Sad part is that it was just jokes at first, and still is SOMETIMES, but other times you call tell that they genuinely believe what they’re saying in the video. But yeah it absolutely did make a bunch of ppl think that “reviewing” a movie is going over it with a fine tooth comb & to find any “inconsistencies, plot holes, etc.” that they can find cause you can’t just love a movie without negative feedback, that means you’re “biased” & thus not fit to review anything. But somehow at the same time if you “review” a movie/TV series and tear it apart even with “critiques” that don’t apply or are just flat out lies/wrong you’re giving an “honest/unbiased” review
You just know that if UA-cam existed in the 50s, we'd absolutely be getting videos along the lines of, "Citizen Kane: An Underrated Masterpiece," "The Amazing World War II Movie EVERYONE Forgot About" (it's about Casablanca), "12 Angry Men is a Cinematic Disaster," and then a decade later, "Why Plan 9 From Outer Space was Better Than You Remember."

But, after my beliefs were challenged and questioned, I left that group of losers and now I'm more optimistic, I'm less angry, and I judge movies and games based on how enjoyable they are.
Or how about you see the issues with both sides and form your own opinions? For instance, I don't see how one side mission about a gay couple in SM2 "ruined" the whole game. However, something like AC shadows intentionally adding the only Black guy in 1579 Japan and possibly making him gay is definitely stupid. I also think the whole empowerment of women is also dumb

@Kyle_Hanson lol, I do see both sides and form my own opinions. It's just the large majority of anti woke content is either false information, bad faith arguments, or just bitching about the dumbest things. They make it really hard to take them seriously at times.

Critical drinker is an absolute joke of a channel. Gone way too over the top with his aggravating cries of modern audiences and the message. I preferred him when he used to just talk about good films from the past and great films from today.

The hilarity of the "anti-woke" comic book movie critic is the undeniable fact that comic books have been 'woke' since their inception. I mean, the protagonists are LITERAL 'social justice warriors'. The X-Men were written as a stand in for any sort of oppressed minority, reflecting societies racism and homophobia back at it. As for the film snobs, movies are first and foremost entertainment. If a movie is making a billion dollars and sitting in the top ten for multiple weeks, whether you like the movie or not, it is a good movie because it is doing it's job, entertaining the masses, more successfully than other movies.
@craigjomaia Box office success does not necessarily mean a good or entertaining film. Jurassic World: Dominion, Winnie the Pooh horror films, and Emoji Movie were financial successes, but were perfect Razzies material. However, I 100% agree with your take on anti-woke people. They also say that Star Trek used to be apolitical.
That's not how it works. Money doesn't mean people love a movie. Seriously have you seen the criticism against the Avatar movies and Star Wars sequel trilogy?
Movies can do poorly but were entertaining and well written movies, but just had bad marketing. See Transformers One. Some movies do well because they are just kids movies so parents are an extra ticket that are tacked on. See Moana 2. The quality of a movie is subjective in the first place as well. You can’t say a movie is objectively good in any regard.
I stopped watching these "anti-woke" grifters when I watched nerdarodic's review of Shang chi, cause in his other videos he would through shots at Shang chi along with other marvel movies, so I decided to watch Shang chi and then watch his review of it and holy shit his takes were so disingenuous and sometimes straight up wrong, I thought he watched a different movie because I thought Shang chi was pretty good and one of the more unique marvel movies
It is. I'd say it's actually better than most of the movies in the early years of the MCU, like Thor and Iron Man 2. But of course, it's not profitable for them to mention that there is quality out there in this "woke" era
Eh, I don't align with Nerdrotic and his ilk but I thought Shang Chi sucks. I don't see what's "unique" about it since my main complaint for it was its lack of "freshness".
God, I hear you man, every time I get a hundredth video of "X movie/show doesn't work" or "X movie/show is a cinematic disaster" and one of my favorites of them all "How X movie/show is a lack of respect and offense and made you wasted time", I roll my eyes in a blink 🙄. Sorry to be an asshole then because Minions and Wish do suck, and you don't need to be a film student to know that. People do need better standards. I used to also watch him and his look-alikes (The Ant Man, Jesse Grant, Endemiyon, Nerdrotic, Grummz) and they are all the same. Anything that has a diverse cast of backgrounds and beliefs as lead protagonists is considered "woke," therefore bad, even if the movie/game/TV show is actually really good. What's sad is that I see alot of people coining the term the "Zegler Effect" where in their own words an actor has become so despicable that their work bombs simply because they're in it. And to quote what Sonic said on the Conan O'Brien show "You people could have directed your anger towards a number of injustices around the world but instead you chose to direct your anger on a young actress who was simply expressing her opinion on a 100 year old movie whose source material is accessible to the public domain"
@wunnamadam7679 there is an argument to be made that Rachel Zegler handled herself poorly but at the same time people like Robert Downey Jr have made similar comments and were very snarky in his interviews. Ngl I used to watch one of these anti-woke videos, until I eventually stop and found out that all they do is talk nonsense and not the media they're actually reviewing. But that experience did at least taught me to be more aware of those "reviews"
It's still hilarious to me how The Last Jedi is what caused Jeremy Jahns to slowly fall into the "anti-woke" grift. Like you can tell he wants to say that word so badly but still wants to keep it vague to retain the audience. Then he reviewed that Matt Walsh garbage, lmaoooo
You have to define "woke" first to tell me what kind of people you believe are not anti-woke. The fact that you are saying woke equals bad automatically makes you anti-woke and therefore cringe.
It sucks because it's always scapegoated onto being gay and not being a shit ass movie. Strange World or Elemental aren't bad and boring because a gay person was on screen for a few seconds. It's because they're bad. The logic of people like Critical Drinker is so backwards, like how can you be so egotistical and tunnel visioned and then review media outside your comfort zone.
Used to watch them unironically. Still a few rare times they make sense but I mainly watch them as an irony. Hearing someone saying that the LGBTQ community took pride to disassociate it from the pride of serving the country and the rainbow from the promise of god that he wouldn't flood the earth again and calling a person like that just existing in a movie propaganda is so ridiculous it becomes funny to me
the best way to enjoy a movie, is to watch it yourself. just ignore social media. critics are not your opinions, they are not your thoughts. what they say is "garbage" might be the best movie of the decade for you. that's why i don't take online youtube critics words too seriously. i am in it for the laughs.
Me with Red one. Though I was unwilingly dragged to watch it, I ended up enjoying it. Though I won't ignore the glaring issues of the movie like having a 250 million budget for some reason
@@DylanoRevs you are right. sadly these budgets are way too exaggerated because 70% of it goes to the actors, 20% to the higher ups and the suits and only 10% goes to the actual people who created the movie. it's very sad.
Only complaint about the fallout tv show was the impossibility of a man speed walking with his dog managing to somehow not get shot by turrets. But other than that, the show still managed to be good. When I heard about the casting for Fallout, I thought that it makes complete sense honestly. because we can make the character we play as in the fallout games any race, or even make them male or female. Plus the comedy actually makes sense considering how pretty silly the whole fallout world really is when you really think about it.
When I was in high school I was in that “anti-woke” crowd. But it was around the time of captain marvel (I think a bit before it, but that was the last straw) that I started to realise something was a little bit off.
my other youtube channel is dedicated to making fun of these anti-woke people... spreading political propaganda & disguising it as intelligent film critique while whining about disney princesses
As someone who is very much the film student type, I agree we can be very annoying. I would add that a lot of us aren't that bad. Films are our passion and we have a genuine interest in how and why they are made, and enjoy sharing that with people. It does manifest itself in a lot of annoying ways. I'll admit that I chat through films (though never in the cinema. I only annoy people I know), and there are so many people that meet the "pretentious film student" cliche to a T (I've met a few), but by and large, we're only partially annoying. Most film students I know can enjoy both indie films in a foreign language and a big, noisy and dumb action film. What I care about (and what most film students care about) is that they are made with passion, and actually try, which means lazy filmmaking is often what ends up annoying us (cough, cough, Disney remakes).
The Marvels wasn’t a failure because of “women”. It was a movie that continued two tv shows and the movie had very little marketing. Was it good? Your opinion. But was it a “woke box office flop”? No.
When someone says they didn't like a film and I ask why and they say one little detail that was "wrong." Every movie has something wrong with it, they can still be great.

~ Cinema Sins probably
LMAOO I used to watch them religiously

Same with Wizards beyond Waverly place and Moana 2.
These people are just pathetic man...
These people love saying that and seem to have two reactions if their "woke" thing does well/is perceived positively:
1. Pretend like they never said anything; actually, they knew all along that the Spider-Verse movies were gonna be great, and they never said anything to the contrary.
2. Just... keep pretending like they're right. Like, I still hear them call Captain Marvel a failure that went broke, and like... it made over a billion dollars.

I fell into that anti-woke rabbit hole. Quartering, Clownfish, Yellowflash. Mostly because I got some of the anger, big companies throwing in things or doing unwanted live actions was annoying. But I stopped when I realized all of them would despise me and whatever I made (want to be an author with queer characters), and that I didn't care much about the stuff they were complaining about anyways (like Marvel and DC). And every moment of their life is spent looking for things to hate, hence why they'll post 5 videos _per day_. That just sounds like a very depressing way to live your life. I'm surprise some of them even have kids when they spend so much time talking to a camera.
And then they'll praise things like South Park and Fallout New Vegas for being "against the woke", when both things have plenty of examples that prove otherwise, and in fact, especially South Park, have been against people like them.
All their channels could be wiped off the face of the planet, and literally nothing of value would be lost.
Anomaly was who i used to sub to because he defended the Star Wars prequels

To be fair when it comes to Harry Potter a lot of the changes they made for the movies made the story better, although I still wished they flushed out Ginny more.
Taking out SPEW was a smart move.
nah the changes was MOSTLY shite and some changes has its ups and downs like the final fight with voldermort and how he died, they took a lot of the stuff that ron did and gave it to hermione so ron suffered
About the only real thing they cut from the Harry Potter films was Dudley's change of heart from the last movie. That was real growth for the character.
The Half-Blood Prince was mostly ruined in the movie version, especially with what they did to Ginny as well as her and Harry's relationship. She practically had no personality in the movies, and her and Harry getting together felt like it came out of nowhere when they actually dated in the books. I hope the TV show will fix this when we get it eventually.
@Ammy-q4w
For real, I didn't read books and watching The Half-Blood Prince, Harry's feelings to Ginny came out of nowhere. They didn't interact in previous movie, and now he's in love in her, I was confused how movie didn't make any explanation to it.
Reading the books I understood Harry's feelings and how he feel in love in her, like Ginny as a character and their couple.
"Now on the topic of (character) being played by a black actress, personally, I don't really care, but (proceeds to complain about the character being played by a black actress while still pretending to not care)"

Honestly, the anti-woke crowd is the worst. Most of the movies or games they fuss about hasn’t even come out yet, but stay quiet or double down when it does well.
There's also the people who judge how good a movie was SOLELY based on its box office. (if it made lots of money, it's good to them, and vice versa, regardless of how good the story was.)
Example: 2021's Suisce Squad made $170 mil but had a good story
Movies are there to entertain. The more people enjoy and watch a movie the better it did it's primary job. How is that a bad metric overall? Sure, you may personally not like it, but apparently a larger amount do.

Spider-Man 3 is underrated...(unironically though)(in my opinion)(it holds a special place in my heart)
What I've learned is that if a video has a photo of a female celebrity that's usually not flattering and a bunch of words like "woke" "she's pissed" "feminist" or anything remotely progressive in all caps in the thumbnail, the criticism isn't good
Finally, people are talking about this in dedicated videos
What's sad is that I see alot of people coining the term the "Zegler Effect" where in their own words an actor has become so despicable that their work bombs simply because they're in it. And I'm like "dude Robert Downey Jr is always snarky in interviews yet he gets a free pass." And to quote what Sonic said on the Conan O'Brien show "You people could have directed your anger towards a number of injustices around the world but instead you chose to direct your anger on a young actress who was simply expressing her opinion on a 100 year old movie whose source material is accessible to the public domain"
Eh, to be fair you cant get mad at people not liking her because of how she spoke about the movie.
@wunnamadam7679 there is an argument to be made that Rachel Zegler handled herself poorly but at the same time people like Robert Downey Jr have made similar comments and were very snarky in his interviews. And Rachel Zegler was only doing what Robert Downey Jr was doing yet she gets hate for it. This is a prime example of if a man says something it's funny but if a woman says something similar it's seen as condescending. So if people are going to get upset about Rachel Zegler and try to cancel it's only fair that they apply that to Robert Downey Jr and other male celebs who have said similar things
@@marcelinovazquez5128 I understand your point but I think your when men say something point is unfair. @@marcelinovazquez5128 I will agree that the hate she gets is 100% unfair and people do too much. I saw the trailer getting insane hate and it looks fine. And I don’t even like her
@@wunnamadam7679 that maybe true but depending on the context sometimes it's not that important because not many celebrities get this much hate for just expressing their opinion.
