Haha.. I like flux core because it means not worrying about running out of gas, not having to run to the welding supply stores as often and it's more forgiving. You can't beat a gas weld though...
Their solid wire is only $43.99.... There have been a few people who mentioned Vevor, and recently a guy who just said "Too much Vevor. Unsubscribed" or something like that, haha. I said what I said because I thought it was amusing, haha.
Vevor has a lot of really cool stuff. Canada is getting more all the time but the US has WAY more.

Seems to be that flux core really comes down to how it’s stored. Being vacuum packed is an indication that the results will be satisfactory at a minimum.
Flux core that’s been stored on shelves for months sucks up a bunch or moisture and ruins the weld puddle.

    • @loweredexpectations4927

Interesting. I knew this was true for welding rods, but didn't know if it would matter with flux core. I remember welding with a spool that literally had a white haze on the outside of it... obviously not good... but it "worked fine" ... meaning, it held stuff together. I guessing it wouldn't pass any sort of inspection, haha.

Good to know this. I'm going to dig-out my Princess Auto welder and see if it will accommodate a 10 / 11 lbs spool. Great savings on wire 👍🏻.
The other two diesel heaters I bought will be at my post office on Monday. I used the 1st heater I bought last week to warm up my truck engine after the block heater failed. Cold starts at -20 are not something I want to do so, this is just another way to use the "all in one" portable Vevor heater. 🔥

I was going to make a joke about the Vevor wire being 'fresher', but honestly... IF you old wire was really old, there very well could have been an oxide layer on it. You're a bit more humid than I am but not much (I'm 2hrs straight south of you near the big L!). One trick is to make a folded pad of brillo/scotch brite and wrap it over the wire just before it hits the first feed roller. Then hold it there with a bulldog clip. The wire then gets a bit of a polish, just before it gets used.

5/32 6010 liquid air is the best rod there is, but $50/10lb of flux core... I have a ac225 Lincoln i can hot wire to a wire unit and run 330ipm 160amp 38 volt and it just works. but those 110 volt units want it more? got a blue demon roll for that price a few years back and fixed a snow plow that got run over by a 11'000lb truck, the whole 10lb in -35*c... takes a lot of wire to fill anything. used 8 pounds of 5/32 6010 liquid air to install the axle on my car... they cut thru everything and fill gaps a mig wont.

I have used 120 in the past for welding and plasma cutting... When I built my garage I made sure to have lots of power... but it still wasn't enough, and I just had to upgrade my panel this fall.
I didn't take any loans for my garage, so it took me 3 years to "finish" it and some of the stuff that I got was used... In the end I got it the way I wanted ... with as much space as I had to work with...
... and I will likely have to sell my house and move in a few months, because I'm getting separated and won't be able to get approved for a mortgage.

Really eh... I found that it was harder to weld with, it tended to develop more pockets and a lot of spatter... but never had an issue with brittle welds.
I have have purchased lincoln from Canadian Tire several times and didn't think it was any different. Of course, the stuff on the department store shelves may sit there for a decade before it gets bought.... so maybe that has something to do with it.
"hobart burns hotter for same size of Lincoln flux wire" That's interesting. Must have something to do with the flux formula. I did find the Vevor stuff to burn a little cooler than the Blueshield, but I assumed it was just in my head.

@loweredexpectations4927 ya the pa was porous and the cracks was if I recall 80% of the welds I thought maybe it needed reversed polarity from all other wires but that made it even worst. We don't' have Harbour freight in Canada. Our version is often said to be Princess Auto. After I posted this video I see they have 10 lbs of Hobart (I think) for $74.99
I have used the really cheap stuff from princess auto and found that it worked fine, but it was harder to weld with, made a lot of spatter and I was more likely to get pockets in my weldes... I'm not sure why that is.

@@loweredexpectations4927 I thought there was for some reason. I'm still on the roll my welder came with 8 years ago...

LOL... I already had a lincoln and an Everlast... They did send me a stick welder... They also sent me a MIG at one point... but it had an issue, so I told them I couldn't make the video... it was on clearance, so they didn't have another one to send me... so that's where it ended.
The welder worked awesome, but it had a glitch and I wanted to test one without the glitch.
      Thanks for the support !!
