When I first listened to this album, twice through with headphones, I loved the first half, then felt oddly underwhelmed by the second half. Liked everything I heard, but somehow it didn't stick with me. But then I switched to listening to the music on speakers and singing along, and I honestly find myself completely addicted to this album. I just keep looping it, and somehow it just keeps haunting me. Music often has to grow on me, and this album has done that. Get To Heaven had to as well.
THIS was my immediate reaction to the album. But I didn’t let it remain that way- after 5 listens, my expectations adjusted, and I reallly came to enjoy it. It’s not their best from my POV (one of the lower 3) but given EE’s discography, that’s not a harsh critique.
Spent the last week listening to the new record and while its certainly not a bad album.l I do get the feeling it was rushed. Cold Reactor is defintely the highlight of the album most of the others never seem to soar in the way past EE tracks do. Canary is a good example, I really like it musically until the 'plodding' chorus kicks in, its not bad just underwhelming. I can totally understand their predicament though and I do consider them one of very best bands of the last twenty years or so.
I agree on several points. Don't care for albums pushing an hour; would rather length be 40-45 minutes. I agree as well that they pretty much play it safe in regard to their sound and as a result the album can seem a bit less interesting. This album is a grower and not bad but could definitely benefit from being shorter in length and having a few more upbeat tracks. That's why Get To Heaven is held in such high regard, because of the amount of energy many of the songs have. That and it was such a fresh sound from their first two releases.
It’s definitely not bad but doesn’t grab us whatsoever in comparison to any of their previous albums. Shame, but we have hope they’ll be back to their best soon. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment🤝🏼
What is wrong with people's attention span these days, can't listen to an album that last 55 mins, really. It's a great album.
