I guess they do not have depth perception, so, for them any surface looks more or less flat (they can’t tell the difference between the hole 1 cm deep or 1 meter deep). Does not mean they are unintelligent - just visually impaired.
Sometimes all my three cats will look at someone or something in perfect sync and just stare without blinking and it’s the most terrifying thing ever. Not in terror or rage or anything just blank stares and it scares me.

My leopard gecko is so dumb. We got her a playpen for her to run around in sometimes and when she went in there she was confused (Of course) because her area was not huge! so to try to make an escape, she thrusts herself into the wall. falls over and does it about four more times before I put her back in her tank. Not very high on the spectrum.
Leos have poor depth perception, which means that through their eyes everything is basically flat. If you use a loose substrate, even though the ground would be uneven, it would look perfectly flat to your gecko. This is also why many peoples geckos walk off tables. It isnt because they are dumb, it is just because they cant see that there is a drop there, or that through their eyes the drop seemed small enough to jump.

While leos are bad for this, arboreal geckos are worse. Especially cresteds. The thing is they like to jump and they are often apparently completely unconcerned about where they will land or if there is a place to land at all.

Yeah, I had a Savannah monitor a while back, and he would only come to me. He would hide if anyone else came into his room. Being able to tell the difference between one human and the next made me think he was smart. I figure we all pretty much look the same to him.

While leos are bad for this, arboreal geckos are worse. Especially cresteds. The thing is they like to jump and they are often apparently completely unconcerned about where they will land or if there is a place to land at all.

we had a full grown iguana for a while, my parents impulse got him, kept him in a 40 tank, which is not good. they only got him out once and my dad got clawed and tail whipped. they eventually gave him to a sanctuary, thankfully.

i agree with the leopard geckos, my gecko just stares at anything and anyone who walks into the room. he is constantly confused and no matter how often he sees me refill his water bowl he's always so fascinated by it.

I am in a leopard gecko group and someone had a bandage on her nose. Her leopard gecko didn't recognize her and gave all the tail warnings and kept a distance. Lol

Yeah, I had a Savannah monitor a while back, and he would only come to me. He would hide if anyone else came into his room. Being able to tell the difference between one human and the next made me think he was smart. I figure we all pretty much look the same to him.

My leopard gecko confuses my finger with worms 😂 Whenever I feed him worms, I point to them so he knows that I’m feeding him because he is still a baby, but he mostly goes to my finger first.
I have to do the same thing with my Rankin's dragon who's a year old now but won't eat unless I point at the worm 😂
