@Panzer the tortoise He uploads the videos well in advance, whenever you have a sponsored video from Audible they have to vet the video first before you can post it.
I listened to that red dwarf book recently it was fantastic the second one was great too
Infinity Welcomes Careful Drybrush.
9:04 you got a little audio/clip error. Love ya MWM.
Thank you @Midwinter Minis for making fun and informational video, you inspired me to start my own 40k army (BA) and I can't thank you enough❤
Don't forget to grab the Votann mini of the month to give it the same paint job!! Because, seriously, this might be the best paint job I've seen you do yet. That helmet visor was stunning.
Good idea! I'll have to sneak along to GW Colchester before the month is over
Do you have to buy something to get it?
I've already blown my budget on the Army box and some other hobby bits.
@@ErikWarhammer no its a free mini each month you just go in and ask
@@MidwinterMinis The mini drops tomorrow, you probably won't have very long 😬
This is what enabling addiction looks like😂
I might be wrong, but to me, the Black Gobbo is posing as a little grey alien, Roswell-style, hence the triangular shape of the mask. Doesn't change the fact that it is a great and inspiring paint job, as usual.
that's how the OG was painted
You win the game once you have 40,000 warhammers.
I'm up for the challenge
I lost the game
That horizon reflection in the helmet idea is fantastic
I love the little touches to your music. The acoustic version of one of your many original tracks is a great idea and fits the vibe of the video well.
Little dude looks like the kind of guy who'd charge into battle with a laugh and a bad joke, or chill in the shade with some beers. Perfect character sculpting.
- Last Squat GW ever made.
- Necromunda Squats: are we a joke to you?
I was thinking this 😂
he mentions them in the video
Yes…yes you are
This is not only super cool but crushingly good execution. Holy cow.
The pink neon glow on the warhammer is what really sells the '80s look!
I’ve been struggling with anxiety lately and seeing your donation to calm and watching this video itself made me really happy. My little brother and I love your videos and you have a massive influence on our painting. Keep up the good work Guy and thank you :)
Hang on mate, know this to well.
anxiety im a classsic type 4 mate last time i was sectioned i found that out no idea what it means they prescribed 300mg of a pregabalin twice daily it really helps mat dont if that's what you wold want in your body bot it supports me mat anyway god bless mate keep the breathing exercises going and good luck
What’s nice is that every video, you see Guy gradually improving and trying new things. That non-metallic chrome is really something.
Man this video brought back memories. Just dug out my version of this mini, still sat in the pile of shame 13 years later.
Technically the last squat they made before the Leagues of Votann should be "Ragnir Gunnstein, Squat Ammo-jack" for Necromunda, released sometime 2019.
E: should've watched to the end before deciding to be a smartass. Nicely painted Model.
You can really see the parts of the Squat identity that made it to the new Votann, that helmet in particular SCREAMS Votann. He'd definitely be right at home in a White-Dwarf themed Votann force.
I had a bunch of Squats back in the mid 80's. Lot's of fun.
Thank you , Guy .
🐺
Great, now I've got to find some way to re-watch several seasons of Red Dwarf now.
Currently on Netflix and Amazon Prime in the UK!
Went GW HQ today...first time ever, (not really a GW player), ..Seeing this little figure brought a smile to my face and added a nice little touch to my visit! Thanks MWM.😁😁👍👍
intriguing, i feel mildly jealous
6:01 the dad jokes are there already🤣
Congrats Guy, you’ve finally become a true Warhammer
Dude that visor is wonderful 👌. Can’t wait to see it up close.
I watch Red Dwarf around once a year because it reminds me of my childhood (I think we're about the same age 39) it's a little bitter sweet as it reminds me of my dad which can make me a little sad sometimes, but I'm glad I have those memories and will always love the show because of them. I'd love to see a Red Dwarf game, there's a ton of potential with them being on the red dwarf or going out in starbug to planets, and the weird characters and scenarios would make for really entertaining game options.
OMG The red dwarf book was actually my first experience with Red Dwarf! I didn't even know there was a show until college!
This single model looks better than the whole LOV miniature line...
I guess that's where they took inspiration for Grendles hammer in Necromunda as its almost identical! Awesome!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who, after a similarly mispent childhood, has ended up with splattering of Red Dwarf in their taste of sci-fi. I'd love to see a terrain or modeling project that dips into that grungy BBC practical effects feel
Oh man. I read the first three Red Dwarf books back in High School, back in the last century.
That pink hammer and the reflection in the helmet... *mwah* Perfection!
I find it unreasonably funny how you miss-thinned the (notoriously thick) flesh wash correctly.
Just shows how much easier it is to use modern washes over the old inks.
That helmet visor **chefs kiss**
Really great mini to find and love the overall paintjob 🙌
Flesh wash AKA - jaundice in a bottle 🤣 still have some myself… stays on the shelf haha.
When he was announced at Games Day as the next year’s White Dwarf subscription model there was a lot of people murmuring “Squat”. It was exciting. It was a good Games Day.
Didn’t see new Squats until the Necromunda Squat about a decade later though.
And now it is entombed at GW headquarters in a display case to be seen by everyone forever
In my experience the shade of baby poop varies from that yellow beige, down to darker brown, and sideways to a light grayish green. Depending on the... Manufacturer's... Mood, status and general health.
Had iOS ‘night shift’ mode turned on, so the Oompa Loompa skin looked even oranger - poor chap looked like he had just come back from the tanning salon until you fixed his face and I had fiddled about with the display settings. The end result is absolutely gorgeous, probably my favourite of your paint jobs so far. Glad such special miniatures end up in your hands for us all to see !
Recently binge watched a lot of Red Dwarf episodes, was nice to see it mentioned here, lol
:)
The glowing hammer turned out amazing - well done!
I have about ten of these Grombrindal minis. They were sold to people who subscribed to White Dwarf and had a different theme each year. I have him doing Cecil B Demill, a WWI flyer, one the first was him holding his foaming helmet as if he was in Bugman's Bar. There is the Vampire Slayer but that was fine cast. I have one in Ultra Smurf armour holding a mug of beer and standing next to a birthday cake of equal height in which a gobbo is about to jump out. Haven't painted them all yet. I only risk it when the inspiration hits.
Was really hoping the return of the Squats would have the same style as this mini. Instead we just got mini-primaris marine copies lol
That is the yearly white dwarf exclusive Grombrindle model, which that year they gave a 40k feel
The price was so high because you could only get him by buying the box which was a full years WD sub so if you didn't sub you couldn't get him and he was only available for 1 year because they changed him every year.
You could easily use this in a LoV army as a proxy for a Brokhyr Iron-master. He even has a fancy hammer!
Awesome Job. I Love this Mini.
Absolutely amazing. One of your best minis ever. Please speed paint more boxes or do more videos of these super rarer and hard to find minis. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the inspiration for the helmet visor.
That helmet is stunning!
Wow. That is so good.
That looks incredible!
Pst! Black Gobbo's wearing a grey costume. Like the little grey aliens that people claim to see/get probed by. :D
If you have trouble painting eyes, try a 0,1mm marker. I have been using them to paint all my eyes, and they make the pupil look round+are small enough to reach the eyes better than a brush
The chrome/reflection look has always fascinated me, so thanks for throwing that in!
This is incredible work and easily my favourite model you have painted yet, well done!
That visor effect was awesome!
I have this boxed and wrapped still! Didn't even realise it was worth anything
beautiful work
I was at Warhammer World this weekend and pleasantly surprised to see this guy sitting in one of the cabinets in the store!
The paint job looks just as good in person as it does in the video - awesome work!
Love all these retro paintings
I love White Dwarf miniatures. So fantastic!
beautiful mini Guy!
Always enjoyable to watch you paint Guy, 👍
Awesome job and good ole classic limited model!
Awesome work!!!
ROCK AND STONE YYEEEEEEAAAAAAAA
You did it, you painted the hammer, Guy Midwinter Minis. You really are the Warhammer 40,000
FYI Secret Weapon Washes actually have a wash named Baby Poop; they also have its companion wash, Yellow Snow...
Video should had be called: "Painting FIRST Umpa-lumpa mini GW ever made"
I owe one of this 😁
pretty dang awesome.
Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers is such a surprisingly poignant book. It touches on much more emotional parts than the series ever did. The final segment of Rimmer starting to realise his own failings in his own mind is... it's honestly very moving.
Woah! I have to say I think this might be the best single model you’ve done yet! It looks great!
Well now I have to start a rewatch of Red Dwarf. I'm on the other side of the world (Australia) but grew up with it too, and definitely one of the shows that shaped my sense of humour too.
Flob a dob blib blob blib.
I actually got to see this in person a few months ago, it was awesome to look at, and pretty cool that your work was out on display, quite prominently too ^-^
Fantastic job on a lovely mini!
Every year white dwarf did a subscription offer, and if youbpaid by direct debit, you got the "free" white dwarf model. My memories of the subscription service was dreadful, with magazines never arriving!
Always loved this model. The retro space helmet is so cool, and it's a unique style we haven't seen from the old Squats or the new Leagues of Votann.
That dwarf wanted to Make the Imperium Great Again.
I'm also a huge Red Dwarf fan and I miss the tongue in cheek element of Warhammer. When I played Tyranids I named one of my Carnifexes Mr. Flibble. He was VERY cross.
Nice!!!!!! It looks great.
Oh, my!
That's the best-looking helmet I'm ever likely to see in my life!
Very cool! 👍🏻
What a guy 😀
Looks incredible 👍
Those magenta runes 🤩🤩🤩
Chameleonic alien life forms? NO THANKS!
That was Awesome!
I noticed at 9:04 there was a video error. Not serious enough to warrant a re-upload but look out for it in the future! Good video!
I was checking the comments if anyone else noticed and I actually found that Guy replied to a similar comment "Yeah, annoying but not worth rereleasing the video I suppose", you were spot on haha
"Emergency. There's an emergency going on. It's still going on."
@Midwinter minis I also have one of these in my collection, got mine back in 09 with my white dwarf subscription (which I still have). The effect you did on the helmet viser looks awesome 👌
I wanted to say that your vids have gotten me to finally stop ogling the pretty art in boxes and actually try painting up a 40k army, I am going to be starting with Admech so thanks for all the great tips for painting minis, I am not the most crafty but I felt like a lot the advice you give makes me confident it will work out well, so thanks a bunch!
Just went to Warhammer world today for the 1st time and I'm not going to lie I did kinda fan girl when I saw this mini on the shelf after watching this video a couple of months back lol but it was cool to also see stuff like the Warhammer quest diorama etc I remember seeing in the 90's white dwarfs
Hey Guy, eyes are a pain!!! But someone told me to paint the eye black and then put two white dots in each corner of the eye. Now doing eyes isn’t t scary at all. I highly recommend you trying this technique. Love the videos and I hope this helps!
Dont forget the new squad gang for necromunda. Still called squats
"Hey kids, It's me! Mr.Warhammer!"
This was awesome, now I really want to see you painting the LoV box with this color scheme !
i wish to show you my first time try chrome effect, you did a very great job with this mini, love the blue suit. It have to feel very special to paint a rare mini like this is.
Simon, please forgive Guy. He did an awesome job painting up the guild master.
Squats never skip little leg day.
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
That first wash that you used on the squats face reminded me of nachos.
