    Honestly out of all the people I watch to learn more about all things tattoo, you my friend are hands down the best. God bless you for helping us that really don’t want to have to be an apprentice at a shop forever to learn. The one thing I struggle with the most is thinking I’m going to deep but watching this video and your other one about depth helps. I’m starting to tattoo my thigh to get an even better idea of what I’m learning. Thank you!!!!!!! ❤

    I got to say this is a pretty good video, I bought a machine not that long ago mainly to give myself a couple of tatts. I was pretty bugged out about depth and all that and the practice skins ppl are talking about you should use are a little pricey for me at the moment, but I spent like 2 something on some bananas so I figured let's try this. I used one unpeeled and cut it to work on getting a feel and visual for how deep the needle should be going, then covered the whole thing with ink trying to get my hand used to it and pulling lines and doing some shapes. Then I used the peels off of eaten ones to keep practicing and I gotta say I feel kinda confident in moving to my thigh and trying some lines and a basic design. I definitely got more I need to know about like needles,shading and so on, but like I said I'm feeling confident that I can try the basics on my skin probably without blow outs. So yeah thanks

    Thank you so much for all the videos! I've decided to change my career and learning to be a semi-permanent make up artist and your videos have been an amazing help (especially the ones on depth and blowouts). Bananas are great and cheap way of learning the correct depth - I've been doing them for my assignments together with balloons (for pressure control during shading). I still have a lot of practice ahead but looking forward to it. Keep up the great work!

    • @johnwing8234
      @johnwing8234 Рік тому

      Curious : how are you using the bananas in conjunction with the ballooons? Would love to hear your method, thanks

    • @redhairedchef
      @redhairedchef Рік тому

      @@johnwing8234 I mean they are separate exercises. You just blow the balloon and tattoo on the surface trying not to pop it. This one's not about the depth but to teach you to put the same pressure on the needle throughout the swing during shading for nice and even shading - most people tend to press a bit harder at the beginning of the swing and that's when balloon pops, not sure if that makes sense.

And why doesn't I get any ink unte my skin? I'm using a 3rl with 6,5 v and 4,2 stroke. After pulling a line and swiping over, there's no ink inside the skin. What am I doing wrong? 😐

    • @DanielYuck
      @DanielYuck  9 місяців тому

      Thats a tricky question to answer! I would say there is no 1 number depth as everyone is going to be different. Some may have smaller hands which may have thinner skin on the fingers, some have larger hands which may result in thicker skin.

  • @theosilva2911
    @theosilva2911 Рік тому +2

    I think my comment got spam filtered bc I was trying to link an image, but I wanted to ask if the 1.5mm average everyone mentions is the start of the dermis, the center, or the end of the dermis? Since it's a layer with depth, I wasn't sure :o

    • @PsykotikTattoo_ACUS
      @PsykotikTattoo_ACUS Рік тому +2

      Since every skin is not the same, the depth of the dermis can be 1.5-2mm, but in some areas where the skin is thinner it might not even be that deep, you can know it when the needle breaks the skin by the sound it makes

    • @DanielYuck
      @DanielYuck  Рік тому +1

      Ahhh I apologize about that! I would say @PsykotikTattoo is accurate.
      I would say going about 1.5mm-2mm from the top of the skin is how I look at it. Everyone is different and every spot has a different depth. I would recommend to invest into some fake skins to get comfortable with the idea of finding the dermis.
      I also made a full in depth video on how to go about finding the dermis and I will link that to you below.

    I've watched a few different videos about needle depth that I'm not going to name but they always just say "Hey, hit the dermis" as a summing up of the video... they don't actually explain how deep that may be in relation to things we might already know like coins and bananas
    This video was great because it related it to real world objects that pretty much EVERYONE has handled at some point. Instead of just saying "Hit about 1.5 to 2mm below the skin on average but it varies where you go

    So I have a question sometimes my lines are skinny & sometimes there thick does the skinny lines happen from me not going deep enough? & in your opinion what’s the best needle for smaller line tattoos?

    • @DanielYuck
      @DanielYuck  Рік тому +1

      Ahh for me when I have experienced fluctuations in my lines it would typically be because my needle depth varied on that line. Keep in mind there can be other reasons why the line is not consistent but typically it can be caused by the inconsistency. The deeper the needle goes the thicker the line will be, the lighter we go the thinner the line is and remains "truer" to the configuration.
      For me personally I haven't really come across a smaller needle I don't like. I would say Quelle Needles, CNC Police are some that come to mind.

    the banana is actually a perfect representation as the dermis is between 1 - 4mm the average banana peel is about 3.6mm.
    anything less than 1.5mm and you risk not going deep enough and anything over 3.5mm is potential blowout territory. so on paper if i hung my needles out about 3mm i should be able to use about half (1.5mm) of my needles and still be fine if i accidentally went in deeper.. infact i SHOULD be fine even if i stuck the whole needle in, though this simply is not the case. on paper, blowouts should be nearly impossible, noone sticks their needles out 4mm infact most machines only allow them to go out about 4mm. but i have seen people blowout at 3mm so either medical textbooks are wrong about the depth of the dermis or our understanding of blowouts is wrong (not yours, the INDUSTRYS). because on paper this phenomenon should be VERY difficult to have happen, however it is fairly common.. id like to say as long as ur needle doesn't hit the actual banana once you've peeled the skin away then you should be fine.. but id be wrong. just when you run the numbers most of the fake skins are TOO thin. you should be able to blow out a 1.6mm fake skin without blowing out a 4mm human dermis..
    either way, weather the medical books are wrong or tattooists are wrong.. i have found that 3=blowouts (not 4.1) but 3.. i have found that 1mm is not deep enough (even though 1.1mm should technically be) i have found that honestly 2mm seems to be the perfect sweet spot. i like to hang my needle waaay out there though.. i guess around 3mm so if i use the bottom 1.6-2mm i should be good.. if i slip up and go mostly in.. it will end up slightly raised but not blown out.. id have to press it in all the way for it to blow out very badly (atleast i think)..
    its just confusing when anything under 3.5-4mm should be safe according to "how deep the dermis is" but for whatever reason its not actually safe. it seems anything over 2.1 is seriously pushing it. around 2.5 is when it seems to start getting into some scarring territory & pushing it way too close to blowout. (i think infact some blowouts occur at 2.5-2.8mm) but i also thing some "scratches" occur at 1.3-1.4mm. 1.6-2.0mm seems to be the sweet spot. which is all weird to me when im reading the dermis is 1mm and goes to 4mm before reaching the sub fat. i know its less in some areas like the eyelids but im talking about arms/legs even.. blowouts occuring at 2.6mm+
    i wish we could go by what the anatomy books say because then the banana peel would quite LITERALLY represent the dermis depth. idk, its all confusing to me lol
