Another superb review UA, and as always appreciating your understanding and respect for Jewish food. That matzah ball way too heavy and the broth should have been clear. Oh well. Too bad my late mother couldn’t treat you to a real soup. ❤❤❤
There are two kind of matzo balls. They call them floaters and sinkers. Everyone has a different version they like! This one was dense and chewy so a sinker. I prefer that kind to floaters but it is extremely individual 😊
I got to say, I do like the bread to meat ratio on this sandwich more. Its just a normal sandwich like its suposed to. Other shops need to do this too, and maybe put a "double portion" option on the menu.
I agree. I prefer one sandwich's worth of pastrami on my pastrami sandwich. Katz's and other tourist-y places, pile on the pastrami. Where you really just end up taking it home and making five sandwiches out of the meat. This more the traditional amount you'll get at a neighborhood deli.
I came across your videos a few months ago, I really enjoy that you are honest with your reviews instead of just faking some faces and saying it's good. I also love the spectrum of foods you eat. Wish you all the success. :)

UE: Glad you checked out the former Eisenberg's! I was thinking about checking out the current ownership! I used to get several sandwiches there for years! The pastrami for me looked great, fatty & juicy, spicy musterd, decent Rye bread & a whole Jewish picked, super for $16! The potatoe latkas are always thin & crunchy ! The soup was the soup, no big deal! And you don't need to tip the dude cutting the meat, lol!
Food looked super delicious; now I am hungry. The place has a nice atmosphere with friendly people. As a lifelong matzo ball eater, I can attest that their are different preferences about matzo balls (kneidlach in Yiddish). People can get really worked up about matzo balls but to each his own. They can vary on the dense vs. light scale as well as the size. Today most are made with vegetable oil but in the old days, the use of schmaltz (rendered chicken fat) gave a flavor that some say pushes the best matzo balls over the top.
I don't sub often but you got it, I hope you do get big enough to the point of doing this full time since you're one of the best out there, way better than some bigger asian food vloggers and we can all see your honest passion for food.
So I've never been here, but now I have to try! I'm a vanilla guy as well, I'm sure they use U-Bet syrup. Doc Brown's is certainly iconic, and black cherry is always my choice. The broth in that soup looked perfect, cooked low and slow for hours. I grew up with my Mema's potato latkes, and she always had apple sauce & sour cream with them. You basically got exactly what I would order! Another wonderful review UA!
First off, you chit chatting during the review is the main reason I watch your vids, they keep me engaged and fun to just get the full experience. Anyone could just eat something and say if it's good or bad, but to me that's boring. Go read a yelp or google review if that's what they want. Thanks UA, keep up the great work!
Dr. Browns is the classic drink at a Jewish deli, black Cherry or Cel-Ray. I used to make egg creams at a store in HS and they have syrup, milk and seltzer water. The sandwich is 1/2 the price because the sandwich is 1/2 the size or even less. I’ll stick with the 2nd Ave Deli, or Pastrami Queen. Thanks for the review.
Just found your channel. Love the authentic style. Please keep this up! Also, I see a full time UA-cam role happening very soon given your passion :).Have a great weekend!!
Im so glad you visited this place! I went there a lot a few years ago while in college before Covid and loved their pastrami sandwich. I heard they closed but thank you for making this video because now I have to visit again!
I know me and my family enjoy light and fluffy matzo balls. Sometimes they are dense and I’m not a fan. Their broth looks darker than normal but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Thanks for another very transparent and comprehensive review. I also appreciate your respect for Jewish food and a Jewish deli right now. (I'm super impressed you could eat all of that at 8:30am!!!). (And I also prefer the Matzoh ball soup at 2nd ave deli or Katz - but my mom's matzoh ball soup is the best - very light and fluffy!).
Good for you UA. Great Channel. Your presentation reminds me of Mikey Chen and Mark Wiens, alot of insightful info, fun descriptions of things! Shout out to the GENEROUS stranger! Did he make an appearance at 3:55?
Nice gesture from the guy who gave you the Dr. Brown's Black Cherry soda. But if you're going to go with Dr. Brown's, the better pairing with pastrami is Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray soda. The amazing celery flavored soda. I love it. Some don't. But you have to try it. Especially with pastrami or corned beef.
man i miss a 5 dollar lunch. eating out everyday just isnt worth it for me. i remember the combo prices at mcds back in the 90s. you could eat three meals a day there for 12 bucks.
Nice video as always UE :) I wish I had found your channel sooner since I visited NYC for the first time on May and was a bit lost on what to eat. Hopefully I will be back next year and try some of your recommendations ❤
Worked at a Jewish deli for a few years. I can tell you why our matzo ball used to be dense at times. We would pre make the balls in hotel pans and put the hotel pans in the walk-in fridge, and we would pull them out one by one to cook off for service. When done properly, the balls are used up quickly and expand well and are light and fluffy. When too many balls are premade, they don't get cooked off fast enough, and then they don't expand when cooked off, which makes them like little cannon balls.
Also, pastrami is likely cut thick to reduce costs. The thicker it is, the faster the cook can slice it. Also, thick pastrami will hold better in a warming table or drawer. It's not falling apart because it takes a long time and some skill to get it to that point, so they probably don't bother since it's a less expensive sandwich at that place.
I use to eat at Eisenberg's about 20 years ago. To be honest, I never had the pastrami lol. It's sad to see so many iconic venues closing. I'm in Toronto and about half of the restaurants are closed/closing. Thanks for another great review!!!
What makes the matzoh ball denser is the ratio of matzoh meal that is added to the recipe. It isn't really a different take on a matzoh ball, it is just a preference for lighter vs denser consistency. Also, Dr Brown's Celray is also a good pairing for drink. My sister swears by the black cherry, but I am a Celray fan.
Really great, honest review! I was personally not impressed by any of the food here. It appeared to me that the matzoh ball had not been cooked long enough. Dark broth, thin almost burnt potato latkes, pastrami way too thickly cut. That's what happens when there is no love in the cooking. They don't seem to care very much about what they serve there. I'll pass.
@elizabethwitt2621 undercooked the Matzoh Ball isn't what makes it hard, it is the amount of Matzoh Meal used in the recipe. I agree with yo, the broth was too dark, and the meat was too thick. The lakes did look overcooked, but I like them like that.😁

With respect to Matzoh balls, there are sinkers and floaters. Yes… cottage cheese, that’s the way my European Grandmothers served them and they were delicious.

To answer your matzoh ball question, there are definitely two camps. Dense, and light. My mom makes very dense matzoh balls, so that's what I prefer. I've had them a few other places, but obviously nothing beats mom's cooking. I like denser, but if you're a light fan, I get it.
I tried a pastrami sandwich for the first time because of you. Lol. I never had the curiosity to try before. A breakfast/deli place near me in Brooklyn sells them for $15. They labeled the pastrami and corned beef as "steamed". Not sure what the difference is.
No, outside of a few big cities, it is truly hard to find. I am currently living in a small town in the Midwest in the United States. Some co-workers were discussing corned beef which they said was awful. It turns out they only knew disgusting canned corned beef from Wal-Mart.
Looks like they covered up the sign due to the extended temporary scaffolding. But yes probably changed the name due to new management/owners. I went there years ago with previous owners and wasn't impressed at all by the food. It was mediocre... The atmosphere though was really nice and happy to see they kept it mostly the same. Hoping the food has improved though.
Yeah, that Matzoh Ball has been refrigerated and then reheated, that's why it's rubbery. You're right that proper Matzoh Balls should be fluffy, not so dense. Potato latkes are made year round but that wasn't always the case. Potato latkes are part of the Hanukkah celebration. The oil they are fried in are a reminder of the theme of the holiday where the Menorah only had enough oil to last one day but lasted for 8 days. They are so tasty that they became year round food. Both sour cream and applesauce are good pairings for the latkes because they both counter the greasiness of the lakes. It's personal preference which one you enjoy or you don't have to use either. I have seen people using things like ketchup too. By the way, there is no reason you can't use a knife with the latkes.
Hi UA, enjoyed the video and thank you for posting. If you would be open to a few suggestions, here are two for your consideration: 1. Please clean off your fork before using it to point to food in the video. Other food reviewers do it and it's a small detail that makes a big difference. 2. I appreciate your acknowledgement of trying to balance your commentary with the temperature of the food. I believe it was over 15 minutes of you getting served the pastrami sandwich and you eating it. Perhaps you can try a quick bite of all of the food you order, and then you can go back and try them again and then give more of your analysis. Overall, enjoyed the video and keep up the good work, looking forward to watching more videos. Cheers!
Hi UA! Oh boy I’m hungry! Mazoh Balls are a place by place style. The light and fluffy version is made with soda water. The bubbles are the secret ingredient. Potato Pancakes should be on the thin side. IMHO. Great place overall. Just kinda far for me. But, Brent’s is far for you so 🤷🏻♂️
Matzo balls have shmaltz and eggs in them. Not vegan!!!! But totally delicious. We also dip the latke in the apple sauce or the sour cream. (Only the kids put ketchup on latkes.)
Hey UA. First, I like watching your videos. For good "potato pancake" you should go to Heidelberg. An authentic and AMAZING german place on 2nd ave (betw. 85th & 86th st.). Right now it's Octoberfest- a great time to give them a visit.✌️😁
That sandwich is the perfect size. I wish Katz would change it up. Although they do have the half sand which and soup option. I guess. 16$ is a great deal!
Next time when you go to Katz's get the pastrami sandwich and for $1.20 extra get two slices of rye. For less than 30 bucks you got yourself two sandwiches with a perfect meat to bread ratio.
@@Onetwothreepeanuts HAHA That's 200 IQ right there lol. That is smart. Half a sandwhich is really two, so I agree with that. Although, my 4 person fam I got to eat all the meat they didn't so I don't know if I want to give up chef snacks heh.
Surprisingly matzo can change with weather conditions. Don’t ask me why idk but I grew up with close friend who’s family owned a Jewish deli in Brooklyn. Her dad used to complain about it

Looks like a good local place we will have to check out on next trip here in the fall. I HATE the tourist spots. We both lived there for years and love the good local places tourists will never know about. LOVE a good Jewish deli.
@@ramencurry6672 Hey do your thing when you travel. I've done it but it get's old afterwhile to me. When we travel now it's more focused on the local experiences not the typical tourist traps you've already been to.
used to be my go to for bacon egg and cheese breakie sando when i used to live in flatiron... sad that it's eisenberg anymore but i wonder if the food is still the same?
This sandwich at S&P isn't a normal pastrami sandwich. Its just 2 thick pastrami-steaks with too much mustard. At other delis where they hand-carve the meat, like Katz's, there are still multi-slices of meat. And why so much mustard? Do they have to hide the flavor? Harold's is in New Jersey, and its unfair to compare it to any NYC deli. Harold's sandwiches are over-oversized, and made to be shared with someone else, so of course they cost more. If you compare by weight, you would find that, for the weight of meat in that S&P sandwich, its not such a bargain.
This is not a Jewish deli, it's maybe Jewish style deli but it seems like this is just a diner. Jewish Deli's are Kosher. Jewish style are places that serve the same type of food found in authentic Kosher delis but are in fact not Kosher. Notice they had bacon on the menu. Real Jewish deli's, AKA Kosher deli's, would never have bacon on the menu.
Can't focus on UA...because they released a generous ton of decent movies on here for free again and I'm catching up. Will return to UA. Thanks, buddy, and stay well!
I noticed that despite hitting all the top diners for pastrami sandwiches, you never had one on the potato pancakes? I don’t know why that is but you do not know what you’re missing. Trust me as long as you’re a fan of potato pancakes you will love, pastrami, potato pancakes! A must try, especially for your audiences to see.

To answer your matzoh ball question, there are definitely two camps. Dense, and light. My mom makes very dense matzoh balls, so that's what I prefer. I've had them a few other places, but obviously nothing beats mom's cooking. I like denser, but if you're a light fan, I get it.
UA. You have to try Tenafly Kosher Deli & Caterers, on Washington st. in Tenafly NJ. I have been there and loved it!
I tried a pastrami sandwich for the first time because of you. Lol. I never had the curiosity to try before. A breakfast/deli place near me in Brooklyn sells them for $15. They labeled the pastrami and corned beef as "steamed". Not sure what the difference is.
Most people in America have never tried a pastrami sandwich. It’s not really that mainstream even though it’s not difficult to find
I never had matzoh ball soup but it looks good that broth is what looks really good
Hey can you come to the east coast south? I love your videos and would really appreciate some local content.
I like a more dense chewy matzoh ball over a light fluffy one. It's more toothsome.
Hi UA, enjoyed the video and thank you for posting. If you would be open to a few suggestions, here are two for your consideration:
Cheers!
UA, please try a glatt kosher deli next - Mendy’s NYC. Closed on the weekends and by 3pm on Fridays.
Mendy's was made famous on a Seinfeld episode
S ( ess) in yiddish means eat, was laughing when heard the name
S and P ess and pee😂
That sandwich is the perfect size. I wish Katz would change it up. Although they do have the half sand which and soup option. I guess. 16$ is a great deal!
Next time when you go to Katz's get the pastrami sandwich and for $1.20 extra get two slices of rye. For less than 30 bucks you got yourself two sandwiches with a perfect meat to bread ratio.
If you're on a diet. Go big or go home, I say.
@@Onetwothreepeanuts HAHA That's 200 IQ right there lol. That is smart. Half a sandwhich is really two, so I agree with that. Although, my 4 person fam I got to eat all the meat they didn't so I don't know if I want to give up chef snacks heh.
14:57 BRO WILDIN 😂😂😂
Surprisingly matzo can change with weather conditions. Don’t ask me why idk but I grew up with close friend who’s family owned a Jewish deli in Brooklyn. Her dad used to complain about it
Matza Balls comes in two types. Sinkers and Floaters. Both goods just different people like each. I am a sinker fan, which is what you have.
You’re just fine Sweetpea♥️‼️you’ve got a following that really appreciates you and your food reports♥️‼️talk alk you want, you’re just fine♥️‼️🙋♀️🥰☮️🎃
Wow they do a really good menu .
Peanutbutter and bacon actually dose work i make it for self .
Live there flavour combinations on there sandwiches .10 for me.🇦🇺😉❤👍 soup looked yummy
Matzoh Ball probably did not have enough egg. A bit of oil, age it one hour, boil one hour, soak in soup 20 minutes. No regional diferences.
Haha I am the same way about sour cream. I always have one bite with it but it’s not for me. That looked delicious especially great price.
So it's not just me!
LETS GOOO NEW UA DROP
Hope you liked the vid!
keep killing it dude 👍 love the channel@@uaeats
Looks like a good local place we will have to check out on next trip here in the fall. I HATE the tourist spots. We both lived there for years and love the good local places tourists will never know about. LOVE a good Jewish deli.
Well I like tourist spots because I’m a tourist
@@ramencurry6672 Hey do your thing when you travel. I've done it but it get's old afterwhile to me. When we travel now it's more focused on the local experiences not the typical tourist traps you've already been to.
@@johniii8147 well I’m one of those mainstream sheep. It’s fun
used to be my go to for bacon egg and cheese breakie sando when i used to live in flatiron... sad that it's eisenberg anymore but i wonder if the food is still the same?
Please tell us the reason why you play the old speak easy music! And I love it
Tbh, I just think it's bouncy and gives good vibes for the vids!
I wish you gave a review of that soda too 😭
Haha you know, I wanted to. But after the egg cream it was just too much sugar, especially for breakfast. I very much enjoyed it that evening though.
@@uaeatsmake sure you order it next time you are at a deli, it will be an nod to your long time followers
ive tried to go to this place a few times, only bad thing is its always packed!
Need to check this place out 😀
This sandwich at S&P isn't a normal pastrami sandwich.
I use ketchup with my potato latkes, they are basically a huge flat French fry. Try it!
Can't focus on UA...because they released a generous ton of decent movies on here for free again and I'm catching up. Will return to UA. Thanks, buddy, and stay well!
Do you like Calpis? I’ve never tried it but it’s apparently a carbonated dairy drink.
UA next year try the CITI FIELD Pastrami; it is some of the best in the City
What's the deal with those rectangular digital clocks? I noticed them in alot of backgrounds in the bear.
Pastrami is probably more tender later in the day as it spends more time in the steamer. The steamer tenderizes it...
When are you going to start reviewing Pizza in NYC?
I will sau the matzo ball soup is a bit dense, definitely does not look fluffy but i will trust Ua, to say whether its kosher or not…
