Hopefully one day the hard work of these guys will pay off with more recognition. Very strong record in a pretty consistently good discography
I am physically unwell on the toilet but great review

Get well soon though!

I'm a longtime Everything Everything fan (since Arc) and I also feel this is up there as one of their best. They have such a fantastic knack for melody as of late.
More listens will determine if I like this more than Raw Data Feel or not, but it won't change how this album's still fantastic.
I have been completely obsessed with this album since its release, which honestly is happening less and less these days with new album releases. This is partly because I managed to see them in Sheffield in the UK (in a TINY venue) for one of their pre-album shows, where they played about 1/2 of the tracks. It felt very special.
I feel like with RDF and Mountainhead they have found a bit of that genuine magic again from early in their career, that for some reason they had lost after Get to Heaven. They certainly haven't put out anything quite this conceptual since GTH. Match that with the catchiness of the hooks etc. and, with the exception of maybe TV Dog, the album is no skips for me. I can already safely say it will be in my top 5 for 2024.
Right now I'm feeling:
1. Get to Heaven
2. Arc
3. Mountainhead
4. Man Alive
5. Raw Data Feel
6. A Fever Dream
7. RE-ANIMATOR
Really glad to hear your thoughts and I more or less completely agree with the review overall. Also the depth you have gone into with the lyrics is excellent and enlightening.
I'm glad I came across your channel and have subbed. To be honest I've been waiting for reviews of this one from the likes of fantano and professor skye, but now I feel like I've scratched that itch. Kudos sir
Absolutely exhilarating album from the EE boys. I think I like REANIMATOR more than most folks, myself, as I’ve overall felt the band has been on a really impressive streak, where only really A Fever Dream has been less impressive (and it’s still a good record), so seeing them continue what I’ve found to be a massive upward ascent for years now is beyond impressive. I found the hooks to be insane on this one, with some truly crazy lyrical content with a lot to say. Buddy Come Over is the massive highlight for me, with a build on the level of their best, biggest bangers and incredible drum work that brings me back to their drums on Arc. City Song is a similarly beautiful song with a really gorgeously melancholic message and the merest glimmer of hope sneaking through too. The singles all were awesome too, with Cold Reactor outright deserving radio play plus The Mad Stone and Enter the Mirror being trapped in my head for WEEKS after hearing them. Really just another spectacular release!
I totally agree especially with Reanimator, Lord Of The Trapdoor and Moonlight are two of their best songs.
Been a fan since the pre-Man-Alive singles, so great to see you be into this as you’re a fan of both complexity and melody 👍
Get To Heaven remains their peak for me, but I agree that Raw Data Feel and this new album are an amazing renaissance - I thought they were starting to lose “it” on Re-animator. The guitarist getting into production and building his own modular synths is maybe the best thing to happen to the band.
Seeing them in Glasgow later this month!
I just went to see Everything Everything live in Sydney. There is only one word for hearing them perform the singles from this album played live: colossal. Mad Stone is *completely* different live to on record. On record it is beautiful and bouncy. Live, the chorus rocked me to my core. I love this band, but seeing them live helped me understand that they are not simply making songs but a sensory experience. It is what distinguished them from the Vaccines, who preceded them at the show. The Vaccines were performing songs - and it was fun and jaunty. EE made something altogether larger and richer in its appeal. It was physical, not just sonic, it was eerie and catchy and ethereal and powerful all at once. Afterwards, I decided that if they ever tour through a city I live in again, I will buy tickets for all of my friends and insist that they come.
Amazing analysis. However you didn’t include “don’t ask me to beg” in best songs so I left a dislike. Do better next time.
SO TRUE
Mark not putting "Wild Guess" in best songs is even worse. How dare he?!?! Unscrubsibe
DONT ASK ME TO BE-BE-BE-EG
lol Brad, its always a nice feeling to find your name under stuff I like. It gives a good sense of community :D Although I never would've thought you would actually care for this album all that much, especially to watch a review of it, pleasant surprise. Although you might just be homies :p who knows
i did not expect you to listen to this but huh,,,,
I honestly think their last 3 albums have been the best they've ever made. The new one is an incredible listening experience. Having listened to it twice a day for the last 2 weeks (if I start the LP when I start my commute, it finishes as I enter my workplace or home) I'm still hearing new details and my favourie track is changing almost daily. I'm amazed that they can create something so new and fresh sounding 7 albums in. They're the most interesting band on the planet for me in 2024 and nothing else I'm listening to even comes close.
Wow Mark! I really, really appreciate the sheer amount of knowledge in this review (down to knowing the band's comment that YMMS reminded them too much of chili peppers).
Even as a huge fan of the album, I was really enlightened by your interpretation of Your Money, My Summer being about the upper class/those who have summited the mountain and your other comments about Canary and R U Happy? were very interesting as well.
As a Raw Data Feel and Get to Heaven fan, I'm loving the album a lot, and I feel like there's always more to get from each listen, whether it's intricacies in the storytelling, the production, or how it relates directly to my life.
Get to Heaven is still my favourite from them, possibly in part because it was their first I came across, but I think this is making a case for second place. If for no other reason it might be the easiest to recommend to other people. It's obviously melodic and catchy and the general sound palette is closer in keeping with the 80s pastiche that's still ongoing right now, though it is closer to New Wave than nu Disco.
What a very literal album title
The album is straight fire. This band does not miss
Great review! This album’s been on constant rotation for the past week, it’s definitely up there with Get to Heaven. With time it might even surpass it for me.
Their best since Get To Heaven
Great review. It’s crazy to hear an American even refer to Ronnie Pickering..
Great review!
Thanks for this review!!!
I will admit this one didn't resonate with me at first, but it has grown on me quite a bit. I'd say it's their third best overall as I still like Get to Heaven and Raw Data Feel a little more overall for the moments each does right.
Did not expect to love this album as much as I did, even though I thought all of the prereleases were amazing. Top 5 of the year already.
Seems like the general consensus here is that RE-ANIMATOR and A Fever Dream weren't as good as this new album and Raw Data Feel but I can't say I agree. RE-ANIMATOR gave me huge standouts with Big Climb, Violent Sun, and especially In Birdsong...A Fever Dream is home to other staples for me with Night of the Long Knives, Run the Numbers, and my personal favourite EE song, Good Shot, Good Soldier. Meanwhile I find these past two albums to be a bit overstuffed and while some good songs, nothing's hitting me like the favs from those older albums.
I've been a fan of these guys since i first discovered Get to Heaven all the way back in 2019 and that album still remains my favourite from them (not a big shocker). With that said, man is this album good. After Re-Animator came off as slightly bumpy, Raw Data Feel was just what the band needed to get themselves back on track again (i share a lot of the same thoughts you do if it wasn't obvious) and this album very much keeps up the quality. Sure, it's more chill and polished than usual for the band but the songs are just too good to deny. Wild Guess and Cold Reactor especially being career highlights imo.
Personally I think Reanimator is a great album.
hi, die-hard everything everything fan who onboarded in 2016 with get to heaven. for me its in the middle of the pack; not better than the twin masterpieces of gth and rdf but def better than re-animator or man alive. i do miss the rock tones but ur analysis is great and def appreciated!!!!
Any other albums that have this kind of sound released recently?
DUDE IM ALWAYS SO LATE ON THESE
Enter the mirror is such a banger.

Well, the left wing nonsense that excites you in the lyrics is annoying to me but I'm eager to listen to this
