I always used yard sand, cheap acrylic paint, and school glue in equal amounts. Alternatively, joint compound straight out of the jar works just fine, especially if you want a cleaner look. The original, and strongest method is cement and exterior paint.
Loved your video on this. I watch all of them on this subject and you presented yours so well by getting right to the subject without a lot of chit chat about nothing and showing how the same thing can be accomplished using different elements. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Hi. I really like your video. I also really like your presentation. You are low-key, not fake (or squeaky happy), and actually calming to watch. I look forward to seeing more of your creative, refreshing work. Thank you 😊
Your vases came out beautiful, however I think you should try some dried grasses you need foliage that is spilling out and that will really compliment and set off your beautiful vases.
Hi there I bought that exact vase from thrift store I only found one. I used the same method to paint however I don’t think I used as much baking soda as you did. Also I did not use the dark wax. When I get the vase out of storage for fall I think I will try the dark wax. Your vases are lovely
Whoa 😮I think YOUR idea was so much better than dirt, coffee & etc the wax was the best idea, hope ur able to do more, I subscribe to ur channel for every update.. Thanx so much...
@@TheMjstranger I didn't paint the inside of mine, so I can wash the glass out just fine by hand. For the outside, I try to be much more careful and just spot clean!
Hi ! I am new to your channel, but I am so glad I have finally clicked on. I watched another DIY video on another UA-cam site, and what a mess I had on my hands due to trying to put sheetrock mud on a vase without primimng it first since they forget to mention that. Well, to make a long story short, I knew there had to be an easier way to create the same effects without all that mess and headaches. That is when I started searching and found you. Thanks for taking the time to show us a much eaasier way. Also, I have bought a ton of chalk wax that I have since decided I don't like using as a final step when refininshing so now I have another use for it..
@@KatharticStudios I just did mine following your method with a large scale table lamp I git yesterday at Salvation Army & it came out AMAZING. I wish I could show you because I'm resourceful, but NOT a craft person & I'm blown away. Can't thank you enough! I am telling you in all honesty it looks. like I got it at Pottery Barn or Mcgee & co.
I love how your vases came out but the flowers definitely DEtract from the beauty of them. Or maybe cheapen the look. In any case I’m looking forward to seeing all the fun DIYs you have coming up.
@@KatharticStudios Agree, but still need something in them. I always think empty vases on top of fireplace ends up looking like Urns with your parents ashes.

What paint can I use? Flat, semi gloss, gloss. I have lots of paints and want to know what kind of paint should I use. Only flat, perhaps? What should I use on vases...
I believe the paint I used was eggshell. It would be interesting to try different sheens! Now that I think about it though, the grittiness of the baking soda might dull them all down to flat anyway 🤔
I used wet and dry coffee grounds on one vase and got 2 different effects - it's one of my favourite vases! I have given most of my creations away but kept that one! Good luck! 👍
He vistovsu trabajo y me ha chiflado mucho. Me gustaria saber q es lo q mezcla. Pintura a la tiza y puede ser,sal o bicarbonato? En q proporción. Un beso desde España, un pueblecito San Medel.😘😘
My vases are not "handled" at all so the risk of chips, dings, or wear is really low. If I were painting something I plan to touch more, a primer would be better, especially one designed for adhering to glass. But for this it didn't seem necessary.
Good idea! I haven't had any issues so far, but I suppose a primer never hurt! I like BIN Shellac. You could probably also scuff sand the glass to create more grip. Priming also sounds like a good idea if you plan to handle the vase more frequently.
@@KatharticStudios if you use DIY paint you don't need primer in order for it to stick or not peel. It is porcelain clay based and it is thick, goes on smoothly and dries beautifully. You can also add ingredients like the baking soda etc for the texture with no problem. Vases look great!
Good question! I have not washed mine but I would say definitely no dish washer and I wouldn't submerge it in the sink. I think spot cleaning the outside with a damp rag would work just fine. And then the inside is just glass, so if you had a bouquet of real flowers and needed to rinse/swish soapy water around after, that should be no problem.

Thanks for the good ideas! I'd love to try joint compound as a German smear type of look.
Jen Dubay- you’re right, garden dirt works soooo much better than coffee, cocoa or cinnamon.
Isn't exterior paint toxic for inside projects?

Beautiful, they really have that stone look.
I love your technique I've seen a lot of techniques but I like you. It's better i'm liking what you did with the brown wax
Thank you! 🥰
Beautiful effect. I will use it to update old lamps. Thank you
Great idea to do some lamps!
Hi watching from Australia.......I do EXACTLY the same with wax, and I add colour to the wax on my pots. They cone out really well.

Flower girl- I agree 100%. The fake flowers don’t do the vases justice but taller dried grasses or even eucalyptus would look much better.
Me and my Molly Brown love doing stuff like this

Such great ideas for the final coat. Thanks.👏👏👏👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🥰🥰🥰
Great video. Going to try this on some wooden hollow forms.
NICE! Thank you. Since you didn't coat the inside all the way down, you could put water and cut flowers in them also.
Exactly!!
Love it.Keep them coming ❤
Your stone-look turned out very nicely!! I painted a jar today and so I'm wondering if I should put dark wax on them or not. This was a helpful vid!

Absolutely beautiful! Do you have to apply top varnish? Great DIY!
Thank you! I did not apply anything as I don't really touch these (hence they don't need protection) and I wanted to keep the finish shine-free.
Ive had a vision in my head for a while, for a vase very similar to this shape using a stone finish look combined with some color. Ironic

use the coffee grounds right after you brew your coffee. grounds need to be wet.
Guess I didn't get the memo about the grounds being wet! I'll have to retry some time, though I do really like the wax effect.
