  • Hey friends! This DIY aged vessel was an incredible thrift flip and so simple and easy. I have been so inspired by the trash to treasure idea lately and thought it was the perfect vase to use for a faux pottery project. Because of using a hair dryer to speed up drying time, I was able to complete this project in just a couple hours.
    Supplies Needed for this Project
    Vessel or vase
    Joint compound
    Flat spray paint (color of your choice)
    Matte paints (colors of your choice)
    Damp paper towel
    You can choose to rub some dirt over it at the end like I did if you want to.
    Any questions on this project, ask me in the comments section!

    I have watched several of your videos and the wet paper towel method was a game changer for me. It is very nerve wracking at first because when adding colors on top of the other colors you think what have I done lol. But thanks so much cuz it really helped me

  • @cchemmes-seeseeart3948
    @cchemmes-seeseeart3948 7 місяців тому

    Interesting. What materials are the joint compound & paints made of? I would think that would make a huge difference, for the psi compressive strength & adherence. I think some mixes could be good/ some bad, depending on composition of the materials.

    Is matte paint chalk paint? I love this.

    • @thisgirlathome
      @thisgirlathome  2 роки тому +1

      Matte is just the finish of the paint. Like satin, eggshell, and gloss are all finishes. This is just spray paint, not chalk paint. Flat spray paint is often a cheaper alternative, but if you have chalk paint, you could use that too! 🖤🖤

      I would think so, although I’ve never used it for this project. I would say just make sure you prep the pieces well and make sure you put down a base coat to give it something to adhere well too.

    • @thisgirlathome
      @thisgirlathome  2 роки тому +1

  • @Gendisn80

    What colors were you using other than the black? Where did you buy the Stems?

    • @thisgirlathome
      @thisgirlathome  2 роки тому +2

      I used a very lift tan color (almost like a clay), a deep green, and two browns. I would definitely say choose earthy tones for your project and make sure you choose all paints in a matte or flat finish. Shiny paint won’t make this look authentic. The stems are just some dried eucalyptus I had one hand. Good luck and have fun with your project!! 🖤

    how did you prevent the spray paint from dripping?

    • @thisgirlathome
      @thisgirlathome  Рік тому +1

      Light coats! If your spray paint is dripping, you’re either spraying way too heavy in one area or too close to the vase.

    Please make sure your not destroying an expensive piece of depression glass (which I think this bowl might have been.) I mentioned it a little too late I guess. What a shame☹️

    • @thisgirlathome
      @thisgirlathome  2 роки тому +4

      No worries, this vase didn’t have any of the indications I have been taught to look for to distinguish authenticity. At best, my guess is this would be a reproduction, not authentic depression glass. ☺️
