Lol - bought it on the day it was released and It's Getting Better Man and Be Here Now are the only two songs I can stand off this now! They really grew on me over the years - same as Stay Young, the bside - probably because they are so upbeat, optimistic and sunny - basically how the 90s and britpop felt at the time (Oasis were always the best at capturing that mood!).

The song quality is noticeably worse and the songs (for some bizarre reason) just go on and on and on.....This album is like a party that no one is really enjoying. Empty. they've turned everything up and are trying to make it happen....but there's just nothing there.

I assumed the red telephone box was a DR Who reference.

Plus there was enormous hype at the time about this record that it couldn’t possibly live up to. Actually the critics immediately hailed Radiohead and “Ok Computer” released the same year as the greatest album of the 1990’s. So this album was fated from day one.

Unfortunately it was released the same week Princess Diana was killed in the Paris tunnel. So at the time it had a “party is over” vibe about it back in 1997.

The thing about ranking music is that it's completely subjective. I've never really liked Slide Away that much. I suppose that I don't generally like love songs. Live Forever is also quite a boring song, in my opinion. Whereas I love Columbia. I would put Slide Away and Live Forever below Supersonic, Rock n' Roll Star, Columbia, Cigarettes and Alcohol, at the very least. Maybe even Shakermaker. I also like Up in the Sky, probably more than Live Forever and Slide Away. Otherwise, I think you ranked most songs roughly where I would put them. I'm obviously just a cold-hearted person!

To each their own but they suck! The lyrics are truly nothing special on any of their four albums! Auto tune has really help kill the industry! To many other sounds, especially computerized & drum machine dubbing! They are no different than any other semi popular to mainstream, LIFELESS! They have zero heart & soul in their “music”! What I listed is why they have not been heard of by people outside of mainstream & the UK!

Sweeny "Takes a swing at singing"? He swung in Chavez! Also, Look into Emmett Kelly's band The Cairo Gang. Kelly is very underrated and has play with and supported a ton of artists.

I'm a Malkmus fan. Usually find a song or two to love on the recent albums. From Chartjunk to Shiggie to Come Get Me to Juliefuckingette. track is all harmonies after the first line. the guitar is chunky and uplifting. Feels like a love letter to life 20 yrs ago. I love this song so much. Has the same anthemic bones as a Destroyer drinking song on Streethawk
