    This isn't just chicken noodle soup, it's a warm hug in a bowl. Perfect for chilly days, or when you just need a little extra comfort. Watch how to make the easiest, most flavorful soup that will have your whole family asking for seconds (or thirds!).
    Recipe:
    2 chicken breasts or thighs (boiled or rotisserie will give you better texture, but you can cube and cook straight into soup if in a hurry)
    1 onion diced small
    1 carrot diced very small
    1 stick celery diced small
    2 cloves garlic minced
    8 cups chicken broth or stock
    6-8 oz egg noodles
    1 Tbsp fresh thyme leaves
    2 Tbsp olive oil
    Salt
    Fresh cracked black pepper
    parsley for garnish
    *optional 2 cups chicken bone broth
    *optional 1/2 tsp red pepper
    Prepare vegetables and chicken (be sure chicken cooks to 165F internal)
    Bring dutch oven to medium heat and add olive oil.
    Add carrots, celery, and onion and cook until onion translucent.
    Add garlic and cook for another 60 seconds or until aromatic.
    (If chicken is uncooked add now, and mix with ingredients for around 1 min, if already cooked add after broth.)
    Add broth, deglaze and bring to boil, reduce immediately to simmer.
    Add thyme ( and chicken if precooked)
    Add salt, pepper, and red pepper to taste.
    Let simmer on low for at least 20 minutes.
    Enjoy!

      I've never heard of adding squeezed lemon juice to homemade chicken noodle soup and I'm66 yrs old. What does it do for the soup if you don't mind me asking?

    • @Thebateskitchen
      @Thebateskitchen  4 дні тому

      It adds a bit of acidity and brightens the flavor a bit! You’re not really looking to give it a lemon flavor, just to enhance and brighten the flavors in the soup! I just squeeze a Tbsp or 2 from 1/2 of lemon!

    Hope the kids get better soon. I know they appreciate your soup and all of the other loving things you're doing to care for them. I'm a celery lover. I'll eat it plain, with peanut butter, with cheese, etc. As I've gotten older, I've found that the meat is my least favorite part of soups, stew, and even pot pies. I guess I'd be making vegetable noodle chicken soup, lol. As always, appreciate spending time with you in the kitchen. Thank you!

    Hello and greetings from NYC. We always add a small piece of parmigiana cheese rind and a splash of either ketchup or tomato paste ( about a teaspoon) to the broth for extra flavor to our chicken soup.

    Pretty close to the way I make mine. I agree, go ahead and saute those carrots and onions for a few and get those flavors around your pan. Homemade soups can be so quick and easy. Haven’t bought any canned soup in over a decade because they’re all pretty easy to make and so much better when you do it yourself. I love to put a lid on whatever soup I make and set it on top of our wood stove to simmer all day. Great recipe Zach!

      I kind of collect knives a little bit! I most commonly use a shun Fuji chefs knife, a miyabi santoku and my benchmade custom station knife. They do hold their edge well. The benchmade comes with lifetime sharpening if you send it off, but I don’t sharpen any of them frequently. I use a honing rod to keep them sharp but only sharpen them once a month or every several months.

      @ Thank you so much for your personal reply. Zach, that is so kind of you. I never expected that. You and Whitney and your family and the entire Bates family are such a blessing.
      Our dear 41-year-old daughter,Rachel, went to be with the Lord almost 5 weeks ago. I still can’t believe it. One of the only things besides reading the Bible and praying and listening to Christian music… that brings my heart Comfort is watching all of the Bates family UA-cam channels and the Duggers as well. I always loved both of your shows and wish they were both still on TV. But so thankful for You Tube. And now you can show us how to cook which is such a blessing. You make it look so easy … you’re so good at bringing it down to a level that someone could at least try to make something delicious.. Blessings to you and your family, to the Bate sisters, boutique, and to your real estate business as well! 🙏✝️

      I enjoy connecting with each of you that take the time to reach out as much as I can. I’m so sorry to hear of your loss, I can’t think of anything that would compare with that pain. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.

    Yum! It is similar to how I make my chicken noodle soup. I use chicken legs that I have roasted and a packet of chicken noodle soup too. Do you have Maggi brand seasoning sauce in the States? It is smilar to soy sauce but tastes better. I also put some of that in my soup. I agree with the pepper in the soup, but buttered french stick bread cut into slices with butter is the best to have with soup!

      That’s so crazy! I actually had some French bread in a Wildgrain box with slow churned butter that we ate with it 😂 I should have gotten a picture of that as well!

    This morning I took some chicken breasts out of the freezer for tomorrow. Now I know what I am going to make. I DO HAVE A QUESTION: How do you keep the scum from forming on the top when you cook with raw chicken? You lifted the lid to add the noodles, and there wasn't one bit of scum on top. I always have scum on the top that is hard to get it all. Thanks for another great recipe and the idea for dinner tomorrow.

    • @Thebateskitchen
      @Thebateskitchen  6 днів тому +1

      Rinse your chicken and cut the fat off! Also cook at a simmer rather than a rolling boil to help reduce it. If you still get enough that it looks unsightly you can skim it off!

    When making a big pot of soup for more than one meal, only add noodles to what you are using right away. Store the rest in the fridge or freezer without noodles and cook more as needed.

    You'll always get more flavor out of roasted chicken. I prefer white meat only so I buy bone-in, skin-on chicken breasts and roast them in the oven and then spread them. Second best is shredding a rotisserie chicken.

    • @Thebateskitchen
      @Thebateskitchen  7 днів тому

      Absolutely agree, there is more flavor in roasted chicken! I prefer the white meat only as well, but don’t mind mixing it up a bit with soup.

    Dumb question: What kind/brand are your cutting boards? With the raw chicken on there, do you wash with just hot water and Dawn or what?

    • @Thebateskitchen
      @Thebateskitchen  7 днів тому +1

      I generally use an alcohol spray for my cutting boards, but even though I probably shouldn’t, I will wash them quickly with hot water and dawn soap after chicken and dry them immediately.

    It's great as is, but add some milk or heavy cream for creamy chicken noodle soup.
