A long time ago, a friend of ours, Chuck, had to have major nose surgery due to chronic sinusitis and allergies and other stuff. Anyway, this was back when they carried charts, not iPads. So Chuck is in the recovery room and his husband, Mike, was leaning against the wall near the door. A nurse comes in with a chart. She glances at him, then the chart, and says "I have the wrong one, be right back". Meanwhile Mike is laughing hysterically. Apparently the chart had a huge red sticker that said "Watch for vaginal bleeding". Nearly 30yrs later and they still laugh about it.
@@miaolindias True, however if it’s 30 years ago it would’ve probably been more taboo back then and I don’t know how trans people would have been classed in hospitals back then.
My husband had his septum fixed 2 years ago now. It was the best decision he's ever made. He can smell, taste, and more importantly he can sleep. The best moment ever was he came home while I was cooking and asked what the smell was. He had never been able to smell my cooking before. It was life changing for him. So happy for you. The joy on your face after noticing you could smell is amazing! So happy for you!
This is a year later and Emily's voice is lovely and clear without the congested sinus/allergy inflection pre-surgery. And I think her new nose looks great!! Nicely shaped without radically changing her beautiful features.
Emily looks SOOO different with her hair back and no fringe! And ed has come such a long way, i remember when ed avoided being on camera and now he is so comfortable seeming!
I know, she seemed a little nervous to me pre-surgery, but she's such a teacher (maybe some parents are like this too?), she just embraced it being an educational experience 100%. I think if I was a nervous kid in one of her programs, she would be so reassuring all the time.
Seeing so much of your faces rather than just your bodies... you are *beautiful* people. Like I've always seen you two as I do with anybody else who is beautiful in how they care for others or the animals under their care. You are that, quite clearly, but you're gorgeous. Both of you. You have amazing and personable eyes and also just the clearest skin that makes me jealous. You two are amazing. Genuinely, in every way. I have no idea what your nose looked like before, however, because I was too caught up in how pretty your eyes were
I was confused about why you still seemed to be in recovery recently, thank you for the explanation! Your new mixed-media nose looks exactly the same to me, but I'm bad at details XD Also it is SO COOL that you've got some Carlos now.
I had my hearing corrected and my mother unfortunately didnt record me but i had never heard rain. It woke me up and i thought thousands of bugs were hitting my window. Congrats on the new nose and yes your nose is different its no longer slim
That's really cool. I've always loved videos of people who get their hearing or eyesight corrected and can experience parts of the world that they've never been able to before.
I know I've had deviated septum since I was a kid, but for the last... 15+ years(?) I've had almost constant congestion. In the last 2+ years, it's gotten really bad, and at one point had a 4 month sinus infection. Using a sinus rinse pretty often has helped, but honestly not as much as would really help me. Makes me wonder if there's something more significant that can be done
Your nose is so cute! I can definitely see a difference from beginning of video then jumping to the end! So happy that it worked for you and no more surgeries.
I had that surgery a couple of years ago. It made such a huge difference for me. I hope you get good results too. It keeps getting better up to 6 months later so be patient.
@@jaymiedivinagracia1977 I didn't notice any difference in my sense of taste. I use a cpap machine that goes over my nose so it was life changing to breathe better when I sleep.
it's just natural to talk about something you do a lot , taking care of snakes daily ofc even when u have no idea what's going on you would have snakes in your brain still if I woke up like that I'd properly tell my doctors how I gotta finishing grinding for that new weapon in the MMO I play , or maybe I'd talk to them about computer science and programming games . since I tend to work a lot on computers and also regularly play games xD
I am very happy for Emily that her sense of smell have improved, but for me the best part of this video is seeing Ed confident and seemingly relaxed in front of the camera. Well done. You guys just get better and better.
Yeah, I always was curious how long they've known each other. I think this means they've known each other for about 13 years. I know they've been married for 9.
Emily knew Eds dad first as a customer at the pet store she worked at. Then Ed came with his dad one time. They said this in a video a couple of years ago.
Queenbee is spot on, I literally just watched this interview/podcast an hour ago. If anyone wants to look it up, they told the story of how they met on an episode of the Port City Pythons Podcast.
I know the whole story has been done in a couple videos... Emily has said Ed was her first boyfriend, and they met while she worked at PetSmart. There's also a pic of the wedding in one of those- Cheyenne was the ring bearer and Emily's bouquet matched her 💙💛 I think the one video might be the one with the thumbnail "I worked in a cave!"
So interesting to watch! My son was born with a cleft lip and palete and he has a deviated septum also. He's looking forward to this surgery in a few years and finally being able to breathe through his nose. Thanks Emily!
A friend of mine went through that. Even though I couldn't really even tell the difference, it made SUCH a positive difference in her life! The headaches, back pain, how it affected her general mobility all improved drastically!! Taken care during recovery. You've likely got MUCH to look forward to after healing!🥰
I didn’t notice much difference in your nose, you look adorable as always! I’m glad the surgery went well and it’s awesome that you turned this experience into a reptile related experiment 😂 Ed also did a wonderful job on the solo video clips and I’m sure there was a lot going on behind the scenes while Emily was recovering, so thank you Ed for being there for Emily and all the animals!
Hmmm....that Sandman reference, all I can think of is Metallica's Black album xD "we're off to never never land!" Glad to see the second surgery went better. This is the second time in Emily's life where she suddenly had a sense that she had never experienced before. First she got glasses so she could see, and then she got surgery so she can smell. That's crazy
Ed: "I don't know who thought they smelled like Taco Bell, but they were going to the wrong place to get Taco Bell." I'm dying!🤣🤣🤣 Emily, glad your surgery went well and you can breathe (and smell) better. 😊❤
Oh my God, Emily I am right there with you. I had septoplasty in turbinate reduction, and now that I am six months later, I feel like I am needing it again….. I am right there with you, and I am looking at a second nasal surgery
I'm working on getting the same surgery as I have a collapsed sinus and deviated septum! Glad you got it done, I'm sure it feels a world better. Mine they'd probably have to break considering how crooked it is lol. And also, the Snakes don't have Feet joke is the best one so that's good lol.
Your nose does look a little different at the tip. So glad you can smell again. I bet food tastes so much better. After getting my tubes tied, I remember asking the nurse in the recovery what he enjoys doing and that he was a good person. I remember he was in school and I encourage him to continue because knowledge is forever. I also remember when they were taking me back, I didn't have my glasses and my doctor came up and I said, "I'll take you at your word because I can't see a thing."

I'm a weirdo so I like weird medical stuff. I'm SUPER impressed by how clean your incisions/stitches were. Kudos to your incredibly talented surgeon! All that aside, I'm so glad that your nose works better- for better or for worse.
Hi! Glad to know your surgery went well!! Thank you for being so awesome and inspiring! Also great job incorporating your real life to do a study about reptiles! Very creative thought process.
Your nose looks amazing, I can tell it’s slightly different. Just less of a crookedness to it. You always had a small nose but now it’s a bit smaller but very cute!! ❤❤
I had no idea that Emily had trouble smelling! She talks about smelling musk and the baby smell and when she opens up rotten eggs. This was really interesting!
it's more subtle, i think i remember it being brought up with some chocolate or something in one of their (many) fanmail opening videos. had no idea it was due to a deviated septum until now tho!
I'm a registered donor and I can't believe it never occurred to me before that my future recipients might actually want to know whose organs and/or tissues they have in them. I should write a little autobiography and have it stipulated in my will that they are to be given that document too.
I've had breathing troubles for many years now, and suspect I have a deviated septum, and will probably need some kind of surgery, and watching this video kinda worries me now, cause im worried that they might have to go as extreme as they did with Emily...
It would be interesting to get an update a few months later to see how your sense of smell evolves. I have a good sense of smell usually but I have lost part of it several times on and off because of sinus issues, and it's not unusual for it to take months to really come back. Also, since smell and taste are closely related, maybe your sense of taste will change a bit too! I've always found those two senses fascinating :)
Something I never understand is how foods meant to smell so horrible, are supposedly so good to so many people considering how closely smell and taste are.
@@CodaBlair it could be because people have different senses of smell! For example, I really like the smell of blue cheese and don't think it smells terrible (while other people do) so it makes sense I would like the taste of it, on the other hand, I really hate the smell of Sencha green tea and can't drink it, but I know plenty of people who both love the smell of it and the taste of it!
Whoever your surgeon was, they were a real artist. Those stitches were brilliant! Really fine work! You're going to have little to no scarring whatsoever, from what I could see! I hope when I go in for my top surgery, I get a surgeon as good as yours.
I was born with a deviated septum. My doctor said it was the worst he has ever seen. Happy to know you are recovering well and we can breathe better together!
Thank you for taking us on this journey I love having a look into your personal life!!! So glad you came through surgery sucks it didn’t work the first time so glad it worked the second!!!!!! Best part you bringing up reptiles while you come out of heavy anaesthesia just shows how invested you are in your life’s work!!!!!!!!!
Oh Owch, I feel for you- I had something similar with one of my sinuses and had a lot of stuff done to fix my nose and sinuses all at once including a septoplasty. Recovery is tough! My sympathies! But you'll find that with custom sinuses afterward, you'll be stunned how much better your immune system may work. I've turned out to be vastly better at dodging colds and getting over sinus infections without having to resort to antibiotics, even *with* my autoimmune issues. May you delight in freer breathing! (the No Feet joke is my favorite) Edit to add: As a professional medical patient, I can attest: THEY DO palpate people! If they have you lie down during a physical and kind of pat and prod your tummy that's what they're doing. Making sure nothing feels out of place or weird.
Thank you for sharing this! I'm so glad it all went well! Your fans love your videos not just for the reptiles but for you two awesome people as well, so thanks for the life update, and so glad to hear it went well!
I just can't smell. There's not any reason specifically, but I have no clue what smelling and tasting is like for working noses. I actually had a test done where the doctor made me sniff what was basically colorless markers and asking questions about them, like what one smelled the strongest, multiple choice what it smelled like, etc. I actually sat in a room next to the kitchen, in which there was a pot of burning bananas, for over an hour.
I know the song you said around 25:32. It was the theme song to "Hogan's Heroes" For those who are seeing this and don't know, it is a 1960s sitcom set in a German POW camp.
Congratulations on your new ability to smell, Emily, and I'm glad the two surgeries went well. :) My mother went through surgery recently as well and after your first surgery, when you were shivering in the car, you reminded me of her. I just wanted to give you a warm blanket and a big hug. I also called my mom as I'd been hit in the feels. I'm glad you're alright. :)
Thank you for sharing your surgery journey with us. One little note - musk turtles have glands where the plastron and carapace meet that produce the odor. It doesn't come from the cloaca like in snakes.
Good for you getting it fixed! I have cadaver cartilage in mine too. Being able to breathe after it being jacked up for so long is a weird feeling and takes getting used to (got mine fixed a year ago). Wishing you fast healing from Texas 😁
Emily, I ended up with a piece of bovine pericardium in my chest after my crush injury. I've had nose surgery 4 times, it's not fun but hopefully it will help! I still can't smell much because the first sinus surgery took too much tissue out, back in dinosaur days. Glad you're recovered!

I have been recommended to also have this surgery, but have been too chicken. Thanks to Emily, you have made it seem less scary, and manageable. Thank you for sharing your journey. 😊
Congrats on being able to smell! I had a similar experience with my eyes two years ago. My left eye was operated on first. A few days after the surgery I caught a glimpse of my blue car and suddenly I realized it was close to robin’s egg blue! The cataract had put a warming filter on my color vision!
TO BE FAIR, he could've been trans lol
Might be watching for that a minute lol
@@miaolindias True, however if it’s 30 years ago it would’ve probably been more taboo back then and I don’t know how trans people would have been classed in hospitals back then.
@@devanward7701 just because they weren't legally married then doesn't mean they aren't legally married now
@@juiceecads3894 I was thinking the same thing lol! His husband now, back then, maybe when they were dating or whatever lol.
So happy for you!
he smelled your cooking and got it reversed the next day
i'm sorry i'm sure its lovely i was just joking...
This is a year later and Emily's voice is lovely and clear without the congested sinus/allergy inflection pre-surgery. And I think her new nose looks great!! Nicely shaped without radically changing her beautiful features.
Seeing Emily so excited that she can smell better gives my life
Emily looks SOOO different with her hair back and no fringe!
And ed has come such a long way, i remember when ed avoided being on camera and now he is so comfortable seeming!
Right? The channel wouldn't be the same without him on camera now. He adds his own dynamic and sense of humor and he compliments Emily so well.
Yeah I thought she looked really different too! It's crazy how much hairstyles change your face (I know her face was a bit swollen from surgery too)
You could see in eds eyes how terrified he was while you where under . He truly loves you 💗 I love your relationship it's so beautiful
Emily is always so positive and upbeat which is what makes her vids so lovely and inspiring
😄😄😄
Your new mixed-media nose looks exactly the same to me, but I'm bad at details XD
Also it is SO COOL that you've got some Carlos now.
This is the first time I've read someone share their experience hearing rain for the first time. It's pretty cool. Glad you could hear it now.
I had a similar surgery to help reduce sinus infections, and it was a few weeks before my sense of smell was back to normal.
My brother also got surgery for his nose and his breathing went back to normal as well
I love how both times after anesthesia Emily wakes up and starts talking about snakes to the doctor
Your nose is so cute! I can definitely see a difference from beginning of video then jumping to the end! So happy that it worked for you and no more surgeries.
Emily's moment of panic when she thought she didn't know what banana smelled like 😂
I had that surgery a couple of years ago. It made such a huge difference for me. I hope you get good results too. It keeps getting better up to 6 months later so be patient.
Does it let you taste better too?
@@jaymiedivinagracia1977 I didn't notice any difference in my sense of taste. I use a cpap machine that goes over my nose so it was life changing to breathe better when I sleep.
Emily: "... a Japanese rat snake because our staff swears they smell like taco bell"
Me: "what taco bell has your staff been eating?!?!?"
How about Carter!
Perfect name.
I had a similar surgery 4 years ago. Painful but well worth it!
Glad it was a success!
I love how each time, the first thing she told the doctors was something about snakes 😂
it's just natural to talk about something you do a lot , taking care of snakes daily ofc even when u have no idea what's going on you would have snakes in your brain still
if I woke up like that I'd properly tell my doctors how I gotta finishing grinding for that new weapon in the MMO I play , or maybe I'd talk to them about computer science and programming games . since I tend to work a lot on computers and also regularly play games xD
@@CrimsonAkato I’d immediately start talking about dogs, if not my own dog 😂
One of my favorite parts too!!!!still passionate about her lovely snakes!
I am very happy for Emily that her sense of smell have improved, but for me the best part of this video is seeing Ed confident and seemingly relaxed in front of the camera. Well done. You guys just get better and better.
Anyone else smile at the confirmation that Ed and Emily knew each other since they were ~ 18, very sweet :).
Yeah, I always was curious how long they've known each other. I think this means they've known each other for about 13 years. I know they've been married for 9.
In the incubator video they mentioned Ed getting the chicken incubator when he was 15, and they already at least knew eachother.
Glad your second surgery went so well!! But I’d love to know what your taste sense is like now, cos part of taste is smell xx
As I watch this I am 4 day post op from my breast reduction surgery. I love doing experiments when life gives us changes.
A friend of mine went through that. Even though I couldn't really even tell the difference, it made SUCH a positive difference in her life! The headaches, back pain, how it affected her general mobility all improved drastically!!
Taken care during recovery. You've likely got MUCH to look forward to after healing!🥰
My good friend also just went through a reduction surgery! I’m very happy for you and wish you well!
I’ve always wanted reduction surgery but they won’t let me in case I have kids in the future 😑😑 (don’t plan on getting pregnant EVER)
wishing you a speedy recovery!
got the surgery myself a few years ago, was so worth it. wish they coulda taken it all but it definitely helped with the headaches
I absolutely loved the way Emily's eyes lit up when she smelled the betadine post surgery! ❤️
Having just been put under general anesthesia for a cesarean, I appreciate the post-surgery energy, Emily. Sorry it got rough on you!
Congrats, Emily! Glad you are doing well after your big surgery!
It's a bummer that Emily had to go through this, but her joy & excitement at her newly improved sense of smell made me smile!
Emily and Ed can make ANYTHING joyful and fascinating! What a gift that we all get to share 🥰
It is nice to see an example of a supportive relationship
Beautifully said!
Ed, we loved your filming by yourself, it was in no way terrible! Great video as always you two :)
Hmmm....that Sandman reference, all I can think of is Metallica's Black album xD "we're off to never never land!"
Glad to see the second surgery went better. You two bring so much joy and happiness into my life when I watch your videos. If I'm having a bad day, all I gotta do is watch a Snake Discovery video and everything bad just fades away.
This is the second time in Emily's life where she suddenly had a sense that she had never experienced before. First she got glasses so she could see, and then she got surgery so she can smell. That's crazy
Ed: "I don't know who thought they smelled like Taco Bell, but they were going to the wrong place to get Taco Bell."
I'm dying!🤣🤣🤣
Emily, glad your surgery went well and you can breathe (and smell) better. 😊❤
Yay for Ed! Thanks for braving the solo video clips for us! 😊 I'm so glad your snoot is fixed Emily! 🙌
Oh my God, Emily I am right there with you. I had septoplasty in turbinate reduction, and now that I am six months later, I feel like I am needing it again….. I am right there with you, and I am looking at a second nasal surgery
I hope it goes well.
I'm working on getting the same surgery as I have a collapsed sinus and deviated septum! Glad you got it done, I'm sure it feels a world better. Mine they'd probably have to break considering how crooked it is lol. And also, the Snakes don't have Feet joke is the best one so that's good lol.
OMG the Carlos part was very unexpected. JEEEEZ. I'm glad you're okay and that you and your/Carlos' nose are doing well!
I think they did a little esthetical improvement during the 2nd surgery. I mean why not while you are at it? :D
4:10 smell testing 10:08 on the way 11:13 there, pre-surgery 11:52 surgery done 13:12 surgery #2 14:51 surgery #2 done 16:37 update 18:46 stitches come out+ cast comes off 20:10 pt 2 of smell test 29:57 end🎉🎉🎉

I saw the thumbnail and thought Emily was eating a snake and freaked out. 😂😂😂😂 She would never I kept telling myself.
Emily, thank you for not eating a reptile.😅
I had my galbladdar out and had to have vein surgery done because I was unlucky enough to get lymphedema...After that second surgery my lungs filled with liquid and I was hacking and coughing and could not breathe. They kept me overnight. That was my first hospital stay.
I’m sorry about that I hope you are better now and
I ABSOLUTELY LOOOOVE YOUR PROFILE PICTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like how she is talking about reptiles even though her nose is really sore and especially when she sneeze 🤧 😢
I'm a weirdo so I like weird medical stuff. I'm SUPER impressed by how clean your incisions/stitches were. Kudos to your incredibly talented surgeon!
All that aside, I'm so glad that your nose works better- for better or for worse.
SAME!
Hi! Glad to know your surgery went well!! Thank you for being so awesome and inspiring! Also great job incorporating your real life to do a study about reptiles! Very creative thought process.
Well said 👍😊
Your nose looks amazing, I can tell it’s slightly different. Just less of a crookedness to it. You always had a small nose but now it’s a bit smaller but very cute!! ❤❤
I love the fact that both times Emily woke from surgery she mentioned snakes, very wholesome, very on par with Emily 😂
I had a “nose job” myself after a basketball injury at age 12. It made a huge difference! Congrats on your new ability to breathe!
This is a fantastic idea!!!
I’m a donor too and I’d definitely put that in my will if I ever die unexpectedly
They censor personal and identity information in letters. My brother was a heart doner when he died and we got a letter from the man that got it.
Thanks for sharing, This says a lot about who you are. Awesome!
@@jacksparrow4058 Yeah. There's also how people get used to the smells of stuff and so quit noticing it, which could be part of it.
@@CodaBlair it can also be based on where you grew up and are used to eating. One word: Durian 😂
hope you recover fast and well. You're so important to me and im glad you can finally smell with the rest of us.
I love how you guys can turn anything into a learning experience.
Whoever your surgeon was, they were a real artist. Those stitches were brilliant! Really fine work! You're going to have little to no scarring whatsoever, from what I could see! I hope when I go in for my top surgery, I get a surgeon as good as yours.
if your top surgery is scheduled already, hope it goes well and you'll be well prepared for the recovery period :)
Good luck on your no tits journey!
I was born with a deviated septum. My doctor said it was the worst he has ever seen. Happy to know you are recovering well and we can breathe better together!
This is such a wholesome video, especially how she gets excited that she can smell things and got them right ;w;
(the No Feet joke is my favorite)
Edit to add: As a professional medical patient, I can attest: THEY DO palpate people!
You've done so much to care for your animals despite your nose surgery. I think that is very respectable and awesome. keep it up and slay.
I need to get this surgery! I have no sense of smell since I took a book to the face at 12 :p I cannot smell anything and it would be so nice!
It is so good that you can still wear glasses or ounces it will be really hard I hope you are good without the surgery I’m a big fan
I’ve never realized how beautiful Ed really is until now! I’m so happy is getting more comfortable in-front of the camera!
Yea, he handsome. They're both good looking, TBH
Ohh god
Even if she is still not fully there after the surgery, one thing on her mind is "Snakes".🤣.
This Passion for Animals and especially Reptiles is why I love you guys.

I did notice a slight difference to Emily's nose a few videos ago and I thought I was just imagining things. So glad that the surgery went well and you have the ability to breathe more effectively!
You’re probably smelling things you never thought had scents! Congratulations again and thank you for sharing your rhinoplasty adventure!😊
So you're able to see color more accurate, similiar to glasses or just the colors became much warmer?
