Who in their right mind would pay the prices at Anthropology, Restoration Hardware, etc. when David shows us just how easy it is to hack those expensive vases! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Que tipo de pinturas usas?
Hehehe 😂 thank youuu ! Glad you enjoyed these
People with too much money and no craft supplies.😃
Or people who have more $ than sense.
I have some friends shop in those stores. However, one friend worked part time at Willams and Sonoma before our local store closed just to get the discount. The parents of my son’s best friend just bought a $2+million dollar house. His grandparents just built a $2+million dollar house. I’m obviously not in that tax bracket!😊
Your recreations are among the top two best I've seen anywhere on UA-cam. And I love your explanations about the horizontal lines, etc. Absolutely stunning, everything! Thank you!
I went into pottery barn yesterday the vase cost 149.00😳I was sayin* this is ridiculous I will make my own
I feel this deep in my soul. Who is gonna pay those insane prices!? I mean unless your rich and throw money away sure but most of us - no way! DIY is the way
You are definitely the vase king. You flip vases into gorgeous creations and I always want them. Thank you so much for joining us on the trip. I can't wait to see what you do in May!
Thank you 🙏 I appreciate that! I feel like I always flip vases but I can’t help it lol 😂 hopefully I’ll have something new in mind in May
What a fabulous way to make use of old vases that may otherwise be discarded. Cant wait to try this thank you
Thanks for seeing that way 🥰 I can’t agree more! I typically keep items I would normally get rid of so I can “upgrade” or give them a make over. Always fun to reimagine something
David first time watching, and the results were amazing, your techniques seemed easy to follow and gave hope to all of us. Thank you. 🥰🇬🇧🐾🐾💖
@@shunawestern9153 awesome thank you 😊 hope you got to try it out sorry took me so long to reply to your comment
This is an EXCELLENT tutorial! Easy to listen to, no maddening music in the background and tips along the way. And I like that David shows us three vases with different techniques, two with paint & the last one with joint compound. I’m sooo going to check out his other videos to see if I need to subscribe! Thanks so much for sharing with us. I really want to try to do over vases but I have yet to find any I like. I like all three of David’s. ☺️☺️☺️👏👏👏👏👏👏👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
David, you are the master of vase makeovers! You have turned some pitiful looking vessels into works of art!
Thank so much Brandy!!! Loved creating these ones, they look authentic
I've been watching so many pot makeovers and this one is by far my favorite! Good job and thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much!!!! 😊 seriously made my day today by your lovely comment !
Best tutorial on how to do this! I’ve watched a ton. What I like is that you really show us the technique step by step and love that you zoomed in for us to see what you’re doing and how it looks. ❤ you’re based looked Amazing!
Aw thank you so so so much!!!! I appreciate your comment
This changed the entire look, love the earthy tones.
Thank you! Exactly what I wanted was earthy tones! Love it
Oh my, they are all gorgeous. Can’t believe they are the same vases. Thanks for sharing.
I know right!?!? Kind of crazy 😜
They are all beautiful but the first is my favorite.
Thanks so much! I am glad you liked that one it’s so interesting
Baking soda and joint compound… you just solved two issues i was having… subbing for more!
Ofcourse AND THANK YOU!!! if you haven’t already check out my latest vase makeover here ua-cam.com/video/gP4MLCtm2w0/v-deo.html
watched this for the second time... mean...its a fine artistic Grunge style
Thank you!!! Yes absolutely can be grunge 😂 I just love how they look like a real authentic aged vessel like we found it buried in a tomb 😂
Love what you’ve done with these vases.
I’ve done several myself - love doing them and seeing the transformation and costs a fraction compared to shop bought ones. When using joint compound try using those ‘one use’ throw away gloves (in fact you only need one!) better for your hands and cuts back on wiping all the mess off.
I normally do use gloves 😂 but this video I was rushing to get through my projects for the thrift flip collab lol but I agree those gloves are nice to use for a messy project like this!!! Thanks for watching !!!
If you don’t have Matt acrylic paint you can get a Matt clear spray to seal the piece and it will fix the shine from the paints.
Yes thank you for saying that! It does help others ❤❤❤
Thanks David! You just taught me how I can take a glazed ceramic piece and give it a vintage look. I have some Target bunnies that I’m going to antique!!!
Oh my gosh I love this! They are gonna turn out so beyond cute! I wanna try a bunny now that you said this!!!! Let me know how they turn out
They all are beautiful but the one with handles looks stunning, the colors are perfect on that piece. I would have never known to use joint compound to make such lovely pieces, thank you
Thanks for watching! I appreciate you! I’m glad you found this helpful. I am always weary of painting these thrifted vases bc everyone gets mad at me for ruining an old piece 😂 but I love this vase even more now - that handled one is probably my favorite as well
Well done! My favorite is the second one with the handles, but all of these look very legit!
Thank you 🙏🏼 very fun to make too
Incredible.....my fav though is the second one (with handles)!!!!!!
Thanks Linda! (Me too!!) I’m so glad I went with a chocolate brown tone it just gives me all the vintage vibes I look for when I look at these pots at the antique stores lol
Realmente Precioso. Me encanta. Lo voy hacer pero jamás me quedaría igual. Gracias por compartir 😍😍😍
So glad you are going to try it out! Have fun with it that’s the most important part! Pouring your love into it is what makes it beautiful in the end. Thanks for watching
these look so good! i just thrifted two vases for less than $18! I almost went and bought one new and i’m so glad i didnt. def going to try this!!
Oh good to hear that you will be trying this out! Such a fun way to reuse items instead of buying new all the time. Even if you get tired of this, keep your thrifted vases and redo them 🥰 happy crafting
This is a great tutorial!!! Ty so much for being incredibly thorough with it! Going to def create some pieces using your tips and tricks! 👏👏😁 Can’t decide which one I like the best I like them all!!!! ❤
Try them all out! I become obsessed with doing these techniques and intertwining mixing them and I’ve made so many different variations at this point it’s so fun to imagine this old piece of pottery and you are just using paint to do this! Thanks for your support
Ty I’m excited to try them! 😁
gorgeous! i cant spray paint but i can paint the black primer on..Im only one vase in but gorgeous! thanks the share!❤
Yay! 😀 so exciting to do this project !! Best of luck and I hope they turn out amazing!!!
OH!!! How wonderful. I can watch / learn from you all day. Thanks very much.
Awww thank you for watching!! Welcome to the chaos
Love the one with handles
Thank you thank you 🙏
You certainly have done such an amazing job on your pieces, they are truly beautiful. Thanks for sharing with us 🥰
Thanks so much 🤩 I can’t wait to make More honestly lol I think about vases like all day everyday Hahaha
Just came across your video, I’m amazed at what you’ve achieved. Been looking at some vessels as decorative pieces here in France and they’re really expensive. Might just have a go at this next time I’m in a brocante or vide-greniers.
I’m amazed the fact someone from France is watching my video ! 😅 thank you so much!!! I never thought this video would start taking off the way it has! I’m glad to share all my tips and tricks as just creating something always seems to make me happy in the end, knowing that I put my hard work into something- even if I upcycled an old vase in this case, not everybody has the budget to go pay for pottery studio classes and create a vase so this is a perfect example of an alternative way to get the same look for a lot less money! I probably spent $4 on each vase and the paint was already in my craft stash but easily say another $3 add on with brushes and paint - that’s also going to last me many more future projects. I can’t wait to get back into UA-cam and sharing more amazing ideas I have in my brain.
I really like how you let the one get piled up on their little bit and have some sick spots on it I really like that I've got a luminum
Nice look and nice application! Thanks for sharing your 🎨 artistic talent 👍
@@Leolioness44 thank you so much 😊 it was so fun creating these
You’re a pro at this, last one is my favorite. Wow!!
Thank you, I can now say I'm a pro since I've done over 50 different versions now lol 😆 yay!!! That's actually exciting that I have learned so much and so many techniques to achieve an aged look using paint!
@@DavidOwenCreates me too. I love vases and doing my own thing on them. But I do have some vases that are not to be touched because they are perfect the way they are. I would just ruin them. 😆
I’m a new subscriber so I have not seen all your videos yet but I’m sure I’ll like them all.
This is amazing, your dupes are spot on, plus you get bragging rights!!!
Haha bragging rights? What do you mean
Love these pots so beautiful I am going looking for some pots
Yay!!!! 😀 have fun with this - my favorite thing to do it’s so relaxing

Hi David 💓 beautifully done I can't tell the difference between the new and old always love Laura
Hahah that’s awesome! Thanks Laura
Thank you for this video. I’ve watched a lot of aged vase diy videos and yours by far is the best. Your technique and the way you explain the process is so helpful and amazing!!! 🤩 Great job 👏🏾
Thank you so kindly for your feedback !!! That does help me out so happy you could understand my thought process! Sometimes I have a hard time communicating what I want to say
Girl you did that yesss!
One man’s junk is another artistic’s DIY Treasures I agree these prices are way gi much in them stores 🎉🎉🎉
They be tryin to charge us a car payment for 1 vase lol 😂 like girl bye ✌️ we will do it ourselves! I think I should make a compilation video of several different ideas on making “expensive” items for the cheap and decorate your home to look just as nice as the designers do for the big bucks. Everyone loves a good dupe

Thank you so much!!! 😊
You did a fabulous job on these projects. WOW!!! GREAT inspo! And also - why on earth don't you wear gloves while you are working? LOL! Thank you, David.
Thank you so much 💓 appreciate your comment. OH to answer the glove question- I prefer to get dirty, it's apart of the process for me as an artist. I'm this way wirh everything I create 😆
Super j'adore 👍👍👍
Yay 😀
Oh David, I really loved how these turned out! And I love how you explained the different techniques and how you got those results. Thank you so much for sharing! I did learn something new too ♥♥

You nailed it! I’m getting ready to do my own vase dupe and I learned a lot. ❤
Yayyyy I’m excited for you!!! Definitely have fun with it
By far the best I’ve seen! Great Job!!
Thank you so much!!!!!
Awesome job and great eye!
Thank you!
They were beautiful to begin with and you made them marvelous. I'd be sure to make sure they aren't worth anything before working
Thanks for your comment. I did make sure as this has happened in the past before. These pieces are worth more after I touched them lol. Also, if you use a spray paint as a primer first you can easily remove any paint from the ceramic. I’ve removed and redone before - should I make a video explaining this process?
@@DavidOwenCreates yes all your videos are lovely and helpful thank you for responding
Best video I’ve seen and I have watched so many
Aw thank you! That means a lot to me ❤️
Omg just found your channel and I'm hooked.I had gone off doing crafts but I'm so inspired by your fine craft I will be getting out my supplies and going for it. Thank you David from Wales
Oh my gosh so cool your from wales !! I’m honored! I so happy you liked my video and channel. Thanks for popping in
Stunning flips, David! Awesome!!😃💛
Thank you so much!!! 🤩
Gorgeous ❤
These are super lovely!!! Thanks for sharing the techniques!!!
I wonder if these techniques can be used on plastic planters, and placed in the outdoors?
Thank you very much I have used these on glass and plastic, I will say the plastic planters it’ll eventually fall off if it’s in rain or snow weather even extreme heat it won’t stand the test of time. You could totally spray a clear coat and try it out for a season though but that is my overall thoughts as I’ve left pots outside that I’ve done like this and that all scraped off sadly
just found your channel and I'm so glad I did. Your vases turned out stunning!
Thanks so so much! I’m glad you like them. I have other vase tutorials on my channel that I think are just as amazing 🤩 thanks for your support!!
I love what you did beautiful
Thank you
Hey David ❤❤❤I’m so glad you did this bc I was at a garage sale today and bought some flowers bc I needed those colors. And the vases came with it❤❤❤bc I’m limited on space I was going to throw them away but not now ❤❤❤tfs❤❤❤
Oh no LOL 😂 I don’t wanna be the reason you keep them haha 😂 well I wanna see if transform them how they turn out! Send me a photo DM it on Instagram
Beautiful!!!
Thank you!!
I just subscribed to your channel and love what you did with those vases. I think they are great.
Thanks so much Maria! I have so many of these types of vase videos. I wanted to master different techniques to age a vase to give that antique look but not having to source one and pay a pretty penny. Though I will admit there is nothing like the real deal but these are fun to mimic the look
The brown one looks amazing!!!! The last vase in the video, where are the green stems from?
Ohh thank you! Sooooo I think I got the stems from a vase that was from Target originally but I got it at some resale shop for super cheap like $3 for the vase plus all those stems so I took the stems out and put them in this one instead.
Really really awesome!
Thank you
Very talented!!!
Thank you!!!
All your vases turned out stunning, David! I also like the subtle lines with the texture technique that you did on the first and second vase and the water technique. Did you add more water into your paint or dab your sponge in the water? The vase with the handles is my favourite! I've done some vases with the spackle technique and the baking soda technique and used the Pottery Barn vases as inspiration also. I like the techniques you did on these. I recently found 2 large vases at the thrift store and I'm going to try these techniques. You did a fantastic job explaining it. It was wonderful being a part of the playlist with you again. 💖
Thank you so much I’m so glad you enjoyed this and got some inspiration to recreate the techniques! As for the water stain effect - I actually had very little tan paint with a lot of water and dipped my sponge in the tan water I am sorry I didn’t show that step! I totally had the camera aimed the vase at that moment. What’s awesome about this type of project is that you can remove all the paint and start over if need be OR add more texture to get the vase exactly how you are imagining it to look. I’ve even redone a few vases I’ve done in the past on my channel to get it them more how I imagined them to be!
@@DavidOwenCreates Thank you David! I agree, there are so many ways to recreate a vase to your liking or to get it to look like an inspiration piece like those beautiful Pottery Barn vases but I have to say, I think yours look nicer then the Pottery Barn vases.
Creating the look of Crusty Crude. I want to apply this look on the legs of a table. PS I'm a Hoosier from the Southside of indy naptown

Thank you so much for watching, liking, subscribing!! That does mean a lot to me. So happy you enjoyed this video. I have so many more fun new ideas coming but getting myself together to make these new videos for 2024 is such a chore haha. 😂 we will see what is to come.
I absolutely love those vases so pretty I love the old look I want to ask you a question I have two old iron beds I want to paint them what kind of paint do you suggest one is my great grandmother bed and I really want to make it pop I want them to look really old hugs and much love ❤️
I think those look best in black if they are not already but if you want it to look aged without actually have rust you can use a terracotta or cinnamon colored paint and add some baking soda to create fake rust if that is what your going for. As far as paint I would use a paint and primer in one to make sure it sticks - I have spray painted an iron bar that’s lasted me 3 years before the spray paint started chipping away. Just keep in mind the humidity in the room can affect that over time. I would let the paint cure for 3 days before handling the iron bed frame
Ok ty for your advice
BEAUTIFUL. IRELAND
🥰🥰🥰 thank you!
Just found your channel today. I'm a Hoosier to!!
@@janfleetwood8146 oh my gosh I’m so happy you found me, what part of Indiana are you in
Hi David. I love the different looks of those vases and the technics used. I plan to have a go at my first vase painting just need to buy the primer first...
I saw you using sponges in the process. Would they need to be artist natural sponges, or can it be any sponge? Many thanks
Hello thanks for reaching out with your concerns on this. Honestly I did use an artist sponge all torn up but you could wad up paper towel and get a similar effect so you don’t spend more money also dabbing a brush straight at the vase will help give a slight texture - paper towel will help blend your colors so it looks seamless. I hope this helps! Happy Crafting my friend
Which is better, Joint Compound or Spackle? When do you use a wet vs dry brush for painting? When do you use wet vs dry sponge?
@@CindyPhillips-z7j joint compound seems to dry harder and you can use it almost like clay and add in texture if you want to as it starts to set. I would use a mix of both dry and wet it’s more on how you want the application to look on your piece, you can achieve different textures just try it out. I would say experiment with the wet vs dry as there is no wrong or right way to do this I just show how I achieve the look
Beautiful ❤from Germany
Aww thank you so much!
Hello my dear!I am new here and I can tell that this is the best DIY I have seen !Amazing job !For the last vase(22:40) ,can you please tell me where that green stem is from ?thank you 💗
Hi there! Thanks for watching and your lovely comment!!! These vases are so fun to try out in all sorts of different textures and colors! Very earthy! You can no longer get these stems as Target did sell out of the original piece they came in, I pull them OUT of the pot they came in and put them in this instead. I also picked this faux plant originally from Target at a bargain store where they resell items, so technically it was thrifted on my part but it did come from Target. I hope that helps. You never know if Target will bring back the stems in a pot again or not so just watch out for them - and if you find a clearance pot with great stems get that and pull those stems out of the pot to create your own unique arrangement! Hope this helped
They all look amazing.
I wonder if thrifters ever check if the item they are making over is worth money as is? Could be destroying a piece of history or an item that a collector would buy, as hideous as they are.
I try my best to look at that before “destroying” the piece lol 😂 but the paint will come off if needs to be reversed
Están hermosos me encantan
Thank you!
Turned out beautiful 🤩 but a lot of work.
How do you stop the paint from becoming too lumpy, clumpy when adding baking soda?
Add more paint to thin it out - I try to aim for half n half ratio but every paint is different and could be more watered down, so adding less baking soda will help it from becoming too clumpy but if you already added way too much just add in more paint or a tiny drop of water to help thin it out
Bravo! Beautiful raku effect!
