Are you familiar with what the code "#08-03-RL" means?
In this video we will be diving into and learning how to decode the tattoo needles data to help us better pick the appropriate needles for the tattoo at hand.
We will dive into decoding the numbers on the needle packaging, we will take a first hand look at different needle configurations, we will do a side by side comparison, and more!
I am confident that by the end of this video you will leave with a better understanding of tattoo needles. This is what I would consider basic we will advance and dive more in depth with more needles as well soon.

Dang it would have loved to see the shader and liner side by side same configuration! Also what do you do with your cartridges during needle changes. And an up close of inking wiping ultimate details. That's where I worry cause no one gives those details. Seems insignificant and small, but I feel as though they are important.

there are some needles cartridge tubes that hold alot more ink than others. i hate when i get a new brand and the ink tends to run out immediately as needle hits skin, and some, like the Quelle, hold the ink so well, its great for a session.

    • @DanielYuck
      @DanielYuck  2 роки тому +1

I know exactly what you mean! I’ve used several where I found myself going back more over what I would like.
I’ll always use less ink in my needle cartridge chamber over a lot to avoid pooling. The Quelle needles are great for this approach and overall great needles in general.

isnt it so that there is not a huge difference if you choose a standard 12 03RL or for example a 10 05RL? i mean they make both about the same thick lines right?
so is it better to have a thicker gauge but less needles, or a thinner gauge but with more needles? :)

Great video!! 👍🏼My question is if two needles have the same needle count but deferent diameters is the needle with the smaller diameter going to be thinner? And if so, can I also use a needle with less needle count but larger diameter to achieve the same line?? 🙏🏼

    • @DanielYuck
      @DanielYuck  2 роки тому

Yes that would be correct to my understanding! If the diameters of the needles are smaller the overall line thickness will reflect that. If the diameter is larger the lines will be bolder. I’m terms of using a needle with less count but larger diameter I can’t be certain as every design would call for different approaches and every artist would approach this differently.
I recently made a video about the visual differences between round liners and round shaders and that video is right here m.ua-cam.com/video/iDZs_a6en10/v-deo.html
Don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions at all.

@@DanielYuck isn't it more or less what you prefer in all honesty though?I started out usen alot of 7rl even on smaller tattoos to achieve the thickness of the most lines I would use a 1207rl but then for smidge bigger tattoos I'd use a 1209rl and the boldness of certain lines looked way better so I started usen 1209rl on most outter lines then inner lines id use a 1205rl and for fine cursive in the same tattoo id use a 3rl.....bug pins imo aren't for everyone....I use both but standard is where your big bold lines are at

so i think what keeps confusing me os when you learn gauges for ears or wire it goes backwards a 18 being smallest & the smaller the number the larger the diameter. like a 6 is bigger than a 10... but am i understanding correctly this does NOT apply to tattoo needles for some reason.? so an 8(bugpin) is actually smaller than a 10 or a 12??? so a 10 is smaller than a 12 but larger than an 8? do i have this correct? because the whole backwards rhing was so heavily embedded in my brain that it made this specific part very confusing to me

But for BugPin I'm still confused ... You say that BugPin is gauge #08 and I totally agree with you, but why some brands use the same gauge and the same needles configuration
where however for them a needle is normal and a else is a bugpin? For example, Cheyenne Safety cartridges have these configurations, I will mention a few just for example:
    03 Liner Long Taper 0.30
03 Liner BugPin Long Taper 0.30 (Why??? What's the difference? One is like that: 03, RL, #10, LT and the other too!)
    or
    05 Magnum Long Taper 0.35
05 Magnum BugPin Long Taper 0.35 (Why is one Bugpin and the other not?!?!?? What's the difference?)
    or again
    09 Liner Long Taper 0.30
09 Liner BugPin Long Taper 0.30 (Why??? What's the difference?)
I guarantee you that Cheyenne is not the only brand that makes this distinction!
Nobody can answer this question, not even the suppliers !!!
This makes me think that the Bugpin is not the # 08 gauge but some other characteristic linked perhaps to the welding of the needles! I don't know... 😩
Please somebody help me understand, if you have an answer, please !!! 🙏🙏💚🙏🙏 Thank you so much!

@@DanielYuck Yes, for sure! Thank you so much! I apologize for my bad English ... 😅😅😅
It is very difficult to explain this whole concept in writing! What I mean is this:
      - We have defined that the "BUGPIN" needles are the # 8 gauge needles (0.25) ... Perfect! 👌
So... why do many suppliers sell cartridges of well-known brands, with needles that are gauge # 10 (0.30) or # 12 (0.35) as Bugpin,
but especially with the same gauge they have normal needles and Bugpins needles?
For example, Fk Irons produces the "Vertix" and there are the:
      Vertix # 12 (0.35) (RL - RS - RM) www.killerinktattoo.co.uk/box-of-20-vertix-cartridges-0-35mm-long-taper-magnum
      Vertix # 12 (0.35) (RL - RS - RM) BUGPIN www.killerinktattoo.co.uk/box-of-20-vertix-cartridges-0-35mm-bugpin-long-taper-magnum
The first is Normal, the second is Bugpin with the same gauge! That is not necessarily # 8 (0.25)
Another example is Cheyenne cartridges: www.killerinktattoo.co.uk/box-of-20-cheyenne-hawk-cartridges-all-configurations
In this case you can see in the list that there are equal gauges but one is normal and the other is Bugpin!
So, are we sure that the BUGPIN as a definition is just gauge # 8 or is it something else (which I still don't understand) ???
I apologize again for the inconvenience and I hope I was clearer this time! Thank you so much Daniel! 💛🧡❤️

@@antoniocalo4213, I can't answer as to how they describe their inventory but, #8 and #10 are considered bugpins. They get the name from scientists using those sizes to pin butterflies and other bugs to the board they are displayed on. They are based on needle diameter. I used your links and it looks like they may be typos. Hard to tell. You should be able to email, text, or call them to ask them.

Another informative video. Two things. Firstly this vid seems to concentrate on the differences between needle diameter within the same config, which is fantastic so thankyou for that. Secondly. Unfortunately you seemed to have missed my point when asking, which was the line diameter difference between rl and rs, using the same needle size and point count. And the point count difference for the same line diameter between rl and rs. As in a 1205rs would need a 12??rl to make the same line . But on the whole a damn informative video so thankyou
Oh and thirdly. Damn Daniel how much did you just waste on unusable needles. Lol.

The difference between round shaders and liners is how the grouping is soldered together. Has nothing to do with diameter or taper. If you know anything about making needles you would know that liners are soldered further down the bar making the tips tighter. Round shaders don't have as much soldered towards the tip making the grouping more loose. Hope that helps

@@tomdeibler3635 yeah I get that. And thankyou for clarifying just incase any readers didn't. My question was more in search of a comparison of line diameter. For instance. I want a line at x thickness. Achievable by using say a 1209rs. But I don't have one. Which rl would give the equivalent line thickness.

    • @tomdeibler3635

The only way to do that would be to sculpt your lines. I do that a lot so that I'm not burning through my needles. If you get on my Instagram you'll see what I mean. I'll use say a 7rl and build with it where it looks like I used a 14rl. My ig is tommyd_tattooer if you wanna see my work.

How I would describe the difference between round liners and round shaders is the space in between each needle. We have more space in between each needle making the needle bolder. That maybe due to where the needles are soldered which would determine that as tom stated. He does good work and is relaying good informations
In terms of needle comparison I just made a video demonstrating different needles in different sizes so it maybe able to shed a bit of light on this particular question.
