please take time to read this, it might help you my husband suffered from crohn's disease almost all his life and i can tell you that its really terrible, watching him get lean and pale worried me the more, he lost appetite, he was always and was unable to go to work again,he kept having sores in his mouth and the constant pain was making the situation worse. we kept going from one gastroenterologist to another, they were not helping the situation, they kept giving us different drugs and it was making it worse, they kept increasing the dosage, in 2016 when i went to cvs pharmacy to go and get another drugs for him, that was were i heard about dr folonsho a herbal doctor, who specialises in using natural roots and herbs to treat diseases and chronic pain. at first i was in doubt, because we have tried many options that were not helping and all the doctors we came across told us that there was no cure, and i believed, so i contacted this herbal doctor and he said he could help my husband, after i told him my problem, he said he has a herbal remedy that can heal my husband and reverse this illness completely and he will be back to his normal state of health, not having many alternatives anymore i requested for the herbal remedy, because the situation was getting worse, after using the medicine for about 3 weeks there was great improvement, and my husband was getting back to his normal self, its been 4 years now and my husband is still strong as ever, all thanks to dr folonsho, and may GOD continue to bless you, so if you are still sufferring from this disease kindly contact dr folonsho today either through email drfolonsho@gmail.com or via whats app +2348073410606 or you can check out his website drfolonshoherbalhome.simdif. com/ and you will be glad you did, i wouldn't want someone to experience what my husband experienced

This has made me so happy because it confirms what I thought. My Gastro put me on a low fibre diet because I have a stricture but I felt so rubbish on it, constantly hungry and my weight rocketed up. So I decided to cut out all refined sugars and processed foods from my diet and after a couple of months I felt amazing. So much more energy and I could eat vegetables that I previously hadnt been able to digest without pain. My symptoms were non existent and I lost ten kilos in weight over three months. I still can't go wild with it, but I have been able to re-include some foods I couldn't previously eat without pain, and this has helped me to feel better and increase my energy levels. Crohns is such an individual disease without a one-size-fits-all solution, so as sufferers we are all left just trying to figure out what works best for us. This is a great video that also looks at the effects of the environment on the occurrence of the disease.
God forbid we discuss the true nature of the disease and stop the perpetuation of the disease thru preventative measures rather than allow the disease to become more prevalent and just rely on expensive treatments that need to be administered on an ongoing basis.
The current approach or emphasis in the medical field is to raise awareness of idiopathic chronic disease and push expensive maintenance drugs that need to be taken on an ongoing basis

My dental hygienist said her mom was diagnosed with Crohn disease when she was in 20's. Her doctor said she is CURED from Crohn because she doesn't have any symptoms for such a long period of time after stopping her medication.
Her mom changed her diet and exercise regularly.
Many GI doctors say eating seafood and fish, garlic, onion, beans, banana, apple(Do not remove skin of apple), broccoli, leafy vegetables....etc. FEED GOOD BACTERIA in GI tract.
Many studies show that eating sugar feeds BAD BACTERIA in GI tract. Doctors said sugar is food for bad bacteria and cancer. Be careful with many hidden food additives and sweeteners such as Maltodextrin and emulsifiers which can cause leaky gut. Many doctors said leaky gut can cause Crohn disease. I was just diagnosed with crohn's disease after years of suffering and the vegan community telling me I have fruit belly or my body was detoxing. Each to their own, I think it comes down to you personally and your microbiome, to our family certain plants are very very inflammatory, grains are a hard no, along with legumes beans, tomatoes and some nuts - even those are tough as they are contaminated with other nuts, dairy or cow dairy also. Meat and fish works, preferably with pasture or wild raised animals.
Lots and lots of Bone broth Meat or fish, every day and we're as happy as larry, whoever he is,
For those of you suffering you must look after your microbiome, you need to seed it and feed it, soil based ones work for us, water kefir if you can't have dairy, we like coconut but it's not for everyone, find what works for you and you alone, in our family we have celiac, IBD, RA and MS, the things above had made all the difference, annoyingly it's different foods for each of us, wish you luck xxx
PS. The study above is also sponsored by VegFund, it may be slightly skewed towards that, who knows

Great points here. I’ve had Crohns for 26 years and can attest that a plant based diet even if it “works” would not necessarily be the healthiest way to go based on chemicals in plants that are present naturally and placed by man.
The key is Whole Foods, pay attention to chemicals and ingredients. I eat no sugar, no starch, no seed oils, no processed food, period.
I eat good grass fed proteins and practice intermittent fasting and I’m in excellent health at 51.
By the way, on your point about the sponsor of this study/video…soot on and a great reason to do other research and look for info not connected to special interact.

Doesn’t work for me, I have tried all the eliminations diets. Had this disease for 29 years, plant based causes excess pain with my inflammation. My Crohn’s is moderate to severe. So when my Crohn’s is bad, I have to cut out all fruit and veg and stick with carbs, once I’m settled a bit I know I can introduce certain veg and fruit. I have to be careful with seeds and grains as they can get stuck in the area of my bowel where I have a stricture, and that’s not fun. Meat doesn’t worry my bowels at all, neither does chocolate thankfully. I just hope one day we can find out what causes the immune system to attack what appears to be healthy bowel, and we can treat the disease and not the symptoms. Immunosuppressants are not fun to be on, but having full on inflammation is worse.

One person has become vegetarian but not vegan: I sometimes feel Indian vegetarians (20 to 30 per cent of the population, not the 70 or 80 percent people imagine) might be having more animal food than non vegetarians, obsessed as they are with paneerpaneerpaneer (firm dairy cottage cheese) out of a paranoia about proteinproteinprotein and also other dairy products, extrenely highly regarded here. The diseases remain. Oh well. I shall share this video for what the sharing is worth. Thank you for a good video that explains well.

I used to eat a high fibre, vegetarian diet, and had constant problems with gas and bloating.
The diet wasn't working for me, and I was forced to experiment with other things. Surprisingly, it was a high fat animal-based diet that gave me the most relief. Now, I eat mostly meat and animal fats and have zero digestive issues.
The tricky thing about the research in this video is that it's hard to separate out the people who eat animal foods but don't eat junk food as well. Most people who eat animal fat and protein also go for fast food regularly, drink soda & alcohol, and eat snacks very high in processed sugar and processed seed oils.
Animal foods are very low in fiber, which I've actually found to be the best thing for my gut. I know that some research might disagree, but there is other research looking at (a healthy version of) animal based diets and seeing good results for Crohn's patients. It also worked for me, and to be honest, saved my life.

I only created the video from the talk, but my understanding is that it is a question of amount and frequency along with any other contributing factors, and also sensitivity to it. Maltodextrin is added to many ultra processed foods, in which also may have other ingredients that provoke the condition, such as emulsifiers that effect the water/oil transport through the gut lining causing an inflammatory response.

I'm sorry to hear that. I think the aim of this presentation by Alan is to help most people, but sadly not all. However it may slow progression of disease, that is commonly brought on by our modern diet. You could try plantbasedhealthonline.com/services . PBHP hosted this talk and they are great people. You could also try a food diary and see if there is any pattern. Olive oil is seen as good for the gut by some, but along with other oils, inflammatory to others. Then I've also had conversations with a guy who ate raw food for years, he struggled with beans and pulses, which for me is my staple. He found lighter coloured beans and adding baking soda in the cooking helped manage it better. I hope you find your way to remission

For the longest time I couldn't figure out why I'd get so sick after eating an apple with almond butter! This is why! Omega 3 should an equal ratio to omega 6 whenever possible, or just eliminate the foods high in omega 6 altogether, and load up on food higher on the omega 3 index-chances are they will have some omega 6 in them so you won't be totally depleted of it. So far as I've gone through the early and painful stages of crohns disease is to avoid: fried food, fatty meats, cured and processed anything with the exception of fruit preserved in its own juice, raw sources of fibre such as just eating a raw broccoli on a ranch tray, cooked vegetables seem fine. Anything corn is just called evil. For some reason suarkrout is always listed as a big no no :(. I won't miss dairy much but everything I've read says to avoid it.
In other words if you cook it yourself with stereotypical wholesome ingredients that are cooked I'll probably be fine. But when I consider I work 60 hour weeks often far from home and the average ingredients list for pre made store bought foods looks like a research paper on artificial sweeteners and preservatives......
    This going to be hard

Eating foods that cause inflammation to the membrane, could lead to more problems in the future. A patient that has had some of their bowel removed, might need to include more "green smoothies" in their diet, as they are more "pre-digested" and so easier to absorb.

I don't currently have a stricture but as with most people that I know that have Crohn's - how do you eat all this veg when your body just rejects it and sends it straight through? Any veg aside from sweet potatoes runs right through me causing extreme pain and urgency. I'm going to try starting with well cooked and peeled mashed veg (carrots and maybe zucchini - tried cooked spinach, not a good time), and green smoothies as recommended.

The importance I got from this is fiber is needed, from fruit and vegetables. Not everyone is cut out for vegan diets, some of which protein from vegetable sources are much harder to digest. I personally have hard time digesting protein anyways from not making enough pepsin, eggs saved me at one point. For me no wheat(minor wheat allergy not gluten), limited rice(spikes blood sugar), those are empty calories anyways, potatoes at least give me potassium. Extra virgin olive oil for everything. No coffee, the bowel speed up causes havoc.
I take at least 4 fish oil pills a day, at least Now brand or better(think I got some heavily oxidized off brand ones made me worse). I eat eggs, chicken, beef(literally crave beef sometimes), turkey. Apples, kiwis, onions(can be a trigger), carrots, broccoli, peppers. Tea, chamomile, spices. Ton of vitamin c upto 3000mg a day, not all at once.
Start with things you know won’t bother you…and slowly branch out. Can’t remember write things down, even though I do remember I should write things down.

Many GI doctors say eating seafood and fish, garlic, onion, beans, banana, apple(Do not remove skin of apple), broccoli, leafy vegetables....etc. FEEDS GOOD BACTERIA in GI tract.
Many studies show that eating sugar feeds bad bacteria in GI tract. Sugar is FOOD for bad bacteria and cancer. Be careful with many hidden food additives and sweeteners such as Maltodextrin and emulsifiers which can cause leaky gut. Many doctors said leaky gut can cause Crohn and other disease. Mostly I have a bacteria overgrowth problem along with liver problem. Not even sure I have actual Crohn's as in my body attacks itself. Just major inflammation problems. And talking with my parents diets as kids and problems they had with diet. Father ate potatoes with every meal. Potatoes are a daily must for me. Along with enough salt, salt helps immune system get rid of infections body collects salt around wound sites(studies about this). But its drilled into our heads salt is bad for you. Which our diet doesn't have enough potassium that counters the salt. Only way to really correct overgrowth is to sweat it out or drugs. As the internal system to get rid of things is overwhelmed, along with not enough magnesium.
Vitamin C, is more than just ascorbic acid. That is just what we labeled as vitamin C. Drinking oj has major affects on immune as I'm getting all the other things I'm missing from taking just pills.
Mother also had liver problems, think brother and sister have some liver problems but it just manifests differently. Where I can't digest protein properly, enough to survive, sure, to thrive not really. Also the excess protein(not digested) is broken down by the overgrowth of bacteria into ammonia which I can't get rid of since I need more protein(arginine into citrulline) to get rid of. Along with deep-fried foods, major inflammation, starches cooked at high temp make acrylamide which breaks down into more ammonia. Ammonia shifts gut flora, causes inflammation, and raises ph which creates a better environment for bad things. Raw ammonia is than injected into poop in the last section of the colon, which is a short-term solution. But when it's done long-term cause all kinds of problems. Peppermint seems to counter ammonia inflammation somewhat, so things can heal.
I seem to need major amounts of antioxidants for the liver especially blue. Turmeric is helpful with inflammation, if I take enough. Chocolate is helpful also, but doesn't seem to help in anyone way.
Since bacteria was such a problem, as it grows fast the body needs to deal with it first. I have yeast problems also, yeast is secondary to the body it seems as it grows slowly. But thrives in the high Ph and low blood flow from inflammation. Now it's just working on getting better. As good days leads to bad days as the body gets rid of things.
      Glad you are doing better.

I just have to say I have to question cutting out meat, dairy, and eggs. Humans have been eating those things alot longer than crohn's has been around. I would like to see more research into what our changover to seed oils has done. I'm also leary of soy products. My brother told me his brother in law who he helped on the farm told him soy beans could be left in the wagon in the barn as raccoons and mice didn't bother them, yet we do. That kind of tells me something when animals won't eat something and we use it in alot of products.

Most soy is gmo and a bean which can have a lot of anti nutrients. Sometimes that helpful sometimes not. Soy and rapeseed are terrible anyways. Before 1920 we didn’t eat any N-6, we ate lard. Crisco was made to look like lard. But with current practices of how we feed and treat pigs I wouldn’t eat it. Great UA-cam channel is “what I’ve learned”. What i got from this is the importance of fiber, but it can also make you constipated. Vegetable help clear thing out, protein helps build things up. Instead of juice have the fruit with the fiber. Fiber feeds the good bacteria, as most crohns have problems with mono cultures when you suppose to have a variety of bacteria. Just started using Culturelle IBS complete support, has complex sugars that are in breast milk that humans can’t break down it’s meant for growing good bacteria in babies.

I have used steroids, and other drugs and I don’t know how I will be able to get help with new dr I see him 15 minutes and then he looks puzzled when I describe issues and I don’t like that at all . I eat small bit s of food and I don’t eat other people s food anymore and I had fiber lol it laughed at me . I just keep trying to figure it out eat less no fiber! I have nausea and must have something to be able to smell the food allergies to food s are just beyond belief. I eat what I know want make me sick no preservatives plain food! No dairy , very able to stand potatoes with real butter! Breads No! So everything you need to thrive I can’t tolerate cramps and other issues I would rather not dis gust. I don’t eat salad’s I have never been able to tolerate. Your telling me what I have learned on my own! Thanks I just ask for steroids if bleeding and can’t gain weight at 5 ft 9 I weighed 112 lbs and that’s trouble I have did everything and I have finally used most of my own issues and I never eat meat! Thanks I just keep praying for the wisdom to figure it out and I seem to have had a wonderful dr for almost 40 years and now I have one that just doesn’t say much about it and doesn’t have any answers and doesn’t understand what I have at all. I have all these diseases that are not easy to work with and I try to make him understand but he just can’t grasp the situation. Thanks I pray for you all who suffer use your own intuition to help your self and listen to your dr as some of you don’t heal in between flares but you know how food effects you you can see that you are in control of your body and food that upsets you worse face it we don’t Obsorb anything the way we should my allergies are horrible so I just avoid it.Take care.

The only reason the plant based diet works in the first place is because it is one of many slow and inefficient ways to restore the gut microbiome.
From what I've seen and personally experienced animal proteins do not cause any problem whatsoever provided you have enough fruits and vegetables in your diet, though vegetable oils and most food additives are complete rubbish and should be avoided if at all possible.
Eating a good amount of fruits and vegetable while also consuming things high in probiotics like Milk Kefir would do the same thing as a plant based diet much faster while also offering some natural anti-inflammatory benefits.

I personally have problems with my body making pepsin and breaking down protein. Only thing that saved me is eggs. Other than pea protein and chick peas, other things as protein sources is extremely hard to digest, you get something like 20% from wheat.
