Exciting news! I've just released my new Procreate Dreams Class alexgrigg.studio/procreate-dreams . Its a real deep dive into the most powerful features and my full workflow for creating animation.
I'm happy that finally an animator showing animation stuff in dreams. I get it they need influencers to hype this stuff, but I was worrying that it will not be useable for pipeline people.

I’m just so excited procreate has been something I’ve been using for a long time and I’m excited that they came out with this. This is going to change the way a lot of people have been in a animating and only for the price of $20 which is a great price and very affordable for a lot of people I love how procreate cares about the artist and the art. they’re changing a lot and I’m very happy that they done this. I love procreate. I love what they’re doing and I can’t wait to see what procreate dreams is going to do for a whole lot of creative an amazing people
I'm really loving the app so far and enjoy the gesture/tap focused interface but it is, perhaps, a bit too cryptic and hyperminimalist. I say this as a minimalist UI designer. There should be a button for things like using the full-screen previewer! Anyway, thanks for the absolutely perfect tutorial for beginners :)
Thanks for this clear starting tutorial for Procreate Dreams. It's so much more helpful than the one I just watched by some other UA-camr. Thank you for your work.
This tutorial is so so helpful!! The way you spoke through all the features and the order that you did made me feel like I learnt so much in such little time. I knew the app had lots of potential but I had no clue where to start until this tutorial
Great intro to Dreams. Although, I think the giggles at 10:19 facing your own creation 😆 was the highlight. I can't wait to put my derpy hands on it. Looks awesome.! Do you think you could have done Born in the Void with Dreams? Keep it up!
Can’t wait to get Procreate Dreams🤩 Great tutorial 👍 I wonder if you can import a vector character from Adobe Illustrator and do the rigging and animation in P. Dreams🤔
If you saved the vector as a layered PSD and imported to Dreams from that, or via Procreate, and then set anchors in Dreams for your rigging attachment points.. yeah!
Great video, thank you so much for sharing! I had a question, I followed each of your steps carefully and made it to 6:19 of your video and unfortunately it’s not allowing me to export the file. It gets stuck on 2% and then says it failed to export. I tried multiple times and even restarted the app and my iPad and I’m still facing the same issue. Is there any way to fix this or is it a bug?
Same happens to me. I searched around and it appears to be a common problem. It might be a bug with iOS version or a specific model of iPad. Hopefully the Procreate team fixes it quickly.
Sorry might be a question for the Procreate support team. You could try making a new file, grouping all your existing animation and copying it over and then exporting?. But I dunno if that'll help
When I paste layered file over from procreate it gets flattened down and everything is one layer 😢 app is useless because of it for me. Do anybody have the same problem? Tried many files simple ones with layers still just flat composite is imported and don’t know why. Restarted dreams didnt help. Seems like a bug for me.
See online Handbook, i saw one YT show a tap long hold pop up menu from the track it lands in. I don’t recall which. Might have been Art in Motion, Alex Grigg, or Brookes Eggleston. Sometime in November.
learning animation from you on procreate dreams is a full circle moment as i learned animation in photoshop by a video of yours way back as well! thanks for sharing your knowledge once again!
Omg thank you for the tutorial! I’m going to design my own channel emotes on livestream tomorrow with Procreate Dreams, I’ve been waiting for this app and this tutorial has ben insanely helpful with learning this app quicker. Ok so I started animation journey yesterday in fresco I created 2 animations that were pretty cute… my thoughts about fresco have always been that it’s not as user friendly as procreate so today just for giggles I bought dreams and just followed your tutorial and my opinion now is that dreams is way more user friendly… just something about fresco (and photoshop for that matter) just doesn’t flow… whoever is on procreate’s design team is a frikin’ badass. Thank you for this super clear tutorial 😊
thank you so much for this video! I wanted to try out Dream after using Procreate, but the controls were not as intuitive as I hoped. your video is a great help to start out and find where the functions are hidden away :)
Hey! You really help me here, i bought it and didnt really know how to use so left it there, now I have my first animation of a car I made, will be getting better from now on thanks to you! Greetings from Ecuador and great GREAT video
I've been dreaming of being able animate my own character for so long but never really had access to professional tools! I'm so excited to start learning!
Great tutorial, but I'm not sure if you covered the frame change from "ones" to "twos", but as I just found it out myself I'll write it here: On the timeline where you have your frames - "activate" the right edge of the frame and then put one finger on the screen and you can then expand the frame to get it "stay longer" on the screen. Cheers.
Finally! Thank you! Been looking for a class ever since its premier on the 22nd. Apple Store doesn’t have classes for Dreams yet…WHY?? Thank you for posting your great beginner’s tutorial!
thanks for this tutorial! it’s not nearly as user friendly as procreate. i hate using gesture controls, i just want an undo button! i also noticed you’re not able to move layers in draw mode? i’m disappointed in it so far but i’m not ready to give up on it
Thanks, Alex. This is helpful to see since Dreams has some limitations still. I was excited for Dreams' release and when I finally started exploring, immediately I saw certain things missing that one would think is essential for a digital art software such as the lasso tool. I don't understand how that wasn't included on release since it's such a "basic" thing to have. There are other software that are developed by smaller groups or even by one person and that already provides these essentials. I still like Dreams and I want to use it as my main animation software, but above is my main criticism towards Procreate's developers.
If you want to bring over your procreate animations it's really easy. Just drag the file into your dreams project. The only trick is to set your project frame rate to the same frame rate as your Procreate file.
Great tutorial, I've always loved how Procreate is so easy to use and it seems Procreate Dreams is similar, but I was still a little overwhelmed when I first bought the app. This gives me somewhere to start. I think this app has amazing potential for people to make animation easy for just about anyone.
i fucking love procreate, been using it for years now and picked up the program immediately without any tutorials. I have used procreates animation features and made a few cute looping gifs. I was super excited for Dreams and woke up so hyped seeing it download on my ipad after preorder. I opened it up and have found myself stuck. I cant make a single animation to save my life. i have 0 clue wth is going on at all. Im really hoping i can get something out of this video because i want to love dreams just as much as procreate edit: already only 2 and a half minutes in and you’ve answered my most burning questions, how to get onionskin and how to add frames. bless u man
Tienes una manera tan clara de explicar que me encanta. Había visto otros videos sobre esta app y lo encontré muy difícil 😥 pero tú resolviste muchas de mis dudas como siempre. Espero con ansias más videos para seguir aprendiendo ❤
Great tutorial mate. Hmm, it's a neat piece of software, but I'll admit it's not as intuitive as I was hoping. I didn't even work out how to start a new blank frame without looking it up. I think it's a bit _too_ reliant on gesture controls. I think my go-to is still Rough Animator. If that had motion keyframing, it would be a fantastic tool.
I really appreciate you making you working files available. Often I find learning a software means making your own assets to copy the video and sometimes that takes more time than the tutorial. Thanks so much for this :)
Thank you very much for this tutorial. You explained everything so well! I will definitely check your videos and courses. Thanks again, you are both a great artist and teacher. 🥰
Thanks for this, it was a bit hard to hit the ground running, tool options and settings aren’t exactly obvious or intuitive, so I really appreciate you putting this together. It is really good once you get the work flow. I do think they should integrate a file/opt/sett. menu button.
Been watching several procreate dreams, tutorials, and really enjoyed yours…!!! can you please create more I’m anxious to learn as much as I can, and your explanations were very clear and easy to follow. Thanks!!!
Thanks for the tutorial! In flipbook mode it looks like you don't actually have to push the + button every time to add a frame (I think you need to only the first time on a new track) you can just swipe over to the next frame after that.
I can't wait for the first update! It's powerful, it's versatile, it's cheap, but it's not fun to work in. The lack of certain features like the lasso tool and the snap-to-a-shape feature makes it very uncomfortable to work in. I'm sticking to RoughAnimator for now, but I look forward to a more refined version of Procreate Dreams! I know Procreate will listen to the criticism, so I still feel confident in my purchase
Dude I love your channel so much. And I don't even care about being an animator. Your voice is just branded in my head lol and it really matches the style of your videos.

Hey! You really help me here, i bought it and didnt really know how to use so left it there, now I have my first animation of a car I made, will be getting better from now on thanks to you! Greetings from Ecuador and great GREAT video
The first Procreate Dreams tutorial I found that is actually geared toward beginners! Thanks!
Thank you so much! I tried figuring out the app without any guides and it was very frustrating, but this made it all seem so easy!
I've been dreaming of being able animate my own character for so long but never really had access to professional tools! I'm so excited to start learning!
Great tutorial, but I'm not sure if you covered the frame change from "ones" to "twos", but as I just found it out myself I'll write it here:
On the timeline where you have your frames - "activate" the right edge of the frame and then put one finger on the screen and you can then expand the frame to get it "stay longer" on the screen.
Cheers.
YOU'RE A LIFESAVER!! I already love your couse and then you drop this??? AMAZING!!
I’m already obsessed. I’ve waited all my life for this app. 😂😂 It’s currently downloading to my iPad. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great explanation. Playing with procreate dreams, with the tools you thought in this video. Easy to understand and great example.
Performance mode makes me so excited I could cry
Finally! Thank you! Been looking for a class ever since its premier on the 22nd. Apple Store doesn’t have classes for Dreams yet…WHY?? Thank you for posting your great beginner’s tutorial!
As soon as I get home I am downloading this program! Looks like it’s going to be an incredible asset for anyone interested in animation. 🤩
I know this was made a little while ago but I’ve been wanting to start animation and this is so helpful!! Thank you
Good stuff. I’ve been waiting for a program like this for my whole life. So much easier to use than anything else.
thanks for this tutorial! it’s not nearly as user friendly as procreate. i hate using gesture controls, i just want an undo button! i also noticed you’re not able to move layers in draw mode? i’m disappointed in it so far but i’m not ready to give up on it
Thank you for this video! I just got Procreate Dreams and felt so overwhelmed and lost 😂 this is a super helpful introduction!
This came out on the DAY I wrapped up an almost year-long animation project using normal Procreate... Wooo!
Best tutorial so far
Dang you gotta continue this this is amazing
i fucking love procreate, been using it for years now and picked up the program immediately without any tutorials. I have used procreates animation features and made a few cute looping gifs. I was super excited for Dreams and woke up so hyped seeing it download on my ipad after preorder. I opened it up and have found myself stuck. I cant make a single animation to save my life. i have 0 clue wth is going on at all. Im really hoping i can get something out of this video because i want to love dreams just as much as procreate
edit: already only 2 and a half minutes in and you’ve answered my most burning questions, how to get onionskin and how to add frames. bless u man
I'm glad I've been helpful!
I never understood why, even free “simple” animation apps have no key-framing! I’m glad Procreate Dreams has this.
Tienes una manera tan clara de explicar que me encanta. Había visto otros videos sobre esta app y lo encontré muy difícil 😥 pero tú resolviste muchas de mis dudas como siempre. Espero con ansias más videos para seguir aprendiendo ❤
I love your stuff! Please we need MOAR!!!
I seriously can't wait! I love procreate and even enjoy the limited animation capabilities so this is a dream come true (no pun intended).
Never been disappointed by a single one of your videos. Patient and very informative 😎
Thank you so much, I have tried watching other tutorials but you give off this aura that I could finally sit down and watch through, haha
Oh thanks so much. I hope you stick around
It's great how with the release of Dreams, the smaller creators are getting more attention 🎉😊
I really appreciate you making you working files available. Often I find learning a software means making your own assets to copy the video and sometimes that takes more time than the tutorial. Thanks so much for this :)
Haha yes, honestly designing all the assets here and in my deep dive course took so long.
Nice! Yeh that was a late update I think. It's good!
holy crap. 53 seconds in and I've just learned that you can change the resolution to something other than 4k. golden
Thank you. Just what I needed to get started….I felt slightly overwhelmed when I tried to figure it out on my own☺
Dude I love your channel so much. And I don't even care about being an animator. Your voice is just branded in my head lol and it really matches the style of your videos.
I was waiting for Procreate Dreams, and your video is just what I need to get to start! Thank you.
This was soooooo cool! I’m getting back into my childhood love of drawing. My teenage son and I are going to be tuning into you a lot
