The V-Wing is a tragically underrated ship in my opinion, deserved far more screen time. Anyone who saw my 'Top Five Fighters' video will know this is one of my all time favorites.

I recall trying to work out the stats from the cross-section books written by Curtis Saxton, so I figured the V-Wing could reach 167 MGLT going off Saxton's earlier references. I guess that's all been retconned now.
The V-Wing was a excellent ship. If I was a Admiral before they were phased out I would’ve preferred to use them over Tie-Fighters in my fleet.
Agreed. V-wings are 1,000x better than tie fighters. Exceptional interceptors that can do the same job but better.

I had both Lego sets of the V-Wing and ARC-170.
This is why the prequels shouldn't be overlooked for inspiration for space craft design.
As much as I love Dave for putting the Z-95 as the main Republic Interceptor. I wish that he included V-Wing in Star Wars The Clone Wars.
Patrick Donnolley it might appear in the new season. The V-Wing was introduced in 19 BBY, the year the final season takes place. The Z-95 showed up in 21 BBY, which makes sense why it’s in the series. I’m really hoping too see it along with other prequel vehicles that haven’t been in the series. Those being the Homing Spider Droid, Halfire droids and a bunch of Republic vehicles.
I love how the V wing is a clear ancestor of both the X wing and Tie fighter designs.

The V-Wing is canonically the predecessor to the TIE Fighter and the Z-95 and ARC-70 are the predecessors to the X-Wing which was actually going to be introduced at the end of Filoni's Clone Wars.
Giving is a brief at one of your favorite ships in Star Wars is always a treat.
I have a Lego V-Wing sitting my bookshelf above me right now. Find it sort of odd that Clone Wars fighters have shields while the Empire opped out to not use shields on the TIE fighter.
especially because fighter pilots are the most expensive kind of soldier. You wouldnt want to waste those.
I got one too, but I took it apart for...well parts. Could put it back together but that would take a while.
The Empire had a "Ships for combat, air/spacecraft for support" doctrine. Basically the Ships would do the heavy lifting, while the Fighters covered them from attack.
Jacob Clark The empire opted for a more quantity>quality view. This was mainly due to the tactics of fear used by the Empire.
I had one too alongside the ARC-170.

The first time I was introduce to these was in the PC game Empire At War, Great game. They were used by pirates to defense their astroid bases.

So, the V-19 Torrent was replaced by the ARC-170, the V-Wing/Alpha-3 and the Z-95. It's understandable that the ARC 170 would serve with the other two fighters since it's a heavy fighter while the other two are light fighters. But that begs the question,why did the V-wing and the Z-95 serve together? AFAIK the V-Wing is superior in terms of equipment (astromech, shielding, firepower, secondary armament, etc) and both fighters are praised for their maneuverability so we can assume they're equal in that field. So why did the Z-95 still see service in the Republic Navy alongside the V-Wing? Isn't it redundant to have two separate light fighter models?
Felix Santosa the V-Wing was introduced later into the Clone Wars where they REPLACED the Clone Z-95 Headhunters.

The same reason the US had 30 jets enter service across the airforce, navy and marines over a 20 year period between the early 40's to 60's to provide the numbers needed individual companies just didn't have the production capacity. This is the disconnect between the world today and the era that created Star wars and trek when those franchises started new jets or ship designs entering service all the time was normal while today 10-30 years between new types is the norm.
I always loved this fighter, since the first time I saw it in Revenge of the Sith and Battlefront II. Back when ship design and succession made sense in the Expanded Universe, when they didn't just make the last thing bigger and better and call it a day.

exactly! As much as I love the old battlefront it just had so many inaccuracies especially with its vehicles.
Yeah, but that's the price you have to pay for PvP since you can't be too asymmetrical in games that aren't more math based, shame cuz a purely PVE Battlefront could have been god tier,
in this day and age a proper star wars space combat game could be made that has players go into matches being able to control entire fleets. Have roughly 80-100 players per match and have stations not filled by players be controlled by AI. We don't need every station on a ship represented but non auto turrets up to actually piloting the ship itself would be great along with having star fighters and bombers thrown in with escort ships also being player controlled.
It doesn't need to be balanced by being even. They can have proper in lore specifications for everything or as close as they can get and tweak numbers based on the factions fighting. The empire would have more powerful ships but would have weak starfighters and not as much as the enemies would have. Their goal would be to essentially brute force the enemy ships down before being swarmed.
it would be neat but not viable to many players per team que times would be horrible and it would have to be run on dedicated servers making it cost more,
A better idea would be a world of warships style game with players using anything from Star Destroyers to tie fighters,

I'm waiting for Disney to discover War Thunder, a semi realistic ww2 and Korean war vehicle based game, and apply that to star wars. I've heard the X wing and Tie series are the closest to star wars sims we have and I'd like to see a game that as more realistic controls, damaged models and ship behavior than other games in the marked. No Battlefront portraits ships in a realistic manner, shore BF2(2017) at least understands the ships have different abilities but the ships are so slow and maneuver in such a weird way I would never consider them a reference point so I would more than welcome such a game.
A Star Wars version of Arma would be cool too, and no I'm not counting modes I want to see something official.
This is the only starfighter in the galaxy that actually bothers to protect the Astro Droid.

V-wing and Arc-170 gave brith to twins: Tie fighter and the T65 X-wing but were seperate at birth they grow up under two different faction they grow a rivalry to each other even though they didnt know thier parents ( Arc170 and Vwing) fought side by side

I personally believe that the V-Wing was also the Precursor to the A-Wing, based on some of your key points of your description.
this is by far my favorite fighter design. a small fast and nimble ship that has a small silhouette whilst remaining flexible with it modular design and the kind of ship you would expect from a galaxy with that level of tech of star wars.
I actually find quite funny that, in star wars, the ship with the best layouts where almost always under powered (the V-wing, naboo fight and the tie fighter, some of the cis and moncalamary destoyers) for some reason and those with the worst where unbeatable behemoths (X wing, arc 170, venetor class and imperial class).
This thing is the Republic Fighter from Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron which is a great PSP Star Wars game that is flawed but endlessly fun.

I still don't get why it had all the designs of a TIE fighter except it's best aspects such as its landing gear, astromechs, shielding, and mobility.

honestly, if the empire kept the v-wings instead of tie fighter the first death star would never be destroyed since the v-wing is as maneuverable as a tie, it is faster, it is far better protected with shield and an astromech who can do minor repair, and it is better armed than the tie

Exhausting the navigation memory sounds strange. I don't know why the SW writer(s) responsible didn't simply say that the hyperspace ring only has enough fuel for 10 jumps. I guess that would have made too much sense.

Tarkin Doctrine demanded the Imperial military be built around intimidation, not capability in battle. TIEs were stupidly cheap to produce, allowing them to be produced in massive numbers. V-Wings... were still decently affordable but not to nearly the same degree.
The Tarkin Doctrine assumed that people would simply submit when faced with such numerous fighters backed by the shear firepower of the Imperial and Imperial 2 class and further supplemented by superweapons as a deterrent. It assumed that the people's fear would lead to submission, not anger and resulting rebellion. In short, Tarkin was a short-sighted fool who should never have been allowed to hold a position of power.
The fighter might be cheap but the pilots wern't, even an entity as large as the empire would see those losses mount up over time.
i think the tie fighter was decent for its time we shouldnt forget the tie ln was an aging fighter during a new hope and numerous projects tried to replace including the x wings. the rebels fid what they are best in Sabotage and destroying the Research

What is the deal with the V-Wing's S foils? In Legends, the classic Battlefront 2, and the toy I had as a small child, the wings folded forward towards the nose. In Revenge of the Sith and some scenes in Bad Batch, the wings don't fold and just rotate 90 degrees from vertical to horizontal. And now in season 2 of Bad Batch the wings fold backwards towards the tail. Can these guys just make up their minds already?!

One ship that never got its due. Too late to see mass combat operations, and a holdover that was eventually replaced by the TIE fighter.
