Been to Sarge's many times. The pickles/coleslaw are the best part. I seem to remember the customer service wasn't overly friendly either but you handled the situation well. I much prefer the matzah ball soup at second avenue deli and russ and daughters. Good review.
@@NoahEatsMost definitely - there is way more meat included (the sandwich is VERY large) and the meat is overall more juicy and tender and the outer layer has a delicious crust. It's also far more expensive though.

I went all over and most places are friendly. Once in a while, you'll find a dump full of losers with the NYC attitude they think is cool. They're all posers who think they are so cool but no one likes them. I had relatives from there, some who lost everything and had to leave and ask us for money after acting like they were better than us for years.
There was a period when I went to Sarge's semi-regularly, I'm thinking roughly 8-10 years ago. IMO the pastrami is better than Katz any day of the week, but found the service really unfriendly. I didn't mind so much at the time, but I'm really put off by how they treated you. I respect how you stayed positive and charitable about it.
So did he end up eating the fly, it sure looks like it? Also thanks for showing the prices so that people know they are only saving a few bucks by not going to Katz although I would pay those few bucks more for the better service. Whenever anyone mentions the Katz prices people comment on those prices like if there is some subway under $10 dollar pastrami option with the same amount of meat available in NYC.
@@mikeymutual5489 But the bussers and counter folks are all nice and treat you with respect. You can get great service at a counter service restaurant.
I've tried Sarges Deli, Katz and recently 2nd Avenue Deli -- Katz's Deli Pastrami sandwich is miles better than the rest. 2nd Avenue Deli is best all around deli imo. I still need to try Pastrami Queen
I think the waitresses work specific tables and work on primarily tips. I can understand her frustration but she could have handled it better by at the very least explaining the reasoning instead of showing an attitude. Yes, the cop looks like Joe Pesci in Home Alone. The one thing I really dislike about Katz is you have to hunt for an empty seat. Looks like Sarge's you do not have that issue. Thank you for listening to your viewers and trying this place out. Much appreciated your honest review.
Most of the people who work in the service industry are too dumb to hint at wanting tips. I didn't even know barbers accepted tips until years after I moved to America. They don't have tip jars, don't hint, but they'll make nasty comments. They're not the brightest.
I remember when I went NY in 2010, and in Little Italy at some restaurant, they would not seat me at all, all the servers ignored me, they all made eye contact and continued to help others, after 30 minutes...I left! Never experienced that here in west coast ever in my life, but I did in NY!
I've heard similar stories of difficult service in Italy. There's even people who visited there who said the restaurants were so ridiculous, they just went to McDonald's the rest of the trip.
I'm worried...at the 12:40 mark a fly is clearly seen pacing up and down the meat on UA's sandwich and immediately the camera cuts to said sandwich hitting UA's mouth. I don't know why he swallowed a fly...perhaps he'll die?
I used to work in the area near Sarge's on the night shift and 5 nights a week after work I'd go and eat at Sarge's Deli. I'd say between 1979 and 1983 that I've eaten at Sarge's Deli a thousand times. To me the pastrami and corned beef sandwiches at Sarges are as good as or sometimes better than Katz's Deli. Katz's Corned Beef if not flavorful enough, and even pale in flavor and dry too. The Pastrami at Katz's is fantastic but sometimes too greasy. To me for the best Deli in NY City I always go to Sarge's Deli and they deliver too. The thing about Sarge's Matzo Ball soup is they expect you to salt and pepper to your taste at the table. You can request for thick sliced Pastrami at Sarge's and I always ask at Sarge's for the sandwich NOT to be lean and to leave all the fat witch is where the flavor is!!! Not kidding. I really enjoy your videos and just saw you for the first time tonight.
You have great energy and positivie vibes! For me, personally, that server sounds like she hates tips and I would have left when met with her attitude. If that's how people are in NYC, I'll stay in Canada where we have manners.
Thanks for doing this visit UA. I should say the usual egg cream at many Jewish delis is the chocolate one, especially if they use U-Bet Syrup; try it sometime unless you are allergic to chocolate. Keep up the good work.

@@NoahEats Yeah, terrible waiter service. Not sure if it's a New York thing, or just that establishment. I might have walked out after a few choice words.
Kudos to UA. He has the correct attitude. There are some really horrible things that are happening in the world. Who knows what could happen to you in the future? It makes no sense to get upset about anything as trivial as service in a restaurant. Don't sweat the small things and most things are small.
Reviewers ought to get upset about it on behalf of the business owners. If you care about your business you want staff treating customers well and I’d be furious if my staff treat a regular or one off visitor like that. The whole point of the service industry is to make people feel special and provide them with a great experience.

I like the journey for the best pastrami! Next time you come to LA, try Johnny’s Pastrami. It’s different in that it’s thin sliced on a french roll, but I think it’s a contender. Also The Hat is good, same kind of thin sliced.
Thanks for the rec! Always on the lookout for a great pastrami sandwich. For me Langer's is the one to beat based on flavor alone. Katz's is my favorite for quality and quantity.
I'm a life long resident of LA...The Hat and Johnny's are poor examples of a a true great pastrami sandwich..they both are subpar and overrated , especially The Hat.. which is equal to and no better than an Arry's or Jim's Burger style burger joint. Langers is the gold standard here, everything else is just meh
Two items I don't think I would spend $$ on egg cream or matzo ball soup, but that pastrami... yeah worth the $$ for me.(maybe not that many $$ but that is why I don't live on a coast)
BRO BRO BRO!!!! look at the shot of the sandwich just before you take your first bite. A live bug crawling across the middle of the sandwich!!! I took pictures. How do I send them?
I ate at Sarge's a few months ago and definitely prefer it to Katz's. These comparisons are subjective so there is really no "best". For example Katz's hand sliced pastrami is too thick for my taste and I really like the double fried potatoes at Sarge's. My suggestion is try both if you have the time and can afford the salt and calories.

most places have waiters that cover certain sections. it's more convenient for waiters to group people together, makes servicing easier. but that girl's attitude was unwarranted, especially since you weren't being combative and just asking questions. order takeout next time, cuz that's just bad service
Now this is my spot! I LOVE Sarges. The atmosphere, the food, the sometimes sassy waitresses (who are all actually very nice). I recommend the pastrami kinishes in addition to the sandwiches, deeeeeeelish!!! Yum!!
Not happy about the staff at all. No excuse to be so ill-mannered. Too many good deli's to go to where that doesn't happen. Thanks for posting, again. Also, saw the fly as well...if anyone's keeping track.
Exactly... even if it's "work" to be nice... than "work" at it. I was a super nice waiter & it was just me knowing it is my best chance at a good or decent tip. It's as important as your speed & listening ability
It should be a good experience to eat at an establishement, for employees to ruin your day like that, even if they apologize it ruin the whole experience. No doubt that lady will apologize, but things like that shows how mediocre the place is to begin with.
The fly seemed to enjoy the Pastrami. Almost as appetizing as the worker at 2nd street blowing his nose in the background. But none of that would stop me from these awesome pastrami sandwiches. Soooo good.
Check out Ziggy Gruber, who co-owns a large deli in Houston and is also the grandson of the original owner of the Rialto Deli. Maybe UA can go there on his next trip to Texas. I have not been there but I really enjoyed the documentary called The Deli Man which features Ziggy.
Good question. I think a lot of it is beef is more expensive than it used to be. But smoked meat in Montreal is not as expensive as pastrami and corned beef is in NYC
NY deli is very broad. Corner Deli’s like bodegas will not typically charge crazy prices although it varies however Jewish Delicatessens DO charge more. The sandwiches are bigger but up to the individual if they think it’s worth it
@@uaeats Not just the sandwiches, which I agree can be due to beef prices and is kinda understandable, I'm more referring to the other items; $20 omelettes are insane, hardly anything on the menu under $10!

I would however come to this for the delicious and foamy Egg Cream and the locals design including gallery of players, the other dishes here can be eaten waaaay better abroad including in my state. See you hopefully one day, including for eating my favorite Pastrami!
Sarge's has the #1 pastrami in NYC. Super thin and fatty. Delicious. Also the best banana cream pie - WAYYY better than Magnolia's banana pudding. Also, I think they were trying to segregate you with the seating. Lots of Jewish delis do that. I'm sure if they knew this video was going to get 100,000+ views they'd be nicer, but that's what they get for having an attitude - lots of bad impressions and lost business. Saying things like "OMG" for just a polite, simple request is unacceptable. Especially in this economy where restaurants are struggling for business. It's not hard at all to be nice, yet they insist on being rude. Once your channel really blows up, they will regret it.
Do they brine their own pastrami and corned beef? Or is it just packaged stuff that is reheated? Also, hand carving makes a difference. Without hand slicing, you may as well eat at Subway. At least recently. What did Subway do before the slicers?

Hey I love all your reviews , all the places that you reviewed so far that I’ve had myself I agree with your commentary, also you should come review uncle Giuseppe’s in shrewsbury nj it’s fantastic your really gonna have a blast there , also between the waitress and the fly n bland soup kudos for not totally bashing sarges
Been to Sarge's many times. The pickles/coleslaw are the best part. I seem to remember the customer service wasn't overly friendly either but you handled the situation well. I much prefer the matzah ball soup at second avenue deli and russ and daughters. Good review.
I agree with your assessment too. Would you say Katz's is a better sandwich?
@@NoahEatsMost definitely - there is way more meat included (the sandwich is VERY large) and the meat is overall more juicy and tender and the outer layer has a delicious crust. It's also far more expensive though.
I'm really enjoying your channel. Keep up the good work!
I enjoy my Pastrami Sandwiches without flies. Glad you enjoyed it with flies. Did it add extra flavor after that bite? 12:39
I Seen It 😂😂😂
Great review !
Thank you for the information 🙂
Service matters. Sarges's fails. Avoid this place.
I was totally surprised at the start of the beginning of the video, that was tough to watch
Are you all people that sensitive.. if thats the case nearly 80% of New York resto is like this even more.
@@islandrepublic9166I agree. Yo I grew up in alphabet city. People are way too sensitive. Drugs and graffiti that's where I grew up NYCHA projects.
@@islandrepublic9166 80%? Maybe back in the eighties. Not anymore. Most of the restaurants are run by foreigners or yuppies who don't have the nasty attitude anymore. I went all over and most places are friendly. Once in a while, you'll find a dump full of losers with the NYC attitude they think is cool. They're all posers who think they are so cool but no one likes them. I had relatives from there, some who lost everything and had to leave and ask us for money after acting like they were better than us for years.
@@islandrepublic9166Really, what a bunch of wimps
Saw that fly. Guess he likes extra protein!
Except for a small section, Katz's is a counter-service restaurant.
Just went to Pastrami Queen, im not sure if it was just me, but it was not even close to Katz's
Pastrami Queen, and 2nd Ave Deli the best two pastrami spots in NYC
BOOM 💥 Sure do enjoy your detailed experience eating. Did you see that fly on the sandwich? Time 12:42- 12:44
$14 for 3 eggs?!! I would have walked out IMMEDIATELY!!!
The NYC Price is steep now. I was at the Lexington Candy shop and had to try a $12 milk shake.
I remember when I went NY in 2010, and in Little Italy at some restaurant, they would not seat me at all, all the servers ignored me, they all made eye contact and continued to help others, after 30 minutes...I left! Never experienced that here in west coast ever in my life, but I did in NY!
You black?
Maybe you have to put your pants on for service …..Just kidding. Some places you have to speak to a hostess and she will assign your seat
I think it's a west coast thing bc here ppl are very attentive, but in NY u need to speak up to get acknowledged.
I've heard similar stories of difficult service in Italy. There's even people who visited there who said the restaurants were so ridiculous, they just went to McDonald's the rest of the trip.
David's Brisket House in Nostrand Ave. Brooklyn.
None is better.
Definitely will add that to my list!
Your content is well done and satisfying. Keep it up.👍
I'm worried...at the 12:40 mark a fly is clearly seen pacing up and down the meat on UA's sandwich and immediately the camera cuts to said sandwich hitting UA's mouth. I don't know why he swallowed a fly...perhaps he'll die?
It is unhygienic, but he won't die

@@NoahEats How about you not co-opt UA's chat threads for your own purposes, eh, clown?
There is a reason tourists don't go there, we went there once and the service was horrible. So yes, I can relate.
Well done UA. That waitress was very unprofessional/rude. You kept your composure well! Great video, keep them coming. Cheers
You have great energy and positivie vibes! For me, personally, that server sounds like she hates tips and I would have left when met with her attitude. If that's how people are in NYC, I'll stay in Canada where we have manners.
Congrats on 30k subs!
Thank you! We've come a long way!
Thanks for doing this visit UA. I should say the usual egg cream at many Jewish delis is the chocolate one, especially if they use U-Bet Syrup; try it sometime unless you are allergic to chocolate. Keep up the good work.
Chocolate is the most common, but vanilla and strawberry egg creams have also been made for over 100 years.
Thin sliced and lean is my preference and I sort of expect a little rude in a NYC deli.
If I don't get good service I don't go back, no matter how good the food is! There's plenty of other choices.
I agree but if you’re in a small town or 2nd rate city, there’s usually maybe one good restaurant and that’s your only choice
That's a valid point. We actually don't go out to eat very often as over the years we have learned to make a lot of meals that are better than going out.@@ramencurry6672
Life is ying and yang. Contrast.
Brent's Deli in the San Fernando Valley, try the sweet and scour cabbage soup. The soup is #1!!!
There's a bug on your sandwich at 12:41. Ugh! But very good review as usual. By the way, bad service? Mocking gestures towards you? That should tell the viewer a lot. Food aside, hameful. Still waiting for a review of Joe Junior's.
I'd be afraid to sit down after that exchange of asking to a different table :)
@@NoahEats Yeah, terrible waiter service. Not sure if it's a New York thing, or just that establishment. I might have walked out after a few choice words.
Did the fly at 12:40 provide the extra protein you need😅. Just picking
Need to keep up the strength for vlogging. Usually I swallow a bug during a bike ride
@@NoahEats too funny 😁
Kudos to UA. He has the correct attitude. There are some really horrible things that are happening in the world. Who knows what could happen to you in the future? It makes no sense to get upset about anything as trivial as service in a restaurant. Don't sweat the small things and most things are small.
Reviewers ought to get upset about it on behalf of the business owners. If you care about your business you want staff treating customers well and I’d be furious if my staff treat a regular or one off visitor like that. The whole point of the service industry is to make people feel special and provide them with a great experience.

It’s probably because UA looked abit Asian?
That fly on your pastrami was having a blast 🎉, can’t believe you didn’t notice
I feel so bad for you that the waiter was so rude to you. Love your content all the way from World cup rugby winner 2023 South 🎉🎉🎉👌👌❤️
I love the pastrami reviews! Try Hobby's in Newark NJ.
I recently tried an egg creme soda. It looked and sounded disgusting watching the videos. But then I tried it and it's only terrible.
I just recorded my visit to Lexington Luncheonette and was not impressed by their beverages
Its supposed to be chocolate, soda water and milk. Never heard of a vanilla one.
@@truth4004 It is supposed to be whatever flavor you have a syrup for. Just because you haven't heard of it, doesn't mean that it is not a thing.
It's actually quite delicious if you make it correctly. Think of it as an ice cream soda without the ice cream.
12:10 Did he actuually eat the fly??
If the table she didn't want you to sit at is the one I think it is, that's because it hadn't been cleaned yet. Even if it was, she could have explained that and been a WHOLE lot nicer to you. There is also the possibility that by seating you at a messy table she would have faced the wrath of the servers...Just a guess.
Have you tried the 21 club for burgers. I remember in the 70s they had great burgers.
lol took me forever to notice the fly, good chance he ate it😂
I like the journey for the best pastrami!
Love watching UA's reviews especially the Pastrami
Fast food pastrami in LA is an entirely different beast. Still good, but not on the same level as Langer's
@@alhollywood6486 I didn’t know about Langer’s until UA’s review. Definitely on my list to try now.
Everything you got I ordered once I was there and shared it with 3 people ! Portions are huge 😂
Agree i had both and i think Katz still goes on top.
I second that vote!
You need to go to Philadelphia and try Hershel’s deli. Good job at what you are doing 👍
Definitely will add Hershel's to my list and record
Pretty sure our buddy UA got shafted here by the server: tiny bowl of soup, tiny sandwich with the bare minimum amount of meat
that fly that crawled all over the pastrami meat scared the bejezus out of me, hope you noticed that UA
Can you order the flies on the side? 12:40
Pastrami comes with either rye bread or fly bread
I've been to Sarge's a bunch of times and the staff can definitely be surly. But I go back for the white fish.
You're doing a great job period I would have told her that blank off a long time ago.
UA stands for Unbelievable Appetite or Universal Appetite
"Sarge's was founded in 1964 by a local cop named Abe Katz, who didn't call the deli Katz's for reasons I don't need to tell you. An almost too-perfect picture of Abe in uniform graces the cover of the huge menu."

most places have waiters that cover certain sections. it's more convenient for waiters to group people together, makes servicing easier. but that girl's attitude was unwarranted, especially since you weren't being combative and just asking questions. order takeout next time, cuz that's just bad service
The sound of the video was really low i had to turn the tv up really loud. Besides that great video!
LOL you're right looks like Home Alone guy pretending to be a cop
Also I meant Harry, not Marv
No Dr. Brown’s Cel-Ray to wash it all down?
It should be a good experience to eat at an establishement, for employees to ruin your day like that, even if they apologize it ruin the whole experience. No doubt that lady will apologize, but things like that shows how mediocre the place is to begin with.
The fly seemed to enjoy the Pastrami. Almost as appetizing as the worker at 2nd street blowing his nose in the background. But none of that would stop me from these awesome pastrami sandwiches. Soooo good.
There's no way I would have been able to eat there after that
exactly, cuz they'll guilt u into tipping. who knows what they were saying about him behind his back
three ??,....did you mean there ?
Check out Ziggy Gruber, who co-owns a large deli in Houston and is also the grandson of the original owner of the Rialto Deli. Maybe UA can go there on his next trip to Texas. I have not been there but I really enjoyed the documentary called The Deli Man which features Ziggy.
Why are NY delis so insanely expensive
Rents in NYC are ridiculous.
Good video, overall the price food relation is too much however. I would however come to this for the delicious and foamy Egg Cream and the locals design including gallery of players, the other dishes here can be eaten waaaay better abroad including in my state. See you hopefully one day, including for eating my favorite Pastrami!
Shitty customer service and overpriced as well. There's hundreds of jewish deli that make pastrami sandwiches to choose from, avoid this one.
🏆🌿 the no 1 UA-cam channel 🌿🏆
Segregate? By what?

Do they brine their own pastrami and corned beef? Or is it just packaged stuff that is reheated? Also, hand carving makes a difference. Without hand slicing, you may as well eat at Subway. At least recently. What did Subway do before the slicers?
