The R7 is like a Ninja 650. They are both bikes you can learn on & also grow into at the same time, and personally I think they're some of the few bikes you can comfortably and confidently do that on. If you have absolutely zero experience on motorcycles, a 300/400 class is perfect. But if you have even the smallest amount of experience around motorcycles, discipline & self-control, a slightly bigger bike the the R7 or 650 is more than feasible.

@@steezy1692 Especially dirtbikes. You'd be surprised at how much it transfers over to street. The biggest issue most people have is getting used to traffic & especially riding on the freeway. A lot of my friends avoided the freeways and major roads for the first 2-4 weeks of riding. #1 thing you should do first and foremost though is take the basic MSF class. Its incredibly helpful for new riders. Plus its an easy way to get your M endorsement.

I have been riding dirt bikes for 10 years, everything from a 100cc to a 450cc. Everywhere I go, people recommend the R3 for a first time sports bike but I am torn between the R3 and R7. You think the R7 would be appropriate? I have good clutch / brake / throttle control, and ride on the Mx tracks (not trails).

I can see how this conversation will be in 30 years…. Should you start on this underpowered 100 hp starter bike or go ahead and step up to the 175 hp middle weight bike that you can grow into.
Probably, with new tech (traction control, throttle limits, torque limits, power level selection, wheelie control, ABS brakes, better rubber compounds and suspension), then yeah it probably will be like that. Plus with other advancements like lighter materials, it will probably weigh less than the 250cc I learned on at 14 (which was lighter than the 175cc old 2 stroke I had driven in fields a little before getting my bike). Then if its turbocharged or supercharged like 300-350cc for the 100 HP it could have some decent low end performance too (especially supercharged), very possible and likely!
With electric bikes you just buy it locked at 40hp, then pass the exam and unlock 100hp and then the final one for the full 299hp.

You can buy an A2 restrictec MT07 on an A2 plate and when you get your full A licence you can have it retuned to stock and get it get it redesignated to an a normal non testricted licenceplate.

For aspiring riders out there: go with the smaller bike. I started on an R6 before any of these "small" bikes were invented and let me tell you, the novelty of that bike wore off quick. I ended up selling it 3 years after purchase with only 2400 miles on it (basically looked brand new) because I never rode the thing. So uncomfortable, power and gearing were completely off for the street. Just listen to the big bros on this one with more experience. Grab an R3 and decide if sport bike is what you wanna even go with -- oh and it's half the price of an R7 with insane gas mileage.

600s are just fine for the street. Tired of hearing all this stupid shit honestly. I started on a Ducati 999 and got a zx6r later as my daily. After a couple months of riding with no close calls, I realized all the 600 hate is from weak fat retards who have no core strength or impluse control. You can learn on a 600 JUST fine if you have a modicum of self-control. They behave like a 400 below 8k rpms. Just because it wasn't right for you doesn't mean it isn't for others.

Finally saw both in person and sat on both I instantly fell in love with the r7.
As someone who has never road, backpacked or even touched a motorcycle before getting an r7 as my first bike, I think it was a great choice, I know I won’t ever get a bigger bike because I wouldn’t be able to touch the ground (for reference I am a 22 yo 5’ 3” female) and I didn’t find it difficult to get down the basics and more intermediate skills on this bike. I have only been riding for 2 months and am self touch and only dropped it once while parking. I would recommend this bike to any of my friends who are bigger than me because when I sat on and road my friends r3 I knew I wouldn’t have been happy with it for more than a month.
I'm 5 3 to and I want one but I'm not sure if I can touch the ground😂 any tips on this or something

I really needed this comment! I’m a 6’1” 21 year old male from the Netherlands and I was first stuck between the r7 and cbr650r. Mind you I have to restrict the bike to 35kw due to the laws here until i’m 24. Now I’ve been wondering if the r7 would be overwhelming and I would be better off with a “cheaper” r3. I’m 100% sure I would get bored of the r3 in a week and the low end torque of the r7 would be enough for me to have quite some fun for the time being.
Love my little R3. It's a bit buzzy at Texas highway speeds (80+ mph) and the lack of power shows in group rides. But for someone new learning to ride twisties and back roads, it's so great. You can rev it out without getting into too much trouble. Been on it for about 4k miles now, looking at possibly upgrading to the RS 660 if I can find one

I'd have to ask the noob a few questions, but up to a 400 ninja, duke 390, I'd say start on those OK!. for the classes u used to bring your own bike and it had to meet certain small bike requirements cc or Hp. kept people from starting too big, but then some would borrow friends uknow..
@@ribalderr6052 I still have my 2020 Ninja 400. I put 13k miles on it and about to go through the $1,100 service soon. Very great bike. I rode a friend's cbr600rr and it's cool and everything (prefer the highway or track) but when I got back on the Ninja it felt even better.

I also have a R3 , it’s a bit shaky to me on the highway. Only been on hwy 35 like 8 times. Love it for the city though. Gonna try out a 150 rear tire and see if that helps on the highway with those winds. Crazy Texas weather 💪🏽

I started on a R7 & it’s funny because this bike was picked for me. This is my beginner bike and honestly it comes down to discipline and respecting the throttle. I’ve been having lots of fun on it and even still I don’t think I’ll be able to outgrow it for awhile. I’d recommend the R7

As a short rider, I bought a 2016 Yamaha R3, primarily due to it's super low seat height.
Commuted on her daily, all year round, for 7 years as well as doing 15 track days on her and riding most weekends with my partner who rides a Triumph Daytona 675. SO flickable on the track.
I've now clocked over 135,500 kilometres on her. This engine is indestrucible!
I also own a 2018 Triumph Street Triple R (low seat height version) Same seat height as the R3 - guess which bike I still prefer?!?

Now that I’ve watched this review I’ve decided to start on an H2
I see alot of one handed turns and riding in general. In any event, the r3 or any "little" bike can get away from you or surprise you. It gets up to a speed that can be a task to stop in time given any sudden obstacle. New riders should ALWAYS look far ahead and scan. Remember one of the reasons speed limits exist is that the distance to obstacles is greatly underestimated and results in new riders and intermediate even running into trouble sometimes with fatal consequences. Practice stopping as hard as you can in an empty parking lot. Check road surface before doing so of course, but practice that alot!! This in addition to everyday riding can greatly improve your chances of having an incredible and safe experience. And don't forget to keep both your hands on those grips as much as possible🤛🤜

@@asalsy Funny that you and alot of other riders say this about the R7 but then the MT 07 is beloved by quite a few experienced riders. Really is a testament to how ergos make a bike.
one handed riding u see is the sport bike guys sitting up for some wrist relief and to uncramp from that God awful-for-street cramped up bent in half riding position. it gives a little relief.
Right on the money regarding mastering a smaller less powerful bike rather than growing into the bike. As a very older (56) rider I am so glad that I went with an MT-03 as my fear factor was actually higher now than it would have been 40 years ago....something to do with wisdom, I think!
I disagree. I think you learn bad habits on smaller bikes. Such as having to give it waaay more throttle to get moving, or an upright seating position giving you the tendency to put too much weight on your wrists when you switch to real sportbikes. Braking is about the same, but leaning into a turn, and how quickly they turn on some smaller bikes can hurt you when you get to bigger bikes. Also, how far the bars turn before maxing would be very difficult when going from say a small naked bike to a 600cc or 1000cc sportbike. Likely have some dropped bikes making u turns. I started on a 1000cc back in 2003, and I'm glad I did.

@@steve00alt70 those same foundations can be learned on the big bike. I did. Lots have. Gotta have self control with the throttle on a big bike. You'd have to explain what foundation you get on a small bike that isn't learned on a big bike. There are only 2 benefits I see to starting on a small bike: 1, less cost in every area, and 2, it's a lot harder to get yourself into more trouble as quickly (such as going too fast for your ability, a small bike takes much longer to get to the same speed).
@@josiahwright7114 The thing is a beginner doesn't know where the trouble begins the way an experienced person does. That's the point of a smaller/weaker bike because it's harder to get into trouble with the lack of power and when you do get into trouble it's easier to get out of due to the light weight and forgiving maneuverability. With something like an R6 you're on the razors edge in every corner. I remember being deep into sweeping turns at 60 mph and the bike barely felt like I was pushing it, always begging for more. For beginners, it's better to be feeling the opposite -- you are pushing the bike for all it's worth but instead you're going 45 mph. The bike will reveal its limitations before you find out the hard way...
wise man. i think were a bit past the need for restricted learner type regulations here. wouldnt want as much as bad as the UK, but some limits of some type following their structure, ie: max Hp, power-to-weight, etc. too many never rode nuthin noobs starting on a 600cc. (or more!) and on sportbikes nontheless.
Well base on what i've watched, i think i picked the R3 because as a beginner, you will enjoy it in short and long rides👍nice one guys, keep up.

i started my motorcycle journey last year because of this channel. I'm 32 and my first bike was a 2006 SV 650 (i paid 2k). It was the perfect amount of power for me. I'm 6'4 and 230 lbs.

2020 R3? The bike is quite a looker, one advantage of being old is that peer pressure isn't such a big factor in your decision making so I would gladly keep an R 3 around for a long time if I got one.
Got an R3 last year. It's a bit cramped, but it feels like a proper sports bike which fulfills my childhood fantasy.
got a year on the R3?. bigger bike=more room!. lol. get the R7 if u got the means. but if your cramped from that sport bike position, try some nakeds. a triumph trident 660. naked 3 cylinder. famous engine/sound, famous handling. low price. NOT too much bike for u. great looking, great value, great performance, smooth.
MT-07. same great R7 engine, your natural yamaha progression, but naked. = comfortable. so much more power than R3, but thin, light, flickable n easy to ride.
go test ride, they dont mind, they wanna sell bikes. car AND bike salesman will tell u if they can get customers to drive that shiny new bike/car they know alot of time they got a sale.
so know- your going to LOV LOV any new an bigger bike u test drive. promise yourself not to fall in lov impulse purchase it right there an then. get off walk out waving ur hand say "its nice, Ill think about it" and dont get into convo with them about buying. lol. ride everything u can in that next step up category.

I have ridden a few quads in my life. At 23 Y/O I bought my Yamaha R7, my very first bike ever. Still learning but I don't believe it is a bad bike to learn on. Never been on another bike in my life. I love my R7 though

@Coldwave7344 Treat every bike the same when starting out. Treat it like it's your very first time doing anything. Slow and careful. Respect the machine. The bike has power, maybe not as much as a liter bike, but you can definitely loop it if you dump the clutch. So take it slow. It sits a little tall for me, though, as my inseam is 28 inches (I'm a short guy) I was always worried about flat footing a bike until I did a basic riders course. Always have 1 foot on the rear brake when stopped and the other foot on the ground. That's what they tell you anyway lol. But as a first bike, it was probably the best ever, not too little of a bike but also not too big. It has torque for fun twisty times and it can get up too speed quick enough if needed. I hope you enjoy if u get it!!! If ur short you can always lower the bike too!

I started on an r3 before I got my open license and bought a larger bike.. Imo unless you’re a big person and just can’t fit on the r3 comfortably, it’s a no brainer to choose it over an r7. Main reason being you can probably get one for half the price of an r7 and they are basically equally powerful but you can really use the entire rev range on the r3. I can’t fault the r3 at all, i really loved it, its basically a perfect bike for commuting and learning or just fun in general. So efficient and reliable, over 3 years I just changed the battery. Once you’re comfortable and feel ready for an upgrade then the HO (unrestricted) r7 would be a good step up and it would probably be a lot cheaper by then. I really don’t see any reason to buy the restricted r7 to learn on other than fomo/peer pressure, being very large or if you’re lucky money isn’t a factor

Its always more fun to ride fast smaller displacement bikes than riding a large displacement bikes slow.

Started with a 2015 R3 in CA. Moved back to PA and picked up a salvage 2006 R6 for the track. Definitely nice having less $$$ into something. I still have both and am into both less than a R7.
R1 obviously, they are ranked in safety levels. R3 is the second safest. R7 is dangerous as fuck. How did you think I convinced my parents to get me a R1?
Well I bought the R7 as my first bike at 26 having had a little experience with dirt bikes and after taking a safety course. Maybe the R3 would have been better for me to start but it is what it is!

Keep it for a while and if it doesn't work you can always sell it. I'm also 26 and have rs660 that thing gets me after like 3 hours (it's hella fun tho) and it's not even as agressive like R7.The point i want to get to is eventually I'll switch to a naked bike that i can ride all day without having to rest.
The fact that you would even consider maybe the R7 was not the best choice, and you took the safety course tells me you are gonna be fine. Too many people try to grow into the bike they get with little regard to learning curve, you understand you didn't make the perfect choice but you have the common sense to approach it safely. When I got back into riding, I bought a Suzuki c50 because I knew I was too rusty for something fun lol. Ride safe brother!

i’m starting on an r6 was going pretty good until winter hit i only had it for a month or 2 before i wasn’t able to ride it anymore:( i still actively watch videos for beginners everyday but prolly gonna feel brand new when i get a chance to ride again.
People here treating R3 as a beginner bike but here in my country its is literally a super bike for us.(yes some people also have 1000cc bikes but they are so rare may be you will see them once or twice in a year)

The r3 is a super fun bike and it seems like tons of people act like it's bland as fuck because it's not a 600 or 1000 I have fun shifting all they way to 6th gear on the highway and shifting to 4th in city streets plus its cheap fun *in america* I don't think I'll get rid of the r3 for a while

I'm 49 never rode before .lost my job when covid first was introduced. Anyway bout a2020 R3 in 2020 chopped the cat off put on a M4 slip on dynojet power comnder ecu flashed . ton of other mods and love it
you can buy an used r3 for half the price and still have fun, and if you drop you would loose less money

@@chasewilbur851 Yeah even if you insist on new bike now, getting an R3 will mean in a few years after you total it you'll have enough money left over to buy a used R7.
Its kind of like how a used GSX-R 1000 is about $3500 (depending how modified, some WAY too much....), or you can get a new one (granted its a lot newer features) for about $16,000. Like even if it holds its value that much better than the GSX-R 600cc, you've still lost almost $13,000 on it (which is more than a brand new 600cc)
Great review. I'm tossing up between the R3 and R7 for my first bike. I think you've convinced me to start with the R3 until I'm more confident and comfortable on a Sports Bike, then upgrading to a R7 or R6 after ~2 years.

Great video. I started with Panigale 899 with zero experience, if you feel comfortable and if you keep it calm in traffic you'll be fine anyway. Ride safe everyone
This one is a little tricky. I think a big factor is your endgame. If your goal is to be on top of a liter bike, it would have to be the R7. The skinny tires on the R3 require absolute minimum lean angle in turns. And little to no set up, which is required on the liter bike to compensate for the top heavy i4. That second part is true for the R7 as well, but at least it has bigger tires and you can get more accustomed to committing to the lean. If you have an MSF course in your area that is a true MSF course and not a "How to ride a Harley Course", the R7 is the better option. All the MSF courses in my area are run by Harley riders that think they know everything about riding motorcycle. But they don't know anything about the nuances of riding a supersport. A Harley and a supersport are 2 very different animals. The other option is having a friend that rides sport bikes teaching you. Your likely going to be overconfident and underprepared for the R1 coming off the R7. But the R3 needs a step between it and the R1. Which is why eliminating the R6 was really a bad thing. The current idea is you need a year or 2 on a beginner, then 2 to 3 years on an intermediate, and then the liter bike. If you follow that logic and go R3 then R7, you've got up to 5 years of developing habits that may not translate well to the R1. When I started riding, if your wanted to go supersport, your only option was to start on an i4 600. You didn't have an R3 or Ninja 400 or even an R7 for that matter. But if I were starting out today, knowing I wanted to be on a liter bike somewhere down the road, it would be the R7.

When I took my MSF course someone asked the instructors what would make a good first bike. Both instructors agreed ... 'anything under 1,000cc' . I nearly fell of my chair.

I can remember having stopped riding several years and hearing about these classes to get a license endorsement, and thought "why does anyone need a class to ride a motorcycle?", but then it was mostly guys, an we all learned on small dirt bikes, and rode dirt as kid an teen first street bike after 8 years riding dirt was a 350. it would be several more years then a 550, then several more years to a 750.
its very different now the many new riders and the powerful bikes whether nakeds or sport. not a good mix. I endorse taking a class, and even go as far as recommending UK type restrictions by age, cc, power-to-weight or something to prevent this "take the class, get a panigale".
u see austin texas on the news about all the sport bike riders dying there. its common enough to make the news. Im a freedom loving patriotic veteran, but damn, we need some regulations. noob + high power sport bikes nowadays= not good.
u know young guys think they can do anything, cannot die, and they're bulletproof. its testosterone. its an affront to their machismo. while true some can start on a 1000, thats very few. I mean, V-E-R-Y few. theres one-in-a-million guys can walk on pro league an throw a perfect spiral 100 yards into a bucket. but for the other 99%, there needs to be some instruction and limitations. it should already be so imo.
I sat thru the class as a returning experienced rider, not expecting to learn anything, but actually got into it, the knowledge training wasnt aimed at me, I aced the riding part an the written test, but it was good to refresh, and I learned quite a few new things also. good good., no downside there. I kept thinking, ye, this would be good to know if u never rode a bike before.
as for more regulations limiting size, hp, cc or something, I think some reasonable and prudent people need to intervene here, I know some wont like it, but I'm convinced its time.
may I ask where was this?, was this a fully accredited state sponsored MSF course??. age and experience of these "instructors"?. I'm afraid Im the type I would have called that one in to MSF hierarchy. definitely. how was the rest of the class?.
Seen a youner guy on tiktok who was fairly new to riding, he got a brand new R7, two months later he was basically a quadriplegic, I dont understand how people could even begin to think that a 450lb vehicle with 75 hp is begginer friendly or even remotely slow

i 100% agree, ive owned both, an 09 Fz6R and currently have a 08 FZ6... omg the difference and what a diamond in the rough the FZ6 is, imo having never ridden the sv650 i feel as though the fz6 is better hahah and deserves recognition

If you have any sense of throttle control you can learn on anything. 5 years ago I bought 150cc scooter to get myself to work and back. Then sold it because I got a car. Just a few months ago I decided I wanted to a get full size bike and bought a 2019 Harley fatbob, I’ve had 0 issues learning how to ride on it.
Yamaha should basically offer a program where you buy an R3 for 6-11.9 months, then you can trade it in (-500 bucks from purchase initial price, depending on mileage) and get yourself either and R7 or MT07.
8999 - (5299-500) = 4200 to upgrade to R7
7699 - (5299-500) = 2900 to upgrade to MT07
Sure they’ll just lose tons of money to make riders happy

I got a FZR 600 with 95 HP and a new 2022 R3, and let me tell you one thing, you are not always in the mood to rev the max out of it, or getting forced by the Engine to go fast as you can, the best is you have more then one in your Garage :)
And yes, riding the R3 is just very relaxed.
Year and a half later and 15k miles later I feel confident saying I am a highly skilled rider and after 10k miles on my r3 I was outriding 600’s and I know more about how to ride than some big ego’d litre bike boys. Ended up buying a cbr 1k and people made it seem like it was impossible to lean and ride the bike on the track. And because of my knowledge on riding I was whipping that bike like it was a 300😅 moral of the story. Put your pride to the side and get a 3 or 400 for your beginner bike and actually learn how to ride with out all the rider aids and not to ride reserved. Lear how to use all
The power of a bike before u ride a 600 or 1k. They are unforgiving and no one is gonna clown u too hard for getting a beginner bike as a beginner.
I started with a 2003 Ninja250 back in 2007. I loved that bike, got it with only 3K miles. Ended up upgrading to a Yamaha R6 a year later and held on to it for about 4 years.
I Haven't been on a bike since 2012 and looking to get back on it! looking for that perfect bike to get be back on the road
R3, CBR300 and Ninja 400 are all pretty much the same bike with minor differences that don't matter for most beginner riders especially. Been on all 3, Ninja 400 had SLIGHTLY more go and I found it more comfortable. R3 would be my 2nd choice. Wouldn't recommend the Honda as it was the "slowest" and least comfortable.

I picked up an R3 on A2 license in the UK, fantastic beginner bike for our roads and learning your craft before moving onto an A - unrestricted license. If you are upgrading from what is considered a beginner bike in the UK (125cc) then this certainly feels a step up and will give you a lot of laughs (you gotta put a pipe on it!!) however, If I was 25+ on an unrestricted license I’d probably be more likely to consider the Aprilia RS660 or Yamaha R7✌🏼
R7 can be ridden on A2. Just needs a restrictor kit which you take off when you pass your full A 🤷
I went from 125cc to 600cc after completing my DAS. 600cc feels like a much more complete bike and it a lot nicer to ride. As long as you’ve got decent throttle control then go for the bigger one. I got a CBR 600 F 2014 btw.

@@SonOfMiguel Agreed, I learned to ride on an A2 restricted Z650 (hated that bike but still) - if you’re confident in your ability and have the additional budget for a restricted middle weight bike it’s a great option and saves you needing to sell and buy another bike once passing the A cat license!

Well, I started out on a 2020 Honda super cub and 8000 miles later less than a year later I’m still riding it. It’s just the right thing to do.
I had my '21 R3 for 5 months (my first road bike ever) and then traded it in for my R7. I loved the R3, but the weight of the R7 makes it better on the highway, the front brake is WAY better, and I prefer the torque. Granted I an expert level MX rider, and am very experienced with bikes in general. Styling is way better on the 7 as well. I would like to look at an MT-10SP as my next bike, solely based upon riding position & comfort
Not tryna be nosey but what did they pay for your R3 ? What was the miles on it? I have a r3 and want to do the same , but mine has 2800 miles and I’m not sure what dealer will pay for the bike I owe a bit still
I just got my first street bike today. My father got me a ninja 250r with 1,000 miles and everything was brand new on it for really cheap. I'm barely 17 so much time to eventually grow into bigger bikes.
Hey Yam, just an idea, when you do ergonomics on motorcycles, could you possible have a smaller rider check it out too like josh or whitney since than are shorter than you and Spite being 5-11 & 6-4, doesn't really give shorter/ smaller riders any thing to compare too.

Dear lord I love the R3. Had it for 4 years now, such a good motorcycle!
The R3 will make you a faster rider because you can force the bike to the limit but its not going to kill you and its not so punishing on making mistakes. Granted personal weight does matter so if youre a big and or tall person the R7 will have a better power to weight ratio as the R3 will struggle to move them as quickly but the R3 is a much better teaching device and skill enhancer than an R7 is. This is also so highly dependent with how you, as a rider/driver are able to handle power. Bigger bikes and more powerful cars implement a lot of electronic safety systems and drive modes to assist you because a liter bike is a lot and even if you had it on lowered power output you wouldnt want to learn on it and the R7 doesnt even offer this as an option and the lower power output isnt that far off from the R7, like wise I doubt you would want to learn to drive a car in a hellcat or even a V8 powered car at all because if you arent careful they can and will get away from you and the worst part is since youre so new you wouldnt have the skills to save your self or your ride. Ride safe and learn to ride a slow bike fast.

Spot on gents!! What they said at the end about getting 2 for the price of 1 is totally legit because I’m living it. For the price of that R7 I’ve been able to get an XT250 dual sport and an R3 plus the riding gear for both disciplines. At my novice skill level I doubt I’d miss what the R7 can offer over the R3 that much.
Finally Yamaha R3 launching in India this December. After all these years....I have a yamaha r15 v3 right now. Really looking forward to it.
Look guys that are new If you wanna spend under $6k sensibly or don't want the R7 ergos check out the NINJA 400 brand new, best value you can get and the 50hp parallel twin is way more lively than R3 unit imo... Yammie you should definitely compare the 400 to one of these bikes

The fact that im sitting here as a 16 year old in the Netherlands and that i have to start on a 125cc bike on the age of 18 and that im not allowed to start on something like the Kawasaki 400 (or R3 in this case) really bothers me. I think that here in the EU you should be able to start with A2 license. because with my future study i need to drive a long distance over the highway and with a 125cc its just that i have the feeling you don't have enough power to go on the highway, it really sucks.

Switzerland just switched to the european system the 1st January. But not with the same age requirement as yours.
16yo is open to A1 license (max of 125cc and 11KW of power)
18+ are open to A2 license (max of 35KW and max maximum ratio of 0.2KW/Kg)
Unlimited A license after 2 years of A2 without any major infraction that would cause a license withdrawal.
The new system removed the old strictly age based one. So the drawback is only for older riders 25+ who are now forced for 2 years on a restricted license.
Yeah I understand your worries, I had a ktm duke 125 for 3 years, it's great but not on the highway. But for most ppl it's not bad to start on a 125. If you are older you can start on something bigger anyway. If possible I would commute with a car and drive the 125 as fun bike untill you can get something bigger. I don't like to ride highways with my xsr700 even, I just don't enjoy it much on a naked bike, and it's still dangerous with any bike, but with a 125 you are constantly pushing it to the max and don't have any power left to avoid a dangerous situation like a car or truck switching lanes on you. I wouldnt do it daily but that's just me.

I bought an r3 been on it I would have been in way more trouble with something bigger with my daredevil nature I'm glad I stared small otherwise I might not be riding anything but a wheelchair like a couple of my friends who skipped to a r6. Personally I want to upgrade to the r7 then to something like a Ducati v2 or Aprilia when the money is right. Love the twin instant power delivery.
I live in the northeast which means, unfortunately, I can’t ride this time of year. Too damn cold. I have to wait until spring and get by with playing motorcycle video games and watching videos from you lucky boys who can ride all year round 😢😢
I disagree. At first the R3 might be better but very quickly you will find yourself so comfortable that you will be bored and then want the R7. It doesn't take that long to get used to a faster bike even for a beginner
you mean in a straight line? i doubt youve taken the r3 or r7 to an actual track to improve your times. Theres no way most people would even reach max potential on a r3 if they hit the track. But fir boomers that only buy hellcats and liter bikes to go fast for a few seconds in straight lines i guess you make sense.

This is true. I got an R7 as my first bike. The first time I sat on it in the dealership I was like….. this is aggressive. Sitting on it for a couple days in the garage while my gear came in the mail. Damn this is aggressive. Actually going out on my first ride, the discomfort went away and it felt amazing. It’s as tame or jerky as you choose to make it.
I wanted a Yamaha R7, but not dealership had one near me, so I bought a Yamaha R3. I once made a trip with it that’s 430km long.
As a ninja 300 owner of 2 years, I’ve tried out growing my bike but I’ve realized it’s a lot harder than I thought. Besides a not so crazy top speed I realized this thing in the twisties is a lot harder to master than I thought. I’m hoping to take it to the track this year but don’t think you are too good for a 30hp motorcycle because it will surprise you I promise!
First bike was the Ninja400 but basically the same thing. You get used to the acceleration but it's still fast enough to cause trouble and put a smile on your face. 100% agree on the rest, so much more to learn than accelerating. WIll probably keep for at least another year to become better at cornering, twisties and hopefully a track day or two to skill up before deciding to go bigger.
Really enjoyed u guys giving advice for different size riders! I am 6'4" too and looking to get my first sport bike. Some people have told me I'm a bit too tall for sport bikes
I have 2 Gsx-Rs, 1 is 1000cc and the other is a baby 125cc. Sometimes i still go for the 125cc cause its nice to bang 6 gears till the red line, where with the liter bike you'll be lucky to bang 2 gears without risking your life.
so why noy get something in the middle ? the ZX4R was announced but details arent coming along yet but it should be a I4 400CC, so a screamer, but one where you can still bang 3 or 4 gears safely without yeeting yourself into outer space
@@TheKitt12 i love that, but from where i am vehicles are very expensive, for example my gsxr 125cc i bought it €4,400. A yamaha R6 is €14,600. So a 400cc 4 cylinder will still be an expensive bike.
what yam and spite talk about the bike is on the spot but theres another factor that you guys need to consider that is "where did you live" if you live ln place like yams, alot of empty road, long highway it's not a that bad choice if you choose R7 but if you live in crowded country and non accessible highway for bike i guarantee you don't want to daily an R7, R3 have alot cooler engine if you trapped in traffic, R3 have really good ergonomic if you also trapped in traffic. and for a place that have alot of traffic light you could play with the bike more than an R7 where you mostly will stuck at gears 1 and 2 then already stopped again waiting for the green light
I had an R3 and I'm leaning towards an R7 just because R3 is good enough for the first 3 months of learning but then you'll realize you would want more power.

I recommend a turbo Hayabusa for beginner riders. It's easy to get into and you just need to respect the bike
So in the Cbr650r vs R7 the answer was RS660. Now in the R3 vs R7 the answer is Ninja 400. Poor Yamaha just can't catch a break

300 is best beginners bike. They need light and maneuverability!! I learned in dirt and on snow. It saved me countless wrecks, when I hit oil patches or just to much throttle in corner.
Funny remark about the throttle. I started on SV1000S and developed a really delicate throttle hand. I have ridden it for 2 years and am yet to open it all the way
If I wanted a low CC bike it would be the Ninja 400 and if I wanted a middleweight it would be an MT07 (possibly an SV670 if I find one cheap enough). I would've loved an R7 if it had R3 ergos.
I think you can rise the clipons on the R7, and an aftermarket set of rearsets would also def give you options.
@@Daniel-dj7fh Yeah ergo's are always adjustable. Heli-bars will probably make a set of riser clip-ons for it that will lift your hands quite a bit. (Of course those are kinda pricey new.) That said the ergo's on the R7 are actually right in my sweet spot for a street bike. Can't please everyone all the time.
I have the 2020 Ninja 400 and got it brand new. I put 12k on it and still enjoy it. It has all the power I need. If I wanted a bigger bike I'd get a CBR650R.
@@sambeezy007 I've also considered the 650r as an upgrade to my cb500f which I've been riding for over 3 years now. But I've heard the gearing is really long (from Papa Yams) and I think because of that alone I'd then tend to the R7.
But honestly, don't really need more power to have fun. I'm already barely getting the engine to spool up the 4th gear before being too fast for the streets (legally).
@@kleinbottled79 The ergos on the R3 are pretty much the same as that of a sportier naked bike, and personally I'd also risk the biscuit on the slightly more agressive ergos on the R7. But I am also still young, and my back is not completely done for yet.
Finally the video i expected since 2015. I prefer the R3, because its a mini honda vfr 750
I've had my R3 since 2015 and still love riding it every chance I get. It has K-tech cartridges and linear springs in the forks, a K-tech Razor RR shock, Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres, and a set of Pazzo adjustable levers. I didn't waste money on an exhaust - as I couldn't see the point given it does nothing performance wise.
My plan is get a r3 ride it for a season maybe 2 then trade it in for a r7 after I’ve got my bearings on 2 wheels agin
I absolutely love my 2020 R3. Fully tuned it’s making 43RWHP, and has a top speed of 124MPH. Amazingly fun bike, and I can’t wait to turn it into a dedicated track bike, enjoy that, and then retire it back to commuting/fun. My next bike will be a chill FZ6 S2, cleaned up, tuned and tastefully upgraded for longer rides, two up, and commutes. I’ll get an R7 secondhand in a few years, and it’ll replace the FZ6.
