Hi Richard, I was hoping to edit and post along the way so people could follow the journey and say hi if I was in anyone's home port. I was so knakered after sailing all day and having early starts and combined with poor wifi i decided to enjoy the trip and worry about editing later. Dover keeps gets better every time I go. Not a port to be taken lightly. When I was coming back I home, i had a Westerly tail wind of 25 knots and tide of 4 knots and the waves were smashing the harbour wall and bouncing back. Never seen anything like it. I was lined up for the Western Entrance, i was close to missing it as I was going sideways 5 knots across the entrance. I put the engine of FULL power and pointed diagonally into the wind and just nipped in. Definitely the worst encounter on the whole trip. Thanks for watching and the next episodes get much more lively. All the best Rob
Hi Rob. Yes the Dover Western entrance can be very challenging in a strong westerly/south westerly, especially when it’s springs. Best to tell Dover VTS that you need to come round to the eastern and stay off a mile or so, watch out for the ferries and tuck in north of the Eastern entrance where it’s sheltered with much less tide until VTS give you clearance to enter. Once they know your intentions they will track you and be very helpful. Sadly there was a fatal single handed MOB at the Western entrance recently and whilst we don’t know what happened other than that his life jacket failed to inflate, the conditions off the western may have been a factor. Eastbourne in an easterly is equally challenging as is Brighton in a southerly! Best Richard
@@richardhall7822 wow, MOB In those conditions…. they never stood a chance. Funny you say about brighton. That was the strongest winds on the trip. Was aiming for east cowes and me and another boat bailed into Brighton when it hit 30 Knots.
Thankyou for the donation. It's the least I can do. It's all going towards a new insta 360 as I think it will make some excellent footage! Big crossing video on Sunday! Stay tuned 😎👌🏼
Thank-you lads! As always it was a pleasure and great following your live stream the other night. And anyone wishing to see these lads sail around the world, make sure you subscribe to their channel for some great adventure and tragic hair cuts 😂👌🏼
Thanks, great video and like you I am working on my confidence in single handing but in a a Cornish Crabber. Also like you I found myself having to accept fenders being out.
Hi Chris, glad you enjoyed it. Having fenders out isn’t a reflection of confidence, it’s being responsible to protect other boats in marinas as well as your own. The amount of times a strong undercurrent in some marinas has thrown me off even against strong opposing winds. II never wished I had smaller fenders or no fenders out 😂👌🏼 I put the fenders on along the wall as I have 10 of them 90cm long 30cm wide and it takes 5 mins to put them out. Thanks for watching
just brought my first ever sail boat from David morris. And Tim in your marina so I can start my journey and hopefully do what you are achieving, well done
David is such a lovely bloke. I just missed out on a bargain he was selling before buying this one. He had a Bene 30i very modern 2010 lifting keel for 46k. We missed out by 2 days 😅. Kind of glad I went bigger. Already feel I could do with a bigger boat…. Just without the mooring fees. What did you buy in the end? And where will you have the boat located? If you’re new to sailing and you ever need a hand, just give me a shout! Build the bigger journeys up slowly, all the learning has been accumulated over years despite me looking clueless. It’s helped me to stay calm and understand the likely conditions I’ll face and navigation. One thing doing class room exams and being out in the sea where nothing is ever constant 😉💪 Thank you for watching 🙏
@@EastCoastSailing_ many thanks for your reply. Please keep the videos coming. I brought an eagle 525. A 17ft drop keel trailer sailer. Moved it to brightlingsea at Morgan marine took it out the other week. For the first time. Put the headsail out only. And caught wind!! And sailed!! When you can not sail and only watch you tube videos. An amazing feeling. This week going to put the main sail up only. And try and catch the wind. So as you can see. We really are at the beginning. lol. It is just me and my teenage son. As like you. The rest of the family would die if they could not see close land. lol Very kind of you to offer to help. Something I might need. As all RYA courses test what you know. Which is currently zero!! If you ever want help getting your videos promoted. Let me know. You have the right idea on what you are posting. Are you looking to get it to paying you stage. Or just for fun? Oh and love your boat. You come across really well in the videos
@@marcusnorfolk7944 Hi Marcus, pretty close to getting monetised, just hit the 4000 viewing hours, just need another 150 subs to get advertising revenue. It’s cost me a fair bit to run the channel with software and music licence. Should be monetised at the end of the month. Channels started to get some traction and the views and subs are growing much faster. You will never be rich doing this. 1000 views is £4-8 if you count the filming, editing and graphics it takes 2 days for 10 mins. Just hoping it will help people as no one ever helped me when sailing. Learnt it all on my own and there’s a lot of learning. Any help promoting is appreciated. And your boat sounds great. Easily handled on your own, just watch the off shore winds when starting out, you don’t want to end up in Holland 🇳🇱 some really good sailing grounds on the black water and lots of Marinas to nip into.
@@EastCoastSailing_ quick question. Do you have a matching Facebook. Instagram and tic tok in your name? I am away at the moment but back tomorrow so can advise further. But at this stage. You need the above. Then short or long clips with link to you tube. Pushing them here for the views. All roads leading to where you get paid. Lots more than that. But your videos are so well edited. You are not far off. And I have been watching a LOT of sailing channels 😂
@@marcusnorfolk7944 I opened a tick tok and insta but I haven’t put much footage on it. I’ll have to play around tonight and set up a Facebook page tonight. I think you’re right, just don’t want it taking up all my life 😂. When ur back be good to have a chat about the channels u follow so I can get an idea. Just need do be discovered a bit more and improve like I have been every episode!
I absolutely love that video thank you so much, Robert❤
Glad you likes it. Plenty of good adventures coming up soon.
Fab. So glad you finally got there xx
Yes it was quite the achievement. 3rd times a charm!
Great video Rob. Most enjoyable. X
Thankyou, glad you enjoyed it. Hugo will be in the up and coming episodes.
Great video. Looking forward to the next
Thankyou for watching. The next one is a bit lively going to Eastbourne "THE WINDY CITY"
Great first leg to my home port. Looking forward to the rest of the trip.
