I love listening to someone who isn't a fan of the franchise ranking the movies, it's refreshing. You should do this for the Hunger Games movies, especially with the new one on the way.

I think the beauty of lists like these and being on UA-cam is that I can completely disagree with Cody and still have a tremendous amount of respect for him and his opinions.

I think the difference between Cody and a lot of other movie reviewers is that Cody doesn’t believe his opinions are the absolute gospel.

I am a Chamber Of Secrets guy. I like the "murder" mystery plot. It was the first film I saw in the Harry Potter series and I've always liked it since. I liked Tom Riddle and his actor. It was nice seeing a young Voldemort and Radcliffe really 100% comes into his own as Harry in that movie. I like Aragog and the Basilisk and the way Ron and Harry discover how the basilisk moved through Hogwarts.
And it introduces Dobby... enough said.

Goblet of fire was my favorite too. Seemed like a good balace of tone and feel of first 2 films and the darkness of the later films with a lot of fun fantasy and yet serious dark events in it.

I guess the reason the Malfoy's were not put in Azkaban is because Draco's mom saved Harry and lied to Voldemort about him being dead.

I really need to watch these movies again as an adult, lol. I loved the books and basically judged the movies on how book-accurate they were the first time i watched them. Chamber of Secrets was my fav. I’d like to give em a fair shake as independent works.

1. Prisoner of Azkaban (most well made, love Lupin)- A
2. Chamber of Secrets (executed better than the first, super accurate to book)- A
3. Sorcerer's Stone (the OG, super charming)- A
4. Deathly Hallows Part 2 (great and exciting finale, but with some major flaws that hold it back)- A-
5. Deathly Hallows Part 1 (love the character moments, and I love "on the run" movies)- A-
6. Goblet of Fire (Not very accurate, cuts out stuff that shouldn't have been cut out)- B-
7. Half Blood Prince (it cut out the wrong stuff, focused too much on cringey romance)- B-
8. Order of the Phoenix (last 30 minutes are amazing, but first 90 minutes are a drag for me and super inaccurate)- B-
9. Fantastic Beasts (Fun at times, but doesn't quite fit well with the beasts and the Grindelwald stuff)- C+
10. Secrets of Dumbledore (WTH?? It's just a Dumbledore vs Grindelwald movie now. Nothing made sense)- F
11. Crimes of Grindelwald (Just... just awful. Depp sucks as Grindelwald, nothing makes sense, why is Newt here?)- F

I’ve been asking for this vid from you for the longest time now. The Harry Potter films are dear to my heart and I’m really interested of seeing what Cody, a casual Harry Potter watcher that usually have the exact taste in movies as me, have to say on them
Literally just started watching Harry Potter…. I’m just about to start deathly hallows, I’m really surprised. I absolutely love it, like you I’m not a big fantasy guy never liked lords of the rings or anything else really in that genre but Man I love these! Respect your opinion all the same

Cool to see that I’m not the only one who likes Goblet the best! The last third of the movie with Voldemort’s resurrection is the most dramatic, dark, intense scene in the whole franchise.

Yeah, I doubt it was an exact match, especially if you say it happened once before. The chances of that are slim.

Cody, a few things just FYI that may be of interest to you:
1) You are not on an island with thinking Harry and Hermione should have been together. J.K. Rowling actually admitted she later regretted not putting them together.
2) It is revealed in the Half Blood Prince book that Voldemort actually jinxed the Defense Against the Dark Arts teaching position after he had applied for it and was denied it by Dumbledore who knew of his sinister nature before he became prominently known as Voldemort. Half Blood Prince really skipped out on a ton about Voldemort's past.
3) Dolores Umbridge is worse in the book, too. I have no idea why Order of the Phoenix omitted this deal, as it seems pretty important, but Umbridge is the one who actually sent the dementors to attack Harry at the beginning of the film, not Voldemort.
4) Great list, man! Goblet of Fire is my favorite film, too. I just don't get the hate.
Goblet of Fire was my favorite of the books but what made the movie fall short for me was how much time was spent on the prom. Substantially more than what the book does.
The Sorcerer's Stone is my favorite by a long shot

So glad you finally were able to see all the original Harry Potter films! I’ve been a huge fan of the books & films since I was 9. Almost all of these original films are amazing which is unbelievable how 8 films didn’t seem to go downhill at all. Thanks for the review!
I love that you mentioned the PS1 game that went with the first movie. That and the Chamber of Secrets game were both very fun and I rarely hear people talk about them. So that was very appreciated.

Lupin was a good DODA teacher but in the books it’s pointed out that the position of DODA had been cursed since Dumbledor refused the position to Voldernort
If anyone loves these movies and hasn’t read the books, maybe because that is daunting for you then I’d suggest starting a free trail on audible and you can get the first book in there for free (or any of the books) if you have Amazon prime you can get an extra book for free too, Stephen fry is a great narrator for them

Note: While Order of Pheonix is my least favorite book because it goes on forever it's one of my favorite movies and vice versa for Half Blood Prince.

Broooooooo as soon as your 3rd and 2nd spot came up I got happy because goblet of fire has been my favorite since I first saw it in the theater. Everyone always tells me it's so dark and that's why they don't like it but that's where these movies turned for me especially as a horror fan. Just an amazing film.
Harry Potter is a very consistent series imo. No really bad films.
The Yates films might be more consistent, but I prefer the Columbus atmosphere in the earlier movies.

15:25 I used to like time travel stories until I realised that half the time writers use it to avoid permanent changes and consequences in their stories.
GOF is also my no.1, it’s got an epic, adventure feel and has the most intrigue imo as you wonder how Harry is gonna survive each task. Fully agree on COS being redundant too and POA to a degree. GOF is really when things gets serious (and i’ve still not even seen HBP or DH).
I got into the films without ever reading the books, and I think GOF ranks high for that audience. Book fans probably rank it lower for not including certain scenes from the book they wanted to see.

I actually think GoF is genuinely really hilarious as well. The scenes where Harry and Ron are trying to get a date are some of my favourite scenes in any Harry Potter film, they are so funny, as well as Ron putting on his dress robes. It has such a perfect balance in tone.

I would argue Pirates 2 and 3 turned the two part finale upside down. It feels like A LOT happened in the second movie, and the third was just three hours of milking the ending. Their perilous quest to get Jack back is over in the first 30 minutes, two hours of NOTHING go by, then a big action set piece at the end, after we'd long stopped caring.
1. Goblit of fire: I agree with you Cody 100% I don’t get the hate. I actually thought the final battle between Harry and Voldemort was better in this film than in deathly hallows part 2.
2. Prisoner of Azkaban: this is where I feel Harry finally starts stepping up and really training, learning new skills to prepare for evil. I love the time travel, the horror aspect, lupin was by far the best of the dark arts teachers, the whole story with Sirius black was great. I watch this and the 4th film the most by far.
3. Half blood prince: I have never understood why people kinda put this one towards the bottom. I love the entire mystery side of the story with this book he finds, the prequel side of it with telling how Tom riddle became Voldemort, dark ending where out of all the movies this really felt like the only one where the bad guy wins.
4. Deathly hallows part 2: great action all the way through, I like the snape reveal, the epic conclusion, my only problems with this film was I felt Draco’s redemption was kinda hinted at the past 2 movies and this film didn’t really bother to see him switch sides also I felt the final confrontation was a little bit rushed like he just zaps him and he fades away? That’s it? Like I felt they should have had Harry unlock this true power inside of himself, maybe use the cloak, the stone, and elder wand to become this all power wizard and wipe the floor with Voldemort at the end. Last thing I hated the entire Harry with Jenny and ron with hermione relationship. Felt like in part 6 they just added that in out of nowhere and there’s no buildup to this film.
5. Chamber of secrets: I like the entire mystery of not knowing who’s letting the beast out or who opened the chamber, loved the reveal of Voldemort, the final fight with the sword was awesome, only thing I hated was the rehash elements and I felt this movie added comedy into place that I just didn’t care for in a more serious movie.
6. Sorcerers stone: great origins story and family movie, I just feel now it hasn’t aged as well for me as an adult because it’s too kid friendly with not enough darker more serious elements.
7. Order of the Phoenix: like Cody said I like the entire element with him being a leader and training the students to fight, I like the ending battle with all the death eaters, dumbledore vs Voldemort was awesome, the dark aspect of Harry having this evil inside of him but having said that I have never understood why everyone is so heads over heels about this movie. I never liked the entire middle part of this movie with umbridge taking over, the council not believing Harry That Voldemort is back, I also hated the fact that they kinda make Harry look weak and not putting up a fight against Voldemort before dumbledore gets there. He puts up a fight in 4 then in 5 he just knocks the wand out of his hands like he’s nothing. I also hated when Voldemort goes inside Harry and he tells dumbledore “you lost old man.” Lol 😂 it’s so ridiculous over the top I can’t help but laugh.
8. Deathly hallows part 1: this one just feels like a setup and has way too much talking. Every time I watch it I’m like get to the point. There’s still some great action, there’s still some great story ideas like the deathly hallows story itself is a great add in for the movie but the entire middle part with them arguing got on my nerves.
9. Where to find them: this is a good movie I just think it’s too much of a kids movie and it don’t hold a candle to the Harry Potter movies before it.
10. Secrets of dumbledore: now I do like the action in this one, the final battle, the characters themselves, but I just felt the entire story is rushed and has too many details not explored that I would have liked explored. The entire blood pack with dumbledore and Grindelwald being gay I felt was ridiculous to add in to this franchise because it was never mentioned in any of the previous movies at all.
11. Crimes of grindelwald: it was ok, rushed storyline but Johnny depp I feel kinda saved it with his performance but this is the only one I’ve watched once and haven’t revisited it.
Am I the only one who's thinking ( instead of all those fantastic beast movies )they should really explore the four founders of the school.
I really think the fact that Slivering was even allowed to be involved in the whole thing with his evil ideas and opportunities and the explanation behind that would be more interesting and maybe an explanation why 90% of the teachers are pro Gryffindor and dislike slivering which begs the Question why even have a Slivering house...isnt it strange how wizards who want to be evil are drawn to and end up in slivering.

The Deathly Hallows Part 2 gave me chills so many times. I have to put it at #1. It’s interesting to see your point of view having not read the rest of the books. For example, many fans love the Goblet of Fire book but absolutely hate the movie. Also, the relationship between Ginny and Harry is infinitely better in the books than the movies; the movies are so fucking awkward. One exception to the books being better is The Order of the Phoenix, basically because of the ministry battle and Sirius Black’s attitude. In the end, we worship the source material so any differences piss us off lol
The thing is Ron and Ginny got shafted as far as characterization goes with Hermione getting boosted . Ron had a lot of book only moments and lines that showcase how smart he is and Ginny was really witty and snarky .

Great reviews. A few weeks ago I mentioned to a group of people that Goblet of Fire was one of my favorites and they literally laughed at me, saying it was one of the worst movies of the series. I was baffled, and unaware it had this reputation in the HP community but I couldn't disagree more. The Triwizard tournament is where it's at.
Yeah gof is one of my favorite films in the series. Some fans are just mad that it isn’t like the book.
I think that’s why readers dislike the film so much. I completely agree, the Triwizard tournament is fucking dope, and the book makes it sooo much more epic. Every contest is longer and each contestant gets way more characterization. You know Fleur and Viktor just as well as you know every other Harry Potter side character by book end. For that young adult crowd who enjoy that type of competition content the book is an AWESOME read.
But I definitely don’t hate the movie. I just would’ve sat through a 3.5 hour film of that epicness and knowing what’s missing is just a little sad.
@@austincaucci there's a lot of Cheap humour in the movie which turns me off. Very over the top portrayal of Hermione and Dumbledore is another negative.

For my money, The Goblet of Fire is the best book, and a lot of why I and others rank the movie lower is that they did not execute certain elements of the plot super-well. In the moviemakers' defense, the books were getting notably longer by Pt. 4, so tough cuts were going to have to be made, but still.

As a kid the sorcerer's stone was my favorite Harry Potter movie, the PS1 game of sorcerer's stone as a adult I can compare that game to superman 64
I really appreciate GOF being on the top of your list cause for me being a die hard fan of Harry Potter this ones always been close to being my favorite one I also felt that this one was the most different one of the series

I never read the book, but i have an issue with goblet of fire... Namely, Why was the goblet in the maze needed to teleport harry to the graveyard, as the entire year, a deatheater was in the school acting like he was mad eye.. He could curse any other object to get harry to the graveyard. Just because of this thing, its not my favorite. Unless i missed something important?
and I also agree with you about the malfoys, when I saw Malfoy happy with his family I was like yeah f*** that guy
