God this movie meant so much to me because it broke down that toxic masculinity of black boys having to do the 'manly' sport instead of doing what they love.
Izzy didn’t love double Dutch tho he loved Mary
@@pleaseshutup7053 false … in the beginning he did it for Mary . But after time he started to love it and that’s why he took it seriously ! That’s why he was able to overcome his bully became he finally accepted his truth and didn’t have to hold back
@@jeffreyh271 he never said he loved it. He just didn’t like boxing anymore Even in the dialogue when explaining everything to his dad he never says he loves and wants to do double Dutch. he just says I want my own life. He was able to over come bully because he was able to show that he doesn’t care about boxing anymore. So why are we trying to fight
@@pleaseshutup7053 I disagree. He didn’t have to say he liked it specifically to see it. As a boxer personally, I understand the love for roping (most people/boxers who use jumprope, develop a love for it because of foot movement) so I think him choosing this instead of boxing only exemplifies his love for it, and seeing his admiration for the girls during their performance only enhanced what he once knew about the craft and footwork
@@nospellcheck the way it was written it was clearly more about him not liking boxing anymore more than anything
When I was a kid I was so shocked when I found out Rodney was the narrator 😅
It always reminds me of Danny Devito narrating Matilda and talking about how smart she was while playing the neglectful parent
It's so obvious when you find out too.
Me too. Character Development 100 right there
Jump In was Disney's first hood movie on the low. As someone who was a little black kid with an afro and was the only guy in his first grade class who could double dutch for more than five minutes, it was funny to me. Underrated Disney movie and Push it to the Limit is still fire today.
There was absolutely nothing hood about this movie 😂 they’re just black actors
@@changesme110yearsago9 fr🤣
ain’t nothing hood about a double dutch tournament 😂
The dad owns a gym and a home what is hood about that
@pleaseshutup7053 you can still own stuff like a gym in the hood. Never seen the Wire?
There seems to be a missing element of sexism in Izzy's character. Like, the movie portrays him as this great guy but there's stuff like Tammy saying they made fun of her for being a female boxer, or Izzy not wanting anyone to know he's hanging out with the girls. The film implies that Izzy learns to stop looking down at girls, but we never see him being unlikeable at the start.
I think him being likable but having these slight misogynist takes is precisely why this is so realistic
I think him having these subtle misogynist traits but still being likable and slowly having those thoughts purged is way more realistic
@@AP-pk6mk…but there are no misogynistic traits. OP said he hasn’t said anything misogynistic.
Push It To the Limit gets all the attention, but Jump To The Rhythm is a really underrated song.
This man will take every opportunity to make sure zeke & luther are mentioned in a video 😭😭😭
Real ones know about Jump In & you know if it got KeKe Palmer in it, it’s gon be a cult classic. Y’all gotta give Mr Nostalgia his props cuz he’s doing everything that needs to be done
Have you heard that Corbin Blu has the 3rd most translated Wikipedia page behind only Jesus and Ghandi? 😂
Wait, what language is it typically translated to? That's wild!
Disney must’ve still been making Keke Palmer their next star when filming this movie, considering it was filmed a year after her unaired pilot that never got picked up. She’s even got 2 songs on the soundtrack.
Also, Shauna (Shanica Knowles) is Amber from Hannah Montana. Just learned that.
Adding to that, the guy that plays Earl is Emmettt from Good Luck Charlie
Aww, this was when Corbin Bleu was untouchable. He was in his heartthrob era here
I didn't know about the age gap then, but i thought Izzy and Mary were cute at the time
Jump in is the black high school musical. No one can convince me otherwise
This
Random memory unlocked: My local YMCA had a Jump In! "premiere party" for all the kids in the neighborhood (me, my little brother, and probably 8 other kids actually showed up) but I remember this bc they gave us all tiny yellow dodgeballs and magnets as freebies..🤷🏽♀ apparently the party was sponsored by VERB, a physical fitness campaign created to entice children to get outside and be active, kinda like Nickelodeon's Day of Play
….we are all just happy to go home with something fun to play with!
This video was hilarious, that "free lunch" joke was crazyy😭
The light instrumental of “dancing crazy” by Miranda Cosgrove really adds to the ambience of this video. Good work. SMACK
This was one of my fave movies as a kid! This and Let it Shine were amazing! To this day I love the music from both. This movie especially stuck out to me because I was such a huge fan of True Jackson VP and HSM
I remember watching this live on Disney Channel, it was such a good movie with an amazing soundtrack
Yessss I remember watching this live as well!!!!
@@AmiriHipHop yes the premier, you don’t have to be all technical stalker! Hahaha (jp)
@@AmiriHipHop oh well you learn something new everyday 😂😂😂 yeah I liked that part too but also I used to be high key jealous of people who can do flips and stuff because I never could 😂😂
I still sing “Push it, push it to the limit, limit” 😂 I really liked this movie as a kid
26:13 Answer: Because they needed to market to black kids. Don’t get me wrong a lot of black kids at the time, me included, liked High School Musical. But it was clearly Disney’s more mainstream project. I mean HSM merch was EVERYWHERE. Hell, Cheetah Girls merch was everywhere. Jump In? Not so much.
That’s probably why classifying this as a cult classic makes sense. It’s a good movie, one of the best DCOMs of that time, but it came at a time when there already 2 big franchises. Jump in was literally in the middle of HSM and Cheetah Girls 2. So it kinda flew under the radar. When I think back, most of the promotion about this movie was that the star was in High School Musical. Hell, the only time “Push It To The Limit” was performed on a large scale was on the HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL CONCERT TOUR!!!
Yes sir, a Jump-In video review. Push It To The Limit by Corbin Bleu is still a banger.
“BABY THIS IS KEKE PALMER” 🤣. I loveee Jump In! Most definitely a classic ❤
THE MINDLESS BEHAVIOR MY GIRL REMIX BEAT AT THE END? OKAY I SEE YOU
finally someone caught that. I've used it in like 2 of my videos and no one has said anything
@@MrNostalgia It's okay, the ppl that get it, get it, the ppl that don't...they just simply never lived
@@makaydaaa 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
The way that this movie got me to learn double Dutch and I showed off to EVERYONE at school will never be forgotten lmao love this movie
You should do a video on the deleted episode of Suite Life of Zack & Cody with Chris Brown and the Cheetah Girls
Speaking of The Suite Life, growing up a diehard fan and Stalgia reminding me of the Pop Up Editions, I remember waiting for them to make a Pop Up Edition for the movie...and they never did. The last DCOM, Lemonade Mouth, ended up being the last DCOM to get a Pop Up Edition.
I recently learned about a short film called "I Gave my Life to Corbin Bleu" and I wanna know your thoughts cause I'm shocked I never knew it existed.
Also great video!
Edit: wrong title
Hope ms keke n her baby things will be ok for her. Great actress.
20:32 what?? I never realized his superhero name is just “Static”
Ya learn something new every day! Lol
The best jump rope movie ever made
The only? What other movies have jump rope as the plot?
Truly a great classic. It really was the breakout moment for Corbin’s music career and Keke’s acting career. It has some flaws but it was the mid 2000s with some messages not being executed properly like today. The soundtrack was also a bop too, I think that this was the only non musical movie to get its own soundtrack at the time (scratch that: Stuck in the Suburbs also got a soundtrack)
Great movie! Great soundtrack! 👏🏾 definitely a classic DCOM
14:55 You calling Earl the wrong name and calling yourself out killed me 😂
i knew this was filmed in Toronto cause half the cast of Degrassi was in it😂😂
the orange gloves and snickers moment had me on a chokehold when i was six years old
jump in is also a fav for the degrassi nerds, there are 4 actors in this movie that are also on degrassi
Honestly, I feel like another reason they made the relationship between Izzy and Mary romantic to avoid people assuming Izzy was gay. This movie plot can already be used as symbolism for a closeted character 🤷🏾♂️ Just a theory tho
Geeez the roasts in this video XD You are ruthless!
Jump In was the last Disney Channel movie I saw before outgrowing the channel that September once Kim Possible ended.
Took the word right out of my mouth
High School Musical did the same thing
i loved this movie so much (and still do) i remember watching it premiere with my mom, my childhood best friend, her brother, and her mom. my mom was so happy to see good representation. i was so happy to hear you mention you watched the pop up edition, i loved those! i still remember "quiet muffin" lmao i rewatched it about 3 years ago, and i still watch the final freestyle event from time to time. corbin bleu actually did a live performance to this song on the hsm tour, i think? it's not the same as what we saw, but impressive none the less. also, i had such a huge crush on him. i loved him more than troy, watched this whenever it came on, watched him on flight 29 down, his short role on both Hannah Montana and Ned's declassified. im shocked that you didn't mention that izzy's best friend is actually Emmett from good luck Charlie (and zeke and Luther fun fact: daniel curtis lee aka kojo, was ivy's bf in two episodes of good luck charlie! he was ray ray)
“I just knocked a bottle of white out off my desk” 😂
My jaw literally dropped at the beginning of this video when you said “Push it to the Limit” was from this movie and not High School Musical so you’re not alone. Swear to God, I always pictured a full choreographed moment with Corbin in a basketball uniform.
12:38 Disney was trying to promote Keke Palmer on the network, think of a Raven Symome successor. They gave Keke her own pilot Keke and Jamal in 2005 but it didn’t get picked up. I think you can give the movie a pass with the Starstruck logic 😂
What about Keke gave them the idea to raise another Raven successor?
@@ninjanibba4259I don’t think the unaired pilot was supposed to be a successor to Raven. They used the same cafeteria set though
When you mentioned that the movie was taken place in Toronto, I immediately saw actors from Degrassi, which is one of my teen drama show. This movie brought my sister, my mom who use to double Dutch, and I together all the time! Thank you for the review
Omg yes any time I see a degrassi character in something, I’m like yeah this was def filmed in Toronto lmaooo
Degrassi is EVERYONES favorite teen show, it’s gotten good popularity throughout the years too
That yo mama joke was crazy 😂
1:31 As well as all three Zombies movies. And Camp Rock 2. And How To Build A Better Boy and...okay, this dude has a LOOOOOOOONG resume, he's been directing movies and TV shows for THIRTY YEARS.
20:35 take it up with Lil Romeo, he's the one that said "Super Hero Static Shock (woowoo)"
SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T WATCHED ALL THE VID YET

Was NOT expecting him to mention MCR, but it was a pleasant surprise :)
Oh yeah I'm a fan of them lol
@@MrNostalgia awesome!! They're my favorite band!! :))
If I had a nickel for everytime a youtube video that released this week mention or discussed “The Mighty Bee” I’d have two nickels which isn’t alot but weird that it happened twice.
“that’s why u get free lunch.. (and run)” IS CRAZY 😭😭😭🤚🤚
you threw me BACK with our friend Martin I thought that was a fever dream 😭😭 I don’t rem a lot about the movie but I do rem going to school after it came out and everyone was singing push it to the limit and everyone tried double dutching in PE after that. it’s a dcom that was iconic during its time.
This movie had so many clichés I swear and Disney keeps repeating the same nonsense even with new stuff. There was good potential but at the same time there's a lot that could've been written out, like certain characters, there was no need for romance or random subplots, the "bullying"... but that's Disney for you 🤦🏾♀️they don't ever learn
That Sportacus joke got me though 😆😆 I was thinking the same thing
Massive W for reminding everyone the character's name is just Static
18:59 is a real expectation of what would actually happen 😭😭
I'm just now realizing how similar this is to Roll Bounce.
Keep up the good work with these vids Mr. Nostalgia. Love your choice of topics!
We should talk about Selena Gomez and drew seeley she was like 15 and he’s was 26 in another Cinderella story
NOT RUGRATS IN PARIS 😭
I completely forgot about how Izzy tried to do a "your mama" joke on his friend...I know I can't talk but damn I would have done a better job at doing it.
but yeah, I liked the movie when it first aired...although it says something if my dad loved the movie more than kid me. I'm being for real, whenever we would go to a store he would tell me to look for it on DVD till we finally found it, even till this day he still want to watch it at random moments.
Cult classics rock!
On the same day _Jump In!_ first aired, The Nick attempted to counter it by premiering a new series of its own, _Just Jordan,_ which was a dramedy with a plot quite similar to the Disney Channel movie. Needless to say, _Just Jordan_ ultimately lost the ratings battle that night.
You had me CACKLING when you roasted his yo mama joke. I love your videos, especially the cutaways for commentary
I was so obsessed with this movie in my childhood that I even brought the movie the and the movie soundtrack
I wanted to let you know i really appreciate the editing it like you're watching a Disney channel movie with like the breaks and stuff. I really liked it because it made me feel nostalgic 🥰
I love that My Chemical Romance joke. A great video for a nostalgic movie. I also love that Family Matters reference, too. You're golden! Thank you 🫶🏾
one thing that really set this movie apart from so many other dcoms is that instead of making rodney a typical one-dimensional bully character, they gave him depth and a legitimate character arc
Love the video, one of the GOATs of the DCOMs. I rewatched it last year and it holds up a little.
Among other things, I'm loving how you're using OG commercial break in and outs through these video essays- awesome stuff man
Btw…she was 12 he was 16 at that point in the movie💀
At the very least, both were minors at the time. But it’s still really weird to cast your movie’s couple as a 17 year old and a 12 going on 13 year old.
The creation of this video just made you my favorite UA-cam channel ever.
This movie is just so freaking good! When I finished my first semester of college, I watched Jump In! to see if it still held up... and man it's so good. The characters, the vibes, the soundtrack... man this film just makes me smile so hard.
I'm glad this film isn't forgotten.
This was my favourite movie as a Latina when I was a kid. Iconic. Best Disney soundtrack if you ask me. Also, I had one of those toothbrushes that played music and it played Push It To The Limit. I would click it sometimes just to hear the song.
I love ur videos and I love the editing Keep up the good work! (Also the fact that one of the guidelines for ur channel is “no zeke and luther slander” will never not be funny to me) :)
I just sang that song Thursday at work it was funny lol
I always liked this movie; thanks for giving us a good retrospective on it like with your other videos.
I remember watching this film a while ago, great film loved it, amazing review
The “dancing crazy” instrumental definitely doing it fa me 😭😭😭💕
The psych reference was everything I could’ve asked for
That MB song at the end…..Subscribed!
Wait I didn't even think about the similarities to the high school musical plot
I love watching your videos when I’m high asf I love your editing
i remember i had my grandfather record this movie for me on VHS & i watched it over & over for YEARS. sooo good
23:30 love a Psych reference
18:58 was too much. Lol
I love it
first video in & i love dis channel already🙏🏾
This was a good movie in my opinion. One of the best Disney origanls.
Great video!
"Sportacus" 😂😂 I screamed akcjavd
Ive never watched the movie but the song lives rent free in my head since hearing the commercials as a kid
Great vid. I also thought push it was a part of HSM lmfao. This brought back great mems
“Go watch rugrats in Paris” oh my god 😭
This my favorite keke movie to this day. Runaway love is a close second
All imma say is giving up a career in boxing to jump rope is wild if bro won golden gloves he would've been guarantied a boxing career
yes! it's out!! omg!! can't wait to watch it!!!!
What if Jump in was a HSM spin off like what they did with Ashely Tisdel's character
It’s called pop up edition? When did Disney channel start using “what’s what edition”?
One thing I love about this movi is the fact that Chanté (Yolanda?) and Damien (Chuck) from degrassi are in this.
Never noticed all the degrassi characters lol
I described the plot to my father who said it was nearly identical to one other movie where a father wants his son to become a boxer while the son wants to do ballet..!
Great video
Who else learned how to double dutch after watching this movie
i’m ngl when rodney posted all the pictures, the only thing izzy needed to do was post the pictures of him knocking him out 😭😭
This just high school musical but with jumping instead of singing
Except the execution is a little more mature and in my opinion better. Not saying HSM didn't do a good job with it but it was just better in Jump In
