgettable commentary team that will never be replicated that help made cricket a sporting era to remember. Super stuff that…marvellous effort all-round.
