The third act of Two Towers contains what is easily the greatest battle sequence of any epic fantasy or sci-fi blockbuster. It's not just exciting; it gets my blood pumping like nothing else. And the visuals are beautiful to look at. I even love the buildup to it, with the king musing glumly on his people's prospects as we see shots of elderly men and little boys being suited up and armed for battle. It really raises the tension by emphasizing the desperation of this kingdom, and once the fight is joined, great expectations are more than fulfilled.
Off topic, I’ve been a subscriber of yours since 2018, always wondering why you’re numbers were low given the fact that you put out excellent content and exceptional reviews. Now you’re close to 90K subscribers and I’m damn proud for your success. 100K is within reach and may you have much more success for the future, keep kicking ass 🤘🏾
The Lord of the Rings has always been special to me. Some of my favorite theater experiences came from the Lord of the Rings. The extended cuts just elevate them for me. They are special to me. I wish my dad had been alive to finish the trilogy out with me. Star Wars is awesome :) Harry Potter is fun enough. The Hobbit should have been one long movie instead of a trilogy, but I still enjoy them for the most part. I prefer the books of Narnia over the films, but the first Narnia film I saw with a big church group and that was fun. I respect your takes on these Cody since you’re not a fan of fantasy. Glad you dived in for a bit :) Great video. Here’s my ranking. 1. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) 2. Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) 3. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) 4. Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) 5. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) 6. Im there with ya bro, my first early theater experience come from LOTR trilogy(saw all 3 in theater), Star Wars PreQuels and early X-Men movies. King Theodens speech before charge at Pelinor Fields is still top tier.
@@seanyonthemic It's funny when I was young I liked the 3rd and 2nd the most just because of the big battle sequences and the scale. Now that I'm older and understand film a little more I think the first is the greatest. The opening intro is the best scene in movie history. Perfect cast, perfect score and a timeless story that relates to the real world.
@@lethalus3494 I just love all 3. They switch. At the time I wrote this I was loving part 2. I love the first film still. They’re all equal to me lol it’s hard to choose. I usually go 3-1-2.

Great ranking! I love all films in this. Funny enough I met Elijah Wood last year at Motor City Comic Con, took me three hours in line, so I popped on The Fellowship of the Ring on my phone and it finished right on time when it was my turn to meet him. Awesome guy!
I remember you saying you haven't watched this movie when you linked with Sean and did those Q&A's, so I suggest watching the Princess Bride, very good fantasy movie
That is one of those movies that a lot of people say is great, but I honestly just didn't get it. But I saw it later in life....maybe requires nostalgia?
@@SP69462 objectively it's a pretty average movie maybe above average, but I can't explain why I love it so much. I don't even have nostalgia for it the movie came out like 15yrs before I was born 💀
Haven't seen the Narnia movies: 28. Attack of the Clones 27. Crimes of Grindelwald 26. Rise of Skywalker 25. Solo 24. Last Jedi 23. Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them 22. Phantom Menace 21. Desolation of Smaug 4. Prisoner of Azkaban The rest of the list was pretty hard, but the top 3 wer so easy, I didn't even have to think about it. Best trilogy ever by a landslide and the greatest movies on this list by a country mile. 3. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 1. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of thr King
I agree with your Lord of the Rings take but I'd say Fellowship is the best. The Hobbit trilogy was such a let down I think all of the Harry Potter movies are better (not fantastic beasts).
Completely disagree on this ranking, but still nice to see a different take. I would definitely have The Rise of Skywalker and The Last Jedi at 31 and 30
@@craigsovilla6578Absolutely agree. One of the most if not the most terrible movies ever. At least Attack and Phantom have some good action scenes. TRoS doesn't even have that
@@craigsovilla6578Last Jedi is pretty underrated and it actually kinda grew on me. Rise is indeed godawful though. The only Star Wars film a genuinely hate
Wow Cody! You are the champion of rankings! Nice to see Harry Potter got such a great representation from a guy who just watched it recently! Love this channel brah
People seem to forget that "subverting expectations" doesn't automatically mean that it's a good choice. Sure, having something different can be good and/or refreshing, but that's no guarantee that it will work.

Honestly, I know you said you only read the first Harry Potter book, I recommend them. Watching your ranking of them in this (and your previous video) made me want to reread the books. Big part of my middle school experience!
I feel like this is one of the most difficult 31 on 31s to figure out who's on top. To me, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Harry Potter all have great movies, and Narnia is at the very least good on all three of its movies.
Well I am a pretty big fantasy fan in film and book form. So mine is definitely different but differences are what makes things interesting, I wouldn't want to watch someone of the same opinion, that's boring yet many people forget that. 31. Crimes of Grindelwald(not a fan of the trilogy so this is going to fill out the bottom three) 30: Secrets of Dumbledore 29: Fantastic Beast 28: Voyage of the Dawn Treader(As a fan of the book, this tried to make a story that was just episode in nature and tried to tie it with the most generic fantasy plot you can imagine). 27: Rise of Skywalker(saw it once in theaters, haven't gone back, probably won't unless someone wants to watch it). 26: Last Jedi(cinematography and performances are generally good or great, story and delivery of it's message along with character handling not so much). 25: Battle of the Five Armies 24: Chamber of Secrets 23: Goblet of Fire 22: Solo 21: Force Awakens 20: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe 19: Attack of the Clones 18: Rogue One 17: Phantom Menace 16: Deathly Hallows Part 1 15: Return of the Jedi 14: Prisoner of Azkaban 13: Desolation of Smaug 12: Prince Caspian 11: Order of the Phoenix 10: Unexpected Journey 9: Deathly Hallows Part 2 8: Philosophers Stone 7: Empire Strikes Back 6: Revenge of the Sith 5: New Hope 4: Half-blood Prince Lump the Trilogy into one movie as my second favorite film of all time 3: Two Towers 2: Return of the King 1: Fellowship of the Ring
Rise of Skywalker is my favorite Star Wars movie and fantasy and even though the sequels was a little inconsistent it just feels like a jam packed final battle and I felt like it had enough build up so even though a lot of people dont like I adore it and it will never change for me even if a future star wars movie undoes it
Fellowship of the Ring is my favorite movie, so it's my #1 and Return of the King and Two Towers are my #2 and #3. I'm also in the very small minority that I actually like the prequel Star Wars trilogy a lot (way more than the sequel trilogy). I really like the Jedi at the end of their prime and the lightsaber fights are at their best. I know it's not the best reason to like a movie, but a good lightsaber fight entertains me. Looking forward to the debrief, I think there are a lot of differences in rankings!
I'm watching this for fun a year on, and the way Cody describes Fellowship of the Ring--my favorite movie, and he says he felt exhausted watching it--that's how I felt watching John Wick 4. I liked it, but really felt that run time. I do not feel that watching the extended edition of Fellowship.
I love goblet of fire the first really dark movie in the franchise. Voldermorts first physical appearance was awesome and scary. The different challenges Harry went through was pretty fun for him to navigate through.
That's a rad list! It would be interesting to see your views on the 1980's fantasy scene (Neverending Story, Legend, Labyrinth, Princess Bride, Dark Crystal, Willow, Heavy Metal, etc)
I love Harry Potter the deathly hallows part 2 it was emotional, serious, dark and it was a satisfying ending to one of the best franchises I ever watched.
Cody definitely would've liked LOTR much better with the theatrical cuts. That being said I actually enjoy the last Jedi quite a bit because it tried to do something new and whether it succeeded or not I'd rather a movie try something new like TLJ than a movie that tries way too hard to stick to the status quo and retcon everything (ROS). I know that TLJ kinda retconned some stuff from TFA but idk I really enjoyed the concept of Luke's character arc and I LOVED the twist that Rey is a nobody. It makes the force feel so much better imo as you don't need to be the son or daughter of someone special to be able to use the force. ROS was incredibly safe and went back on everything I enjoyed about the previous movies
I'm glad that I watched the theatrical cuts of LOTR when I first got into the trilogy. I still haven't seen any of the full extended editions, but from some of the clips I've seen, I'd say they are a positive addition to the films. I seldom prefer the extended cuts to the theatrical ones. (Take Peter Jackson's King Kong, for instance; the extended edition adds a couple of gratuitous prehistoric-creature attacks and a silly gag involving a truckful of soldiers). However, when you have a franchise as inherently lore-filled as LOTR, I think they're in order.
We had like a week or so that we set aside that every day we would watch one lord of the rings movie, I think we watched the extended versions and sometimes we wouldn’t be able to finish the whole movie that day do to circumstances but I fell in love with them. Sure you might get exhausted with them if you do a movie marathon but I think the right way to watch them is one movie per day
1. HP Deathly Hallows Pt. II 2. SW Empire Strikes Back 3. HP Prisoner of Azkaban 4. LOTR Return of The King 5. HP Goblet of Fire 6. LOTR The Two Towers 7. HP Order of Phoenix 8. Here is my list: starting with the ones I hate: 31. Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Nothing there to say. I hate it for what it did to Luke and many other reasons, but the worst thing about it is that it’s how boring it is. 30. Star Wars: The Rise Of The Skywalker. What a weak film to bring back Palpatin. Didn’t liked the last fight or the ending of the trilogy at all. 29. The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug. The whole movie felt like a filler. Didn’t care for any of the characters or that forced Dwarf-Elf relationship. 28. Solo: A Star Wars Movie. Didn’t care for the casting, writing and specially the Disney milking. Now for movies I just didn’t liked. 27. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore. Just didn’t liked anything about it, specially the whole story with Queenie. 26. The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies. Felt very lazy and tired even though it was packed with events. 25.Narnia 3(not gonna write it lol). A very disappointing ending for a nice trilogy. 24. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald. I know it’s a hot take bot I prefer this one over the third. Its just a movie I have no filings towards. Now for the movies I kinda like but don’t watch that often. 23. Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I liked at first but the rest of the trilogy left me with a bad taste. Plus they ruined Han Solo for me. 22. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It’s an okay slow burn adventure film but the Dwarves aren’t that interesting to me. 21. Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. To me it’s a decent film. I really liked Newt but I don’t like to rewatch because I didn’t care for the rest of the films. 20. Narnia 2. I like this movie but I think it’s less better than the first one. 19. Rouge One: A Star Wars Story. It was good, definitely the best Disney Star Wars Film. But for me only parts of it were really great. 18. Narnia(the first one). I liked some parts of it a lot, but the victory was painfully rushed and no one will sell out their family for Turkish delights. From here on out are all movies I consider great and can rewatch any time: 17. Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones. Yeah I know it’s deeply flawed but I really like the detective Obi Wan parts and the epic final fight. Plus I love the sand parts, they make laugh. 16. The Lord Of Rings: The Return Of The King. A great ending to a great trilogy. The ending is a bit long and I actually don’t like any of the fights but I still like it a lot. 15. Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. The nostalgia I have for this movie is off the charts. From the Pod race to the final battle. 14. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hollows Part 1. A great set up film that gets better upon every rewatch. The last 20 minutes are pure gold but the rest of it is kinda dragged. 13. Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets. A great follow up to first one. Gildroy and Lucius stole the show. 12. Star Wars: A New Hope. I know for some of you it might be really low but for me it was never as great as it’s sequels. Still a great that gave us one of the most amazing movie villains, heros and universe ever. 11. Harry Potter And The Half Blooded Prince. I actually like the teen drama vibes mixed with the Half Blooded Prince mystery and all the stuff with Draco. 10. Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of Ring. One of the best book to movie adaptations ever. Such a colourful film with epic characters. Only thing I dislikes about it is how easily Aragon defeat the Ryders. Lol. From now on all the movies are all movies I actually love. 9. Harry Potter And The Philosopher Stone. Such a great introduction to the wizarding world. I love everything about it from the casting to actual plot. 8. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hollows Part 2. An epic conclusion to this epic tale. I love it! The battle of Hogwarts should have been more flashed out but the Snape flashback is amazing. 7. Star Wars: The Return Of The Jedi. Such a great film. A great way to finish the trilogy. Only reason it’s not even higher is that don’t love the whole Ewok plot. 6. Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkhaban. I love to rewatch the movie because of the time travel element. Great plot and Characters. No flaws for me. 5. Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire. I love this movie. From the tournament to the epic showdown at the graveyard. So epic. And it’s very fun to rewatch because of twist. 4. The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers. The best one in the franchise in my eyes. The final battle is so epic and the Journey parts are also really good. So epic! 3. Star Wars: The Revenge Of The Sith. It’s got some minor flaws but the high parts are so freaking high. Epic last showdown. I love this film. 2. Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix. A great film from the actual school year to the epic showdown. I love Harry’s training scenes, both with his classmates or Snape. I love it. 1. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. This movie has the perfect combination of the two elements I love the most in a Star Wars film: action and adventure. So many iconic parts. I love it.
I’ve only seen the first Narnia film but I’ve seen all of the other movies. Also note that it’s been a couple of years since I’ve rewatched all of the Star Wars movies and I hope to rewatch them soon. 29. Attack of The Clones - 45% 28. Crimes of Grindelwald - 50% 27. As a kid who read the Hobbit and TLOTR books I can see why you had issues. The Hobbit should've been made first as it was the first book. The Lion, Witch and Wardrobe books were excellent as a kid but I couldn't get into the movies much. I disliked all of the Fantastic Beasts movies. The newer Stars Wars Trilogy I agree is bad lol. I liked Revenge of the Sith but the others really pale to the OG movies

Nice video. Well done. Even if fantasy isn’t your thing you articulate your opinion very well. The love of movies is on point. And you show them all great respect 😁
I grew up on Lord of the Rings and Star Wars and became a Potterhead 2 years ago, love rewatching these franchises some of my favorites Masterpieces 1. The Return of the King (an absolute masterpiece of a film, the only flaw of the film is that it has too many endings) 2. The Fellowship of the Ring (my most rewatched film of all time, does a phenomenal job of worldbuilding, characters are interesting and people you can relate to) 3. The Two Towers (my favorite trilogy growing up, I just didn't like this one as much as the other two) 4. Deathly Hallows Part 2 (Very satisfying payoffs, love the action sequences, and has great character moments) 5. The Empire Strikes Back (Best Star Wars film, takes the original and ups the ante in the right ways) 6. A New Hope (Classic film, one of the greatest of all time, the only problem I have with it is that it starts out kind of slow) 7. The Prisoner of Azkaban (best-directed film of Harry Potter, very unique visual style, and who doesn't like a time travel story) Great 8. Order of the Phoneix (duel between Voldemort and Dumbledore is my favorite moment in Harry Potter, Umbridge is a good villain) 9. Sorceror's Stone (great introduction to Hogwarts, very magical film, I have rewatched this one the most of the Harry Potter films) 10. Return of the Jedi (loved the relationship between Vader and Luke but feel like other aspects of the film haven't aged as well, never liked the Ewoks) 11. The Force Awakens (Rewatched this one recently, had a blast with it, lots of fun, Kylo Ren is great) 12. Rogue One (I call this one Episode 3.5, it does a good job of bridging the gap, hallway Vader scene is one of the best moments in Star Wars, underdeveloped characters that I didn't connect with that much) Good 13. Deathly Hallows Part 1 (The chase scene is really well done and thought it did well adapting the first half of the book) 14. Chamber of Secrets (good adaptation of the book, slow at times and drags a bit which is understandable but it's enjoyable) 15. Goblet of Fire (I thought Mike Newell did a poor job of adapting the book, the tone at times feels off too. He should have built on what Alfonso had done in the previous film like how Chirstopher Nolan built his Dark Knight trilogy, needed to be more consistent within the Wizarding World) 16. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (Nostalgia glasses might be on for me since I grew up with it so I have happy memories with it, used to watch it on my birthday when I was younger. I like this one more than I probably should) Solid 17. Revenge of the Sith (Best of the Prequels, this one has grown on me and will probably continue to do so) 18. An Unexpected Journey (Best of the Hobbit films, cave scene with Gollum was the highlight) 19. Half-Blood Prince (the cinematography is visually unappealing, it's too dark, did not do a good job of adapting the book) Average 20. The Last Jedi (ruined Luke Skywalker in my opinion and the Rose Finn plotline is one of the worst in Star Wars) 21. Solo (a pretty safe film that doesn't take a lot of risks but that's ok, it understands what it is) 22. Rise of Skywalker (tried to undo The Last Jedi so the narrative wasn't as smooth as it should be) 23. Prince Caspian (fun adventure film but it's fine, doesn't do much for me) 24. The Desolation of Smaug (CGI is way overdone, Martin Freeman is good as Bilbo though) 25. The Phantom Menace (it's grown on me a little bit but still has its flaws) 26. Attack of the Clones (bad acting, cringy dialogue, and a romance I don't buy, felt like a video game at times Bad 27. Secrets of Dumbledore (best of the Beasts films but that's not saying much, felt underwhelming) 28. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (not interested in the main characters, doesn't have the Harry Potter magic) 29. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (It's not memorable and feels rushed) 30. Battle of Five Armies (don't stretch out a section of a novel that is about 5 pages into a 2 hour movie) 31. Crimes of Grindelwald (one of the worst films I've ever seen, very convoluted)
I love order of the phexiox I love the physiological aspect of how Voldement affected Harry the final battle was breathtaking and sirus black dying was sad.
Awesome video!! Its really cool seeing you step outside your comfort zone and explore something new, because even when it’s not your thing, you’re still able to find things you enjoy ☺️ I’m also not big into fantasy, unless it comes with the label “Blizzard Entertainment” lmao. I’m not sure why RPG games are an exception but I’ve loved them for decades.
Cody gonna share something about last jedi you made the same comment i hear quite often and that is because people forget to connect 7 with 8 Luke went to find the 1st jedi temple to see where he & the jedi went wrong but when he found it he found out that the jedi were alway flawed that this battle between the light and dark was neverending as long as each side kept passing the torch he decided hang it up and let the galaxy deal with its issues thinking if he stopped this war would end he wasnt hiding just retired the temple was just hard to find without a map.
Oh damn I completely had a mind blank with the date and forgot this dropped today! Gonna be hard to knock Empire from my top spot, hell my top 3 might all be Star Wars films😅 Amazing video as usual Cody, always love these videos and glad you got to step into a different genre for some content😁
I love Harry Potter and the half blood prince it was emotional when Dumbledore died 😔 but I was really interested in who the half blood prince was. When I learned it was Snape I was really surprised
I love Middle Earth, I grew up loving the world. The Hobbit has been my favorite book my entire life. Peter Jackson butchered it. He tried to make it way too much like The Lord of The Rings and its not. The Hobbit is way more whimsical and he killed the charm.
This may be the best UA-cam video I have ever seen. My 30 (I didn’t see the new Fantastic Beasts movie) (Offensively bad and will never rewatch) 30. Rise of Skywalker 29. The last Jedi 28. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince 27: Attack of the Clones (Forgettable but not horrible) 26. Solo 25. Dawn Treader (Narnia 3) 24. Crimes of Grindwald 23. Battle of the 5 armies (Movies that aren’t perfect but will watch if on TNT) 22. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Fantastic Beasts here 21. Hobbit: DOS 20. Hobbit: Unexpected Journey 19. Prince Caspin 18. Star Wars 7 (this was much higher on my list but was brought down a lot by what came after) 17. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (All good movies I would seek out) 16. Rogue One 15. Harry Potter 7 part 1 14. Harry Potter 4 13. Harry Potter 1 12. (Oh boy here we go) Empire Strikes Back 11. (And here comes the burn the witch….) The Phantom Menace 10. Return of the Jedi 1. Return of the King Boy I am gonna get in trouble for this……
It's a shame that Narnia never really kicked off and became as big as LOTR and Star Wars, especially since that first Narnia movie was huge. I remember the whole family going to see that, it was an event! Can't wait for the next 31 on 31!
The Hobbit movies were awesome to me because I appreciated the way that each race, especially the Orcs spoke their own languages more than they did in the LOTR trilogy. The Orcs speaking perfect British English never looked right to me.
Actually, the Orcs spoke working-class British English. "We ain't had nothing but maggoty bread for three stinking days!" "This fellow ain't dead." "We're not goin' no further till we've had a breather!" Most of the good peoples of Middle-Earth speak refined British English, but the evil Orcs speak in "ain't"s and double negatives. I wonder what Tolkien meant by that. Then again, the noble servant Samwise also incorporates some double negatives and "ain't"s into his dialogue, so the franchise doesn't totally hate working-class folks.

And can someone please explain to me wtf the hate of Hayden Christensen is all about? Dialogue is rough at times but I’ve heard people say they don’t like the prequels because he isn’t what they imagined good Vader as. Wtf do you imagine him as? He’s a teenager he’s supposed to be immature.

I will only do a top 10 10) Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire "Harry grows up in an instant, and the film does, too." Score: 3/4 9) Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince "I think this film really sets up the next two instalments of the franchise nicely." Score: 3/4 8) Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban "For Harry Potter, at least, the third time's a charm." Score: 3/4 7) Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back "A spectacular sequel to 'star wars' but not as good." Score: 3.5/4 6) Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi "the film catches many of Star Wars’ most important themes. It tells me that organizations such as ‘The Empire’ and ‘The First Order are doomed to fail because the story of Luke will continue to inspire others, even long after his death." Score: 3.5/4 5) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 "Well done Harry! You've saved the best for last." Score: 3.5/4 4) The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers "Peter Jackson's Tolkien adaptation hasn't lost its devastating humanity, its heart-stopping cinematography or its epic sweep." Score: 3.5/4 3) The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings "shot through with an aged-in-oak sense of wonder, the trilogy's first film so thrillingly catches us up in its sweeping story that nothing matters but the vivid and compelling events unfolding on the screen." Score: 4/4 2) Star Wars "George Lucas has made the kind of sci-fi adventure movie you dream about finding. When I first saw this film, I was blown away, and have remained blown away ever since." Score: 4/4 1) The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King "Those who have walked beside these heroes every step of the way on such a long journey deserve the emotional pay-off as well as the action peaks." Score: 4/4
In terms of sheer quality return of the king is the best. The dialogue, the acting, the cinematography are perfect and done so well. It has reaches these levels of perfection where other films on this list struggle to. However, I did rewatch prisoner of Azkaban yesterday and I really underestimated it’s quality. But I do respect this list, Empire Strikes Back is possibly the best sequel of all time. The famous quotes, the character development and the dynamic of Yoda and Luke on dagobah aswell as Vader and Luke in the final act has always been memorable for me
My list would match up pretty close with Cody’s but my top 2 are Star Wars Revenge of the Sith and LOTR Return of the King. I’m surprised more people don’t think Revenge of the Sith should be really close to the top.

I loved the socressor stone it was a good intro story to the Harry Potter universe I was so intrigued by how Harry realized he was a wizard and him and his friends start to learn some things about magic
Whether you love or hate The Last Jedi, at least it decided to go somewhere. Colin Trevorrow's Duel of the Fates would have continued and concluded it. The fact that they didn't plan out the trilogy would still have been felt, but at least it would have been a somewhat coherent experience. Instead, The Rise of Skywalker backed out on everything and made the whole trilogy feel more discombobulated than it already was.
I like when Cody wonders outside of his comfort zone and experiences new genres (while remaining a predominantly horror channel). Maybe a Studio Ghibli ranking down the road?
Ugh, shouldn’t have listened to ppl telling you to watch the extended versions of LOTR. I get that ppl want to spend more time in the world, but as someone who has seen these movies over 100 times each, the theatrical cuts are better films. The pacing is better and some of the extra scenes in the extended versions are not well acted and were clearly cut for that reason. I like watching the extended versions too, but they are worse as films. The only one where i think a few of the cut scenes are better off being in the film is Return of the King. The extra scenes for the battle of Minas Tirith are welcomed by me. Seeing Gothmog get taken out is cool.
I can't rank all 31 however my favorite movie from each franchise is Star Wars: Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire LOTR: Return of the King Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug CON: Lion witch and the wardrobe.
Nice to see the rankings of a non fantasy fan, that is cool. However, how you could put anything underneath Episode IX is ridiculous. One of the worst movies ever made. Even its visuals are terrible.
I always watch your videos because you pretty much have the same tastes and opinions as I do in regards to movies. .. I probably said that before. But never has it been more evident til now. I'm not a fantasy guy really. I'm a star wars guy yes...middle earth ..took me forever to get into. I remember my friends dragging me to return of the king and I hadn't seen the other 2....took a 4 hour nap. Finally watched them and really like them..however my ex wife made me watch the Harry Potter movies with her ..probably payback for making her watch every Halloween movie...I can't remember one thing about them.. not 1. I know I watched . But I must have blanked out. Not my thing..along with Narnia and fantastic beasts..never saw and have no desire. So basically I can only relate to 17 of the 31 movies. Star wars and middle earth movies. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to the debrief
Never was a fan of Narnia. Actually agree with your placings of Star Wars movies. Generally watch your horror movie reviews, glad I came across this one. Lord of the Rings in my mind is ten times better than The Hobbit Trilogy
Okay so I didn't hate rise of Skywalker but I didn't love it. I didn't like how there was no explanation of how palitine survived. I didn't like Chewbaccas fake death. And the ending was a little weird to me. But I liked everything else
Yes, unlike every other franchise that had a part 2 finale like the Hunger games, the hobbit and Twilight were you can pretty much make everything in a 2+ hour movie, they thankfully decided to split the deathly hallows into to parts
Love a new hope now the first half was to slow for me but once Luke meets Han and resuces Leia and blows up the first death star. And meeting a old obi wan that was amazing
Star Wars is awesome :)
Harry Potter is fun enough.
Glad you dived in for a bit :)

Im there with ya bro, my first early theater experience come from LOTR trilogy(saw all 3 in theater), Star Wars PreQuels and early X-Men movies. King Theodens speech before charge at Pelinor Fields is still top tier.
Interesting you have the Fellowship lowest of the LOTR.
@@lethalus3494 all 3 are on the same level. It switches often

Great ranking! I love all films in this. Funny enough I met Elijah Wood last year at Motor City Comic Con, took me three hours in line, so I popped on The Fellowship of the Ring on my phone and it finished right on time when it was my turn to meet him. Awesome guy!
That movie's runtime was never too long. Nor was it too short. It concluded precisely when it was meant to.
@@gnc623 for real , i have a bit of nostalgia for this movie and anything that is not a swordfight is just meh
@@gnc623 I think it's just the kind of movie where it's either going to click with you or it's not.

@@SP69462 objectively it's a pretty average movie maybe above average, but I can't explain why I love it so much. I don't even have nostalgia for it the movie came out like 15yrs before I was born 💀
LOTR-trilogy is and will be my favourite. I love those 3 movies so mutch. Must watch at least once every year.
Haven't seen the Narnia movies:

The rest of the list was pretty hard, but the top 3 wer so easy, I didn't even have to think about it. Best trilogy ever by a landslide and the greatest movies on this list by a country mile.
3. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
2. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
I would definitely have The Rise of Skywalker and The Last Jedi at 31 and 30
Well then you need to watch more movies cause no rankings much less star was are those the worst 😂
Bro rise and last Jedi are not good but attack of the clones is a genuinely awful movie
@christiannichols6751 Rise completely ignores canon lore in multiple scenes and instances. It's objectively the worst of this entire list, bar none.
Nobody who ranks The Last Jedi over either of the first two Narnia movies is a "champion of rankings".
People seem to forget that "subverting expectations" doesn't automatically mean that it's a good choice. Sure, having something different can be good and/or refreshing, but that's no guarantee that it will work.
You can say that again!
Also I'd like to add on that "subverting expectations" is not always going to work for everyone.

Honestly, I know you said you only read the first Harry Potter book, I recommend them. Watching your ranking of them in this (and your previous video) made me want to reread the books. Big part of my middle school experience!
Let's go!!! Empire Strikes back is my favorite film of all time so I'm so hyped you love it too!
31. Crimes of Grindelwald(not a fan of the trilogy so this is going to fill out the bottom three)
30: Secrets of Dumbledore
29: Fantastic Beast
28: Voyage of the Dawn Treader(As a fan of the book, this tried to make a story that was just episode in nature and tried to tie it with the most generic fantasy plot you can imagine).
27: Rise of Skywalker(saw it once in theaters, haven't gone back, probably won't unless someone wants to watch it).
26: Last Jedi(cinematography and performances are generally good or great, story and delivery of it's message along with character handling not so much).
25: Battle of the Five Armies
24: Chamber of Secrets
23: Goblet of Fire
22: Solo
21: Force Awakens
20: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
19: Attack of the Clones
18: Rogue One
17: Phantom Menace
16: Deathly Hallows Part 1
15: Return of the Jedi
14: Prisoner of Azkaban
13: Desolation of Smaug
12: Prince Caspian
11: Order of the Phoenix
10: Unexpected Journey
9: Deathly Hallows Part 2
8: Philosophers Stone
7: Empire Strikes Back
6: Revenge of the Sith
5: New Hope
4: Half-blood Prince
Lump the Trilogy into one movie as my second favorite film of all time
3: Two Towers
2: Return of the King
1: Fellowship of the Ring
Rise of Skywalker is my favorite Star Wars movie and fantasy and even though the sequels was a little inconsistent it just feels like a jam packed final battle and I felt like it had enough build up so even though a lot of people dont like I adore it and it will never change for me even if a future star wars movie undoes it
My favorite is LOTR: The Two Towers but I think the most underrated is Desolation of Smaug
LOTR >>>> everything else
It breaks my heart that Cody has them ranked so low lol but hey we like what we like.
This is awesome. I can't wait to watch all 3. Great job Cody. I respect your ranking.👏
This is a perfect example of why some people shouldn't be allowed to share their opinions
II

5. HP Goblet of Fire
6. LOTR The Two Towers
7. HP Order of Phoenix
8. LOTR Fellowship of The Ring
9. SW Return of The Jedi
10. HP Half Blood Prince
I’ll keep my list short at top ten. I’m loving these rankings Cody!
31. Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald
30. Star Wars Episode 1: Phantom Menace
29. Narnia: dawn treader
28. Narnia: lion witch and wardrobe
27. Narnia: Prince Caspian
26. Fantastic Beasts: Secrets Of Dumbledore
25. The Hobbit: Battle Of Five Armies

7. Return Of The Jedi
6. Prisoner Of Azkaban
5. Goblet Of Fire
4. The Two Towers
3. Empire Strikes Back
2. Fellowship Of The Ring
1. Return Of The King
Here is my list: starting with the ones I hate:
From here on out are all movies I consider great and can rewatch any time:
I love it.
nice list, you went all out
I’ve only seen the first Narnia film but I’ve seen all of the other movies. Also note that it’s been a couple of years since I’ve rewatched all of the Star Wars movies and I hope to rewatch them soon.

I’ve never seen any of the Narnia or Harry Potter movies 😬😬😬
In my personal opinion no movie have come close to be better then lord of the rings
I absolutely loved revenge of the sith I absolutely loved it's dark ascepts
To me the only extended version that is better is Return of the king. Two scenes that I’ll never understand was cut was Saromaun death scene and the mouth of Sauron scene.
I guess I can't make an honest ranking, since I prefer the six saga Star Wars movies over anything else in this list.
@Mark S there are actually 9 saga movies mate, I would like to forget a few of them as well lol.
I also never got into the Harry Potter movies either

This is a tough list for sure.
Nice video. Well done. Even if fantasy isn’t your thing you articulate your opinion very well. The love of movies is on point. And you show them all great respect 😁
I grew up on Lord of the Rings and Star Wars and became a Potterhead 2 years ago, love rewatching these franchises some of my favorites
Masterpieces
1. The Return of the King (an absolute masterpiece of a film, the only flaw of the film is that it has too many endings)
2. The Fellowship of the Ring (my most rewatched film of all time, does a phenomenal job of worldbuilding, characters are interesting and people you can relate to)
3. The Two Towers (my favorite trilogy growing up, I just didn't like this one as much as the other two)
4. Deathly Hallows Part 2 (Very satisfying payoffs, love the action sequences, and has great character moments)
5. The Empire Strikes Back (Best Star Wars film, takes the original and ups the ante in the right ways)
6. A New Hope (Classic film, one of the greatest of all time, the only problem I have with it is that it starts out kind of slow)
7. The Prisoner of Azkaban (best-directed film of Harry Potter, very unique visual style, and who doesn't like a time travel story)
Great
8. Order of the Phoneix (duel between Voldemort and Dumbledore is my favorite moment in Harry Potter, Umbridge is a good villain)
9. Sorceror's Stone (great introduction to Hogwarts, very magical film, I have rewatched this one the most of the Harry Potter films)
10. Return of the Jedi (loved the relationship between Vader and Luke but feel like other aspects of the film haven't aged as well, never liked the Ewoks)
11. The Force Awakens (Rewatched this one recently, had a blast with it, lots of fun, Kylo Ren is great)
12. Rogue One (I call this one Episode 3.5, it does a good job of bridging the gap, hallway Vader scene is one of the best moments in Star Wars, underdeveloped characters that I didn't connect with that much)
Good
13. Deathly Hallows Part 1 (The chase scene is really well done and thought it did well adapting the first half of the book)
14. Chamber of Secrets (good adaptation of the book, slow at times and drags a bit which is understandable but it's enjoyable)
15. Goblet of Fire (I thought Mike Newell did a poor job of adapting the book, the tone at times feels off too. He should have built on what Alfonso had done in the previous film like how Chirstopher Nolan built his Dark Knight trilogy, needed to be more consistent within the Wizarding World)
16. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (Nostalgia glasses might be on for me since I grew up with it so I have happy memories with it, used to watch it on my birthday when I was younger. I like this one more than I probably should)
Solid
17. Revenge of the Sith (Best of the Prequels, this one has grown on me and will probably continue to do so)
18. An Unexpected Journey (Best of the Hobbit films, cave scene with Gollum was the highlight)
19. Half-Blood Prince (the cinematography is visually unappealing, it's too dark, did not do a good job of adapting the book)
Average
20. The Last Jedi (ruined Luke Skywalker in my opinion and the Rose Finn plotline is one of the worst in Star Wars)
21. Solo (a pretty safe film that doesn't take a lot of risks but that's ok, it understands what it is)
22. Rise of Skywalker (tried to undo The Last Jedi so the narrative wasn't as smooth as it should be)
23. Prince Caspian (fun adventure film but it's fine, doesn't do much for me)
24. The Desolation of Smaug (CGI is way overdone, Martin Freeman is good as Bilbo though)
25. The Phantom Menace (it's grown on me a little bit but still has its flaws)
26. Attack of the Clones (bad acting, cringy dialogue, and a romance I don't buy, felt like a video game at times
Bad
27. Secrets of Dumbledore (best of the Beasts films but that's not saying much, felt underwhelming)
28. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (not interested in the main characters, doesn't have the Harry Potter magic)
29. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (It's not memorable and feels rushed)
30. Battle of Five Armies (don't stretch out a section of a novel that is about 5 pages into a 2 hour movie)
31. Crimes of Grindelwald (one of the worst films I've ever seen, very convoluted)
I love order of the phexiox I love the physiological aspect of how Voldement affected Harry the final battle was breathtaking and sirus black dying was sad.
Phoenix
Awesome video!! Its really cool seeing you step outside your comfort zone and explore something new, because even when it’s not your thing, you’re still able to find things you enjoy ☺️
I’m also not big into fantasy, unless it comes with the label “Blizzard Entertainment” lmao. I’m not sure why RPG games are an exception but I’ve loved them for decades.
Star Wars the empire strikes back and lord of the rings return of the king are the unanimous agreement for the best
Gonna be hard to knock Empire from my top spot, hell my top 3 might all be Star Wars films😅
Amazing video as usual Cody, always love these videos and glad you got to step into a different genre for some content😁
I love Harry Potter and the half blood prince it was emotional when Dumbledore died 😔 but I was really interested in who the half blood prince was. When I learned it was Snape I was really surprised
This is where the fun begins.
I love Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets it kept me intrigued the whole time
I love Middle Earth, I grew up loving the world. The Hobbit has been my favorite book my entire life. Peter Jackson butchered it. He tried to make it way too much like The Lord of The Rings and its not. The Hobbit is way more whimsical and he killed the charm.
This may be the best UA-cam video I have ever seen. My 30 (I didn’t see the new Fantastic Beasts movie)
(Offensively bad and will never rewatch)

1. Return of the King
Boy I am gonna get in trouble for this……
How are you gonna rate EPI OVER EPV!??? And AOTC over BOTH??
@@H0und0fHircin3 for me 5 is a good movie, but it lulls hard in the middle for me. It’s still a great movie. Just my preference
I guess in the half blood Prince placement has to do with your love for the book and hate for the changes they made
It's a shame that Narnia never really kicked off and became as big as LOTR and Star Wars, especially since that first Narnia movie was huge. I remember the whole family going to see that, it was an event! Can't wait for the next 31 on 31!
fr how come only the first 3 books got a movie adaptation and the rest didn't
I don’t see how u the rise of skywalker is better than the last Jedi in any way

Honestly 23 and above I like them all but I couldn’t get into the hobbit trilogy, the Star Wars sequels, and fantastic beast prequels are all just all over the place.

I will only do a top 10
10) Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
"Harry grows up in an instant, and the film does, too." Score: 3/4
9) Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
"I think this film really sets up the next two instalments of the franchise nicely." Score: 3/4
8) Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
"For Harry Potter, at least, the third time's a charm." Score: 3/4
7) Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
"A spectacular sequel to 'star wars' but not as good." Score: 3.5/4
6) Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
"the film catches many of Star Wars’ most important themes. It tells me that organizations such as ‘The Empire’ and ‘The First Order are doomed to fail because the story of Luke will continue to inspire others, even long after his death." Score: 3.5/4
5) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
"Well done Harry! You've saved the best for last." Score: 3.5/4
4) The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
"Peter Jackson's Tolkien adaptation hasn't lost its devastating humanity, its heart-stopping cinematography or its epic sweep." Score: 3.5/4
3) The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings
"shot through with an aged-in-oak sense of wonder, the trilogy's first film so thrillingly catches us up in its sweeping story that nothing matters but the vivid and compelling events unfolding on the screen."
Score: 4/4
2) Star Wars
"George Lucas has made the kind of sci-fi adventure movie you dream about finding. When I first saw this film, I was blown away, and have remained blown away ever since." Score: 4/4
1) The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
"Those who have walked beside these heroes every step of the way on such a long journey deserve the emotional pay-off as well as the action peaks." Score: 4/4
Revenge is the best Sw film

Never seen the Chronicles of Narnia so I cannot rank them.
I loved the socressor stone it was a good intro story to the Harry Potter universe I was so intrigued by how Harry realized he was a wizard and him and his friends start to learn some things about magic
I'm happy to see The Last Jedi made it out of the bottom 10 lol
I hate that movie
I just watch all 3 of the first lord of the rings movies for the first time about 2 weeks ago.
My top 6 would be the LOTR trilogy in top 3 then the OG star wars trilogy as 4-6
Whether you love or hate The Last Jedi, at least it decided to go somewhere.
As much as I’d dig that, he’s expressed multiple times he’s not into anime at all so it’s doubtful
@@xbonedogI’m not into anime but I still love some Studio Ghibli movies
I love empire strikes back it's also my favorite star wars movie
I can't rank all 31 however my favorite movie from each franchise is
Star Wars: Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith
Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire
LOTR: Return of the King
Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug
CON: Lion witch and the wardrobe.
Nice to see the rankings of a non fantasy fan, that is cool. However, how you could put anything underneath Episode IX is ridiculous. One of the worst movies ever made. Even its visuals are terrible.
Oh dude have you finaly watched LOTR!! Now I can respect you as a movie fan.
Grew up on Harry Potter, always feeling Chamber of Secrets was best book and Goblet of Fire was best movie. Great video all around!
Imo Unexpected Journey is the worst out of all these movies. It’s obnoxious kiddy cgi crap that gets dragged out to an unbearable length.
hey Cody are we still getting a debrief on this 31 on 31?
No
@@CodyLeachYT :(
I always watch your videos because you pretty much have the same tastes and opinions as I do in regards to movies.
Imo Revenge Of The Sith is wayyyyy too low.
Have you finished watching LOTR 2 & 3?
Okay so I didn't hate rise of Skywalker but I didn't love it. I didn't like how there was no explanation of how palitine survived. I didn't like Chewbaccas fake death. And the ending was a little weird to me. But I liked everything else
Happy to see this, love a lot of these franchises but for me, it's LOTR all the way.
Hi Cody, I was just on IMDB and they've announced 'The Collector 3'.
1. empire strikes back....the only one i've seen.
Every time I hear the name “Smaug” I always hear it in Cartmans voice and it always cracks me up.
I’m not gonna lie, Revenge of the Sith is definitely top 3 for me
It was interesting that Goblet Of Fire was your favourite Harry Potter and Bryan’s least favourite.
Gotta love it
I love Harry Potter and the deathly hallows part 1 I felt it really had good character development for Ron Harry and Hermione
And dobbys death was really emotional
Yes, unlike every other franchise that had a part 2 finale like the Hunger games, the hobbit and Twilight were you can pretty much make everything in a 2+ hour movie, they thankfully decided to split the deathly hallows into to parts
I thought star wars the phantom menace was boring especially in the tattoniwine story. But I absolutely loved the Darth maul fights
The Theatrical cuts of Lord of the Rings are muchhh better, those extra scenes needed to be cut. Good List
Love a new hope now the first half was to slow for me but once Luke meets Han and resuces Leia and blows up the first death star. And meeting a old obi wan that was amazing
I love force awakens I absolutely loved the new characters and some old characters and it was emotional seeing Han die 😭
Harry Potter is my favorite franchise
Holy shit this thumbnail just made my day! I didn’t expect this 31 on 31 what an awesome surprise!! Thanks Cody 🤘🏼
I respect the fact you don't love the other movies in be these categories but like how you still was able to break them down like this!!!
