NECDET YASAR AT SUNO 1994

Necdet Yasar at SUNO 1994--Turkish Tanbur Master and his Ensemble performed at SUNO and Cafe Istanbul in this video. The performances took place in the Fall of 1993 but the video didn't post until the Winter of 1994. The visit was made possible via the Turkish American Association which had been very helpful with cultural contacts following my Fulbright Scholarship to Turkey in 1992, led by our Dean, Dr. Viola King. There was a wonderful cameo guest appearance of World-Renowned Jazz Musician, Kidd Jordan (who was also a SUNO Professor and Director of Jazz Studies), who joined the Yasar Ensemble in the Studio of SUNO TV Presents for a short jam session. The original recording of this program was destroyed in Katrina, but fortunately a copy was stored at NOETC in the NOLA World Trade Center; this is a digitization of that copy. The Video was a joint production between International Turkish Film and Video Center (Dr. Bahadir Inozu) and SUNO TV Presents (Dr. Michael Meehan).
Sadly, Tanbur Master Necdet Yasar passed away in 2017, but his wonderful musical genius lives on through recordings like this and in the hearts of all he inspired. Below is a link to his Wikipedia info:
