One of my absolute favourite guitar pedals is the DigiTech FreqOut natural feedback creator. Here's how you can combine it with a sustainer - such as TC Electronic's Aeon - to produce ambient synth/theremin tones, as heard on my track No Such Thing As Goodbye.
Maebe is the musical alias of Michael Astley-Brown, playing host to compositions that slip through the cracks of post-, math- and prog-rock.

Gear used:
Fernandes JG-40
Yamaha THR100H
DigiTech FreqOut
TC Electronic Aeon
Korg Nu:Tekt Overdrive
Sinvertek Drive N5
Boss DD-500 Digital Delay
Electro-Harmonix Oceans 11 Reverb
That final version dounds absolutely stunning 👏
Thank you ❤️
got the freqout specifically because of this video - really cool
That is so freaking rad 🖤 Thanks so much - hope you're digging it!
Very interesting
Thank you!
Nice sounds. Just bought one and looking forward to experimenting.
Thanks so much - hope you dig!
Wonderful video, I really appreciate gear vids for ambient guitarists! I saw the SuperEgo+ in the background in a few shots and really hoped you'd talk about using it with the FreqOut -- any thoughts? Really curious about this kind of combination!
Thanks! Ya know what, I've never combined those two. But I imagine the sonic results would be pretty cool, come to think of it...
Inspiring! Thanks!
Thank you! Glad you dug it 🙏
Maebe I'll buy both of those. 😃
It kinda has a cool Flute sounding effect. Nice
How would the FreqOut work best going into an Effects Processor? FreqOut into the Effects Processor input or plugged into the FX Loop? Thanks
Treat it like a pitch-shifter, so run it before your overdrives and distortions!
Can you play Star Trek theme ?
I've never learned it, but maybe I should, ha - reckon this could nail the tone!
Poor mans Miku pedal
I am pleased with that assessment
+slide?
I didn't use one here, but you could definitely add a slide, too!
how does it work on chords/polyphonic stuff
It tracks great since its pitch-shifting is based on the Whammy V, but it can only really generate feedback based on one note in the chord (kinda like real feedback). It's awesome fun, though
@@Maebe thank you
Thanks for the video and a question on if the pitch shifting can only generate feedback based on one note in a chord (lets say hypothetically C Major Triad where the 3 notes are C-E-G) would it be possible to record the other two notes in the chord (the note e and g on separate recordings) and then layer/sync them on different tracks in the daw? @@Maebe
@@ksantecombos7348 It's been a little while since I messed with this, but I think the feedbacked note is potentially different each time, depending on the dominant overtone in the chord… What you could do is record the chord without the FreqOut, then record the C, E and G notes individually on separate tracks, so you'd have four tracks total you could layer up - that would be the easiest way of doing it!
How is this on fast vibratos?
It's great, man - I've had no problems with tracking anything I can throw at it!
the girls love it ;)
Is it necessary to get the sustainer to have the pedal continuously drone?
