Good for you for picking up the guitar and learning the tapping part. Let me tell you why, from my standpoint but I think for many others too, we are so passionate about this band and why we come out in force to support good reaction vids. We all have that moment where we fell hook, line and sinker for them. When we get over the shock of seeing 5 cute Japanese girls in maid outfits ripping our faces off and making us grin from ear to ear, we dove in head first and listened to everything they ever did. And instead of getting old, it just got better - and literally made us happier (their music tends to make you smile - a lot). They are both a musician's band and a band that everybody can love - as you progress through the catalogue it generally gets very complex and layered, so you really hear new stuff with every listen. So - what to do? We need to make this band more popular!!! They deserve it and it literally made me seriously pissed off that they aren't one of the most popular bands in the world and folks are listening to so much garbage, or music that's not garbage but it's just sort of nice background music. We became united as a fandom to help these ladies any way we could. The fans and the band both seemed to realize that especially during covid, reaction vids and the like were spreading the word - and it worked - it helped to keep the band out in front of people. So while other bands/labels were blocking reaction videos, the maids welcomed them. It sort of became like we (the band and the fan base) were one big family. The band and the fans all feel connected, as hokey as that may sound - they have written several songs of appreciation directly to the fans, including Smile, About Us and Memorable. (I'm missing at least one) After four years, I am just as enthusiastic about them as ever, and spending crazy amounts of time and money to go see them play, buy their stuff, etc. - and it feels right, because I feel like I owe them for keeping me sane during some crap times. Sorry for dragging it out, but yeah we're on a mission for the maids!! Can't wait until the Chicago Maidathon next week!!

Nothing wrong with being long winded. If these bands encourage people reacting to their music, I am more than happy to base content around it. It's a reason why I'll keep coming back to them. Gacharic Spin encourages it. I think it is a great thing.
As I get older, I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't smash others' taste in music. It's all subjective. I did originally have it in my video (I had to cut it for time) where I discuss how it is a little sad that this type of music struggles to take off in the western world. Rock of any variety isn't commercially popular right now. I don't know if that will change but, to me, it shouldn't matter that much because groups like BAND-MAID have such passionate fans that will support the music.

You are rapidly on your way to being a True Maidiac.
And they go from 4/4 to 5/4 back to 4/4.
And the Ladies are always about what is best for the song. Many other bands SAY that, but Band-Maid is one of the few bands that DO it.
And MISA goes from using the pick, to slapping and popping and back to the pick in a blink and you'll miss it moment during her solo.
And Kanami is also doing some hammer ons-pull offs while tapping, she does that quite often, especially during her solo in Blooming.
And boil your strings for 30 minutes, then wipes them down with lemon oil. While you're boiling your strings, use the lemon oil to condition your fretboard and use a pencil eraser on your frets. Trust me, your fingers will thank you and you will get a little more life from your strings. Also put some graphite from a pencil in the slots of the nut since you have a trem on your guitar, it will help it stay in tune better.
And you didn't sound too bad. If you are ever interested in working on a cover of some other Band-Maid songs, hit up the Band-Maid Community Discord, we have a rather large group of musicians that have done several covers. I've been playing drums for the last two years because of Akane and any small piece of her playing that I get to copy is just so satisfying. Thanks a lot for sharing kind words and openness in your intro.
Seeing new Maidiacs get their 🪽 wings is immensely fun.
The truth is Band Maid make us better listeners of music. And for musicians, better players.
Band Maid is a masterclass in contrasts, and in the unexpected.
For me, it’s their humility and attitude that make them exceptional. I’ve had enough with the egomaniacal musicians. How refreshing to have a band enjoying themselves onstage? And being so caring about the fans?
It’s just plain fun. Hard rock doesn’t have to be angry.
P.S. For your own personal enjoyment, check out “Moratorium.” It has about four unique riffs that are straightforward enough to pick up and play, but so tasty!

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 On Jan.9 this year, Band-Maid played this as 11th song in their 26 setlist. I was there at Tokyo Garden Theater. Kanami's lead guitar was great, Miku's strumming is steady. Rhythm section by Misa and Akane transmitted a stormy vibration to my visceral organs through air and floor of the venue, especially in their two instrumentals : "Onset" and "From Now On". Band-Maid is good for dyspepsia, too. 😄

The Maidiac community is a phemom simply because Band-Maid is a Phenom. I stumbled across Band-Maid about two years ago and 'Onset' was what convinced me that Band-Maid was something new and unique, something I had not experienced before in music. And since then Band-Maid has kept doing this again and again!
Just this week Band-Maid released their Tenth Anniversary Best CDs. DHL dropped my preorders off on Wednesday and the remixes sound great. Then I see that they are releasing a new single "Shambles" on Thursday and when I hear the 'premier' it reminds me of "Rinne" and "Unfair Game" - Akane seems to be playing a constantly changing fill from beginning to end - Neal Peart has to be smiling from Heaven. I need to listen to this again! Thursday evening Band-Maid plays the Lallapaloosa Aftershow and I see a fan-cam of the whole show on Friday afternoon - another great show! Then I see their afternoon show at Lallapaloosa streamed and somehow Band-Maid pulled out all the stops, topped themselves, and performed an even more phenomenal show: new backing tracks, more bass/guitar duels, everyone playing/singing in top form, and the sound/mix was incredible! Watch it if you can, you'll be awestruck.
The first week of August 2023 has been an explosion for Band-Maid. They are making history.

There are great bands and there wonderful bits of music. Then we have Band Maid. Back ten years they were pop/punk/rock type set up. Now they don't do genres they are a genre. I wish I could find just one track I don't love enough to replay. Some more than others but they put more effort into one track than some bands put into a whole album. But as we know Band Maid don't do instrumentals. They just have a long conversation without words. Shut Up Kanami is talking. It really is worth checking all the catalogue. The point about not over complicating music is a good one. Band Maid are clearly great musicians. But they do the simple things so well. Each hook is a hook that has so much replayability. Akane never overpowers with the drums just supports it and holds up the track so well. Always fun to see anybody with the love of something or something that has a genuine insight and regard for music.

A couple of thoughts. I've been listening and creating music since literally before I can remember. I'm the youngest in my family and I was surrounded by older siblings who listened and played and I cannot imagine life without music. It is as essential as food, water, and air. Second, you are not the first reactor who's learned something of theirs "on air" and I think it's one of the reasons more experienced musicians find Kanami Tōno so fascinating. There is often much more below the surface than you expect - and it is the same with the bass and drums and the way they interact with the vocals. Their solos are not self-indulgent. Everything is to make the song better. They are fun to listen to and fun to play. Preconceived notions about ballads, pop music, metal music, shredding ... they all fall away in the presence of this group who know how to make genuine music with whatever format they choose to do. Lastly, I'm really looking forward to your exploration of Band-Maid's music. It seems like you'll have interesting things to say.

Many will be screaming for you to check out 'From Now On' next, but I would suggest making maybe 2 or 3 stops in between and saving this track for a little later. The catalog of these ladies has so much more to offer, including some more instrumentals like 'Without Holding Back' (Video ID: eEiE3ND7JEc ) which I also like to call Onset 2.0 or 'Blooming' which in my opinion contains one of Kanami's strongest solos and at the same time is driven strongly by Akane. But I don't recommend the latter if you plan to go to sleep right after it. 😇

Onset holds special place for me because it's a cool jam and still different. I know this one is nowhere near technical as their other instrumentals and white room version of their songs, but it still is my top instrumental by them. Many musicians want to focus on what's going on behind vocals. Well track down their white room videos somewhere on UA-cam.
