The baby newts. It was fine that you demonstrated respect for your audience. Too many social media content creators would break the rules just for clicks. I love the ethics Ed and Emily always display on this channel. Much love , Emily your excitement is infectious so there are never any bad videos.
I for real didn't see the copperhead until you zoomed in! It's funny how a snake I've seen dozens of times in my life (VA) is a lifer for yall. They're beautiful!
I love copperheads. I think they're just beautiful. I also love cottonmouths because of how funny they look when they turn up their heads and stare at you. It's like, "I said good day!"
Same. Copperheads are one of my favorite north American species for sure. Some of the southern rattlesnakes too, like speckled and Dusky pygmy's, but man copperheads are so pretty and just unique
Well done, the video came out incredible. From the smooth transitions, perfectly placed voice overs and amazing edits. Also all of the facts are interesting info on all the species. It all came together great. Thanks for sharing guys
I love these helping videos! So cool to see the little cricket frog and cave salamander, and the baby newts were so cute! I had no idea juvenile copperheads had that brightly colored tail, either!
When I attended SIUC I traveled out to Snake Road almost weekly during the season. We often came out at midnight; it was the most fun we ever had! Thank you for the video, I haven't been down to that area in over a year, and I miss it dearly! This video made me go through my camera roll and reflect on everything!
might have to add my first trip to snake road 5 years ago almost landed me in the St. Louis hospital, those venomous snakes dont play, and I learned not too look at the dining hall menu while hiking the area.
I lived in that area for much of my childhood, but I only learned about Snake Road a few weeks ago. I'm going to have to go there. It looks amazing. As for my favorite, I love baby snakes and copperheads are absolutely beautiful, so that one ticked two boxes for me.
Honestly, I appreciate that you acknowledge and follow the rules that they set for snake road (and other places), as not too many youtubers really bother to do that kind of thing, so thanks!
Emily, you and Ed need to come to Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada. In June we have a place north of Winnipeg (88 km) called Narcisse that has 1,000s of snakes coming out of hibernation. It’s amazing to see the snakes balled up in their dens, mating….🐍🐍
I was sick with RSV for new years so I couldn’t see this video till now and I’m still a little bit sick but watching this video put a smile on my face thank you snake discovery! ❤
This has to be one of the most beautiful places you guys have visited. Kudos to Illinois for trying to protect their wildlife. Happy New Year! *Edit: Hi Jeff!!!*
Ed and Emily thank you both sooooo much for the videos and information you share. I have always been terrified of snakes, and with your help the terror is becoming respect and interest - I didn’t think it was possible. ♥️🐍
What beautiful country! And I love the fact that the road is closed four months a year for the reptile migration. The music was fitting; what a fun video.
So glad to hear some affection for the copperhead! They are very common here in NC, but most people react to them by going to get their shovel 😢 They get so much hate, despite being the least dangerous pit viper. But I love the little guys, and I think they are beautiful!
Where I grew up (in a community called Ryder Lake in Chilliwack, BC, Canada), there is a portion of road that has a bi-yearly migration similar to Snake Road, but they mainly consist of the Boreal Toads (Anaxyrus boreas boreas). Efforts have been made to spare the toads from what used to be a massacre of tens of thousands of toads and toadlets during migration seasons in which the road could not be seen for toads, and people would just drive over them. In recent years, tunnels have been constructed under the road to encourage the toads to go under the road instead of over... and a voluntary detour for vehicles. This video just reminded me of such a staple time in my childhood, and feeling like I was one of the only people who actually cared about saving these toads. I'm glad these guys have taken such extreme measures to save these snakes!
That threat display at the end was so cute! I think my favorite was the green tree frog. We have a lot of them where we live just NE of Dallas, TX. They hang out around our front door to grab bugs and small geckos that are attracted to the porch light. They’re so pretty!
I really enjoyed the music choice and volume and editing formula and overall vibe of this video. It was just very nice and comfortable exciting video! It made for a very very good watch. Thank you so much. It’s fun watching you get really proficient with your drone as well.
I almost picked up a stick with a Copperhead snake- I didn't see it until I was close enough to it and realized there was a snake on it. As soon as I saw it I backed away super slowly so I wasn't bitten. I grabbed my dad and he identified it for me. He picked the stick up with the snake on it and he carefully located the snake somewhere else where we and the snake was more safe. The snake was literally just a baby, it was so small and I hate to say it, so freaking cute and was so cool! I never saw on in person until that day and I was stunned how pretty that snake was.
Welcome to my neck of the woods! Snake road is fantastic and all snakes are pretty heavily protected just through our culture here in Southern Illinois!
I lived in southern illinois before moving to texas and this makes me miss the area so much! I frequented snake road quite often and it's amazing to see the diversity!
Even your ADR contains your classic excitement. Great job working within the constraints of the law, while still making an awesome vid. Love all of God's little creatures!! 😄
I've never heard anyone get that excited about a Copperhead! 😂 You practically trip over them wherever you go here in central NC, even during our mild winters. I happen to like them, luckily.
I like Cottonmouth because of their... white cotton mouth. I guess it may be an effective way to scare off birds of prey but from an human height or perspective it's just cute and a little goofy. 😊 I’d like to see you herping with Noah from NKFherping one day. He is from Georgia and always find cool stuff. Particularly when it's babies Timber season.
i loved it! The perfect cheer up for a cold winter day. Thanks for letting us know about such a wonderful protected spot. Seeing the newt next to Emily's finger. 😍
As a western washington native, the fact that ya'll are excited about a venomous snake right next to what appears to be a regular hiking trail is wild. I respect them, they're gorgeous, but if I saw one anywhere close to me in the wild I would probably cry. That being said... I really liked the tiny newts
Loved the video! I think you did really well with the way the video was filmed and the restrictions that you followed. Love that you all respect the guidelines and still try and make educational and fun videos for your fans.
This is always so fun to watch. I'm from Sweden and because of our location so up north we only have SIX types or reptiles, three lizards and three snakes (with amphibiants we have 19 total). The lizards are the slow worm ( a kind of leggless lizard) the Viviparous lizard and the Sand lizard. The snakes are the Grass snake, the Smooth snake and the Common European viper (which is our only venomus snake! but they are pretty chill for being spicy noddles)
I love how copperheads look. We actually have had one come slithering into my work place most likely chasing a mouse. Thankfully we saw him and safely relocated him back to woods next door.
I love all the animals (the venomous ones from a respectful distance. But the pattern of the copperhead was stunning, and the baby newts were so little!!! Thank you for putting your finger there for scale. Also, thank you for showcasing your ethics. Responsible herping, and also responsible UA-camr. Your video showed a respect for the rules of the area and gave educational info on all the species and the reason for the rules. ❤
So cool! The format was actually really good! Love the wide shots from drone. Yall did a fantastic job! I wouldn’t mind more videos like this Hope to see another snake road video in the future!!!
Absolutely loved this vid! My fav was the cave salamander :) As much as picking an animal up let's you get a good look at them, seeing all the footage of them in their environment was really cool as well. 😊
I went to grad school in Carbondale, which is super close to Snake Road. For the first time since finishing grad school am I wishing to turn back time so I could go and explore a part of Illinois I never visited. How cool a spot!
We weren't herping but off-roading in Texas in October. 1st night camping, our friend found a snake skin. It was almost 5 feet in length. Day 4 I saw a little garter snake. It was so cute to watch while we were stopped on the trail. Oh my goodness!! We found a copperhead while camping when our kids were little. It was in a crack on a huge rock that my son had just been climbing & sitting on top of. We went & got the ranger & he located the little guy.
So that's the trick to getting cottonmouths to display. Apparently don't touch them, just stare at them. Every time you guys have touched them with the hooks, they refuse to show off their mouths. You just stare at them and "AHHH! SCERRY SNEK!"
Who’s here in 2025? And happy new year! I came to your zoo in July and it was incredible, I flew from Massachusetts just to come! I love to watch your videos and I’m getting a snake soon! I do have some lizards like a chameleon and a few leopard and crested geckos,
I had a good laugh at your "no touching" meme 🤣 And of course, Emily is on top of the hill telling us who is afraid of heights below. LOL Happy New Year Ed & Emily 🥂🥠🍫🍬🍩🍪☕️🍀🐊🐍🦎🐸🐢 🦜🦜 Here's to everyone's Health and Prosperity in 2025! 🎉

I for real didn't see the copperhead until you zoomed in! It's funny how a snake I've seen dozens of times in my life (VA) is a lifer for yall. They're beautiful!
Seriously! I didn't either and i was really trying.
I’ve also seen several (TN).
I went back twice before I could see him before it zoomed
2 hour club 🎉
I didn’t see it either! Also I’ve only seen one in person and it was dead on the road…
If you ever get a Cotton mouth for your Zoo you absolutely have to call it "Cotton mouth Joe"😁
You’re a genius❤😂
Omg yes
I love copperheads. I think they're just beautiful. I also love cottonmouths because of how funny they look when they turn up their heads and stare at you. It's like, "I said good day!"

Wow I love how they put so many projections in place. Protecting native species is so awesome!
Love the addition of the drone for those beautiful views!
I noticed the drone in one of their videos a while back, I love it too!
I enjoy this format! B-roll with voiceover for this kind of thing is nice! Not that I don't like seeing everyone's lovely faces. :)
It is a nice change up
It felt like a nature documentary! It was a nice change from the usual format
Emily and Ed in the wild videos are my favorite!
I love these helping videos! So cool to see the little cricket frog and cave salamander, and the baby newts were so cute! I had no idea juvenile copperheads had that brightly colored tail, either!

Omg Jeff! It’s great to see him again. This is such a cool place, I loved seeing the cottonmouth’s threat display at the end.
Aww, I missed Jeff. He’s one of my favorites of your guests on the channel. Always loved his knowledge and sense of humor.
I lived in that area for much of my childhood, but I only learned about Snake Road a few weeks ago. I'm going to have to go there. It looks amazing.
As for my favorite, I love baby snakes and copperheads are absolutely beautiful, so that one ticked two boxes for me.
I loved the copperhead. I had no idea how beautiful they were and the fact that their tail is green when their babies is so sweet.
1:04 the way the road splits the trees, where one side is mostly green and the other is covered in snow just appeals to me so much
That's not snow, it's moss and algae on the water.
Honestly, I appreciate that you acknowledge and follow the rules that they set for snake road (and other places), as not too many youtubers really bother to do that kind of thing, so thanks!

Yes, it is so important to protect habitates.

Beutiful nature. A verry inviting walk. Love the copperhead.
That threat display at the end was so cute! I think my favorite was the green tree frog. We have a lot of them where we live just NE of Dallas, TX. They hang out around our front door to grab bugs and small geckos that are attracted to the porch light. They’re so pretty!
the baby copper head is my personal favorite, so clean~
The copper head is just stunning so beautiful and smooth I just love it!
Nice!! Glad you had a great herping day on Snake Road!
Happy New Year, Snake Discovery! Thank you for the awesome content in 2024.
I really enjoyed the music choice and volume and editing formula and overall vibe of this video. It was just very nice and comfortable exciting video! It made for a very very good watch. Thank you so much. It’s fun watching you get really proficient with your drone as well.
Sucha bunch of cuties, first Cottonmouths and then a cute juvenile little Copperhead. So adorable
SNAKE DISCOVERY IS THE BEST SHOW ON UA-cam!!!!😊😊😊😊
I love seeing the herping videos! I am a bit bummed it was a voice over and not commented on in person, but still enjoy it!

Happy New Years . . . the year of the snake!!
Have a happy new year Ed and Emily!
Welcome to my neck of the woods! Snake road is fantastic and all snakes are pretty heavily protected just through our culture here in Southern Illinois!

Happy new year from SA it's nothing like starting your year with a snake discovery video
So glad you all got to visit our area and see our local herps ❤
I like Cottonmouth because of their... white cotton mouth. I guess it may be an effective way to scare off birds of prey but from an human height or perspective it's just cute and a little goofy. 😊
I’d like to see you herping with Noah from NKFherping one day. He is from Georgia and always find cool stuff. Particularly when it's babies Timber season.
That copperhead was insanely gorgeous!! And those baby newts! ❤
I think I can speak for most of us here, we love snakes
Absolutely not
OHHH! That's kind of like Rattlesnake Point in Ontario! It's part of the Niagara Escarpment. Lots of snakes around there too.
That baby copper head was adorable, lil mans
i loved it! The perfect cheer up for a cold winter day. Thanks for letting us know about such a wonderful protected spot. Seeing the newt next to Emily's finger. 😍
Amazing video, what a treat ❤ the fact that the area is protected like this restores my faith a bit, as well 😅
ANOTHER HERPING YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSS THANK YOU
I loved the tiny baby lizards SO CUTE!!! ❤
Southern Illinois doesn’t get the love it deserves! I grew up there and loved all the places in Shawnee National Forest.
Happy New Year to Emily, Ed and all of the Snake Discovery team from Sweden 🇸🇪🎆
As a western washington native, the fact that ya'll are excited about a venomous snake right next to what appears to be a regular hiking trail is wild. I respect them, they're gorgeous, but if I saw one anywhere close to me in the wild I would probably cry. That being said... I really liked the tiny newts
My mother and I live about 15 miles (maybe 20) from there. I’ve always been a big fan of your UA-cam channel. Keep up the amazing work!
I am a huge fan you are definitely in my top five favourite channels ❤❤❤
I go here twice a year, every year!! So exciting you all went!

Oh, to be there. That’s just herping heaven😂🧡🧡🙌
YES! I love your helping videos we all want more more and more
You all did so well with this video! I’d love to see you all do it again as you said when it’s warmer. Also the copperhead was pretty cool.
Gonna be honest, i much prefer having you guys talk about the snakes on site rather than voice over, but glad you guys are trying something new.
I love you guys so much
You’re content always brightens my day
I think this is the earliest I've ever been to a video.
Same
Best time for me was 5 sec😂

Thank you for being such an inspiration to my 4 year old who now wants a blue gold and orange macaw named cheyenne and snakes and a turtle lol love it
I actually loved this herping format - it felt like we got a better sense of the animals' behaviors in the wild.
Loving the drone footage ❤
So cool! The format was actually really good! Love the wide shots from drone.
Yall did a fantastic job! I wouldn’t mind more videos like this

Happy new year to you both 🎉
okkk aerial views!! snake discovery has grown so much
