@@seeul8rwaynekerr okay, you can see the R7 is better on paper and in the flesh. CP2 is some of the best twin power. And that engine is totally handicapped from factory. Just upgrading the head almost puts you at 100whp. That platform has potential for BIG gains
I’m 6’3” and so it’s quite difficult to find a sport bike that fits me well. I had a ninja 650 before my current R7 which was insanely comfortable, but it’s more of a sport touring bike and lacked the torque and power I wanted. The R7 is the most comfortable bike I’ve been on that has a true sport riding position. The speed isn’t much more than the 650 but the torque is really nice to have, making wheelies super easy. The gas mileage isn’t bad and the sound is amazing once you remove the stock cat/muffler system. For the price range, I think the R7 is one of the best options out there for someone who wants a sport bike that isn’t overkill but is still quick enough to be fun for a long time. But just like all bikes to ever exist, first and most importantly you just need to sit on it and see how it fits you personally. Other than things that come down to just personal preference, this bike is damn near perfect for its class imo. It’s also super light and easy to corner
I would not call this expert bias or that the bike is confused, and instead say that you are just confused about what this bike was made for and why. You keep contradicting yourself all the way through the video.
The R7 is not confused. It has a much steeper rake in the front, a shorter trail in the rear, and the riders weight over the front tire. This bike was made to destroy corners and be stable doing it.
The riding position is too focused for road use. Would make sense on a track. But then the engine doesn't make sense on the track. It's literally a sports bike without the engine.

I can respect your opinion and can understand where your coming from I'm 35 and have road all kinds of bikes and to me the best street bike to ride is the 07-08 cbr600rr it's light, has linear power handles like a dream better then any 1000cc or 600cc I've ridden and I can sit up decently comfy when I want too but still get the power for straight aways, wheelies and awesome fun on the twisties without the overkill of power that the liter bikes give and don't have any of those rider adds it's just all you controlling the bike those 2 years honda made something special before the bullshit emissions changes if anyone is thinking of getting a R7 I'd recommend looking at the 07-08 cbr600rr that bike is better in almost every way and cheaper but probably won't be as cheap in the next couple years since they don't make cbr600rr here anymore in the US it'll probably go up in value eventually

The quickshifter with bliper works like butter, feels great and the bike is not only beautyfull looking but also very comfortable. Forks and shock are adjustable. The Sound is amazing. Sounds very similar to older Ducatis. Eventhough it's only a 660. But when you look at it subjective, if you don't like 2cyl. But 4cyl. or if you have concerns in reliability and you are not interested in all the electfonics + adjustability in your suspension than maybe the CBR650R is the bike for you. The R7 is just to underpowerd, I stand to my opinion that they should have build a R9 instead of the R7. The step from R3 to R7 is just to small, eventhough I understand that it makes more sense buisness wise with all the regulations for new and or beginer riders and in Europe with the A2 regulations...
For £100 less in most countries other than America you can get yourself a cbr650r then this really makes no sense 😂 never thought it would work when they cancelled the r6 tbh
Q? Is there anybody alive in the world who is a beginner, is buying a mint new bike AND going to track days, on that very same brand new bike? I doubt this is even a possibility, as newbies just do not have the budget. But IF they do exist & would follow this route, they do not have the sense in their head to survive to become an experienced rider. Plus if they're out there they wont be for long as they're the type that thinks a large wallet makes them a more superior person & above the consequences of harm that motorbikes can cause & need different advice. Better they and every other new rider is told if they must buy 1 new bike for the road, also buy 1 old cheap bike for the track, it's just not worth the risk to your new pride & joy. Thus making the R7 a poor purchase choice & wrong from design concept all the way to the showroom's door exit, unless you severely dig the looks and are hindered by insurance costs on having your dream full on sports bike. Yamaha would of been wiser making a MT07R, beginning with upgraded suspension than making a 2nd poor version of the original & iconic R7
If this is a "Beginner Bike" shouldn't you have a beginner rating it? Expert riders can't experience beginner anymore.. You guys should have a beginner rate what they like about it. To me it's like a person that knows how to cook a steak and what it's supposed to taste like, compared to a person that can't cook but is learning and burnt steak actually taste fine to them.
Sport bike ergos aren't for everyone. Despite being deep in my 50s, I am in good physical shape and am fine with them. Haha, "no punch in 6th gear on the highway"? My R1s had no punch in 6th gear on the highway... I would shift them down too... well actually I would also cruise in 4th or 5th since they are geared so high.
In Australia, learner limit is 660cc. Makes perfect sense for new riders who want a simple, sports feeling bike. Don’t see the rationale for other countries.
It's just underpowered--- and before anybody comes in and says "well for the street rah rah...." -- sure, but the CBR650 is pushing 95HP? Rs660 via Aprilia 100-- that's what we're asking for. The sweet spot is a linear, torque-y, road oriented 100-115 HP range for an ideal road oriented sport bike. Ducati nailed it with the SuperSport S but the price of course is much more. The R7 at 100HP would sell amazingly.
@@adolfshitler I have several bikes including an SV650--- I have the SV for just zipping around town or a local twisty and it's great for that. For a proper faired sportbike tho you will want more power-- that is if you're intermediate and up in skill level.

Ahhhhhh. You said you won't be able to feel it on the street, bbbbbut you did. Its simple if ya want an upright naked bike get an mt07. If ya want a sportbike get the r7. The r7 is what its supposed to be and all the negative things you say about it is it just being what it is. As far as the price, go find a fully adjustable kyb upside down fork to put on an mt 07. Guarantee that will eat up the price difference right there.
Unpopular opinion: Spite is correct. This is the ultimate compromise-bike. Literally combines the worst of both worlds, no naked bike comfort and no sport bike performance. I also believe that the R7 to R1 pipeline is significantly more dangerous than the R6 to R1 transition; if someone is used to romping on a forgiving naked Twin, then applies that same throttle technique to a Four Cylinder SuperSport they are in for a hairy experience.
ding ding you win the actually understand what spite is saying award. this bike literally makes no sense other than “it looks like a sport bike, but I have no skill to ride an R6 fast”.

I'm convinced most if the vitriol is coming from the first jobbers who are telling everybody they know about this "sick bike" they're gonna get, and we all know theyll end up settling for a bicycle with cards in the spokes. 😂😂
They need to change cam profiles for the R7 and trick out the valve train for a bit more top end and peak power. Doesn't have to be a 16,000 RPM screamer to accomplish this. You could afford to sacrifice 10-15 ft-lbs of torque in the bottom end for the gain of another ~25 hp in the mid/top end and still have something very streetable. Making this bike a force to compete with multiple platforms including the RS660, the Ninja650 & ZX6R among others.

You're right, Spite. Things like RS660 and CBR650R makes more sense for road oriented sportbike. Yamaha with R7 was trying to fill the hole in their portfolio with minimum effort. I think that Ninja 650 makes more sense than that I-want-to-be-a-sportbike-thing because Kawi has sport-touring ergo, feeling and powerband - it just don't pretend to be a sportbike. (And now I'm counted as Kawi fanboi 😅) CP2 is a good engine but I don't feel it in sportbike package. That's what makes this bike wrong. It will be not enough for rest of the package in long run. It will make you frustrated because you will sit on the bike and feel that sportiness but engine will never have that feeling. I think that Yamaha made poor trick to take our money. If I were looking for midrange sportbike I will look for a Honda or pay more for Aprilia. Sorry Yamaha, you failed with this bike. But it doesn't matter because Yamaha fanbois will glorify this bike forever, even if it not deserves it.
Personally, someone can easily trick you into buying a clapped out bike by making it look good. I trust the dealership for quality . It is more expensive but it’s more likely you’ll get a bike with no issues. Plus you get a warranty . Buying a used r6 and it has blown forks or some other mechanical issue is the fear for me

Might as well get a GSX-R600 2004-2005 or CBR600RR 2005-2006. They're made out of good materials to this day. It's a purchase you will not regret. Inline four's is where it's at anyways. Bikes before were still a bit retro. Bikes after went over the top.
I just don't grasp why anyone would make a 700cc beginner bike. I was hoping that someone other than Suzuki would come out with a 750rr and this is what I get? I really would like to get a fuel injected YZFR or ZX, CBR 750, apparently only Suzuki will make something with more punch than a 600 without the outright insanity of a 1000 It makes zero sense that a 700 would be weaker than the 600rr. start on a 250, 300 or something like that then get the 600 LOL
They made the R7 as mid level bike. They discontinued the R6 because with certain upgrades the R6 is basically an R1, n yamaha wants their money by trying to sell more R1s, n the R7 is there because there needs to be a middle level bike between the R3 n R1. Do not buy the R7, it is weak as shit.
