  • Cynthia Butler-McIntyre, 24th National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., presided over the Centennial Celebration of DST at the three HBCUs of New Orleans (she is also a Distinguished Alumna of Dillard University); this video represents the coverage of that celebration at Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO), the one public HBCU, the other two are private and parochial (Xavier is Catholic and Dillard is a United Methodist Church Affiliate). The Producer of this video was Mrs. Gloria B. Moultrie, SUNO's Vice Chancellor for Community Outreach, a highly honored member of DST and a highly recognized Alumna of SUNO. At this time in 2013, SUNO was still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina; DST was a major force in that recovery process and so the wonderful celebration of 100 years of Service and Sisterhood was bolstered by the fact that that Service had done so much to help this celebration be possible. Then Chancellor, Dr. Victor Ukpolo, made very clear the gratitude of the SUNO Family for the tremendous help that DST had provided which in turn made possible this timely celebration.
New Orleans is and has been predominantly African-American for a major part of its history; its HBCUs have been crucial throughout this period and the Greek Organizations have been crucial for supporting those HBCUs--this video is a window on the dynamic of this truly historic process!
