My respect for Prof. Sachs has grown tremendously after hearing him in “all in summit” talk. He stood firm for his belief under a lot of pressure in that talk, he talks with a real compassion for humanity, and while he advocates for peace, he is not naive in his thinking. And the man understands China deeply. The world needs more men like him.
I believe he is very much naive. I heard him that “someone” should get a passport. He might have worked in USSR and Asia, but he has no idea what is going on on the ground in central/eastern europe an Ukraine. He advocates to understand both sides, why doesn’t he represent both sides opinions?
you are so right, the John guy rationalizes a war between two nuclear powers, it is how human get extinct, we are smarter than people like him. John Mearsheimer is evil, he represents who we are not. We are better than him.

@@Aston1sh I missed that bit. I did hear him say something like that about China. That we should not just look at it from the US pov but also from China's and understand why China reacts to US belligerency. I don't recall any point where he said look at both points of view and equate them. After all the US is always the aggressor in my book and deserves to be treated as such. I personally wish the US would go and take a running jump and stop meddling so much around the world creating mayhem. Utterly fed up with their ridiculous teenage behaviour ...... which goes hand in hand with their teenage culture and history. By comparison China is far more mature as is fitting for a country with their long history and deep culture.
A long-time follower of Jeffrey Sachs and John Mearsheimer here. I've leaned more and more to Sachs as my exposure and research on geopolitics and economics expanded. Mearsheimer's "containing China" stand became increasingly aligned with the disastrous US government's policy since Obama's "pivot to China" days. I kept asking and arguing, WHY? China worked super hard to get to where they are now. They elevated over 800 MILLION of their citizens out of poverty just in the past few decades. They're one of the oldest civilizations, they're smart, they're innovative, they work hard, they're entrepreneurial, they're pragmatic, they hate wars, they don't intervene with other countries' politics, they don't bomb, nuke, regime-change other countries, they have only one military base outside China (to primarily protect their interest in a critical trade route in the international waters), they've advanced their educationl system, infrastructure and status of their society, etc., etc. What business does the US have in containing this unprecedented endeavor to a betterment of a billion and half lives? China has the absolute right to become a powerful nation because they damn well worked hard for it and achieved it peacefully (unlike the West that prospered by of course hardwork but also by genocide of natives, slavery, colonization, and unimaginable brutality). I have therefore lost interest lately on Mearsheimer's "realism" of choosing one nuclear war over the other. Sachs is always on point, reasonable, respectful to the sovereignty of the Global South countries and their leaders he works with, and truly passionate about peace and development. I'm with Sachs!
@@mnet1514 I totally agree with you. If John Meirsheimer was merely explaining the bridal cold realities of US policies, he's a great scholar. But when it is also his agenda to contain China, I disagree and don't think that's a good holistic man

Prof Sachs, thank you. You speak from the heart of humanity that yearns for peace and harmony. Some may despise and mock you, but billions stand with you. May God bless you and keep you.
Yeah but, what matters after all is REALITY! And the world simply does not work like that! It's a world run by states, and the nature of state-dynamics is not how Pr. Sachs sees it but how Realism - Pr. Mearsheimer - describes it. And it's not like it's a temporary circumstance in humanity, but it's always been this way, as history tells! Man gets to choose between being unrealistic and have delusional hopes and get dominated by the realists, or being a realist and try to do as much good - realistic good that is - as possible. The only scenario where the world can become a much better place is when it's run by a "moral pole", a pole (meaning the most powerful a state can ever be: a pole) that's based on REAL moral grounds and principles..
The world will be much better if one like Prof. Sachs run for the US president. But then I doubt Americans would vote for someone full of academic talks. It would be anti-American to buy words of a sensible intellect

Prof Jeff is absolutely right - India will never align with US against China. We don't hate China, don't about the other way around. - John Mearsheimer(Jewish)'s point of view: Evil never disciplines itself, imperialism and militarism never discipline itself, and the infinite desires of evil will inevitably lead to war. - Jeffrey Sachs's point of view: When evil realizes that it may have to pay an unbearable price (nuclear war), evil will have to start to discipline itself. First of all, stop emphasizing freedom, give up those evil desires that you are unable to realize, and do self-management and self-adjustment. - Mao Zedong's point of view (1953): "The U.S. imperialists are very arrogant. Wherever it can be unreasonable, it must be unreasonable. When it begins to abide by morality and justice, it must have been forced to do it."
I feel like mearshiemers principle that US must maintain hegemony at all cost and it must prevent others from becoming regional hegemony is the very principle that created the deep state that he derided in the beginning. After hearing this talk it’s clear that he’s not against the IDEA of US being involved militarily / starting wars n conflicts around the world, he just feels like US is involved in the WRONG areas. Ultimately while he says he’s not interested in regime change in China, this is precisely what he hopes to achieve as it is the only way to maintain US hegemony (until the next #2 threatens that hegemony). As he said there’ve been 4 times when US hegemony were threatened: imperial Japan, imperial Germany, nazi germany and Soviet Union. All of them ended in regime change. The real question we should be asking is whether it is worth sacrificing the world’s prosperity in order to ensure US hegemony.
That we just had two presidential debates where none of the ideas were discussed for the American public to take to heart, yet a group of interesting techies have rolled up their sleeves and tried to take on the most critical topic for America, our allies, and the rest of the world. --proof of John’s take on the two political parties, and the fundamental importance of our freedom of speech, that allows the hashing out of consequential ideas.

I feel that as Sach's pointed out, Mearsheimer's logic is flawed in a world with MAD doctrine. I think China would be willing to risk nukes to preserve its independence. But China is not willing to risk nukes to encroach on the US's doorstep. Right now with Mearsheimer's logic, he seems to think that NOT containing China would cause an existential threat to the US, as opposed to Sachs pointing out that the only thing that could hurt the US now, are nukes, which can only come from threatening China's existence by lining its doorstep with US military bases.
People are wrong to compare China’s rise today to its distant past. Modern China is emerging in a world built by the West-shaped by nuclear power, global economies, and technology that ancient empires couldn’t imagine. China won’t act like its old self. It adopted Marxism, a Western idea, and made it core to its system. This alone shows China isn’t locked into some "distinct" or "different" thinking. Common sense says it won’t tear down the Western-built system-it’ll tweak it and take the lead. The idea that Chinese or Asian thinking is fundamentally different from Western thinking is weak. This isn’t East vs. West-it’s human nature. From the Ashanti in Africa to the Polynesians in Tonga to China’s Warring States, they all followed the same power logic as Rome or Britain. Power isn’t Western, it’s universal. Mearsheimer’s view of China and the U.S. reflects how humans behave in power: fear, pride, greed, ruthlessness. China will act like any great power-because that’s what great powers do. Here’s a thought experiment: Do you see BYD or Huawei retreating? Do you see China backing down to U.S. pressure? Or companies you’ve worked for-CEOs, managers-doing anything but maximizing influence and power? What’s so difficult and controversial to understand here? And that’s the world we live in. The real problem? 80 years of peace and prosperity, largely built by the U.S., has created weak minds that have forgotten the brutal nature of power. Just like how junk food companies-born in that same peaceful world-left people with soft bodies, the West has grown soft in understanding what power really is.

6:30 The Great Criminal Jeffrey Sachs - who is directly responsible for condemning millions to death with his anti-socialist reforms - muses about being aware of the fascist deep state of the United States since the early 1990s. The US never changed. He just gained a little bit of understanding (but he never bothered to truly understand the evil of capitalism and the United States, he still believes it's "a few rotten apples" causing problems, instead of understanding that all problems he's identifying are inherent to the inhuman system he supports). It is deeply concerning when someone as intelligent and influential as Professor Sachs advances narratives that misrepresent the nature of Israel’s actions and intentions. His suggestion that Prime Minister Netanyahu is attempting to pull America into a war with Iran is not only dangerous but also fundamentally misleading. Israel, since its establishment in 1948, has been under constant threat, facing relentless attacks fueled by anti-Semitic rhetoric and violence. The October 7 assault by Hamas was immediately followed by threats and attacks from Hezbollah, with Iran openly supporting these actions. Israel is not seeking to drag the U.S. into a conflict but is defending itself against existential threats, as Iran and its proxies repeatedly call for its destruction. Iran’s “Death to America” chants and longstanding hostility towards the West are well-documented, and to downplay this reality is to ignore the grave threat posed not only to Israel but to all Western nations. Sachs’ dismissive attitude, coupled with the smugness of someone who believes they know better, is indeed alarming. He seems disconnected from the real-world stakes, while Israel is fighting not just for its own survival but for the security of the entire Western world. These scholars may impress each other in academic panels, but their disconnect from the harsh realities of global conflict renders their views dangerously out of touch. I am frustrated with the rhetoric of Professor Jeffrey Sachs, as such narratives not only frighten me but also risk gaslighting and furthering division and misunderstanding. My frustration extends beyond disappointment, as it frightens me due to the potential for these narratives to gaslight the public, creating further division and misunderstanding.

China has never been hysterical and biting others like a madman for being ranked 2nd, 3rd or lower. China bounced back every time. Unlike the Western powers, China tends to rebound by unifying its own territory and rarely expands or colonizes other countries. Now China is once again in the path of returning its pinnacle of history. China has a peaceful mind with these historical fluctuations. Because China is a mature civilization that is able to view changes in the power rankings of its countries with equanimity. The United States is very jealous of China's progress. The United States is a sad little country with a history of 200+ years. The United States has been No 1 in the world only once, for a total of less than 100 years. The United States cannot afford to lose. The United States is a country that cannot accept defeat in competition. it is impossible for a country to be No 1 power forever. China can't, USA can't, no country can. it is naïve to pursue all-time No 1. USA need grow up from a giant baby.
Jeffrey is an absolute legend! I wish more people in the US would watch talks like this and read his work. Well done All-In boys for inviting such a great intellectual to your show and for allowing such a rich dialogue. I love you guys!
He also seems to be the one who’s actually able to listen. The libs in the room seem to have really hard time with that. Constantly jumping out of their pants to interrupt the speaker.
Jeff's perception on the US is basically how people outside of the country see it all these years. It's a good thing an American says it out loud about the US being hypocritical. A truth that's hard to swallow for some audience but much more precious than any sugar-coated idealistic lies.
He mentions in one of these panels, that everyone in a position of influence in Washington should a get passport and travel a little, see the world understand how others think, get out of the box of the beltway.
reality...the US is Schizophrenia Anxiety Disorders Disruptive behaviour and dissocial disorders....in our policy abroad and at home! India is well aware that the bigger enemy is the USA. As the USA is trying to contain China... it will do the same when India becomes bigger than the USA.
I have to agree with every valid point that Prof. Jeffrey Sachs said. He speaks about the pros and cons of the underlying reality of American foreign policy.
Jeff is such a treasure for the whole world his wise and honest views should have changed the world if those in power had the interest to listen! May God keep you safe Jeff!
Shifting trade from China to India, will just create the same issue, but in a different country! As for dictators, forcing the world to bend to your demands, makes the US the biggest dictators on the planet!!! John is a wise man, but Jeff won this debate hands down! Notice that these two intelligent men, can disagree with each other, and still be friends. It's called diplomacy!!! The US should try it some time!!!
Mearsheimer assume USA should and is capable of stopping the rise of China. He didn't answer this question: what will happen if USA is not capable to stop the rise of China? Triggering a war and drag China into it? Does USA still has the industrial capability to win a WWIII?
US is no longer the engine for the world economy as it was post WW2 all the way to post cold war. China is now the biggest trade partner with the majority of countries. What happened between US and China cannot be replicate as China no longer relies on the US. Especially now with the all the sanctions China is forced to become self sufficient in high tech sector and in a few years US companies will completely lose its competitive advantage is high value added sectors.
You're perfectly right ! China was made so powerful by the usa and they're doing the exact thing to india . I agree that at a certain point all nations must level up to each other ,it's the only way . The usa need to change attitude
I too would love for the CCP to have a peaceful policy..... but having watched videos of China using their coast guard in islands 20 miles off of the Philippians, +500 miles away from China attacking, stabbing people, ramming almost sinking Philippian coast guard boats.... because China built a military base on top of the coral reefs inside the Philippians economic zones, but just outside their 20-mile boarder. There was a 60 Minutes episode about this I saw on 9.16.2024. It was just economic, but sadly now it is growing into a military force. Much the same as the US did, after we had our men being taken as slaves and worked to death in the Ottoman Empire in the 1800's. Edit for the literal Chinese Spies below: Yes, I have heard this from 4 different sources. Separately, I have heard this from my Aunt who is Filipino and has family back in the Philippines, as well as I have a childhood best friend who just moved out to the Philippines 3 months ago. The reason I said to watch the 60 minutes episode is because it encapsulates it well, and shows how the Chinese government makes their propaganda against the country they are attacking... in this case the Philippines. For the Chinese Spies, do you really have nothing else to do with your time? Why don't you go worship Xi more and memorize his "Xi Thought"?
China has the right to defend itself, just like any other country. They can and will build a powerful military. Now, how many countries did China invade in the last 100 years vs America, England, Germany, Japan, etc.?
John believes ALL countries would act like Anglo Saxons if they were in their shoes. I believe China as a civilization and society is fundamentally different and wouldn't be hellbent on meddling with others. China is just inwards focused, no one can change these forces that make it this way
@dunzhen I am probably biased because of my countries location and history. But to me, China seem like expansionist, and Russia is like a protective alliance. I am from Mongolia. But judging from the actions of NATOs in the last decade both Russia and China seem like angels in comparison.
USA became a hegemon due to very distinct and unique historical circumstances. It is highly unlikely that any nation would ever dominate the world the way USA has over the last 150 years or so, especially in an emerging multi-polar world.
@@marcomongke3116 That's fair. I think Anglo Saxon empires really put it into perspective how much worse China could be. I just won't accept hearing this from a Westerner...honestly. Unfortunately everyone lets them get away speaking from some moral highground

- John Mearsheimer(Jewish)'s point of view:
Evil never disciplines itself, imperialism and militarism never discipline itself, and the infinite desires of evil will inevitably lead to war.
- Jeffrey Sachs's point of view:
When evil realizes that it may have to pay an unbearable price (nuclear war), evil will have to start to discipline itself. First of all, stop emphasizing freedom, give up those evil desires that you are unable to realize, and do self-management and self-adjustment.
- Mao Zedong's point of view (1953):
"The U.S. imperialists are very arrogant.
The real question we should be asking is whether it is worth sacrificing the world’s prosperity in order to ensure US hegemony.

that's the joke, the biggest tyrant in the world is the usa
Professor Sachs is a blessing to the world. When this man speaks, everyone, especially those in power, ought to listen.
I agree he sounds like Mother Theresa. The problem is he has a soft heart to dictators of all types. Countries who are suppose to be self sufficient have become dependent because of policies he has been pushing internationally. It seems like seeing into situation through the prism of incremental change which is designed to rather benefit the donator nation or agency. He didn't seem to care about what happening to Ukraine. What about the need to challenge Russia for the invasion of Ukraine? He tend to attack the Dems than Trump or RW, sadly. He is a professor and works as a consultant or so, worth 10 Million dollars. He could be opinionated any day. No country is innocent, but to pile this much S on the US is not fair. The countries he is defending are those who are known to violate human rights. He knows the deal with the UN Security and how it works. I don't agree with him, but in part. Thank you.

6:30 The Great Criminal Jeffrey Sachs - who is directly responsible for condemning millions to death with his anti-socialist reforms - muses about being aware of the fascist deep state of the United States since the early 1990s.
Maybe if he had listened to the socialists of the Soviet Union - who understood how the US operates for many decades before his birth and were having to deal with it since the 1940s - he wouldn't have served the US empire but helped the USSR defend itself against the very deep state and capitalist ideology that the US always represented.
The US never changed. He just gained a little bit of understanding (but he never bothered to truly understand the evil of capitalism and the United States, he still believes it's "a few rotten apples" causing problems, instead of understanding that all problems he's identifying are inherent to the inhuman system he supports).
Every third rate socialist analyst from the 20th century had deeper insights and more interesting things to say than him, yet nobody ever listened to them. Least of all people like Jeffrey Sachs who has only barely begun catching up and recognizing his mistakes.

In the long history of 4,000+ years, China has gone through many ups and downs. Historically, ancient China (Han, Tang, Song, Ming, Qing) once was the world's No1 power many times. In history, ancient China (the Three Kingdoms, the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, the partition of the North and South Dynasties, the late Qing Dynasty, and the Republic of China during the period of Japanese aggression, etc.) also fell to a very low position at one time or another.

There was a 60 Minutes episode about this I saw on 9.16.2024.
It was just economic, but sadly now it is growing into a military force. Much the same as the US did, after we had our men being taken as slaves and worked to death in the Ottoman Empire in the 1800's.

Yes, I have heard this from 4 different sources.
