I give it a solid 5/10. I feel it’s missing some key components that would render myself and other animators from switching over to this permanently. Like…. No lasso. No vector brushes. No QuickShape. Cannot merge layers. Cannot warp/distort something with multiple layers. Needing to go back and forth between procreate and procreate dreams is counterintuitive for me. For now, I am using ToonSquid and Adobe fresco. Great video btw! 🎉
A problem I have is despite the amount of undo steps I set for myself, it only gives me three different undo steps, one action, another action, and everything you did is gone. I’d give it a 2.5
You don't have to click on the plus icon to add a new frame, you just go to the next frame by click or swipe in the flipbook small panel. The reason why the plus icon is there is in case you want to create a frame between 2 frames already made. Not clicking the plus icon is going to save you time. 🤓🙏🏾
I just got it recently. Its pretty nice for being a tablet and portable option. I really like some of the new features, these can be pretty nice for what they are. The biggest thing I would like personally would be a ruler
Looks like Procreate rushed the release of Dreams without the integrating the full range of feature rich options within original Procreate. I don't really see the point of rushing the release without that. As I commented in other videos Dreams is too complicated. Unless you have a specific use for it, why get it? You explained some basic features very well. That's only the tip of the iceberg for the learning curve. IMHO.
As we know this team of devs, it's only going to get better as time goes on. It does seem like it was rushed, but I'm positive they will be updating this app a ton in the coming weeks or months.
When I was a kid I would have pooped my pants if I had this. Even if it’s rushed it’s still worth $20. My cousin had a palm pilot with a black and white pixelated flip book on it. That inspired me to look into computer animation. I bought a $1500 computer and a couple hundred for software that is not as good as this. Besides, They can’t think of everything
The thing that worried me the most is that it took them 5 years to get to this buggy barebones beta release. Probably gonna take another 1-2 years to get most of the other features they said are coming.
Thanks for the tutorial! i gotta say i feel like i rushed to buy this app, is it really worth the time to learn to use it? I already animate in procreate, are there any significant improvements?
Thsnk you for sharing. Please say if this is part of what is explained?? Keyframes can be on individual frames on same track. If the frames are then grouped on that track, keyframes made to the group apply to all the frames. -- while the individual frames keep their unique keyframe parameters. If the track is ungrouped, only the group keyframes are lost. ??
I so I might not have understood a lot with the app but immediately when you said rotating could only be done with the Apple Pencil I was like I know for a fact that that’s wrong and then I found out how to do it it’s scale and then there’s the rotate at the bottom if you click on the square arrow button thingy like usually it means crop in most apps but yeah i still dont know how to get the tools at the top like the settings button wreck
I've kind of considered animating a few things a while back but never really got to it. Do you suggest dreams is the best software for animation or would you suggest any others (for context I only draw on photoshop so my scope of animation is really skewed).
good question! I'm not sure about best, but I would say that procreate dreams is probably the easiest to learn (especially if you have painted in procreate before), since it's relatively barebones with it's features, which makes it a lot easier to pick up. So I would definitely recommend procreate dreams for beginners (and it's thankfully a one time purchase)
There are various animation apps on the iPad. I'd suggest you look up Toonsquid, RoughAnimator and Callipeg. You can find various videos of these apps in motion, and they are all one-time purchases, with Callipeg being the most expensive
Hi, thanks for your video, I have a question, is there any way in Procreate Dreams to record writing or drawing something with the apple pencil and then Procreate converts it into animation (as the animation mode does with the layers)?
@@KraymerArt i thought about a way, which isnt what we ask but could kinda do. Do the whole draw/lettering, extend it for the whole timelapse you want the anim to take, and starting from the last frame, start erasing a lil bit for every frame, going backwards. I cant think of other way
@@MysticGroovesMusic oh that's actually pretty clever to go backwards. I was thinking of pretty much the same thing except you go forwards (draw a bit, duplicate, draw again)
What a fkn useful tutorial. Straight to the point, points out the things I get annoyed by as a heads up, just really useful. Take my sub, dude. How annoying that creators like this are hard to find
OK so I just had to enable it to be able to be done with a finger I don’t know why someone would pay $129 for something that you can do with one of these rubber stylus it’s actually pretty accurate it’s like drawing on a piece of paper it’s not going to get any much better
Can i change the color from the character after i made the whole movement of the character? After i did a movement from 1second and than i duplicated it until 10seconds (running animation) than i want change colors of the character but i cant find it anywhere..😢
good question! I don't think I've actually seen anyone else talk about this. But what you could do is export your procreate animation as a sequence of frames, and then import them into procreate dreams. This should allow you to preserve them as individual frames
I swear man, the animate mode already broken:) I don't even know how to fix it anymore, I wish before the sec I decide to buy this one, I could change my target to Alight Motion instead
The problem is you can’t really draw anything nice within the drawing mode. You still need to switch back to procreate. This is a pain in the ass if you are working on something frame by frame
This is the best intro to the program on UA-cam. Many Thanks!

Do you have any other recommendations for basic animations that is friendly for hobbyist beginners?
no need vector, pixel editing is the core of Procreate.🙇🏻♂️
tooooo real
@@vandalpauliusFlipaClip is a good one if you haven’t found any yet, it’s free aswell but there is a premium

@@jayriku12I'll see what happens. I was a software developer in another life so I know the pitfalls of releasing products too early.

This is very helpful, thank u a lot!
glad it was helpful!
Too bad there is no lasso tool 😢😢
Is savage has any intention to bring lasso tool in dreams?
yes they said it is coming
Yes they will be updating this app very swiftly.
That helped a lot I know that’s the whole purpose that you did it thank you very much I really appreciate people that explain things
Here to give back the views ❤ and learn about dreams too thanks for giving this course for free ❤
"It is much better when you have an advanced drawing like THIS" *zooms on smiley face * I laughed out loud hahaha thanks for this quick overview!

wow...very helpful. Are you familiar with converting layers to tracks when you import from Procreate? Mine doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?
Were you able to figure it out?
Awesome first tutorial.
Omg thankyou. Just what I needed

im a 2D animator and my suggestion is Adobe animate cc, or toon boom harmony. If you want real animations
What device do you use?
I only have procreate because procreate dreams is too expensive but maybe I will buy it in the future

sorry but not that I know of. Your best bet would probably just do a lot of duplicating layers

Did Trey ever fix the need to group in order to move everything together?
if you but procreate dreams only, can you also just make non-animated drawings?
thanks for the help dude
Is there a lasso tool yet? I’m trying to know before I think about buying procreate as it’s 30$ for me

I fixed my brush problem but now I can’t zoom in every time I try it undoes my progress.Any tips on how I could fix this?
Cool
Is there any ruler tool? Because I’m lost and my drawing look way more worse than how it would be in normal procreate

i wish procreate have a lasso tool T-T
same, should hopefully come next update though
The problem is you can’t really draw anything nice within the drawing mode. You still need to switch back to procreate. This is a pain in the ass if you are working on something frame by frame
Still useless without the lasso tool. It just saves time if there’s shortcut tools instead from moving an app to another.
