Breaking Civilization 5 With Culture - Civ 5 is a perfectly balanced game with no EXPLOITS

- Civilization 5 is the fantastic Turn Based Grand Strategy video game where you are tasked with leading your nation to a certain victory be it science victory, conquest victory or even an easy diplomatic victory. It can be tricky to pull off a victory especially in multiplayer however if you manage to exploit and glitch civilization V you can give yourself an unfair advantage against AI and rival Players. So naturally today The Spiffing Brit is going to be demonstrating an efficient way of destroying friendships by asking if CIV 5 is a perfectly balanced game with no exploits or if the Unlimited culture glitch could perhaps put you at an unfair advantage... I mean surely spiff owning all the social policy improvements and dominating all the science in the world is a rough demonstration of just how overpowered this glitch can be. You will be able to have nukes in civs before any other player!
So sit back and watch as the spiffing brit tests to see if Civilization 5 is a perfectly balanced game with no exploits or if the Infinite gold glitch is broken and overpowered!!!
What you have seen here today is part of a fantastic perfectly balanced series on youtube where I go from game to game and break them with wacky exploits to gain things like unlimited gold. If you enjoyed this then be sure to check out more. The style is similar to RT game and callmekevin in parts. A large influence on this series has come from Valefisk and The Killian Experience.

I didn't know Lathland watched Spif!?
Greetings Lathrix!
truly, it was only a matter of time
Lathrix!
Spiff doesn't really _play_ games so much as he ambushes them in a dark alley, strips them of their balance, pummels them to within an inch of their design principles, then rifles through their pockets for exploits.
@They Live! Again. how, exactly?
In true English fashion.

@@thespiffingbrit I love your channel, just one thing though. Did you use a mod to get that Civ? I can't find it anywhere on my game, and the leader image at 1:15 is of the Moroccan leader with the Assyrian map. I looked online too and couldn't find Madagascar on Civ 5 anywhere.
@@toddconn915 at the time stamp you posted, there is a title at the top that says lekmod V26.1 which is considered a very balanced mod of civ 5. spiff also mentions it is the lekmod at 1:08 Spiff broke the balance of this mod.

@@OperationDarkside "Excuse me? " so you don't have to waste your time on Google translate :) should of put that though lol
I hate to be that guy, but "실례합니다" is a statement, not a question, and it can't be used in the same way as "Excuse me?" in English. It's more for when you have done or are doing something that may inconvenience someone else. In this context you might say something like "뭐라고 하셨습니까?" (polite/formal, meaning "What did you say?")

His intentional mispronunciation of literally every non-english name was really f*ck*ng me up. Especially the part where we called Korea Japan. XD

Oh good I was just losing my Civ game a second ago, perfect timing!
Yeah just install a mod and then the game starts to be unbalanced XD who would of known!
@@APRCraig what does the mod do
@@jakeweeramanthri6309 He says at the start, hes using the "Lekmod".
So yeah... video is terrible as hes using a mod and everything he discusses is in the mod and not in the base game. So... not exploits with Civ, exploits with Lekmod
I'm slowly getting the feeling that the games Spiff covers aren't perfectly balanced as he always claims in the beginning
Whaaaaa? Are you insinuating he may not be British at all? He may be a Sicilian named Vizzini?
They are ALWAYS PERFECTLY BALANCED. How dare you question our Lord and saviour Spiff. Lol
Yeah, just one thing with this particular video though, Madagascar is not in the game... I have been playing for years and have all the DLC's, I even looked it up, but no Madagascar anywhere. The leader in the image is the Moroccan one with the Assyrian map at 1:15
You're starting to sound like a separatist.
@@toddconn915 Yes. Madagascar is a mod for Civ 5. It's actually surprising how many vids he has where you need mods for the exploit.

1. Start the game
2. Found a religion
3. ????
4. Prophet!
Underrated civ joke, you have my like
This is more funny that it should have been.
Hey in case anyone went looking for Madagascar in their games (like me), note that Spiff is playing with a popular mod called Lekmod and Madagascar is in that mod
How do I get this mod? I'm a noob, just installed on steam
I was excited seeing a Civ V video by The Spiffing Brit. Excitement died quickly seeing it was a mod being exploited. I still play Civ V regularly, with plenty of mods. Never heard of this one.
It works on prince! (like everything else works on prince, dont do this on deity) But just pick a culture nation like brazil and you can do the same thing
This just in if you mod the game you make it unbalanced.
Yeah he actually doesn’t exploit the game, he only exploits some kinda strange mod...
Lekmod is a modpack made for online games and isn't on steam workshop due to the workaround required to play online with mods
It's a balance mod that makes the game a lot better to play online
I didn‘t pay attention at the start of the video but as soon as he said: „people choose honor“, I knew this was a mod and not vanilla :)
Yeah, in vanilla, everyone take Tradition.
@@Alphenis Or Liberty. But only for rushing people with chariot archers.
My first pick was always to unlock honor when I played. Seeing the barbs when they spawn and the culture from wrecking them helps tons early. I never went further than unlocking it though.
@@BraghDaMan maxing it out is actually rather devastating :D I had a game where I was in a global war by accident ( i started going for culture victory but got forced into war)
either way, by getting all honor policy i manged to "EARN" gold even doh i was -60 gold per turn :D I was profiting. I constantly bought new units / buildings. And still ended up in 1000 gold.
Yes its not a flawless thing, but my point is. it does help in warfare and if you are going for domination victory i highly recommend using it.
Also tradition for culture is better than honor vs barberians. 3 instantly + per turn is better than a small burst when ever you kill a barb. other players can snipe the barb, it cost gold to maintain the unit. but on the bright side you can "grind" barbarian camps along as you use archers to kill and let them keep spawning. but that's about it.
Honor is mutch better for culture.
Libirty is better for faster expanding empries as described.
and honor is mainly good for war.
Although I strongly go for Tradition, whenever I would play with Raging Barbarians I would then always go with Honor, especially on harder difficulties, because the extra damage against barbarians is the only thing keeping you alive when the barbarians all suddenly upgrade their weapons from warriors to spearmen...
or 3 nukes on a carrier...
"Wait, they're all British?"
*always have been*
Underrated comment
I would like to see an online game between Spiff and friends where they are all competing, using different exploits, to see if the exploits balance out.
Who can exploit the most? That would be fun.
This needs more upvotes. That would be brilliant.

You can do the same thing with Byzantium, or another faith-oriented civ. The mod made it faster, but the strategy is OP regardless. If you have a desert start and get desert faith and Petra you can do it even quicker than he did with whatever civ you want.

Where would I get this mod, anyway? I cant find it and madagascar is not part of the basegame or dlc from what I can see. The only "lekmod" I can find doesnt have madagascar in it.
The image of the leader for "Madagascar" is definitely the Moroccan leader. Something's fishy... Spiff's brain is a perfectly balanced organ with absolutely no exploits?!
It does seem to be lekmod. If you search for the ability he's abusing (Sacred Hills of Imerina), you can find it listed in a few places. I suspect he forgot he had a bunch of mods enabled.
If you Google the nqmod on reddit you should be able to find the files for it.
yeah i was disappointed when i saw it was actually a mod. i generally don't mod games for that reason.
I can easily see that Ismoll Chee Ken really has influenced your style of video. Great to see him inspire people like you.😏
When he fully broke the game, I honestly choked on my tea from laughing.
I was wishing and hoping you'd do more mod based exploits because they can be really fun.
There's a mod in Civ 6 that gives archaeology sites a buff but accidentally reveals them by those tiles showing the buffed yields and allows your workers to harvest them in any era (accidentally), so you can can just spend charges to get massive boosts to science and culture.
This is just 1 example, I've found so many especially when you dislike base Civ 6 and need to install like 100 mods to make it enjoyable like me (I felt the same way about V)
Does joining Teaism require being incapable of pronouncing "th"?
I remember doing this to my friends once a while back. They all laughed when I picked Madagascar. They all laughed when I went Piety. I laughed when they banned Madagascar for all the next games for the rest of the year. Good to know my strategy was perfectly balanced and approved by Spiffco.

For such a gentleman-like person, spiff is anything but civil to video games. Especially to the civilization series
I couldn't find Madagascar in the list of official Civ 5 civilizations, then I noticed you're using a mod called Lekmod....
I decided to try this strategy on the current version of lekmod, which appears to have been updated to fix this balance issue - Madagascar only gives +1/+1 per holy site, but placing holy sites next to each other gives +1/+1 on each, so in the long run the holy sites are just as good but it's harder to get the snowball rolling. But it's even more broken now - pick "alters of worship" for your pantheon choice and beat your opponents to every wonder in the game (prioritizing all the +faith ones). In hindsight picking holy warriors might slow down the engine at a critical stage, however it's probably necessary as a hedge against early game military rushes
And I thought the Shoshone was a broken start...
