So I am pretty sure that the first toad that you found is a hybrid of a Southern toad and a Fowler's toad. We have a lot of cross breeding between the two species in the Carolinas.
@@juliusroman8616 Yea normally they hybreds have the Fowlers markings... Out on my mom's property she has 1000s every year. She has property that boarders a bird scantuary for the NC woodpeckers, so she has cool little critters all over the place.

Gotta appreciate the fact they have the best interest out for the animals they catch. Putting the frogs and toads back in safe locations, then the turtle further out so kids wont grab it.
I mean, she did also put a toad - which was pretty obviously a different species from the other one - in a confined space with a larger omnivorous animal despite finding it somewhere else entirely. And then did it again after it tried to flee from there. TBH this episode is actually one of the worst examples for this comment because it's the only herping video on the channel with this much seemingly random disregard for the safety of the animals involved and their own rules. I just have no idea why this episode is the only one where they've recorded themselves making meaningful exceptions to the 'put them where you found them' rule. It's like they were so disturbed by the presence of teenagers just outside of their own homes that they fixated on the threat they hypothetically posed to the animals while forgetting that predators exist.
I love seeing all the little toadlets! I live in NE Wisconsin and we used to get hundreds of tiny little toad babies hopping around our yard in early summer, but for some reason haven't seen them in years. It does make mowing the lawn a lot easier and...cleaner, shall we say?😅
When I was in college I always loved finding reptiles on my campus. One of my best finds was a broadhead skink during mating season. The males have these bright reddish orange heads during the breeding season.
I’m currently caring for a gray tree frog, he’s surprisingly easy to handle. His name is Houdini, and since I’m not tong feeding he can be released back into the wild.
Just because you didn’t ting feed him doesn’t mean you can release him? Never release pets into the wild ever. Not only for the fines and the ecosystem and the pet itself is just gonna die
As a kid in NC, I used to catch green tree frogs every morning in the summer bc they'd cover the front window of my dad's office. Some were SO chubby! They were adorable. lol
I visited Louisiana for the first time not too long ago, and oh my, Southern Toads are *LOUD*. At a place I stayed in New Orleans, there was a field and parking lot across the street in an otherwise very urban area. The males in the field/parking lot would randomly break out into a singing fight and wake me up throughout the night.
Those baby toads are the reason I'm not allowed to cut the grass anymore...my husband says I take too long because I constantly stop to save tiny toads and tree frogs on our 5 acres 😆 🤣
Here in Florida, we have cuban tree frogs and they've kind of eaten the green tree frogs, haha! I actually haven't ever seen a green tree frog here except in captivity. Cuban tree frogs are larger and rougher, and they are EVERYWHERE!
As a northeastern South Carolinian who lives in the suburbs nothing says summer nights like the calls of toads and green tree frogs, especially after a good rain. I could have that on a sleep sounds machine to put me right to sleep.
I wish I knew yall were coming down here.i love yalls channel so much and have been watching you for years. I have many reptiles myself and would love to start breeding corn snakes soon.
y'all should have gone to coastal carolina university in conway. there is (or was when i went there - graduated in 2014) a gator in the pond, fondly named reptar.
I love the UA-cam algorithm…. The post video advert for this was a recipe for Toad in the Hole… a British recipe that has nothing to do with toads, and is comprised primarily of sausages imbedded in a Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Also: as a not remotely native to America person, I love seeing all this wildlife. We don’t get stuff like this readily in the uk. We do get frogs and newts and stuff here, but not often. For me, herping involves trying to work out what the hell the dog found in the parents’ garden this time: to date, a trio of hedgehogs, a few individual hedgehogs (I know they aren’t reptiles or amphibians but they are damn cute) several frogs, a newt and a lizard of some kind. We have also found (and given a VERY wide berth) an adder locally to my parents’ old house, the only poisonous snake native to us here.
