    As a circus artist who does aerials (silks, straps and rope) this was both really funny and painful to watch hahaha. I wanted to run to you to lend you my circus rope because yours looks so slippery and way too thick! Also if you ever read this, to catch the rope when you do a vrille (when you let go and twist), be careful of the way your hands catch it. It seemed like sometimes you tried to catch it with both of your hands on the same side of the rope. To avoid that, catch it first with the hand that's on the correct side of the rope. So for example, in the video you twist to your left, so catch your right hand first. Don't give up!

    This is so cool watching you guys try to figure out this trick. My friend Russ Stark did that stunt in Chronicles of Riddick. His background is in gymnastics and he performed with Quidam on Spanish Web. He did do the entire stunt in one take. He had nothing to do with changing camera angles which make it look like multiple takes. He also did it with the manacles on his wrists. The only part (obviously) that he didn't do was snapping the "handcuffs". The young man doing the one arm back flag roll-up in the blue costume is named Vadim. I believe he was the only one in the world doing that trick at the time. It always makes me cringe watching him hit the bottom of that roll down. Thanks for the fun content.

    I think for the muscle up in the movie, the fact that the handuffs are metal (maybe with a rigid rod in the middle as well) really helps the guy push himself at some point (so it's probably harder/impossible with loose handcuffs like you had). I think even the way you tried in the video, without the muscle up, it might be easier with some sort of rigid handcuffs so you don't put as much pressure on the skin of your wrists and so you have more wriggle room

Idk, it's harder to describe vs show but Riddick's arms are in his "power zone" right in front of his body, yours are too far extended. If that makes sense.

    I think closest you can get to escaping this kind of trap is getting upside down, grabbing the rope with legs to loosen the weight on knots and try to untie them with your hands.. No way of snapping the rope with your weight only, it's way too durable for that, not to mention the damage done to hands and muscles if you'd try that. Maybe get the rope on something with sharper angle and grind it till it snaps. Maybe simply climb to wherever the rope is anchored and try something there, though I'm sure it's not easy to think in creative ways when you're hanging upside down lol

  • @Muck006
    @Muck006 3 роки тому +3

    For the first part you should train the "pull yourself up with only the feet" move WITHOUT BOUND HANDS. There is a foot-lock technique for "right-side up" and you need to figure out how it works upside down. So start from a "lying down position" and grab the rope with your legs.
    The WIDE BOYZ (crack climbers) had a "learn crack climbing" video IIRC where they did that with Magnus ...

    One of the reasons you had problems is because you didn't set up like Riddick in the movie. If you look at the 1:28 mark in your vid, you can clearly see that Riddick's hands are NOT tied together. Rather, they are bound with about a foot of separation between them. The "chain" between his hands passes through an eye in the end of the rope that he's dangling from. More importantly, this separation allowed him to rotate his joints and use the "chain" like a bar for leverage.
    Freeze the frame again at the 5:39 mark and you can clearly see that his hands are oriented with his thumbs towards each other and the thick "chain" gripped in both fists. I'd even go so far as to say that they did use a stiff bar for that particular scene.
    This is what allows him to muscle up in that handstand. None of that would be possible if his hands were bound together because he'd be getting all locked up in the joints.
    You're absolutely right about breaking the move down into its constituent parts and practicing those to build up the muscle memory. Used to have to do that in firearms training, and never would have believed how important a step it is. The big problem was that you started on the wrong foot, so to speak, by not binding your hands like was shown in the film. I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that Riddick's hands might have looked tied together, but they were really just run through some eye splices and left him plenty of freedom to move and rotate without shredding his skin or causing a lockup.

    As Tyson said. I think there might be a perk to actual cuffs with a little distance in-between your hands that may help you with this.

    Там еще в какой-то части был момент, когда Ридик держась одной рукой за веревку, прыгает со скалы, как на тарзанке, летит , потом свободной рукой хватает девушку и вместе с ней уже летит. Это наверное вообще не реально.

    the cuffs on riddick had a space between the cuffs about two hands worth between each cuff. When he flips over he grabs the spacer inbetween

    I wonder if you can do a version of a J-hook or S-hook whilst upside down. I don't have a rope to try it. Another neat video though!

      They should have started on the ground first while practicing this. It isnt going to be easy though and "rope twisted around the leg" seems like the only version that might work.

    I would imagine if your life was actually in danger, you might be able to pull it off. I also wonder if training for this exact set of moves, it would become possible.

    I think it would have been easier on the grip up the rope if you actually had the length as Riddick had between his hands there was about a foot length between the cuffs that did not change as he pulled on it. I'm impressed with the work you guys put in to it so far. It's amazing how much you managed though. I just wonder though even though you might actually gain the ability to do the whole stunt would it actually manage to break the wrist wraps be it any material?

    Блин, Антоха, нужно распределить нагрузку по максимально возможной площади тела. В данном случае - ноги. Т.е. веревка должна быть как удав на ноге. Подтянувшись на вытянутых руках, как на кольцах - оберни канат вокруг ноги, далее, весь вес тела останется на ноге, а руки можно будет развязывать.

      If you go through the videos of Magnus Midtbo you will come across some videos with the WIDE BOYZ - he has a playlist - and in one of them they have created a new climbing route with cracks in Magnus' gym. Pete Whittaker's friend Mari is also there and she is hanging upside down out of a crack just locked in there with just her feet "for a brief rest period" ... but then falls after trying to get the hands in again. It is an application in sports ... but "the other way round", starting upside down.

    Maybe tie up a human-sized crash dummy to it, wind it upwards, like off the movie, then let it drop to observe the results.

  • @solfeinberg437
    @solfeinberg437 3 роки тому

    Not that I could or could ever do that, but I'm thinking and a review of the video shows that he has let go and is twisting around while he is still going up, so that by the time he catches he's just started falling. This whole thing also shows how friggin fast gravity is and why it's virtually impossible to recatch yourself after you've fallen for any amount of time (if you didn't have an upward component to your velocity to start.
