I'm 75 and have been following rock since the mid-to-late 50's and have seen and heard them all, and this is the best rock instrumental I've ever heard, bar none. Back in the early 60's with the beginning of surf rock there were a lot of instrumentals from the likes of the Ventures and the Surfaris and The Rip Chords. And over in England The Shadows were an excellent instrumental group around the same time. But at some point, sadly, it died out. It was great when I first heard Band-Maid, and especially Onset. I was very impressed. I have to do a deep dive on From Now On to see what other kind of sorcery Kanamincho has come up with. She really is a savant when it comes to composition.

I have come to believe that akane really is the best drummer in the world. When Jimmy Page complimented her is because, like Bonham she is only relevant in the context of the band. His solos are celebrated but I don't think the band cared much for them except for a smoke break, what was irreplaceable about him was that thing that achi has which is to be a part of the overall instrument that kanami forces and coaxes the band to become. They each slot together like a beautiful puzzle but without a drummer as extraordinarily musical as akane they would not be able to stretch themselves as they do. The others are outrageously good musicians and kanami a composer and producer in a million but without achi the centre would not hold. She is like that in the team too, the others are all more than slightly mad but achi is the antipsycotic - too much in the groove to be unhinged but soo gifted. In the beginning when they would tour Japan in a hired hiace van, she would book the gigs and rehearsals and make damn sure everything happened - they chose her as bandleader at that crucial time that made them into a real rockband. Don't ever let anyone tell you that they're not a real rockband like the legends of the sixties and seventies, they've paid their dues. No they are not a product of the Japanese music industry that everyone says they understand and you don't. Achi symbolises that. She may not do virtuoso 10 minute solos, BAND-MAID don't do that because they are a band and not a bunch of insecure musicians. How many drummers spend weeks video ing their technique from all angles to make it more efficient?
Also to note, they can do these Instrumentals just as good live, saw them at this show in Boston and it was Phenomenal live. Vladimir Chupin caught most of the US Tour this year. Link to Raw Concert Video if you wish to see it: ua-cam.com/video/1gmH4EcwrC8/v-deo.html

I didn't think another B-M instrumental could be as good as "Onset" but both of these songs are to BAND-MAID as BAND-MAID is to the sun....Totally dazzling.😎
@@jkkansasband7056 I was the "Difficult" 2nd child😪 that's why i love all the Maids equally....apart from Mincho who i love equally more cos she was the 2nd member.😏
@@GaryHolloway-810 Oooo... Second child syndrome. It's all true. They can have a "difficult" time of it. Especially is they're competing against the elder. Mincho has survived the syndrome with flying colors. 🥰
What I love about Kanami's riffs is that she'll start off with something you've heard a hundred times before and you'll think she's going the expected, clichéd direction, but instead she highjacks it and goes into new, unexpected territory. Brilliant!
These ladies are one of the hardest working bands on the planet. They push each other and work as a team. Their live shows are about as high energy as it gets and their stage show is as entertaining as can be. Their lead vocalist is every bit as talented as the rest of the group. The only complaint I've ever heard is that their earlier albums are over compressed and make for difficult listening. But their live videos are much better. Their story is amazing.
The best rhythm section I have heard in a very long time. I taught myself to play the drums as a teenager and have always regretted not getting lessons. Even now in my mid-50s, I would love to have a fraction of Akane's ability.
MISA MISA MISA, The Mistress Of Thunder always puts a big smile on my face. And Akane's double kick drumming is insane, they are a tight rhythm section. In my opinion they are Band-Maid's secret weapon.
Cheezy you hit all good points. BAND-MAID is simply Awesomazing. Their synergy allows them to perform these Live flawlessly (I will atest). Their recognition needs to grow at all costs. Their talent is almost beyond compare. Their arrangements keep you interested at ALL times. And they have FUN playing for you. AWESOMAZING. As it stands now, I'm trying not to pass out... You, Cheezyxyz, are a stronger man than I. 🤯 Oh, in case no one has mentioned it, Band-Maid an The Warning met at The Aftershock Festival recently. There's videos of the historic event on this very platform. Highly recommend! Thanks man! 🕊
There are many instrumental only versions of most of their songs floating around. I bring this up because I find the vocals act as a leavening agent, masking how hard the music is. Their music is just flat out killer. An interesting oddity is their cover of a Slipknot song, done as a off the cuff livestream some years back.
I've always wanted to buy that camera person a beer for catching that 'pick flip/tuck so perfectly with all the lights and lasers going on. Pro move. 🙂

This is more intense than in-person. The cinematics are out of this world. I've seen Kanami perform this live up-close (on her side), but I always have these images in my mind. I have this on Blu-Ray. In fact, I have a few of the Blu-Ray albums (unopened), but no Blu-Ray player (Haven't had the chance to go shopping for one). So, I rely on YT rxns, and going to see them live (that's my excuse to the wife 🤓). Once she finds out that I'm going to Tokyo Garden (We in LA), she may just get me one for Christmas and I'll be sleeping on the couch, Po! 🦍 Look for Band Maid 2015 Music Gold Rush interview #73/74 by RandomMusic @BAND-MAID YT channel.
Kanami does most of the backing track herself. Back when this was recorded, she probably did all of the backing track. Currently, ALL of the Ladies contribute to the backing track. Vocally and on other instruments. I've read several rumors that since Saiki has been learning piano and guitar, Kanami had her on keyboards for the backing tracks of at least one of the songs on the Unleash EP, while Kanami, Akane and MISA all did piano on other tracks. And this is just a RUMOR, all of the Ladies are after Miku to get her to start learning piano again.
Lead guitarist Kanami (Kanamincho, Mincho) Uses a Mesa Triple Rectifier head and Mesa 4/12 cabinet. Rhythm guitarist Miku uses the EVH half stack. Cheers!
With the addition of saiki's vocals, the best hard rock band at the moment is complete! I got goosebumps when I realized that! Listening to these instrumental songs, I was once again impressed by the amazing vocalist saiki. Listen to all their songs in detail. It will be an incredible experience.
If you go over to the Reddit Band-Maid SubReddit you can find translations of the many interviews the Ladies have done. Also on UA-cam if you look for Band-Maid Music Gold Rush, you will find parts one and two, which there are several copies, ut one has the translation embeded the other you will have to use the close captions.
Every time I watch From Now On, I pick up something I missed before, and listening with a great set of Bose headphones is a real pleasure. You can pick up so many different nuances, it's just amazing. And Onset, is well...........Onset. There's not much more to say. Kanami is such a Mozart-like savant in her compositions, with some Brian Wilson thrown in for good measure. She never fails to surprise you by doing something more wild and creative than the last thing she did. It just leaves you speechless.
We all love our favorite Gorilla! Akane is a beast! 😄 Her infectious smile always makes me happy, and she is goofy and fun even of stage. These girls makes even the coldest heart to melt. Talent, love and friendship have made this band one of the best out there! 😍
This certainly rocks but Onset will always have a special place in my ears. It was the first song I heard from them when I was looking for Babymetal vids. Stumbled onto that and the rest is history but I digress From Now on is still amazing and I love listening to it. I'd like to add though Without Holding Back is also a classic instrumental. Absolutely worth listening to.
@@peepinR That's exactly what happened for me. Onset popped up as a suggestion off a BM video and I said "What the heck, why not?" Listened to it 4 or 5 times in a row and have been hooked since.
So glad you are doing two songs for each reaction!! You have a lot of music knowledge! I'm surprised you didn't notice Misa (bassist) tucking her pick in her index finger to slap. She's the only bassist I know of that can do that. Great reaction!!
The really hard part is UNtucking it in a split-second the way she does. I actually wonder if she's got some stickum on the end of her index finger but...nah, just MISA magic.
Hi Cheezyxyz, glad to know you are into them. If you want to know more about the band members, you should also watch a fan(Maidiac)-made documentary of Saiki (lead singer), Akane (drummer) and Kanami (lead guitarist/composer) by Ohrenje (his playlist : ua-cam.com/video/3Mx_rZnqayg/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Ohrenje). Cheers !
“Onset” is their 1st instrumental, “From Now On” is the newest. There’s another instrumental in the middle, relatively recent, called “No Holding Back” which you should definitely check out. Akane is amazing on drums. Her drumming is always in the groove, and she is so clever with her pedal work and fills. Around 2017, Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, caught one of their shows and went backstage to complement Akane on her drumming. Misa & Akane are the best bass/drums combo going. As you have seen, Band Maid’s live performances are just as good and usually better than the originals. Good review.

From Now On & Onset = Just a couple of average every day MASTERPIECES by BAND-MAID!! Thanks for the great reactions :) They are all amazing instrumentalists- but it usually is the bassist Misa and drummer Akane who stand out first to people. If I can recommend their songs that should be reacted to the MVs - Blooming, warning, daydreaming, dice, manners, rinne - to name the best ones :) If you would like to hear some of Akane's best work, try their other great instrumental 'without holding back' - or maybe the best drumming, in the oft overlooked incredible 'honkai'. Also of note is the amazing black hole (the live that comes with manners) - but imo it stands out even more for the incredible bass work all the way through if you pay attention. p.s A few of these like Honkai do not have an official live or MV - but please dont react to the poor quality fan recordings. Its much better to react to the album version with just the music. The only live ive seen of honkai is pretty bad audio and it spoils it imo. The just music album version in on YT like probably most of their songs.
I love their instrumentals. I dont have an interview link for you, but check The band all have a go at drumming (the name says it all) or Kanami goes wild (special intro solo for live shows for song Moratorium) great moments from live shows.
Cheezyxys, nice reaction. They are all amazing in different ways. But I want to humbly point out that the basic musical idea/composition is almost always Kanami's for the last 7-8 years. An adorable musical being.
One of MISA (bass player) talented among many is her technique to switch between pick and slap by putting her pick behind her ring finger really fast. Nice. Going back to the beginning is always a good idea when there is a lot to digest. This was a pretty sweet set for a reaction video. Kanami, lead guitar and song writer, develops the backing tracks. She studied piano since before grade school. I believe she did the final version in the studio for older songs. Not sure if she created/recorded the backing track for From Now On, but I'm pretty sure it was her music. The others apparently wanted an instrumental with an orchestral backing track and she obliged.

I didn't think another B-M instrumental could be as good as "Onset" but both of these songs are to BAND-MAID as BAND-MAID is to the sun....Totally dazzling.😎

@@GaryHolloway-810 Oooo... Second child syndrome. It's all true. They can have a "difficult" time of it. Especially is they're competing against the elder. Mincho has survived the syndrome with flying colors. 🥰
They played these back to back (reverse order) in Philly! Was awesome! ♥
MISA MISA MISA!!!!! MISA MISA MISA!!!!!
What I love about Kanami's riffs is that she'll start off with something you've heard a hundred times before and you'll think she's going the expected, clichéd direction, but instead she highjacks it and goes into new, unexpected territory. Brilliant!
check out "without holding back" too.
_Akane aka Drumzilla_ is a must study if you play the drums, for her rhythmic double base work, fill choices, and accuracy. 🤘
Just recently saw “From Now On” live. OMNG! Kanami riffed her ass off. And the BPM's matched the DB's! 😶🌫Thx, Cheez!
Band Maid have hooked in another reactor, welcome aboard po!
Thanks FatTulip!
100%
From now on is a absolute masterpiece! I can't get over.
It is of my opinion that From Now On is the greatest song to ever be written. I just about died when I saw it live in DC.
Same! I was at that show on Kanami’s side of the stage so I saw her solos up close. What a great show!!
Cheezy you hit all good points. BAND-MAID is simply Awesomazing. Their synergy allows them to perform these Live flawlessly (I will atest). Their recognition needs to grow at all costs. Holy Cow! If, a year and a half ago when I was new to The Maids, I would have heard/seen "From Now On" and "Onset" back-to back, I would have melted into a quivering pool of helplessness.
Onset MISA tucks her pick to slap.
I've always wanted to buy that camera person a beer for catching that 'pick flip/tuck so perfectly with all the lights and lasers going on. Pro move. 🙂

People have mentioned Without Holding Back but Don't Be Long is also very good.
Yeah, MISA definitely uses all five strings.
She also uses the entire neck.
🦍 Look for Band Maid 2015 Music Gold Rush interview #73/74 by
RandomMusic @BAND-MAID YT channel.
The Music Goldrush interview is a good one to see. Also the Young guitar interview.
That backing track was probably played by Kanami, their lead guitarist. She is a classically trained pianist.
Cheers!
Along with the suggestions for interviews, you can search for "Band-Maid Omajinai Time" on UA-cam to see them goof around on stage with the audience.

With the addition of saiki's vocals, the best hard rock band at the moment is complete!
I got goosebumps when I realized that!
Listening to these instrumental songs, I was once again impressed by the amazing vocalist saiki.
Listen to all their songs in detail.
It will be an incredible experience.
SHE ...... MISA - went from pick to slap to pick......
There is an interview with Herman Li of Dragonforce. It features Miku-chan and Kanami-san.

We all love our favorite Gorilla! Akane is a beast! 😄 Her infectious smile always makes me happy, and she is goofy and fun even of stage. These girls makes even the coldest heart to melt. Talent, love and friendship have made this band one of the best out there! 😍
I always considered Onset to be my favourite instrumental song - then I heard From Now On. Absolute masterpiece. 🤘✌

@@Bekka_Noyb Yes, it has a sense of epic grandeur.

Thanks Terrance! I appreciate you. I'll look back at the slapping parts 🧀🤘
The really hard part is UNtucking it in a split-second the way she does. I actually wonder if she's got some stickum on the end of her index finger but...nah, just MISA magic.
Hi Cheezyxyz, glad to know you are into them. Cheers !
Bandmaid- Without Holding Back is my favorite instrumental from them. Check it out. It won't disappoint.
Thanks Dave, planning on it! 😎🧀🤘
13:27 when the bass enter... pure gold!

Akane (the drummer) .....sigh..... is a beast, and hits not just with precision but hard. Check out "Without Holding Back" instrumental..this too is on bilibili
Here's their names to learn.
Band-Maid Is:
Akane Hirose (Ah-kah-nee or Ah-kah-nay) -Drums Nickname: “Ah-chan” and "Gorilla" because Akane eats bananas a lot for her stamina)
MISA (Mee-sah) - Bass Guitar Nickname: "The Barefoot Assassin" MISA always performs with no shoes and "kills" everything she plays
Kanami Tono (Kah-nah-mee) - Lead Guitar/Songwriter Nickname: "Mincho" “Kanamincho”
Miku Kobato(Mee-koo) -Rhythm Guitar/Lyricist/Founder/Backing Vocals/Lead Vocals Hardest working girls in music Nickname: "Little Pigeon" (Miku’s surname means “Little Pigeon”) ....po
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-kee) -Lead Vocals Nickname: "The Princess" “Si-chan” Saiki is the Princess but Miku is Queen
Without holding back is they're best instumental
Thanks for the great reactions :) They are all amazing instrumentalists- but it usually is the bassist Misa and drummer Akane who stand out first to people.
If I can recommend their songs that should be reacted to the MVs - Blooming, warning, daydreaming, dice, manners, rinne - to name the best ones :)
If you would like to hear some of Akane's best work, try their other great instrumental 'without holding back' - or maybe the best drumming, in the oft overlooked incredible 'honkai'.

Kanami did make the orchestral parts. She bought the expansion packs/plug ins for her DAW so she can do an entire orchestra and then some.

Sorry, but no. Miku, the rhythm guitarist rocks an EVH 5150, but this was at the Zepp Tokyo LIVE concert where she was playing a +13 Amp. The whole concert is on the Chinese site billibilli.
