- PrankStars was a short lived prank show on Disney Channel, that only lasted a mere 6 episodes. Despite its star studded cast, it rarely seems to get talked about nowadays. Today I decided to look back at the series to see not only if it still holds up, but if it was even real to begin with.

As a kid, I thought that this show was awesome, But now looking at it now as a adult. This show was trash.
Honestly I cringe now as an adult watching it 😅. I know they were trying to do something with Mitchell but I think he collapsed under the pressure

China was a regular character on House of Payne, appeared on wizards and hannah montana before ant farm and has other acting credits. I definitely knew china before disney so it’s not really that far fetched

If the China Anne McClain episode was fake, it would've made more sense having Zendaya since Shake it Up was all about dancing and it started in 2010, but her episode was about a Pirate restaurant apparently.

I remember when Mitchell Musso left Pair of Kings due to a DUI and I said “why is Luther from Zeke and Luther in this show, where’s Musso?”
There was an episode of A.N.T. Farm where Zendaya played a girl named Sequoia, who tried to take over Chyna's life. Either that was an intentional reference that, like, two people were gonna get, or Disney is just really uncreative with names.
The China Anne stan probably liked her from the tv show “House of Payne” the movie “Daddy’s little girls” she was also on Disney before Ant farm. She was on “JONAS” for couple of episodes and guest starred on “Hannah Montana” and “Wizards of Waverly Place” and like u said “grown ups” 1&2 but she had some roles before she landed ant farm. She was “black famous” for black girls lol and also those 7 episodes prob got her hooked lmaooo
You know what’s weird, Disney Channel basically retooled the same type of prank show less the a year later with Code:9, which lasted one more episode than Prankstars, as if removing Musso and the Disney stars would make it more marketable
As if that wasn’t weird they rebooted the show again, in the form of “walk the prank”, a sitcom series with real life hidden camera gags
China was a regular on Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and was in his movie Daddy’s Little Girls. Even back in the day House of Payne was constantly on TBS and I don’t think it would have been far fetched for Sequoia to have seen the movie.

She also guest starred on Jonas LA and Wizards of Waverley Place. She did quite a bit before ANT Farm.

I mean before Disney Channel China was a regular on the Tyler Perry show House of Payne, I know this because I used to watch it and this was way before Ant Farm. Also she had a role in a Tyler Perry movie Daddy's Little Girls with Idris Elba. So its not really that hard to believe Sequoia would have known who she was.

I think Mitchell Musso was the closest thing to a cool guy Disney Channel had access to at the time, so they put him in everything 😅.
Prankstars was the show that had me going "am I getting too old for Disney?" Even from the first episode, my elementary school brain suspected it was fake because I was like: how does this Selena Gomez fan not know it's her?? It's so obvious?? I was so disappointed that the show was boring AND fake

China was black household famous. She was in 2 Tyler Perry projects + multiple disney show appearances soooo.
Does anyone else remember Snapped? It was a spiritual successor to Prankstars, though it only ever had a pilot. It was hosted by Brandon Mychal Smith and Doug Brochu (Nico and Grady from Sonny With a Chance/So Random), and the premise was a professional hypnotist was brought in to prank people by hypnotizing them. If you know anything about hypnosis, then it was even more obviously fake than Prankstars, because it was entirely based around hypnotizing people against their will, which is impossible.
I genuinely love just how all these pranks are just Disney sitcom plots

I remember this show but absolutely did not remember Adam Hicks on it, my brain completely erased this episode from existence, I feel like it's something I should remember since I used to crush on both at the time.
I miss Yogos man! If Cereal Straws came back I'm sure they can! And I do remember PrankStars.
Watching these videos makes me realize how hard the guy actors worked, and they didn’t get nearly as much credit. Granted, in Mitchel’s case, and in the cases of some others, legal issues played a role in tarnishing their image. But considering some of their biggest stars (Miley, Selena, and Demi) all have scandals of various severity in their pasts, it’s kind of odd. And while there are some examples of guy Disney stars who beat this statistic, like Dylan and Cole, and a few girls who fell off a bit through no fault of their own (Christy Carlson Romano, Chelsea Kane), it’s wild to me that someone like Jason Dolley was *everywhere* on Disney, and while he’s still working, he didn’t become a massive star after leaving the network.
Weren't the girl stars' various "scandals" all pretty much after they'd left Disney behind them anyway - and when they were of legal age to be smoking pot or whatever?
@@FrenkTheJoy Miley had numerous scandals while with Disney, like the Vanity Fair photo shoot (which she has since recanted her apology for), a couple nude photo leaks, and I’m pretty sure the leak of her smoking salvia was while she was still with Disney (albeit toward the end). Demi made a personal decision to leave after completing rehab the first time, following being sent there after punching a dancer while on the Camp Rock tour…so she was very much still affiliated with Disney too. Selena was the only one who stayed pretty clean-cut for the most part for a while after…depending on what you classify as a scandal anyway. And judging by the way they treated both the Vanessa Hudgens and Adrienne Bailon leaks, being “of legal age” wasn’t relevant…it was how expendable you and your brand were. Vanessa was still in the thick of HSM success, so they couldn’t easily get rid of her, but Adrienne’s run with the Cheetah Girls seemed like it was coming to an end (and there’s rumors she even leaked her own photos to expedite the process). My guess is, while Miley was considered essential as she carried Hannah on her back, Mitchel, for all the work he did on Disney, was never really important enough, even as a lead role on his own show, Pair of Kings, although he was able to keep his voice role in Phineas and Ferb for some inexplicable reason.

Even as a stupid kid who believed anything growing up, I could tell this show was fake. Really says a lot of the quality of this show.
They made it probably after the popularity of Prank'd. But since it's a kids network they wanted to control what happened. That's my guess
I thought I was the only one who remembered this show! As a kid, I realized it was fake when l saw the Adam Hicks kid on Kids React and his personality was totally different. It was confusing to me because I was so young I didn’t realize these shows could be fake but I wondered if he’s an actor and now I finally know for sure. 😭

I used to watch PrankStars quite a bit when I was younger. I never realized how fake it was until I watched this video 😂 all of the episodes of PrankStars are available to watch here on UA-cam. There was another prank show that Disney Channel made about a year after they made PrankStars called Code: 9. Code: 9 was similar to PrankStars but it was kids pranking their parents instead of Disney stars pranking their biggest fans. I think Code: 9 is actually talked about even less than PrankStars. The episodes of Code: 9 unfortunately aren’t available to watch anywhere. I think Code: 9 was more real than PrankStars was. Disney Channel actually acknowledged Code: 9 last year. They put a little clip from Code: 9 on the Disney Channel UA-cam channel to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Code: 9. Maybe you could make a video about Code: 9. I would like to see that 👍

Man, this show was a fever dream lol. I remember when this came out, I thought it was odd for Disney to air something like that and it was so painfully obvious that it was fake, at least for me. Maybe I was just a bit too old for it.

The whole show was fake though, lol. But if it was real and she was a China fan because of her Tyler Perry stuff, then Disney probably would've chosen someone else since House Of Payne isn't a Disney channel thing.
5:41 China was a main character in Tyler Perry's House of Payne a few years prior to Ant Farm so maybe that's why? (Doc Shaw was also on that show as the sister to China's character.)
China does dance in Descendants but of course it would be way later in her career for Sequoia to know at the time

Love the video, gotta correct something though. China Anne Mcclain had a career before A.N.T. Farm. She was in a sitcom that had been running for 4 years that was popular amongst the Black community called House of Payne where she was a series regular and Doc Shaw, who was Marcus on Suite Life on Deck played her big brother. The show was created and written by Tyler Perry. China was also a featured actress in a Tyler Perry movie in 2007 with her two older sisters called Daddy’s Little Girls, they were the “little girls”. I really only know this because i grew up watching that movie and show, so I knew of China Anne Mcclain and Doc Shaw for years before they were on Disney.
I knew China had a career before Disney.
The point is though, the show is about kids and their favorite *Disney* stars. If this was real and Sakoiya actually was a fan of China because of her House Of Payne work, they wouldn't have let her on the show because that's not Disney.
This just brought back so many memories. I remember watching this show before a storm happening in like 2nd grade. I remember watching only like 3 episodes.
I was so obsessed with this as an 8 year old I started wearing Hannah Montana merch EVERYWHERE hoping I'd get picked 😅 (this went on for a year along with me constantly dropping hints that I'd be a good fit Incase a hidden agent was nearby)
China did enough side character work for this girl to have a gay crush on her at the time
Out of all the Disney Channel prank shows the one that stood out to me was Snap. It was about getting their parent hypnotized by a hypnotist and the show was hosted by Doug Brochu and Brandon Mychal Smith, you can probably guess why the show stood out to me
I guess I'm just happy that for a prank show, it wasn't mean, just boring and stupid? Like having the prank be that you're testing out a new game show with an actual actress and the casting director isn't making her do stupid things is a lot better than if the prank was that in order to win the role on a new show, she had to walk blindfolded through a sea of electrified chainsaw-wielding clowns - you guess if I meant the chainsaws or the clowns were electrified - and after instilling that lifelong trauma they reveal it was a prank and the show she though she was auditioning for wasn't even real.
I just want to take a moment to praise your intro. The quiet music with the TV zoom is just such a nice, chill vibe that suits you!

yes but it's a disney show about kids being fans of Disney stars for their work on the Disney channel. They were never gonna acknowledge her previous work in the show. Sakoiya was written to be a fan of her Disney stuff.

Someone mentioned Code 9 but they tried the prank thing again with Walk the Prank which was a weird hybrid sitcom thing. It was also not good but last long enough and was reran all the time when it was on.

Disney Channel also did a prank show called Code 9. It was basically kids pranking their parents

This was the one show I pretended I liked just because I felt like it was edgy. The main reason is that Disney let the phrase "Oh my God" be on air without being censored. I remember they would always censor movies that would say "Oh my God" and then they didn't on this show and I thought that it mean this was a cool show 😂
