Trying NYC's CHEAPEST Pastrami! S&P Lunch's $16 Pastrami Review
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- S&P Lunch, formerly known as Eisenberg's before the restaurant closed and was bought and renamed, is one of NYC's classic old-fashioned Jewish Delis. Being around since 1929, the deli is just steps away from the famous Flatiron building and is packed at most hours of the day, mostly with locals. S&P, formerly Eisenberg's, is not well known, but many consider it one of the best Jewish delis in New York City due to its history and the affordability of its food. Most notably, it serves a pastrami on rye sandwich for just $16! This is in stark contrast to the Katz's Deli pastrami that is going for around $28 right now. Even famous Jewish delis outside of New York, such as Harold's Deli in Edison, NJ, is selling their pastrami on rye sandwich for about $25.
When all of the famous Jewish delis, like Pastrami Queen and 2nd Ave Deli, are all following suit with their $25 and up pastrami sandwiches, it really is a breath of fresh air to see S&P selling one at an affordable price. But is S&P really worth the hype? Some critics regard it as not just the cheapest pastrami around, but one of the best pastrami sandwiches in NYC. Is their famous pastrami on rye sandwich really worth the hype or is it just cheap? We'll find out together! We will also try their potato latkes, egg creams, and their matzo ball soup.

With all the chaos going on in the world,...there is comfort in watching UA review another pastrami sandwich.
Agreed
Thanks for the kind words! Hoping things calm down soon and there is peace
The only peace there is is a peace of steak 😅
Realistically most of the world is not chaotic. Only in small percentages of the planet
You read my mind. And, thank goodness for football season.
Back in the 1980s I had a part time job in the flat iron building across the street…I was going to Baruch college two blocks down..my boss Mr Shine would have me get his lunch at Eisenbergs one scoop of tuna fish one slice of rye and half a pickle…ha ha I’ve never forgotten it…I would tell him what a throwback the place was and he would laugh and tell me about all the Brooklyn Manhattan delis there were sometimes “4 to a block”…many good memories…of the place and now 40 years later my wife’s favorite place for a chocolate egg cream..funny how life goes..me and my wife immigrant kids from Queens sitting there..and I always think of Mr Shine…god bless you ..wherever you are.
There are two kind of matzo balls. They call them floaters and sinkers. Everyone has a different version they like! This one was dense and chewy so a sinker. I prefer that kind to floaters but it is extremely individual 😊
Thank you! As much as I like a dense matzo ball, I can't handle it combined with a corned beef sandwich. Both super yummy.
That sounds like poop
@ramencurry6672
Agreed. Solid loaf shit floats up but still starts at the bottom
that gentleman who gave that cherry coke to you...incredible gesture! Made my day seeing that.
Thanks for the video, all the way from Vancouver!

Don't you let anybody tell you how to review. Chit chat all you want. The people tune in to see you review the food. Be the UA your way. With much love and respect from Chicago USA Planet Earth
Thanks for the encouragement! Btw Chicago is an amazing food city. I will be back to make a few vids as soon as I'm able
People are correct he lets the food get cold often and then says “the cheese has hardened” or “uh the sandwich was good but it was sort of cold” cmon man we all love the way he reviews obviously we’re watching. He is learning and the reviews are more accurate if he’s not waiting for the food to get cold
I came across your videos a few months ago, I really enjoy that you are honest with your reviews instead of just faking some faces and saying it's good. I also love the spectrum of foods you eat. Wish you all the success. :)
Blessings & Love to the Jewish people around the world... and a thank you to UA for being such a kind man and brining us these good video's.
You're welcome! As long as people keep enjoying the videos I'm happy to keep making them
Bless you sir.
Shalome.
Yes blessings to a people selling you a piece of bread with some processed meat for $16.
@@mrpersianality6363the meat is not processed. It’s marinated with herbs and spices and mother’s love
I don't sub often but you got it, I hope you do get big enough to the point of doing this full time since you're one of the best out there, way better than some bigger asian food vloggers and we can all see your honest passion for food.
This is my favorite restaurant in NY. Food's solid, and you feel like you stepped into a Norman Rockwell painting.
UA keeps it so real. Love this guy.
So I've never been here, but now I have to try! I'm a vanilla guy as well, I'm sure they use U-Bet syrup. Doc Brown's is certainly iconic, and black cherry is always my choice. The broth in that soup looked perfect, cooked low and slow for hours. I grew up with my Mema's potato latkes, and she always had apple sauce & sour cream with them. You basically got exactly what I would order! Another wonderful review UA!
Dr. Browns is the classic drink at a Jewish deli, black Cherry or Cel-Ray. I used to make egg creams at a store in HS and they have syrup, milk and seltzer water. The sandwich is 1/2 the price because the sandwich is 1/2 the size or even less. I’ll stick with the 2nd Ave Deli, or Pastrami Queen. Thanks for the review.
Ive been making my own egg creams at home. I really liked that coffee shop. Looked authentic and not too expensive.
Nice gesture from the guy who gave you the Dr. Brown's Black Cherry soda. But if you're going to go with Dr. Brown's, the better pairing with pastrami is Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray soda. The amazing celery flavored soda. I love it. Some don't. But you have to try it. Especially with pastrami or corned beef.
Just love your videos my friend!
What makes the matzoh ball denser is the ratio of matzoh meal that is added to the recipe. It isn't really a different take on a matzoh ball, it is just a preference for lighter vs denser consistency.
Also, Dr Brown's Celray is also a good pairing for drink. My sister swears by the black cherry, but I am a Celray fan.
Really great, honest review!
I was personally not impressed by any of the food here. It appeared to me that the matzoh ball had not been cooked long enough. Dark broth, thin almost burnt potato latkes, pastrami way too thickly cut. That's what happens when there is no love in the cooking. They don't seem to care very much about what they serve there. I'll pass.
@elizabethwitt2621 undercooked the Matzoh Ball isn't what makes it hard, it is the amount of Matzoh Meal used in the recipe. I agree with yo, the broth was too dark, and the meat was too thick. The lakes did look overcooked, but I like them like that.😁
You need to try venturing into other boroughs other than Manhattan & Brooklyn for Pastrami Sandwiches. You can find them for under $16.
I loved going to Eisenberg's with my sister years ago. I never forgot how they served the potato salad in a coffee cup.
You need to go to Ben's Kosher Deli in Bay Terrace Queens. A pastrami on rye is $14.99.
Even though I've lived in the greater NYC area my whole life, I've never had an egg cream soda. Thanks for sharing!
Hey can you come to the east coast south? I love your videos and would really appreciate some local content.
very enjoyable vicario experience! with the latka ya gotta use the applesauce and the sour cream together. It's the melange baby!
What a nice stranger with the soda. ❤
Hi UA, enjoyed the video and thank you for posting. If you would be open to a few suggestions, here are two for your consideration:
1. Please clean off your fork before using it to point to food in the video. Other food reviewers do it and it's a small detail that makes a big difference.
2. I appreciate your acknowledgement of trying to balance your commentary with the temperature of the food. I believe it was over 15 minutes of you getting served the pastrami sandwich and you eating it. Perhaps you can try a quick bite of all of the food you order, and then you can go back and try them again and then give more of your analysis.
Overall, enjoyed the video and keep up the good work, looking forward to watching more videos.
Cheers!
I don’t understand how this channel doesn’t get more viewership.. maybe because he doesn’t do a lot of short form content that caters to the attention span of UA-cam’s current viewers
Celery flavored Dr browns is where it's at
With respect to Matzoh balls, there are sinkers and floaters. Growing up in a family that had many relatives that made them, and all delicious, I preferred the floaters in soup and the sinkers if eaten by themselves or with Cottage cheese, salt and pepper…. Yes… cottage cheese, that’s the way my European Grandmothers served them and they were delicious.
Matzoh Ball probably did not have enough egg. A bit of oil, age it one hour, boil one hour, soak in soup 20 minutes. No regional diferences.
Matza Balls comes in two types. Sinkers and Floaters. Both goods just different people like each. I am a sinker fan, which is what you have.
Also, 10 cheers to the person who got u the soda🤗

S ( ess) in yiddish means eat, was laughing when heard the name
S and P ess and pee😂
That sandwich is the perfect size. I wish Katz would change it up. Although they do have the half sand which and soup option. I guess. 16$ is a great deal!
Next time when you go to Katz's get the pastrami sandwich and for $1.20 extra get two slices of rye. For less than 30 bucks you got yourself two sandwiches with a perfect meat to bread ratio.
If you're on a diet. Go big or go home, I say.
@@Onetwothreepeanuts HAHA That's 200 IQ right there lol. That is smart. Half a sandwhich is really two, so I agree with that. Although, my 4 person fam I got to eat all the meat they didn't so I don't know if I want to give up chef snacks heh.
Pastrami is probably more tender later in the day as it spends more time in the steamer. The steamer tenderizes it...
As a European I am always amazed at the stupid amount of food they serve you in the US, like they want you to be obese or get diabetes. This looked way better in quantity and price.
Yeah, that Matzoh Ball has been refrigerated and then reheated, that's why it's rubbery. You're right that proper Matzoh Balls should be fluffy, not so dense.
Potato latkes are made year round but that wasn't always the case. Potato latkes are part of the Hanukkah celebration. The oil they are fried in are a reminder of the theme of the holiday where the Menorah only had enough oil to last one day but lasted for 8 days. They are so tasty that they became year round food. Both sour cream and applesauce are good pairings for the latkes because they both counter the greasiness of the lakes. It's personal preference which one you enjoy or you don't have to use either. I have seen people using things like ketchup too. By the way, there is no reason you can't use a knife with the latkes.
I use ketchup with my potato latkes, they are basically a huge flat French fry. Try it!
UA next year try the CITI FIELD Pastrami; it is some of the best in the City
Looks like they covered up the sign due to the extended temporary scaffolding. But yes probably changed the name due to new management/owners. I went there years ago with previous owners and wasn't impressed at all by the food. It was mediocre... The atmosphere though was really nice and happy to see they kept it mostly the same. Hoping the food has improved though.
Hey UA.
First, I like watching your videos.
For good "potato pancake" you should go to Heidelberg.
An authentic and AMAZING german place on 2nd ave (betw. 85th & 86th st.).
Right now it's Octoberfest- a great time to give them a visit.✌️😁
What's the deal with those rectangular digital clocks? I noticed them in alot of backgrounds in the bear.
You can get Egg Cream outside of NYC...Montreal!
I noticed that despite hitting all the top diners for pastrami sandwiches, you never had one on the potato pancakes? I don’t know why that is but you do not know what you’re missing. Trust me as long as you’re a fan of potato pancakes you will love, pastrami, potato pancakes! A must try, especially for your audiences to see.
When are you going to start reviewing Pizza in NYC?
Haha I am the same way about sour cream. I always have one bite with it but it’s not for me. That looked delicious especially great price.
So it's not just me!
There's that piano music again. At least it's not too loud.
Do you like Calpis? I’ve never tried it but it’s apparently a carbonated dairy drink.
Looks like a good local place we will have to check out on next trip here in the fall. I HATE the tourist spots. We both lived there for years and love the good local places tourists will never know about. LOVE a good Jewish deli.
Well I like tourist spots because I’m a tourist
@@ramencurry6672 Hey do your thing when you travel. I've done it but it get's old afterwhile to me. When we travel now it's more focused on the local experiences not the typical tourist traps you've already been to.
@@johniii8147 well I’m one of those mainstream sheep. It’s fun
10:32 Look at the clock over UA's shoulder! He's gonna be late for work!!!! :)
Is there a specific difference between latkes and potato pancakes? Does anyone know?
Nyc prices are insane
Can't focus on UA...because they released a generous ton of decent movies on here for free again and I'm catching up. Will return to UA. Thanks, buddy, and stay well!
I freakin love this place. I can almost smell the schmaltz through the screen
In my experience that's a good m.ball. Firm and the right size
YUM! 😋😋😋😋😋
Safe Journey! CHOLULA!!!
TABASCO!!!
FRANK'S RED HOT!!!!
Dr Brown's Cream soda!
The little artery in the pastrami. Oh man.
The prices are crazy for the portions, not including the sandwhich.
That sandwich looked weak. Go to David's Brisket House. Get either the brisket or the pastrami, on rye with mustard. Outstanding.
The guy with the audacity to walk in and order only a medium coffee. Psychopath.
I moved further east on Long Island and delicatessens, or a thing of the past out here and the ones that you find, suck really bad. The hero place near me was selling pastrami from Katz delicatessen. I tried one and I’m not shitting you $33. I asked the guy what the fuck I just bought, well, he is now out of business. It didn’t take long at all, he would’ve been a whiz kid, doubling Manhattan prices and selling it on Long Island. It didn’t work out.
Eisenberg’s was a treasure.
UA, we’re gonna make you an honorary Jew! You’ve become the ambassador of Yiddishkeit. Gezunteheit!😂 (not a great matzahball if it was dense. They didn’t use fluffed egg whites). The latkes looked legit!
What’s the day job?
well Im more of a corned beef kind of guy. Plus I live in the Philippines. so im cooking my own
Never heard of egg cream.
Your palate is still developing. I like the chew and the fat in my sandwich. Don't diss it!
I'm ready to Drive back to Jersey just for a Great Hogie , Cheese Stake
Sub, Pizza North Carolina is close BUT NOT IT .....
try that sandwich with a bite of that pickle
You should consider changing your channel's name to UA Eats Pastrami
That Pastrami reminds me of spam, you get what you pay for.
is it me or do they need to change their deep fry oil?
they rolled it to tight, should be lightly tapped when preparing the ball. roll it in 2 hands like a meatball it is tuff, sinker, tap lightly, fluffy
UA Big Dog Pumping Out Content. Well Played SiR!
Will keep making content if people still enjoy the vids!
@@uaeats yeah buddy
Team sour cream!
What do you expect from $16 pastrami?
I'm the one who bought u the soda
I'd love to see more non-pastrami, non-steak content, just for variety's sake.
I do, my last video was actually a sushi video. It's just not all video topics perform the same so the non pastrami/steak vids may not have been shown to you by the algorithm
@@uaeats Yes, and I appreciate them. But for me, the percentage of pastrami and steak videos is too high, and the content/format is pretty much the same at each restaurant. I'd love to see you branch out even more and attempt more creative content. Don't get me wrong. I like your channel, your style and your honesty. But it's also good to surprise your viewers once in a while.
You're missing out. Shapiro's!
$16 is the cheapest? Thats price gouging
To the detective who is trying to solve the mystery of the person who murdered the matza ball, egg cream soda, and latka... the perpetrator was spotted and the crime occurred between 8:36 to 8:55 as evidenced by the suspect's video who didn't realize that the clock in the background gave away when the crime happened.
Everyone knows that cooking is not a Jewish person’s strength. Their cuisine is bland band boring plus $11 for potatoes is ridiculous
probably because Eastern European cuisine is bland itself.
Quite brave to be putting down a place's food while sitting and speaking so loud 📢
It’s what makes ua, ua. It’s one of the reasons why me and you choose ua over mark weins
There’s a difference between an honest, unbiased review of a restaurant and one who is simply ‘putting down’ the place they’re eating at. If a business can’t handle mixed criticism, then it shouldn’t be open. No business is perfect, and every company can always improve on its craft
I had a pastrami sandwich in NYC for $15, so you’re wrong.
S&P 500???
People are always sneaking into the videos of UA.
Let’s Go Brandon!
The Pastrami meat looks cut too thick...
$16 pastrami is not cheap. I live in nyc, if you comparing w tourist trap Katz ur doing it wrong
Thanks for sharing UA. UA, let's be honest now and call it what it is but that potato latka was grossly thin and overcooked. lol. The pastrami sandwich was the k cut but you're right, on the thin side - "you get what you pay for". Lol
you paid 13 English pound for a sandwich
Man I have to tell you you talked way too much about that matzoh ball soup
a good deal
Egg cream, no big deal.. matzoh ball not looking good, very heavy.. latkes hard to tell, should be thicker for sure, looks too densely fried because it's way too thin... Pastrami looks like a child's sandwich off the kids menu.. great review but not for me
Why is this dude extra squinty? I know us Asians have small eyes but this dude has a one degree blink. Considering that he can open his eyes wider as per the thumbnail, seems like it’s a choice for him keep his eyes at this level
i can get cheaper pastrami at a street cart
Aaaagh! Use a knife, UA!
The soup is too dark not true matzoh ball soup
Is $16 suppose to be cheap?
In clown world NYC, yes.
I love that the man bought u the soda... that's great.
Not all heroes wear capes
