- District 13: Ultimatum is a 2009 French action thriller film and a sequel to the 2004 film District 13. Directed by Patrick Alessandrin and written and produced by Luc Besson.
In this video we are going to try one of the escape stunts in real life.
Let's find out if its a real skill or movie magic! 😎

I'm guessing the movie version had grooves in the bar to keep it from rotating and the cables were probably lubricated to keep the friction down too. It's also pretty clear that the movie cables were under a lot more tension than the saggy ropes used in the gym.
Yep they certainly didn't have them attached by bungee cords.
My guess is they weren't normal cable either, like strengthened or something.. What it kind of looked like to me was that the bar was attached to the cables that were actually on a pulley system so the team could control speed. It's just such a smooth motion idk what else it would be.
@@juancena1259Little wheels inside the bar?
"Saggy ropes"
I am sure that if anyone can master this in the future, it is you! Thank you for making these videos Anton. IT is my favorite series you have where you do Movie Stunts in real life :-)
I think that this stunt is impossible unless the two wires are calibrated to have identical tension. In the video, the bar always turns to the same direction because of this unevenness; specifically it always turns right because the wire on the right is a bit more slack.
it turns right because the carpet foam touches the right wire and not the left wire making the right side get slower and then turn the rod
I think all the attempters are right-handed which automatically creates an unbalance. I bet a left-hander would twist the opposite direction.
EVen if you make the wires to have identical tension, you still need a perfect balance on both sides of the bar. Because once you move even a slightly out of balance, the friction changes, one side of the bar slows down, you attempt to correct, but you won't correct it perfectly and it is pretty much a downward spiral from there.
TLDR: Even with perfectly calibrated wires, it is still technical as fuck.
@@JosuaKrause The reason the right carpet foam touches first is because the unevenness in tension makes the bar tilt right
@@tomasstana5423 Yea but if the skill is techy as fuck, it's still theoretically doable. If the wires aren't calibrated however, it's logistically impossible.
Lube, handcuffs... this is going to be something magic... :D
District 13 and Yamakasi were legendary parkour movies.
Tension in wires is freaking dangerous! Seeing the way the bar would spring away from you in the beginning was making my stomach turn!
Also, Luc Besson wrote and directed the film The Fifth Element in 1997, one of my favourites. I had no idea he did District 13. Thanks Anton!
You make these physical challenges look so easy its krazy to watch. Love your content. Im 6'7, 280lb & just not built for that "Ninja" lifestyle. So its fascinating to watch someone so adept with there body as you, and your friends are.
Prediction: Depends on the steepness. Similar stuff has been done in Ninja Warrior, but it looks too steep and long.
Thoughts after watching: Also depends a lot on the cable tension
"And Handcuffs...you promised me handcuffs" Only fans spin off in the works lol
Make that donations to survive in California!💪😂
“A little bit of lube never hurt right?”
Bicep MacCoy is cool as always. Love the vid!
Wowowow this is nerve wracking!
That was a great ending... the random dude falling from the sky. You can't make this stuff up!
I was there and it still surprised me when watching this 😂
Predicting result - well I’m assuming you’re still alive if it’s uploaded so yes. If not, hi Sean thanks for uploading 🙏
Ah damn I was wrong. RIP Anton
Good stuff as usual, Anton. Great video ❤
Thank you!
I could have told them from personal experience that the bar sliding over and rubbing your hand against the wire is the first way this will fail in RL, and sure enough...
To be honest, it seems much more possible to hit the bar against something, so that it has a dent and maybe even al slight V shape... and then just try it on a single cable...
great video as usual though!!
Yep! That’s was a first thought!💪
I want to see Carter in more videos! Also, great video Anton!
4:02 Lmao
FYI, he had notches or dents on the bar he used it the movie and it was greased..... Also a belt doesn't work at all, you'd need a chain to be able to slide down a cable. In my experience, it's the only thing that locks on and slides fast.... Good Luck if you try w/ the modified bar and greased cables that are properly tensioned. 😁👍
I know it's a 9 month old video at this point but I think part of the friction problem was the wires hitting the pads causing the spin. I scrolled through the comments for a bit and didn't see anyone mentioning this, even though it's one of the first things you mentioned in the vid. If you moved the pads in farther it would give you less hand space. Which means less control but would give you more bar to slide on without hitting those. Plus as others said, there needs to be way more tension on those wires for this to work.
one of the only channels which make me go "so close so close so close you can definitely do it you can do it" at the edge of my seat
💪☺️
You got me with the music! You tricked me 😂 good job! and great video, as always:)
I did! 💪😅
Epic stuff!!🔥🔥
the carpet bonded foam was doing a good job of protecting your hands but it was causing way too much friction on the cables. If you had used a metal guard of some kind I think it would've worked for sure.
Thanks for the sick content! Your channel is criminally underrated!
I appreciate that!💪🔥
The way Anton yeeted the bar everytime he fell cracked me up lol
To be fair, that's better than having it land on top of him.
@@beesi4932 oh for sure, I'm not criticizing it, it just looked funny
@@JonathanHolt1988 True enough. I wouldn't want to be standing on that trajectory.🤣
In this case, I don't think you can just say, "movie stunt." Because it is David Belle doing it. The movie was primarily made to showcase Parkour.
I seriously doubt he would opt to do a stunt that was fake, over trying to show what you can do with parkour.
In fact that stunt which they now sometimes do on Ninja warrior, most likely came from that movie. David Belle did like two movies doing Parkour stunts, and that is it. Years ago. It is like if Magnus Midtboi was in a movie that had climbing, and doing a test to see if what he did was possible.
There appear to be some tricks in the movie. first - looks like cables are bigger diameter, smooth and much higher tension. all of which gives stability and consistency of movement. Angle relative to ground also looks steeper in movie, but that does not play a big role. second - it looks like the bar is not a regular straight pipe. looks like there are very slight bends and small variation in diameter, that is enough to keep the bar centered on cables. With these improvements You should be able to do it. The bar should be able to slide down on its own this a small weigt strapped to it (guessing something like 10 to 20 lb).
I rarely comment, but your content is great man, really interesting and entertaining!
Thank You 💪🔥
Thank you for the entertaining videos. Keep it up! Greetings from Norway.
Thank you for your support! Appreciate it 💪🔥
love all you videos!!!
🔥💪
Love these
Just get David Belle to come show you how he did it!
jk, but great video Anton
Would be cool!
I'm straight, but Anton is so cute !!! :)
I just rewatched this. Favourite french movie! Check out the rehash looking movie called brick house. Paul Walker jumps in with David Belle.
Anton is not looking and what got moat views and doing that style/ type of video. Respect to anton!
The music in D13 is fucking amazing too.
*BWEEP BWEEP BEEP*
Man I wish I had a place like this around where I live. I might actually still be in shape if I could do exercise that was fun instead of miserable.
Loved this one!
Thanks a lot 💪🔥
Pretty epic!
I think it's pretty clear that you would've nailed this stunt pretty easily if the wires were tensed up like in the movie..In the movie they seem solid, no bending.
when the bar turns right, the right side is moving slower than left. My guess is that our instinct is to pull the right side forward but that makes you pull it down and increase the friction even more.
Also, did anyone notice that almost everytime there was a twisting fall(5:47), the bar turned to the right
Ya, it may just be that the right cable was slightly more taut, so the friction ramped up on that side more quickly.
@@Psyco913 must be that
Really cool. Thankyou.
How much of a difference would it make if the wires were more taught? There is so much flex with this version.
Anton I believe if you lube up the cable and the metal bar you would have much better control because of less friction and more predictable remaining friction. Of course the angle had to be adjusted then so you don’t go from 1mph to 100mph in 1 second
Yay!
More (even) tension on the cables might help.
love the vids
Friday is Anton upload day woohoo!
Could it be that the bar was welded to the cables and then the cables were being moved with a winch in the movie clip? Either that or grooving the bar to keep it even, along with a lot of tension in the wire ropes.
Loved District 13, maybe different cable with more tension so less sag might help reduce friction.
For once Anton can't do a stunt and he still looks epic just trying it 🤣.
💪😂
this was a great attempt, I think in a real life escape I would at least give it an attempt but someone would need to be shooting at me and then it might be easy target down the wire
love you anton
Hey Anton, it's me who comments everytime about how you're my fav UA-camr 😂, i guess maybe someday you'll remember my name. I once commented that i your physique is my dream physique. I have finally mastered the 20 sec straight handstand after nearly 10000 fails. I have one request, is it possible for you please please please upload a tutorial on how to backflip (without any gym or trampoline) with just some mattresses. Where i live there are no gyms. Comment is getting longer which means maybe you won't read it but still..worth a try. 🙌🏻 I'll always support you anyway 😊
Hey! Congrats! Practice makes improvements!
Not sure about backflip video tho. There are so many good ones already exist! But safety approach would be nice to have!💪🔥
I havent tried ofcourse, but I believe, you could try to do like "0:36" type of arm pushing movement to control bar to go equal both sides. :)
Nice videos mate..
Tiger Toni 💪🏻
with more tension and a harder bar ,from the video looks like aluminium or a soft stainless, i think that the friction will decrease and it will catch less on the sides allowing you to control better the spining , also maybe some lubricant but this can make the fall to fast
i hope you keep trying it because i think is possible
I think this stunt might be possible if you're willing to change your technique but it would also not be movie accurate. Instead of sliding from a stand still you start it with some speed. This way you would be falling fast enough to over come the friction and hopefully that's fast enough for the bar to not catch. Or launch yourself from the wire so you're not sliding but skipping on the wires.
If one side catches, pull down on the other side to slow it down. Also the low angle makes the catching worse, so tighter wire, more angle is easier (to minimize the angle getting too low locally, which it tends to do far from supports)
@@deltalima6703 I just wanted to address it from a technique stand point. I strongly believe with a perfect set up this would be very possible. I bet 2 pulleys would trivialize this stunt.
You should try the move from the last episode of moon knight, he runs up a car throws some knives then does a spin going down the car, super cool stuff!!!
At 7:16 the foam on the right caught the wire and the friction slow your right side down so the torque difference thrown you off.
They drilled holes in the bar and the cables went through
That looked tough. Tighter wires, as low friction as possible between the bar and wire and more bad ass ninjas seeing you fail will make it work 😉
This is a tricky one... If the cables don't have enough tension you'll slow down causing problems, if the cables don't have the exact same tension, one cable will slow you down causing the shifting/turning you were dealing with, and if everything is tight and perfect, you'll probably die, or at least cut off a finger or 2.. Soooo, maybe just a back flip? haha
Bad-ass!
How about putting a sleeve over the bar and some bearings between the sleeve and the bar? Then the bar across the wires is an axle and the sleeve rotates on the axle, thus differences in friction between the left side wire and the right side wire will be less important. This approach would also be more effective in reducing friction than putting some grease on the bar.
"Nervous?"
"No, not really. There's nobody with a gun chasing me."
Is Anton talking about the movie or his past?
💪😅🤫
To get a more stable slide, you would have to have much more momentum.. Basically either run to the bar, and slide.. But you would have to jump to it perfectly straight.
The guy in the District 13 movie is David Belle, one of the founders of parkour, he usually does his own stunts so it might be real but idk duh
This stunt was from district 13 ultimatum. The police chase. Definitely some movie magic happening for one or 2 stunts.
If the foam guards where lime green they wouldn't even be there
😂
I'm not a professional by any standards. But it looks to be like your cables should be tightened more to take the slack out as much as possible.
You should try the - jump and throw belt over the cable simultaneously catching the other end of the belt - stunt from mission impossible rogue nation!
This video already uploaded. Will be “on” next Friday 💪🔥
thank you for sacrificing your body in the name of science and entertainment
You are welcome 😏
the reason there is so much friction between the bar and the lines, is because they're made of the same metals. might slide better with a different bar
Lovely
I'll be worried about scraping my hands with the cable
Would it be easier if you just used one rope down the middle of the pipe and holding on to the sides?
Right off the bat, before watching the video, it seems like it would be hard to keep the bar on the cables. If the bar twists, or slides left or right, or the cables spread, you fall. It seems like you could put your hands on the outside if the cables to keep them trapped, but then I hope you don't mind losing all of your arm skin.
Красавчик Тоха
Спасибо’💪
Neat
depends a lot on the cable tension and I think that's the only reason why spinning around
Yeh✨
Is that bar aluminium? Steel and aluminium don't like to slide over each other and it looks like the bard is sticking on the steel cables. I had a slide for guitar made from aluminium and it bound on the strings and was unusable but a shiny steel one worked like a charm.
Maybe possible with a bit of chain?
Даже удивительно, что только 9 попыток, обычно ты раньше 1000 не останавливаешься)))
Не разрешили больше. Испугались, что Я покалечусь. 🙁
I really didn't like Anton trying this one. After seeing those uncontrolled falls, going to the top height really worried me
Perhaps the cables are too slack and need more tension to be tighter? You might need heavier gauge lines and a ratchet/winch (rather than just ratchet straps at the end)?
please more movie tests
It's real in the movie. Maybe with a lot of safety options off screen, but the dude definetely did the move.
IMO
i think the bar in the film had holes drilled in which the wires passed through,
Is the angle which in a movie is higher up and the tension of the cable
👌
Am I the only one who thought it looked very possible and actually quite easy and was surprised by how difficult i actually is IRL? 😂
I was thinking it will be more possible. 😐
Was this an Aluminium bar? It looked like it "bit" way to much to be from pure steel. Even if it was just zink coated that's pretty bad for the friction thingy I suppose.
probably impossible, or at least heavily luck reliant. a slight imbalance would lead to you rotating and falling to your death and i don't see any way to counter act that
Before watching I will guess that it's possible.
I feel like having more tension on the cables (so they're less bouncy) would probably make it easier? What do you think?
Probably. But more tension wasn’t possible with the set up.
💪🤸💪
Its possible just not probable
You do know who David Belle is? Because it seemed like none of you there did. He is one of the main founders of Parkour. he isn't a Hollywood actor.
They know antons mentioned in previous vids he was a fan as a kid. But ultimatum definitely had some movie magic for a couple of the stunts.
