      well this is my first time seeing this guy. im not really a Honda person, but i agree with him about the new Civic and Accord. the only thing i disagree with him on is the 8th gen being the last true Civic. maybe for the Si, but not the main car. i felt like the 8th gen regular Civic was the beginning of the end, but it didn't take full effect until the 9th gen and 10th gen Honda Civics. last the true Honda Civic in my opinion was the 7th gen and the 6th gen before that. so from 1996-2005 was the best years for the Civic.

    I had this car. Still one of my favorite Si’s. The K20 was the best sounding 4 cylinder I’ve ever heard. Body roll was a problem with this car, but I upgraded to the hfp suspension which fixed it.

      I like having an engine that has all of its torque at 1800 RPM... because that’s where I use it day to day. No... I’m not talking about a V8 or a V6. I’m talking about the new base 1.5T engine in the tenth generation Civic. It stays in sixth gear above 40 MPH. Cruising... going up hill... passing.... passing up hill. By the time you do a double downshift and your VTEC kicks in... I’m gone.

    • @sd6580
      @sd6580 5 років тому +3

      yea but a 1.5t is gay. new civic has better performance stock in all areas but speed is not everything. the k20z3 sounded much better and had a sharper and longer power curve, it also has more options for upgrades. direct injection 4cyl turbos all sound the same and have mundane performance, the power is hardly anything to be jealous of as a golf gti will still accelerate harder even with basic bolt ons, and you won't be looking at ford gts without a deep wallet and addiction to e85. a k24 with a z3 head and a rotrex will consume a stock gt on a highway pull, and still get ~25 mpg cruising on 91

    The only Civic that I ever liked was the EK9, not really a fan of them besides that car. But I respect Honda Civic though, it’s a shame that ricers give them a bad name. The Integra Type R is a legend though, and the NSX was historical. Good video.

  • @CoreyJones314
    @CoreyJones314 6 років тому +26

    Having lived with this same car (redline orange, though) for 5+ years, I can agree that this is a great Honda. Maybe even the last great Honda (though I agree with other comments that if that's what we're thinking, it's really the FD2 that's the last great Honda).
    I disagree with the reviewer on a few points:
    The gauge cluster is not awkward; it's superior. I've lived with it for years - and going back to the two-pod design seems atavistic to me.
    The wheel is small, but the steering isn't quick by modern standards. However, I'd argue that it's a perfect steering ratio once you're at speed.
    The older Civics had double wishbone, but the 8th gen Civics will keep you from dying when/if you crash (there's a huge safety rating leap when going to the 8th gens over the older models).
    I agree with the reviewer on the engine placement, though. What a pain in the ass to get to.
    For me, this is a car that rewards the driver for "getting it right" more than any other car I've driven. I'm not saying it's the fastest (it's not), but it is the most rewarding that I've experienced.

    • @GTContent
      @GTContent  6 років тому +1

      Corey Jones Great to hear your experience.

    • @icecreamalacarte
      @icecreamalacarte 6 років тому +1

      @Corey To your gauge cluster comment: the reviewer said he was confused by it; a point to which I have no idea what he means but I agree with you 100 percent-it is simple and very efficient.
      Engine placement comment. It's a very simple cowel removal procedure to get back over the head; though weird when coming from the earlier Civics, it's pretty easy to remove and admirable that Honda made that strut bar stock on all 8th gens to improve handling and help with weight distribution.

    I’ve owned a 2011 Si coupe for a year now, and it is a great, enjoyable small car. The high revving engine is a lot of fun to drive with, definitely a good example of “slow fast” cars being fun. My biggest problem is the cramped engine bay. I haven’t don’t much with this car, but it has been annoying to work on. For that reason I’m probably going to eventually sell it in favor of an older Civic. But overall, I think this car deserves more attention.

  • @PiroFyre
    @PiroFyre 6 років тому +7

    I agree with you on the 8th gen but just on the motor. To me with driving both, I love the chassis of the 9th. It's slightly lighter and feels more stiff. Of course, the biggest thing it lacks was the 8000RPM redline and VTEC on the exhaust is missing too so VTEC doesn't hit as hard as with the 8th gen. I'm guessing they did this for emissions purposes or to save money. Still, one of the bigger complaints with all the previous Si models was the torque. Just like what Honda did with the S2000 and decided to give it a 2.2L in the later models, Honda gave the 9th gen a 2.4L, way more torque and you can feel it throughout the RPMs. It's great for daily driving and auto-x. After driving both and assessing what I wanted out of a daily driver, I still went with the 9th gen since it just feels way more comfortable to be in and drive. Also, driving on the freeway in 6th gear and flooring it, it picks up speed way faster than other Si models. Eventually, with time, I'll build a 2nd motor with a better head but for right now, I'm enjoying the car for what it is.

    Watching this video got me thinking about my last car. A 2007 white Honda Civic SI sedan. I ran a MAP based Hondata flash for years on that beaut, never even hiccuped once. I installed a variety of intakes on it, had a HFP front lip kit, lowered on Swift springs which were installed and aligned by the guys at Evasive Motorsports. It also had an Invidia Q300 exhaust, shifter bushings kit and a Skunk 2 shift knob=), debadged the DOHC I - VTEC stickers and named her " Pretty". I still am a believer in Honda as a company but moved on to another as an enthusiast. I am too old to be seen coming out of the new Civic Type R. I now daily drive a 2016 Ford Mustang GT premium I call " Petunia". I very rarely post comments online but seeing this vid triggered me. TBH, I guess I do still miss my old Honda and its 8,650 RPM song.

    I had a 1989 prelude and Accord,loved them never left me on the side of the road for years.I bet at least one of the two is still out there on the highway today, we just got a 2018 Accord I hope they didn't overcomplicate it with a turbo and CVT for the longevity.

    I agree. I own a 2008 Si Sedan in black like the one you drove. I cashed in a one year old 2014 Focus ST for it, and I have zero regrets. Best all-around drivers car I've owned, and I've had my fair share of 'sporty' cars.

    I wish I got that 😔. I love the 8th Gen Si’s. I feel like most have been beat up now. So I’m thinking of getting the 10th Gen Si in the future. I know no VTEC and no high revs but it’s still a great car to drive. I currently have a 2009 civic coupe Lx with ~120,000 miles

    My personal favorite is the K24 in the TSX. As much as I love the 06-11 Civic Si, I had to trade my Civic in because there was just nothing below 5,000 rpms. The K24A4 is a much more livable motor. I love having the ability to lug around town never breaking 3,000 on the tachometer but still being able to get that old school VTEC kick past 6,000 rpms. The K24A4 also revs to 7,800 when attached to a manual like my TSX which isn’t bad. It’s not 8,500, but I think it’s a good trade off. Kinda like the AP1 v AP2 S2000. The AP2 was a much better car when they bored out that motor.

    I get what you’re saying! Totally. Used to have an ‘07 Si and before that an integra GSR. I got an Elantra sport Turbo and it’s nothing like my old si, but it is definitely more practical in city driving with 200 hp AND tq. The transition to turbos are nice, but I’ll always miss the lovely sound of revving the snot out of that si on freeway entrances.

    I think most would agree that the 8th Gen Civic type R (FD2) was consider the "last true" type R--- high revving and made in Japan. I believe the 8th gens civic were also assembled in Japan, until the 9th-gen and onward were the civic was outsourced. The EK9 and the DC2 tupe r will always have a special place for my love of cars.

    I agree with your premise that the 8th gen Civics have the best look, drive, and feel of the newer Civics. They just feel right.
    Whether they are the last true Hondas with the formula you mentioned remains to be seen. Personally I like the 2006-8 look better than the facelifted 2009-11 ones. Also I think that 4 doors are 2 too many but that is also a personal preference. What is very non-Honda like about this gen is the transmission issues affecting the first roughly 2 1/2 years of production. (Honda TSB A08-020) There should have been an immediate recall and it should not have taken them that long to redesign the 3rd gear set. Makes me love the ones without that issue even more but Honda really sullied their reputation on that issue IMO. Great video!

    I LOVE Honda's. I've owned 3 motorcycles, 2 ATV's, 3 Accords, 2 Civics, and 2 CRV's... and a Honda lawnmower. My current driver is a 2007 Civic SI Coupe with a K20. I LOVE the high revs and it handles like it's on rails. I used to drive 74 miles one way to work and needed reliable transportation that wasn't expensive to insure or used too much gas. All of my Honda vehicles have gone over 200k miles without any major problems.

    Owned an 8th and 9th gen Si. A 2016 6-6 Accord coupe, and now an FK8 Type-R. My 07 Si was easily the most overrated looking back on it. Yeah it was fun to beat on it. But even wringing out every ounce of power it had... It wasn't that great of a driving experience. It was either drive normally and have no power, or drive like a douchey teenager, draw attention and still not keep up with any V6 midsized sedan. Modded, is a different deal. On a track, or curvy back road. Fine. Buy even then, it still sits dead last on my personal pecking order of fun Hondas. But I think there are different types of Honda people. I just think the newer stuff tends to be better all around, and we romanticize the older stuff. Good video nonetheless.

    Great video man and I also have a 09 Civic si I got it new back in 09. And I also made it look like one of a kind I got red decals custom done back in 2010 and red strip red I VTEC decals red jdm badges also and a knight Rider light in the grill. Had Transmission issues ever since I got the car in 09 but Honda wouldn't fix it so 3rd gear syncronizer went out then shift fork broke so gear was stuck in 4th got a deal on another transmission so when I was dropping subframe and etc I decided while I was at it put my Frankenstein k24 in it also it's a k24a2 I ordered it from jdm online a few months back then started building like I wanted it and it has k20Z3 head on it I has my rev limiter set for 8,400 rpm's and it runs great

    I Went from the 8th gen to a 2015 Si. I loved my 09, but there’s just something about the 9th gen. Just the right amount of refinement without being too luxurious... Granted, I like it a lot better after the RBC intake manifold swap. Lol. The top end was lacking stock. But FBO, RBC, Tune, and chasis upgrades, it’s a fun canyon carver

    I enjoyed the vid. Gained a sub. I have owned many performance vehicles from camaros to mazdaspeed to wrx and bmw 335. Obviously the power differential is quite dramatic from these cars but I own an 07 si coupe with a few mods and I have to say it is a blast to drive especially spirited driving. At the same time the low torque is a drag for the low rpm range but over 6k it's a whole different car

    Gary You really need to do a video over the starting point of Mitsubishi and its history. A lot of people dont realize that it is one of the oldest car companies ever and the company actually was founded in 1862 at the same time while the us was having a civil war. They were a machining company and a ship building company at that time. A lot of people dont realize that they are one of the biggest fighter jet companies of all time. Whith the Zero fighter jet in World war 2 and the new fighter jet X2 used by the Japanese air force. The X2 hands down actually is just as good as our f35 fighter jet. Mitsubishis machining tools and machines are actually dominate today. I used to be a machinist 5 years ago and we really utilized their equipment. A lot of people do not realise there electronic brands either. I really think you should do a beginning history of each major Japanese car companies on how they started. A lot of people think that these companies have only been around for 30-40 years.
