Deep thought at 7:43-7:52: "Once you get past a certain level it just seems like it's just...You've jumped in the river and you act accordingly, or you get that convertible ride in Dallas." The "river" is an image describing the forces more powerful than oneself, in this case it's the power elite; call them whatever title you like, but they're the small group that calls the shots behind the global scenes. The "convertible ride in Dallas" refers to the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963 (for those reading that didn't know). JFK did not go along with the power elite's program (he didn't "go with the river's flow"), and was assassinated for his disobedience. Thanks for that reality check Bill.

That's not true at all, this is an entirely new arena that we havent seen before. Sure, people always got offended, but they didn't have the clout that they do know. Its well-known that special interest groups wield immense power, and that largely happened after Identity Politics invaded American Universities in the 80s and 90s. Comedy might be the same, but the ramifications and reception is now wildly different...and thats shaping comedy in every aspect.
@@98loud I did, and while I agree with it on the whole, I don't think it characterizes what is happening now, simply because of how fast information moves. In the past, if I said something taboo, I could be castigated...but I could always just uproot and move to a new location and my words wouldn't follow me. Now, I don't have that option because you cabn't outrun the internet. So if you say something "wrong" now, you could ruin your career and could have no remedy. I know this seems like a nitpicky difference, but its a big deal to not be able to outrun a problem and not get second chances. Also, in the past, the only things that were really taboo were criticisms of a monarch/king..now, we have entire ideologies that are not allowed to be critiqued. And that has never ever happened in America...maybe in Iraq or North Korea, but not the US.

@@ghostofuchiha3807 John F Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas early in his presidency.
There are many conspiracy theories about his death, such as Lee H Oswald working for the CIA, the Babushka Lady, and the Grassy Knoll. These theories point to it either being an inside job by the American government, or the Russians. Many believe that it actually was the American government, because of the way events happened that day and the days afterward, including Lee H Oswalds assassination/murder while in police custody by the owner of a Dallas nightclub who seems to have just randomly decided to kill Oswald out of nowhere.

I'll admit the internet is empowering the narcissistic diaper shitters, and they've fucked up a few people's lives over the last few years, but to abdicate responsibility for living your truth is an act of cowardice
That's not true at all, this is an entirely new arena that we havent seen before. Sure, people always got offended, but they didn't have the clout that they do know. Its well-known that special interest groups wield immense power, and that largely happened after Identity Politics invaded American Universities in the 80s and 90s. Now, I don't have that option because you cabn't outrun the internet. So if you say something "wrong" now, you could ruin your career and could have no remedy. I know this seems like a nitpicky difference, but its a big deal to not be able to outrun a problem and not get second chances.
