Thanks for watching! I've got one more grouse video filmed and then I'll be getting out on the ice! Who is ready for some ice fishing videos? What would you like to see me do this year? Also Happy holidays everyone!!
Hey I know everyone guards their grouse spots haha I’m finally back home and able to dedicate my free time to getting some birds. I’ve been having some trouble finding birds this year, a few of my go to spots are now posted or invitation only spots. I was wondering if you have any pointers or spots I could scout out im in district WMD11 (Littleton,Houlton, hodgdon area) I’m okay with traveling as well for some birds. I really enjoy your videos and has been my go to since I was deployed keeping my passion for the great north lit inside.
Love this vid along with all of your vids. Great shooting and great footage as always! More special when you go with your dad! Great memories are made forever. Thanks again Jess!
With that many birds around, you should take up the challenge of beating through the bush and kickin birds up in the air for some wingshooting and put your semi into full use ;) i used to walk the logging roads but have since started using a flushing dog and I see quite a few more birds now and I'm especially getting into a lot of woodcock in the early season which you would have around there aswell. I'm hoping to get a bit of footage this fall, either way nice video!
I really enjoy your videos and I also really like the hunting trips with you and your dad! Its great you guys are able to go do this together and you have great videos to keep for the memories for later. Have a great time fellas! Keep hunting and living the dream. Thank you for making quality. videos Jess. Thanks, Andy
Just wanted to say love the hat I won few months back wear it everyday. This vid got me in tears lost my old man last week we used to do the same stuff. Spend as much time with them as you can making good memories. Hope you guys have a great Xmas. Do you do any ice fishing vids jw? When it's time a smelting vid would be interesting.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the hat and sorry for your loss.. its nice to hear my videos in so way remind you of your time together. I recently lost my grandfather who was the reason i started making these videos in the first place so I know where your coming form. I do! Plan to start making some ice fishing videos in the new few weeks. Thanks for watching and merry Christmas to you and your family!
I don't know about other parts of the country but everyone i know in Wi. and Mn. considere ground or tree swating unsporting.. Of course maybe ground swaters pond shoot waterfowl also.
We did good both north and west of Edmonton .Lots of birds on oil lease roads .I put it down to the dry spring good chick survival. Lots of deer both mulies and whitetail this year .
My buddy and i was hunting the Bingham and Jackman areas for Grouse and we didn't see many birds. It was weird because all summer, I saw lots of them. Lots of vehicles running the roads. It definitely doesn't help when you got Moose, Bear and Grosue Hunters all in the woods at once.
My father and I spend a lot of time in the north Maine woods guiding moose hunts, I can say the last two years has been by far the best bird hunting I’ve ever experience in my life we would see 60 birds on a average day
Saw quite a few wood chickens on Williams Pond road a few miles up from Telos. Close to the western boundary of Baxter. Wanted to take em out but it was September at the time
Hi Jess, wishing you a happy new year and hoping the channel will grow massive this year. received my hat today, nice quality and comfort. I look forward to some great videos this year
Grouse hunting dried up here once the snow fell. A video of a hunt when they bud in the trees at sunset would be different. Thanks for the video. Great camera work and editing, as always. Wishing you and yours a great Xmas.
Tried to get out there the other day and only ran into two that saw me first. Never got a good wing shot but oh well. Winter is definitely a challenging time to hunt them
I am from Tennessee and we have a few grouse, but not in the numbers you guys have them. What state are you hunting in?You are so blessed to have that many birds,I mean they are running all over the place.Get out the fine flour and olive oil,and be sure not to over cook them.
I always preferred to hunt my ruffed grouse with a .177pellet gun, you dont waste any meat and you dont have to worry about picking out all the lead shot. Crossman 1377 at 600fps has a completely flat trajectory out to 40 yards before it starts to drop, just throw on a cheap crosman shoulder stock and upgrade to a steel breach so you can slap a scope on their and its a really decent pellet gun. Throw another $40 at it and get a 14" barrel and turn it into a carbine. Total cost of the gun and a few upgrades is about $180 if you get the extended barrel and $140 without it but they really do the job.
Beautiful video!, I'm on my 52nd season in Minnesota. I can't pound the brush like I used to but I still love getting out there and every time I go I see something new. One thing I've noticed is there's more and more signs in the middle of nowhere telling you what you can't do. It's getting a little sickening Minnesota DNR could be cut off at its knees and still have too many employees
Shooting Mr. Ruff.... Beautiful game bird on the ground.....!!!.....Come On guys.....make it sporting.... Use a 28 guage shotgun.....FLUSH THESE BEAUTIFUL UPLAND FAME BIRDS....LET THEM HAVE HALF A CHANCE..... THEY DISSERVE OUR UTMOST RESPECT / LOVE....FOR HUNTING IN THE GREAT 👍 OUTDOORS OF AMERICA..... !!!
Try actually walking in the uplands with a steady to wing & shot bird dog 🐶 ! It points the bird using it’s Sense of smell , you walk in the area the dog is pointing. 99% of time you won’t see the bird on the ground before it flushes it’ a thrill ! 1 bird 🐦 per 8 flushes is considered better than average! The king 👑 of upland Game birds 🦅 deserves more Respect than to be shot off a road on the ground or out of a 🌳 ! That would be considered unsportsmanlike conduct for a true sportsman !!!
Absolutely, up here in scandinavia u would loose the hunting license, your gun and get a big fine if u hunt from a vehicle. Personally I like that, there is no respect for the bird too shoot it from a car when they dont even understand ehat a car us and therefore it is too easy and no effort is needed 🤷♂️
Omg! You shoot grouse on the ground, what a shameful disgrace. Game birds with the exception of turkeys should be shot on the wing only. There is no sport or honor in shooting a bird on the ground. You should just get a chicken from the store and shoot that, same skill requires.

My favorite round the famous 20g can't beat that gun for birds
My .410 bore. Perfection . . . .
What's with all the ground sluicing?

Where can I find a GPS like the one you use at 3:58?
I cant recall the name of it its an app for an ipad. My dad love it and has been using it for 5 or so years. Hopefully he sees this
I guess Maine grouse don't know how to fly.
Where in Maine allagash?
Amazing video love the grouse and hunting with your dad videos. Not only that but amazing way to end my birthday
Happy belated birthday! Glad you enjoyed the video and hope you had a great day!

Wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years, Covid free with a lots of nice adventures.

Great video..keep em coming.
Merry Christmas Jesse and family
Merry Christmas to you and your family as well Bobby! Hope it was a good one and happy new year!
Merry Christmas!! I enjoy your channel southern Maine here.
Glad you like it, and marry Christmas to you and your family as well
Lucky you and great video as usual! Here in Quebec the temperature + icy snow makes the access to the hunting areas not so fun
Here too unfortunately very hard to go after them in the snow but I’ve still got out there to try a few times
Love your vids. I sure miss grouse hunting!
Me to cant wait for the season to start back up

Dinner is served!! Does grouse taste like quail?
So how do you find public places to hunt? And how does it work when you have extensive private property?
We have the North Maine Woods (3.5 million acre wood lands) that's partially public and private but is open to everyone
@@MainelyOutDoors very nice. I cant wait to head up there. And all i need is my license and that's it ?
Whole different experience hunting ruffus bonasa compared to Rufus umbellus. Bonasa is in Maine, umbellus is in Connecticut
Awesome video! How far up have to go get into alot of birds?
Awesome man

Awesome! I was watching your video to see how to edit my grouse hunting video. This was better!
Nice videography. Love the slide guitar too.
Thanks!
Love the videos!
Thanks!

What is your favorite size shot for partridge? (Ruffed grouse)
I personally like 6 shot helps bust through brush in the early season but 7 1/2 is fine too
Man! What are you guys shooting! 3 inch 10 gauge shells?
#4 3inch magnums 10 gauge my fav for grouse

I have the same shotgun,winchester 1300,but it's not checkered.
Been a great shotgun for me
I really like mine , it has screw in chokes, best day was 16 rabbits ,no dog
Grouse that is
Are you really shooting those birds on the ground.
Not much of a challenge in that
How about out of state hunters are they allowed to come in and shoot birds
Of course
Yup, just got to buy a license
You should have included a picture of the rock that looked like a rabbit....
FYI... saw a small grouse this morning on a back road. Initially thought it was a morning dove. (Ripley, ME)
I should have! I didn’t film it at the time didn't think id use that bit but decided to throw it in later
Non pensi che con un buon cane da ferma sarebbe piu divertente
Guys who ground pound birds get booted from our camp.
Sounds like such a fun camp
@@406bullrider5 It is...we all enjoy being sportsmanlike.
Ground swatting is MAYBE ok for a kids first time!
No challenge shooting birds off the ground!
Or out of a 🌲

It is illegal to shoot from a car here, as well.
Must be on foot. . . . .
@@fjb4932 same shit if u use the car for finding the bord and just step out of it to shoot 🤷♂️

Ground swatting grouse … lame ;)
You’ve obviously never hunted Maine most partridge are shot on the ground in Maine
Started out great, until I saw you simply ground swat birds.
Shooting grouse on the ground isn’t sport. Quit doing that.
Ground pound em... get a dog and walk em up... no sport in this whatsoever
This is one of the worse, And why sportsman gets bad raps. Because this is not sportsman at all. Hunting has a code of ethics and this ain't it.
Pinky’s up
Typical unethical Maine grouse hunters shooting birds on the ground or sitting on a branch.
They need to step their Game up ! Those guys would go hungry if they had to hit one on the wing 😢
