Merry charismas everyone! Figured the best thing I could give the subscribers of channel is a new video finally! Today I head out to hunt a new location for ruffed grouse and ended up finding grouse everywhere! Plenty more come from last season. I’ll have more hunting videos out soon. Also, we are now offering guided trips for both fishing and hunting for the 2023 season. Spots are limited so reserve your dates soon! Find out more information here - www.mainely-outdoors.com/service-page/guided-grouse-hunt?category=e5a6b36e-a178-4306-b602-28316031ae79&referral=service_list_widget
Man you are so lucky. I love hunting these birds but they have all but disappeared here. Here we had kind of an agreement to only shoot birds on the fly never shoot one on the ground. It made the hunt more challenging. I also noticed that you have a lot of the gray phase. I have never seen one except in pictures. Here all the ones I ever bagged were the brown phase.
Great video! Just learnt about your video from watching Joe Holland's fishing clinic video and he mentioned Partridge and Grouse. I used to pheasant hunt years ago I may have to look into a grouse guide day. Keep up the great work.
Awesome young fella👍 I love grouse season , I use the tail feathers for my crafts & shotgun casing for accents on my log crafts 🍁 73+ Manitoba hunter expat
Always cool watching someone hunt something really similar but different. We have dusky and sharptailed grouse here in western CO and its cool seeing a different type of grouse. Really gotta make a trip out there for those beautiful birds. Keep up the great work!
Keep up the great videos! Glad you are back in the saddle for some uploads! Would love to go out to Maine for some grouse hunting. Do some here in Wisconsin with my dog Maybe one day you could guide for us out there!
Great to see another video from you. Since I put my last bird dog down a few years ago Maine wasn't in my future, but seeing this video has me missing Maine and a 2023 trip is now in the works. Happy New Year.
Sorry to hear about your dog.. Thats a hard loss. Hope you do get to make a trip in 2023 so long as we have lots of snow the population will hold up very well for next year. Happy new year!
Mainlyoutdoors, I have just a few simple questions and they are , what size shot do you prefer ? and why do you not carry a game bag while walking ? Thank you for the outstanding videos.👍👍👍🙏🏽🇺🇸✌🏻😎
Hey....glad you're back at it. Grouse numbers look good up there again, keep them coming. Life tends to get in the way sometimes, no big deal. Happy holidays.
What a great video. I've been looking for some type of educational grouse hunting videos. Nobody around he grouse hunts. How far will a grouse fly after you've flushed it?
Awesome video on a side note I’m a very avid fly tier always looking for game bird skins do you ever sell your harvested bird skins if so I’d be interested no wing shot birds tho lol that’s where some of the best feathers are
I would say 90% of the grouse I’ve shot in Minnesota have been the ground pound method. They’re to tasty to let them fly…. Lol Maine looks awesome for grouse hunting would love to try someday.
What's your thought on grouse this year? Extremely wet spring n summer. Usually i find that's really hard on nestings. Hopefully it's not too much of a skinny season this year?
Nice.If I told everyone what I had killed with my model 1300 12 guage, they would be me.But I had that gun 21 yrs,and sold it for the same amount I bought it for.200 dollars.
@@MainelyOutDoors My favorite gun of all time is the Browning light 12, Belgium.I also have hunted with the sweet sixteen Belgium browning, improved cylinder.I come from a family of 14 and most of us bird hunted until we were in our 50s.When I turned 55,I laid my guns down, forever.I see the beauty in animals now,and as long as I can feed myself from retirement,I will continue to not hunt.Ya,woodcock,Wilson snipe, bobwhite quail, grouse, all upland species,we used to hunt. But the bobwhite are gone, due to all crops being poison to eat by animals.Love your videos.
@@MainelyOutDoors A great gum you might consider would be the franchi light 20,improved cylinder.Twenty guages are great because they don't destroy the meat as bad as a 12 guage.Happy motoring.
I like that! never heard that name for them. Might just start using it. He's good he'll be in some of the upcoming videos. He had a great season out there!
Wow, I had no idea your limits are like that. They do handle hunting pressure very well. The added remoteness of your area must protect some populations allowing them to do a limit system like that.
Hey Jesse! Love the work as usual, mainly out of bias since I’m a Mainer too lol, but also because it’s remarkable! If I might ask, would you happen to be in Ashland here??
We do things a bit differently here in Maine haha! This is a very common style of hunting here. That being said I hope to train a dog as soon as I can find a decent house in this market.
This is in Maine. Most these birds have never seen a human. They all flush in more hunted areas but if you head out into the woods they are pretty clueless around here. I've brought people out who only shoot on the wing and its sometimes a struggle to get them to fly.
It is like seeing an old friend after a long time.
Good to be back. Happy holidays!
Agreed, been a long time
Well done! Thanks for sharing. One of my best seasons again in northern Ontario. 🪶
Love partridge hunting, one of my favorite activities. Your grandparents house is still in the family.
Just stumbled on this video. Never seen a limit that easy in my life. Could hunt a week in KY and not see that many birds. Congrats
Anxiously waiting for your next grouse video

In western Alberta we limit out on spruce and ruffies in about 3 hours I love grouse hunting
Glad to see the new video Jesse keep up the great work.

Great to hear! Hope you have a good Christmas!
What a nice surprise on Christmas. Great video. I might try to squeeze in one more trip before the end of the year.
Best of luck! might be decent hunting with the recent rain we got

The best eating of any bird, period! 😋✌️😎
Nice !

Glad you're back man! Been watching your fly tying shorts but the long form videos are the best.
Me too! More creative freedom in making them too. I hope to find a way to stay consistent with both of them
Keep up the great videos! Glad you are back in the saddle for some uploads!
Would love to go out to Maine for some grouse hunting. Do some here in Wisconsin with my dog
Maybe one day you could guide for us out there!
Glad to have ya back!
It would be great to see a fly video using ruffed grouse. then fish with it is some sweet little brook trout.
I like this idea! Might just do this next season.

Glad to have you back, man.

Nice that your camera man was already out in the woods filming you picking up the grouse.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you hade a great Christmas!
I do have a question what choke and shot size do you think best for grouse?
Mainlyoutdoors, I have just a few simple questions and they are , what size shot do you prefer ? and why do you not carry a game bag while walking ? Thank you for the outstanding videos.👍👍👍🙏🏽🇺🇸✌🏻😎

Thanks! Will do! I have several more filmed. Happy holidays!
Great Video! Was that just a MOD choke or something else? Barrel Length?
I can't wait for ruffed grouse season here in #Maine
I don’t know where you hunt in Maine but it give an interest to go there
Nice!! When is the next video coming out?!
What a great video.
I've been looking for some type of educational grouse hunting videos. Nobody around he grouse hunts. How far will a grouse fly after you've flushed it?

Thanks Bobby! Happy holidays to you too!
Glad you’re back!
Missed ya man, merry Christmas 🎄

Merry Christmas to you too! Figured this would be a good gift
Merry Christmas and happy holidays! Now I wanna go back to fall 🍁🐦

When will the vinyl stone fly be restocked on your website
Thanks for the video
No problem! I'll try to have the rest out soon

The return of a legend
I would love to take my pup out where you're hunting, she would get LOTS of work. Nice video!!
That for sure. I'm hoping to get some dog training videos up soon. The plans in the works anyway
@@MainelyOutDoors I'll keep an eye out, love your content brother!
Love it
Thanks for the content. What area in ME are you in?
No problem! This is in Aroostook County where I'm from
Welcome back

Great video
Thanks glad you liked it!
Welcome back buddy

Nice.If I told everyone what I had killed with my model 1300 12 guage, they would be me.But I had that gun 21 yrs,and sold it for the same amount I bought it for.200 dollars.
They are very cheap but of decent quality. I've even taken down geese with my 20 gauge. A lot of it comes down to the rounds used, in my opinion

The old Browning's before 1980 were called the A5.
Thanks for the suggestion! I might consider picking a new one up in the next few years
Retriever 🦮
My favorite channel
the ''rusty'' very nice ! how is you dad ?
I like that! never heard that name for them. Might just start using it. He's good he'll be in some of the upcoming videos. He had a great season out there!
It’s been so long since I shot a grouse. I haven’t hunted for them in 20 years.
Well I hope you get to make it back out there David!
Not from Maine? In Maine we call them Partridge. We ‘still’ hunt them.
Can anyone exactly please wear to go hunt birds in Northern Ontario
Crazy I live in Alaska and if I see 10 grouse I can shoot ten grouse I never knew of anywhere that had limits on grouse
Wow, I had no idea your limits are like that. They do handle hunting pressure very well. The added remoteness of your area must protect some populations allowing them to do a limit system like that.
We could have Grouse like that in NC, but we can't cut trees anymore😡 I've jumped one in the last three years.
1000th like
Good video👍 I huntersto
You have to pick your shells up after you shoot the gun
Hey Jesse! Love the work as usual, mainly out of bias since I’m a Mainer too lol, but also because it’s remarkable! If I might ask, would you happen to be in Ashland here??
I hope the windshield story is in this video🤷🏼♂️
Its not that was just a rock that a trucker flung at me over the summer
Never shoot the cheerleaders, never paste the ground.
Hi Do you guys still interested in our sponsorship? Shoot you an email again^ ^
Uploading on christmas. Wise choice 😅
Merry Christmas!
I killed about 100 this year alrighty
"Today I head out to hunt a new lactation" An unfortunate typo.
lol 😂 thats pretty funny! I'm dyslexic and some times it makes for some pretty great sentences. Thanks for pointing that out!
Can't believe you are making grouse hunting videos and you're ground pounding them...
Well I’d suggest not doing it if you don’t like it. Not sure why people care what others do
You need a dog
I do! Its in the works. I want to get a house first, didn’t pick the best time for that but it will happen!
At least let them take to the air!!
This is my meat and tying supplies. I take them how I get them not much of a sports hunter
Not my kind of hunting! Road hunting no dog 🐕 need to get beaten path
We do things a bit differently here in Maine haha! This is a very common style of hunting here. That being said I hope to train a dog as soon as I can find a decent house in this market.
Your last video was on Christmas Day?! Come on man
Is this in Canada birds seem really tame
This is in Maine. Most these birds have never seen a human. They all flush in more hunted areas but if you head out into the woods they are pretty clueless around here. I've brought people out who only shoot on the wing and its sometimes a struggle to get them to fly.
I’m in pa not really supposed to shoot them on the ground
Little different up here. Unless you have a dog its hard to convince them to fly instead of running to cover.
Great to see you back!
