I just won an award at an art show with an image taken on a GX80/85 with the Panasonic Leica 15 mm. I printed 16 by 20 inches. I use DXO pure raw which eliminates any issues with noise at higher ISO.

Absolutely true. In my 20 years of photography experience, I've switched between various brands and mounts numerous times, but I always came back to Micro Four Thirds (mFT). Now, I'm here to stay. I appreciate that you highlighted the image quality, as many UA-camrs tend to downplay it with phrases like "the image quality is sufficient," implying it's only marginally better than a smartphone. That's far from the truth! With the right lens, mFT delivers fantastic image quality, often indistinguishable from cameras that cost five times as much. Go for mFT; you likely won't regret it.
    Thank you for speakinh out.

Great video - there isn't enough positive media regarding M43! All of the GX range are great value for the features you get and the vast lens range (with Lumix plus Olympus). I'm really happy with my GX1 and GX7 - very under-rated cameras.

How do you find the pancake for street only having AFS, eg moving subjects. The AFC actually is no worse than an Fuji XE4. Touch to shoot focus is awesome.

I think the 20mm is a great lens, fast enough. As for AF it works perfect in single. Same as on fujifilm if you want fast af(c) buy Sony, but those are no fun to shoot with :)

If I were looking for a fuji x100vi alternative, I think I'd go with the LX100 instead. I own both the GX80 and LX100 and while I love my GX80, the LX100 is the perfect everyday carry camera to me.
It has great glass (thank you Leica), manual controls (you even get a dedicated exposure compensation dial), is a tad smaller than the GX80 and has a decent battery life.
If someone doesn't need to shoot a lot of video, the LX100 is great as a dedicated photo camera (it also shoots 4k but you can't turn on stabilization when shooting video).
Its biggest downsides I think are the small delay you get before shooting when you turn on the camera and the lack of touchscreen and the non orientable screen but if you don't mind all of that and are looking for a good travel camera, this is definitely an option to consider.

@@tim_means_heart i agree with the LX100 used to own it, only downside for me was that it was a little too small and the grip no existant. I do have large hands.

Ik heb een Panasonic GM-5 met kunststof 12-32mm lensje als tweede camera bij wandeltochten. De GM-5 is het formaat van een mik-en-klik maar met een zoekertje en produceert met het kleine lensje prima kwaliteit froto's. Video is gedateerd. Het geheel past makkelijk in een jaszak.

I have the GX85. A very good camera.
Bought the GX9. Only incremental improvements. What I love about the GX9 is the L monochrome D B&W jpeg. My favorite B&W output. Neither the GX85/9 have a mic jac? Why LUMIX?
Then bought a GX8. A little larger and heavier than the GX85/9. This is a little older than the GX85. It was the flagship photography centered camera. Very powerful body. Does have mic jac and is weather sealed.
The LUMIX GX8/85/9 is a great choice. Lots of excellent lenses from LUMIX, Olympus, sigma, and others. The main advantages of the GX bodies are the small size and lightweight. Solid construction. IBIS. Excellent image quality. Plus many video options. These bodies are inexpensive and should be seriously considered when contemplating a camera purchase.
What a bargain price! Good shopping. These bodies can be difficult to find at a good price.

    • @paulanderson24
      @paulanderson24 3 місяці тому

@@t.armstrong3119 depends on the price and lenses. If you don’t care about a fast lens, the 12-32 kit lens is a little beast and pairs well with it. It's my favorite body. Bought it new in 2020 on black friday with 2 lens for 325€ I think. The two lenses are panasonic 25mm 1.7 and 12-32mm pancake zoom. I got also Olympus 12-40mm 2.8 pro and that lens I can recommend! It really is a pro quality lens! Also the olympus 60mm macro is amazing. I want to buy the 45mm olympus because of it's size but also great iq. Batteries are not very long lasting but 3rd party batteries are not expensive. AND it uses same battery as my tz90!

I used to own the 25mm and the olympus 45mm. I sold them all (episode that I never aired). In my opinion the olympus 45mm is one the great lenses on the MFT mount and I do agree that the batteries could be better, but they could also be a lot worse to be honest. The black friday deal you had is the best one I've ever seen :)

In 2018 I bought a GX80 because it was cheap, £350 new including a 12-32 pancake lens. Even at launch in 2016 the GX80 16mp sensor was seen as old hat, and there didn't seem a big future for the camera which is why Panasonic were selling them at a budget price two years later. Since then the GX80s merits have been reappraised, and prices have risen. It is rare for a digital camera with "old" technology to be re-evaluated, but the GX80 hits a sweet spot of size and performance.

Lumix is great and I print normally A3 or A2 and the image quality is excellent. I do have to admit that the prints from my full frame cameras (Leica Q &, Sony A7iii) do seems to render a little more detail and sharpness, but that is really peeping.

I owned the Gx80 but sold it looking to upgrade but camera manufacturers seemed to have stopped making small rangefinder cameras. I'm thinking of buying it again because I miss it. However, I think I might get the Olympus e-p7 instead as it is smaller, lighter, 20mp not 16mp and does 4k video without any crop. So it seems better. It does not have an evf but I never used it. What puts me off is the gimmicky selfy screen that flips down, you can't buy it in all black and it is too expensive.
