that’s exactly why you SHOULD meet your heroes. to see the truth behind them and make sure you follow in the footsteps of the right ones, and be better than the others
19:18 The fact that Cars is about a rookie racer learning to be more humble and less prideful, and the fact that Lasseter puts HIMSELF above Jorgen Klubein and Joe Ranft's name in the credits, despite the fact that he didn't come up with the idea is totally bonkers to me.
I recall Brenda Chapman said that the finished film was close to her original vision. Which just makes her firing even more infuriating, since Lasseter booted her just to do the exact same stuff anyways.
The final product for Brave had a paper-thin story, thin compared to Pixar's previous feature-length films. Yeah, the original version of Brave sounds better.
Oh my god I was thinking this same thing I literally wrote this guy fan mail and was so sad he never replied, I was like I love that Good Dinosaur trailer
I wanna see some recreate Lotso’s backstory but John is Lotso Brad Bird is Chuckles and the new lotso that Daisy gets is Peter Doctor but who would be the baby and Daisy? I do know that sunny side daycare would be sky dance studios
Dan Schnider was a wolf who bought a pack of worse people with him,on the boat and probably knew everything. Lasseter was a person who did not respected the personal space and was a control freak for various proyect that never made it. They are not even on the same level. It's not even on par with John K.
this is damn heartbreaking because his love of Miyazaki movies (my most cherished and favorite in all of animation personally) almost single-handedly brought those productions to mainstream america and western animation. but someone's good taste doesn't indicate a good person. that's probably the core learning point in situations like this. even miyazaki is said to be miserable to work for, not to this scale of course, but you can have a visionary mind who is also a nasty individual. that's just life and it's ok. it doesn't take away the spirit of the work. nothing can
@ Yes exactly! The movies are especially loaded with "Castle of Cagliostro" references as that was Lasseters favorite. Like the little yellow italian fiat in one of the cars movies. I even have a pet theory that Tangled has a lot of Cagliostro inspiration (That was the first Disney movie produced by Lasseter and the only adaptation of Rapunzel to feature a thief climbing the tower rather than a prince).
The current issues with Pixar are a multitude of layered problems in and out of their control. John was someone who coasted on his successes and only really worked well as a team player. He would honestly make things worse in general if he was still around. It’s sad seeing someone I used to look up to as a kid reveal themselves to be horrible, but I supposed that happens with this industry.
"He only really worked well as a team player" Uh he made a lot of those early Pixar shorts basically by himself, a lot of which are considered classics.
He worked on the original story with three other guys, yes and he directed the first two films and was going to direct #4 before the allegations happened. And those are basically damn near perfect movies. I hope people can still enjoy those movies even with the allegations.
@@AmishParadise27I enjoyed Toy Story except 4. I tend to separate art from the artist, but for something that me and a lot of other people grew up with, it’s difficult.
My high school art teacher was his mom and she would show us his pencil animations when he was still in college. I agree, this makes me wonder what his mom would think of his legacy
Thank you for making this. I think the persistent defense of this man highlights a much bigger issue of people being willing to look the other way towards unethical conduct behind the scenes if it means the movie is good, not realizing the harm it causes to the people who play a large role in making said movie what it is. Citing one individual as solely responsible for a studio's output implies that their films are a monolith that all can easily be categorized as "good", and not a diverse set of stories that each have their own unique flavor to them. It never has been nor will be because of one person.
Well that's the thing in MOST hollywood success stories, if you're the director of a movie or game or any kind of project. Your worth is measured on how much cash you're able to pull in, NOT how much your influence or how people view you in a workplace. John was able to pull in tons of cash for Pixar during his tenor, which helped bring Disney's public outlook towards a positive and helped grow Pixar's prestiges reputation. It's not too surprising executives covered for his unacceptable activity.
@@Optimegatrongodzilla LOL if all those whisper comments and the fact that Disney literally hired people to “keep him in check” isn’t evidence to you I don’t know what is. Listen buddy there is a very low chance that those allegations are false especially if by more than one person. Also in response to that one comment you posted a bunch of times here before they were removed. They probably didn’t pursue legal action because they were scared of losing their jobs and being black listed, I mean look at what happened to the women who tried to report Harvey Weinstein before the MeToo movement. Though I have a feeling that even if he was taken to court you would most likely still be trying to defend him and saying something along the lines of how the court screwed him over because he’s a man. Either way keep huffing the copium friend.
Not people. Just men. I don't see a single woman defending this creep, but I see half a dozen dudes in this comments section alone downplaying what he did.
Despite it being 7 years since his departure, It still hard to process the fact that one Pixar’s big players back then wasn’t exactly the saint we thought he was
The harassment allegations are inarguably worse, and reason enough to dislike him But i had a friend who worked for Disney in the 2000s and into the early 2010s At Disney, it was common to draw cartoons poking fun at other employees or executives, and pin them up around the office My friend made one of John, everyone thought it was funny, seemingly even John... And then John fired him. Man can't handle anyone poking fun at him even slightly 🙃
I remember seeing some of these posted on CartoonBrew. Specifically, one where John was portrayed as an overweight, Hawaiian print t shirt wearing, wine loving, egomaniac. With Pete Docter…basically kissing his ass.
I am starting to think that Lotso was a character based off of Lasseter, because their names are similar, and Lotso’s actions seem like a more SFW version of the things he had done.
now that i think about it, lotso & lasseter share alot of similarities; hugs way too much (buzz and woody looked uncomfortable when he charged hugs at them), looks nice and charming, extremely powerful, behind closed doors he's an asshole, represses & kicks out anyone that doesnt align with his views,...
To all who are new generation artists and storytellers don't follow in john's footsteps... Don't let your greed and ego get to you. People like john are the reason why i rather work with an indie studio.

I just saw this video in my recommended and honestly… I feel like my childhood was shot in the heart. I honestly feel uncomfortable listening to topics like this, but honestly this one is an exception since just like a lot of people I grew up watching Pixar movies, but I feel like it’s gonna be harder to watch them now… at least the ones I grew up watching… “You can’t count on anyone. Especially your heroes” That quote has always stuck to me but now it just hurts even more…
I grew up on Disney's hand-drawn animated movies before Pixar's, and he really did have a lot to do with why we rarely get to see them anymore even if he were too proud to ever admit it.
@HeroTheHedgehog999 The allegations are BS, as is this video. There is zero definitive evidence to back up these claims and the fact that there has never been a trial speaks volumes.
As a kid, I used to love John Lasster's work from my favorite movie, Cars. And I didn't know why he left Pixar to Skydance until this video. I never thought my favorite director would be such a creep and be selfish with other people's original work.
@jordanb.6822 He's not. The allegations are BS, as is this video. There is zero definitive evidence to back up these claims and the fact that there has never been a trial speaks volumes.
And if you watch more of the video, you'll realize not only he didnt have much involvment with the movie, but he pretty much stole the idea from a former friend and then proceeded to fire him
@bensadfleck9972 Seeing as how 'A Bug's Life' and 'Cars' were made before John Lasseter was in charge of Pixar, Jorgen Klubien not being given credit for his contributions to them, not being made a co-director of 'Cars', and being fired from Pixar aren't John's fault. The allegations of sexual harassment are BS, as is this video. There is zero definitive evidence to back up these claims! Just hearsay. Just claims. The fact that there has never been a trial speaks volumes. This is just another case of a celebrity having false accusations brought against them by attention hogs who think that it's fun to ruin the lives & careers of celebrities, and who want to see if they can get a ton of money in the process. Michael Jackson, Johnny Depp, Drake Bell, and Johnathon Majors got their vindication and hopefully, John Lasseter will too. Contrary to what some people would have you believe, not everyone in the entertainment industry is like Harvey Weinstein. Unfortunately, there are a lot of mindless cancel culture sheep out there who blindly believe every allegation put out there about a celebrity. Would I say that John Lasseter is perfect? No. Of course not. Nobody is perfect. But, claiming that he's some mustache-twirling villain with no definitive proof to back it up is rediculous!

What it became in the end didn’t resonate with me because that part of the storyline wasn’t properly written. And I’m still angry about it.
I can’t believe he blackmailed Henry Selick, when he was working on a stop motion for Pixar! But thanks to Lasseter, due to his greediness, the project was cancelled!
@@CmmntrNo.15789 Blackmailing is also another massive red flag equally as sexual misconduct since you’re being threatened by such awful inhumane people forcing you to do something that can traumatize you and potentially ruin your life.
14:06 I wouldn't be surprised that the writers or animators of toys story 3 made lotso an effective villain based on John Lasseter cause of his behaviour. Edit: It was spot on for Selick to describe Lasseter
John Lasseter is sort of like Dave Grohl, in which he was considered a very friendly dude in his early years, but turned out to have some dark skeletons in his closet when it came to appropriating women.
The sadder part is that so many people defend John Lasseter. Currently Lasseter works at Sundance Animation but both films hes had influence on, they have not been well well recieved. And some people still want Disney to hire him back.
*Skydance Animation Also, no one at Disney Animation and Pixar wants him back. His old office at WDAS was gone after he left. How I know this, a friend of mine works at the studio and told me about it.

Now it makes sense why Cars 2 was so different in every way to the first one,Lasseter didn’t do jack shit in it so he completely missed the point of what made it so good and enjoyable,I’m glad the Cars 3 team understood the series and gave us a great conclusion to it.
So far this has been the only "casualty" of MeToo to get to me, I idolized this man growing up, Pixar is the reason I ever got into film, fucking hell man
Sadly I know people who still worship despite what he did. Theyre happy to rip into John K and JK Rowling, but despite the evidence, they still kiss Lasseter's boots. Pot calling the kettle black, much.
I really don't like that he sabotaged advertising for both The Princess and the Frog and the 2011 Winnie the Pooh. I also highly disagree with his choices for Zootopia. He excluded non-mammalian animals, aquatic mammals (you could have had them travel around town in canals like in Sing), and nonhuman primates (saying that they would be too humanlike and distracting, but this truly implies that he's, in real life, secretly afraid of things like monkeys and chimps).
I'm just glad they didn't use the old cliche of making reptiles the villaiins; as someone who's a Komodo dragon at furry conventions I would've been personally insulted
Just a gentle reminder: Some employee at Pixar had a “secret” Love Lounge. It was a small crawl-through door into a small room where it was all velvety and sensual-ish. @@akganimationstudioproducti3779 Good point. Even to this day, I still love his Pixar shorts, Toy Story, A Bugs Life, and Toy Story 2 which were his best work in the animation catalog. (Cars 1 was Jorge Klubien’s idea, not John’s) I would’ve thought he would redeem himself from his awful behavior at Pixar and Disney, but with what’s been going on right now at Skydance Animation, it’s already far too late for him… Sometimes it’s difficult to cut ties with someone you looked up to since childhood… it was a little bit difficult for me of course, but I eventually learned to let it go, and just accepted the facts. And plus after the “Quiet On The Set” documentary series (dark side of Nickelodeon) and the false allegations towards Chuggaaconroy (I was initially devastated, but then he came back months later with full receipts to clear everything) that taught me two valuable lessons: 1: “Never meet your heroes” 2: “Never jump the gun.” (As in, never jump to conclusions)
All I can think of is the post credit scene in Toy story two with stinky Pete, the prospector and the two Barbie dolls. I knew there was a reason they removed it in subsequent releases.
Also the mini series from Inside Out about how Dreams are directed in Reilly's head could definitely be a similar insight. Though at least the character in that she has growth as a director with a huge ego. He could learn a thing or two from that mini series.
Remember that one behind-the-scene tour from the Monsters Inc DVD that featured the hidden love lounge? It really… hits different now as it hit when the news broke out.
Park and Lasseter were 2 of my animation idols growing up. The truth coming out about Lasseter was the main Me Too outing that hit me personally. I hope we never find out anything like that about Park

Welp, after seeing this video, I believe I have lost all respect for John Lasseter, which is a shame since I loved the Cars and Toy Story movies growing up, and the fact that Lasseter stole the credit for Cars and was very sexist is just plain wrong. I guess it wouldn't be as far of a stretch to consider him the John Kricfalusi of Disney, two once respected animators who created our childhoods, only to be revealed as nasty people. They even have the same first name, so they are similar.
Literally I watched the Inside Out mini series about how Reilly's dreams are directed and it has the main focus on a director with a huge ego about her past successes. The only difference is the character actually grows from her ego. It would be nice if John could learn a thing or two like the fictional character could.
I’ve always maintained that David Ellison is a pathetic virgin compared to his badass chad sister Megan who has not only collaborated with studios like Point Grey and Laika to make the best works they can, but also helped resurrect the film adaptation of Nimona from its initial cancellation and it generating an Oscar nomination (nothing Lasseter has been involved with post 2017 has gotten any of that). Y’all may disagree but others are leaps and ahead above Lasseter right now and it’s only a matter of time before he eventually realizes it enough to call it quits and retire for good.

I'm truly surprised people defend John Lasseter. Hugging someone when they don't want to be hugged and making them uncomfortable is inexcusable. Plus, nobody should need to have their impulses reigned in, so they can work at a company. If a person is incapable of controlling their awful behavior, they need to be fired.
It's not the same as rape though. People are treating him like he did rape someone. Yes, hugging someone without their consent is wrong. 100%. No one is arguing that, and anyone who DOES argue that is a moron. My point is that people are treating him way too harshly, and plus we have no idea if the allegations were even true. Note that word "allegations". That means it could be true and it could not be true. No one has proven without a shadow of a doubt that he did or he did not do it. Just words. I could say "Andrew Stanton embessles funds from Pixar" but that does not mean it's true. And again as I said multiple times before... if he was such a menace and such a disgusting person towards the oppposite sex, then why did Skydance hire him? Wouldn't that have been a MASSIVE red flag to their public image and to public relations? Like "holy crap this dude is a disgusting sexist and views women like objects... 0:49, I had no idea that John Lasseter wasn't the head of Pixar, but rather brought on as an original storyteller. This guy shaped my childhood by having some of the best movies of all time with Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and yes, even Cars. But I guess that shows the inevitable dark side of Hollywood!
The first Cars despite not being Pixar best effort imo is charming, Cars 2 is just when the series jumped the shark imo, I loved more when it was all about the racing and cars cultures adding that stupid spying sub plot was really dumb and unnecessary
Great video! It's nice to see someone FINALLY acknowledge that bringing back John Lasseter won't magically bring Pixar back to its glory days. It's almost as if these people completely forgot about John Lasseter's declining creative mojo, his mishandling of Brave's release, and his decision to green-light bullshit like Cars 2 or the Planes duo. Instead, what Pixar must do is look forward and create new kinds of movies that appeal to increasingly diverse movie-going audiences. Turning Red and Soul were steps in the right direction, and, quite frankly, I couldn't have seen those movies being released under Lasseter's leadership. I have fond memories of Pixar's 1995-2010 movies. They were all really well-done movies. But, some people act as if Pixar needs to continue releasing movies that were identical to those to come back to strength. Oftentimes, when a company is changing, it has to go through a bit of a rough patch before it finds its footing. New generations of animators need time to adjust to audience expectations and figure out what they want before they start putting out gold. In other words, Pixar's not dying out. People need to be more patient with the new artists & animators working at the company. Additionally, they need to realize that 1 person isn't responsible for a movie studio's hits. As far as I know, John Lasseter didn't direct The Incredibles or Finding Nemo, for starters. Entire groups of people, some of whom who don't get enough credit, worked on these movies. Overall, I can only hope that Peter Docter won't make the same mistakes that John did. So far, he seems he hasn't been doing that.
Say what you want about the creep (I agree he’s creepy as well[ I’ve dealt with similar people in real life]), his decision to axe “American Dog” was a good call. “Bolt” is clearly the superior film, with a heart and soul thanks to Chris Williams and Bryan Howard.
To be honest, even though I love animation, and in part, Pixar, he always gave me a bad vibe. His name held a lot of credence, but when I started seeing him in interviews I noticed he had too much of a friendly car salesman attitude. I didn't genuinely see him as an artist, more so he was just talented in storytelling. His excessive hugging reminds me of an old HS classmate that would try it on EVERYONE. He had such a harmless demeanor, but most still enforced their boundaries on him. We should never let overly friendly men with power get comfortable.
It’s just kind of sad to learn, I love Cars but it being taken away from someone is just frustrating to hear. I’m glad Pixar now can do what they want to do but I believe they can get back up without having John harasser there
You should do a video about the former great Pixar and Disney animator Bolger Bouchiba, who went to jail in France for 25 years for abusing children. He was a favorite Pixar guy. Take a look at Cartoon Brew. The guy is a monster.
Tbf, Bouchiba doesn't have as big as an impact as Lasseter. Bouchiba, from what I know, is only an in-betweener animator for Brad Bird's projects. He didn't direct nor even write.
You missed out the entire article that covered what Pixar employees felt about Docter. Some felt that he was a good boss, BUT others felt that like John he was being idolized and that’s what led to bad crunch times. But to me, the damage has been done. Pixar’s glory years are over for now. Even when the company creates consecutive acclaimed films you can’t be certain the third film won’t be either a sequel or disappointing. John made so many women quit or feel unsafe at work. He prevented interesting movies from being made. He was the one who ultimately made the decisions to focus on sequels and spinoffs. And it’s not just women, it was male employees who felt they had to accept hugs or at least what one male employee told a journalist, “I had to go to strip club with my bosses.” John consistently upheld the boys club of animation; excluding women and other men not like him from reaching new heights. I imagine disney still struggles to put women and nonwhite employees in important animation projects and as shown by that reports, the company DIDNT care enough to punish John for his behavior and considered bringing him back. Obviously it’s not solely a Disney problem but a Hollywood problem. We are left with questions that aren’t answered. What did the more famous partners of John know about his behavior? When did he start harassing women? What did John’s Family make of this? What were the changes made by the company in response to the allegations aside from personal changes? Why wasn’t John fired when he made bad financial decisions? In the end, as one op Ed out it, John spent years telling g the world he made stories for young boys. These stories were ones to espouse morals and to provide them comfort. Yet, John always neglected to mention girls and to think of them. For em, it shows how much he differs from studio ghibli (the studio he adored) and himself.

Y’all may disagree but others are leaps and ahead above Lasseter right now and it’s only a matter of time before he eventually realizes it enough to call it quits and retire for good.
Death Wolf: what's the matter John? Life's flashing before your eyes? (Kicks a copy of Cars 2) Death Wolf: pick it up. Pick. It. Up.
Also for those who comment "stop Cars 2 slander" take that to Francoraptor2018, who has designed Blue Sky Studios Characters as Kaiju and have them Destroying worlds from Disney, Pixar (including Cars), Marvel, and Star Wars (like Kaiju versions of Cretaceous and Maelstrom from Ice Age 2 attacking the oil rigs from Cars 2 and someone in the comments of one of his posts says to have Kaiju versions Diego and Sid from Ice Age attack Radiator Springs), also has done Jurassic Park/World dinosaurs in Horrid Henry's art style (which I would pull a Homelander and push Henry off the roof of his house) and a crossover series of Sym-Bionic Titan and Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken were they fight Sym-Bionic Titan style monsters based on Disney characters (which for the Cars characters I think they should be Bayverse style Decepticons)
Someone need to make a fan animatic from the scene where death is threatening John Lasseter especially how he’s responsible for the beautiful mess that’s cars 2
I wish everyone would stop moaning about cars 2 it’s a great movie actually

I may have a MASSIVE childhood love for both Cars and Cars 2. But John Lasseter is one massive pervert.
Agreed.
“Never meet your heroes.” I love that line.
Yet I do and I’m doing fine. Just not JL
He still could make better films than those fags at Pixar today.
You can‘t just hug people with daddy issues! That‘ll confused them and make them angry! He really should have known better!
@@speedracer2008 Hugging someone is not the same as forcibly fucking someone.
LET'S HIRE HIM!" do you think they are that stupid?
@@billyfranklin2117watch it pal! I hope you will end up in jail soon

Me too. It’s such a shame that he turned out to be such a terrible person.
Glad to know The Good Dinosaur was never gonna be good either way
yes, a very "ehh" movie
0:49, I had no idea that John Lasseter wasn't the head of Pixar, but rather brought on as an original storyteller. This guy shaped my childhood by having some of the best movies of all time with Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and yes, even Cars. But I guess that shows the inevitable dark side of Hollywood!
Don't worry, I like Cars too. You're not alone.
@TheDr502 Did you forget that John Lasseter and Ed Catmull had a hand in saving Disney Animation as well?
29:37 as of August it was announced to now be CGI as apposed to 2d and coming to Netflix in 2026
Pixar was my childhood. No films in the 2000's stuck out to me more than Pixar's. I consider Finding Nemo to be the greatest animated film ever made.
9:51 - 13:07 - 14:32 - 16:52 - 27:10 Man I Can’t Believe We’re Robbed!😞☹️
So basically this guy distroys projects that are made by passion and care and instead he adds pressure and outright distroys the projects
I really respect all the actors/artists that refuse to work for him after these awful behaviors came to light
Who reads Cartoon Brew?
"he likes children, especially boys" I'll bet he does...
Why do I have a feeling that JL might end up having CP?
@@Jonathanest90s because he's part of Hollywood and the majority of them do..

@@mattwolf7698 he's powerful, he works in Hollywood, that's all the evidence we need. it's almost impossible to get that level of power without raping and consuming children. it's a right of passage on the entertainment industry it's like getting an ID, it's required to get what you want, not always, there are rare, raaaaaare exceptions of people who achieved fame without drinking baby blood but most of them are either obscure, dead or carefully hidden.

Thank you so much for talking about this. It is insane how people can still even try to defend John for his terrible actions, even though they can do their research like you did and see if clear as day of what kind of a person he is! The mediocre content being made made by Skydance is just sweet justice, despite of what you think of Disney or Pixar in its current state I rather be this than what it would be with him still around
Wasn't Ed Catmull fixing wages so that artists couldn't get competitive wages by going to another company?

27:16 so you’re telling me that luck was actually originally gonna be a good movie about a war between Asians of good and bad luck and this all got scrapped all because John was jealous?! Yeah and I hope the storywriter for the original version of Luck will use that story for a new future original film
That concept for Luck sounds way better than what we got but of course John whined about it and changed it because of his envy for other people’s ideas.
