amazing!
The Alan partrige film was filled partylin my hometown
I think you do such a awe inspiring job with your painting especially with you being colour blind
Where do you get your Valejo paints
The best thing about Vallejo airbrush primer... it smells like candy after it has been applied (Warning: It's not candy... please do not lick it)
I will lick it
What.. candy are you eating..
I know I've tried it , ate half a bottle but it kinda tastes like burnt almonds
Unless you use the grey primer, smells like piss
I much rather enjoy the smell of Krylon spray can primers.
I can’t believe how close you got to Steve’s panel with a speed painting version. Amazing work Guy.
That turned out great! And to be fair, with the age of the titan and who know's how many generations of technicians that thing has survived through, any differences could be attributed to different teams running upkeep/repairs on the beast.
Knowing the kind of people in the Imperium, one guy will notice, and he will be such a dick about it.
A word on the Vallejo primers:
There is an issue with the ghost grey specifically rubbing or peeling off. The other colours do not share this tendency at all. Their black is superb. Apply it and after 24 hours is cures hard as stone and will be super durable. Polyurethane primers are meant to be giving a long cure time.
Came to comment the second part, need need neeeeeeed that cure time
Iiiiiiinteresting. This explains a LOT. Thank you.
I’ve had the same peeling issue with Vallejo’s black airbrush primer, so it’s not just the grey that does it.
@@tinyfishhobby3138 Never had it with the black. Stuff works super well for me. Did you properly shake the bottle?
@@tinyfishhobby3138 could it be an issue with preparing the paint surface? If it still has the tiniest amounts of mould release, your primer has serious trouble with staying on.
Pretty Close! It’s pretty fooling identical! These results at 1/3 of the time is amaze balls. Great work Guy 👍👏👏👏
FYI Guy, there’s a Reaver here you tricked me in to buying, fancy painting it up for me? 😂
@@LPP_YT I think he has plenty to do as it is
Though I'm sure he'll enjoy doing it if he chooses
You should get Steve on here more often ;) Maybe he could do a "quick tips with Steve" episode once in a while haha. Massive congrats to him btw on his Golden Demon from Mike & Ben here at WiPi!
Or another one like this video. "Here's how a Golden Demon winter paints x. And here's how Guy streamlined it to get 80% of the results in half the time!"
but he was holding a silver demon. is it just top 3 that is called golden demon?
@@lv100Alice I don't know... I've never been to one! Someday I hope :)
@@lv100Alice The first, second and third place trophies are gold, silver and bronze respectively, but they're still "golden daemons" because the awards and competition as a whole are named after citadel's early mascot.
Man the difference in stippling style made me laugh a bit. Like when Steve does it he's stippling the model but Guy basically drowns the model like he's washing dishes.
The Vallejo primers need 12 hours to cure!! Everyone makes mistakes and this is a pretty easy one to make. But the Vallejo primers cure rock hard if you leave them for the proper amount of time.
Baharoth blue with aethermatic blue on top is how I paint my space wolves, glad someone else found out how good that combo looks!
Really enjoying the amount of guest painters with you attempting to replicate/simplify their various styles/techniques.
Cutting out 2/3 the time for almost identical results is a fantastic trade-off! Well done, Guy.
I like the Vallejo primers, but from my experience they need at least a day to cure/fully harden.
They literally do. It says on the back to leave them a full 12 hours to cure due to them being polyurethane based. Once you do let them cure they're the hardest primer I've ever used hands down.
And for some reason, using a hair dryer isn't good enough. Maybe there is a chemical process in the primer, but it seems to need time, not just the evaporation of thinners, to actually cure. I exclusively use Vallejo primers, and I usually let them set for a couple days before I try to paint them after priming.
I got into 40k via WW1 and WW2 tabletop gaming, so I don't have the same attachment to GW products as alot of builders.
painting on Steve's level is like working on any other project. You need 20% of the time to get to 80% of the finished result but 80% of the time invested to get the last 20%.
It's always to consider when it's "good enough" to be comparable but yet not as time consuming as a perfect finish.
Steve's paint job is absolutely astonishing. Yours look terrific on its own but is recognisable in a direct comparison.
In Titanicus Dan Abnett described a chaos reaver walking into war as having joints weeping grease, and meters of rust streaking its armor panels, which were grey from age. its a very unique description that fits your titan
I stopped using Vallejo surface primers. I switched over to Stynylrez & have been very pleased.
Yes! another midwinter minis video. Amazing painting by the way!
I am always amazed by Guy's ability to create such a rich and excellent colour scheme with a mind to speed and convenience.
Well timed video, tonight was a random evening where a few people at the bar discovered we all love miniatures and GW in some form or another and spent a happy hour chatting about everything from blood bowl to myself using a noise marine as a lucky charm. Many UA-cam channels came up including yours as being in Ipswich you're nearly local. So it was great to get home and find a new video from you . If you're ever across the border in Suffolk the Fat Cat has good beer, a chilled atmosphere and more fans of miniature painting and table top games than expected so stick your head through the door. Cracking video as always
I AM SO HYPED FOR THE START COLLECTING DEATH MATCH TO RETURN!!
very interesting way of painting smooth transitions with the sponges, excited to see the next steps
Super excited for the return of the start collecting death match! Those videos were amazing!
I never would have thought to thin the paint to such a degree, but the results speak for themselves. Splendid!
Vallejo surface primer is the only primer I use, mostly because of great british weather lol. You do need to let it cure for about 12 hours after putting it on though, which might be why it came off easily?
I'm also confused about that comment I've never had it rub off after it's cured
Maybe a deadly combo of me not letting it dry long enough and applying it to a (possibly) not perfectly cleaned resin surface.
@@MidwinterMinis probably, I've never tried it on resin but it does feel very fragile if you don't give it enough time
It was the ink. I use the Primer and have No Problem. Touch fit after 15 minutes. Every time i use ink it goes Off easy even after drying over night.
That sponge technique changed the way I paint. All my vehicle are getting this technique. Thank you very much for your help!
You can definitely see the finesse in Steve's paint job.
Who knew the secret was going to be sponges!
The Midwinter Minis version of the Golden Demon paint job works very well on youtube. I'm sure that, in real life, the Steve version has more subtly; however, for us mere mortals, the Guy version looks amazing.
So my mother made me help her paint furniture like this when I was a kid, for a faux-stone finish using big sponges and shading top-down like this. It really turned out nice this is shockingly similar. Great video I'll have to try this!
for the shooting-damage i have an advice: if you google battle damaged tanks, specially those with bullet holes, you will see, that the material is not only going inside and building a hole. part of the metall is going outside (sorry for my bad description, i am not english-native)
Pretty good description, so no problem. You're right, though. A hole like that is going to deform the metal outwards and likely make jagged edges on the outside as well as the inside. Good job catching that!
I liked this video - it gave us "common" painters confidence that we can do what the "pros" do and get good results.
AWESOMEEEEEEE !!!!!!!
Can't wait to see next steps... 😉
Regards
Nice to see Warcolours getting some love. Much underrated paints.
This turned out amazing. Fantastic work and great to see a Golden Demon helping you. Looking forward Hatty video and more titan videos. Keep up the good work.
Fantastic look at Steve's techniques
And also a nice recreation on your own version Guy
Awesome stuff Guy! Painting any mini, big or small, is a massive case of diminishing returns for time put in. If Steve's is 10/10 yours is 8/10. For the time savings that's amazing.
Tbh I wasnt sold on the colour choices, but with the weathering it's really coming together nicely!
Also, AB primer needs a drop of matte varnish added to it, especially if you're adding inks. Makes it much stronger.
Wooaah, I haven't heard this before. I've got to try, I use Vallejo primer myself. Will Vallejo matte varnish apply
Both panels looked amazing! That colour scheme is out of this world man.
I haven't used it on resin, but I did have that same fragility problem with the Vallejo surface primer on metal. Works great on plastic, but I think that's about it.
Best primer I've used so far has to be Mr. Finishing Surfacer 1500. True, you have to deal with the lacquer fumes, but you could always get it in a rattle can and spray outside.
Thank you , Guy .
🐺
Amazing results. Great work 🔥🔥
Really great results.
I paint Adeptus Titanicus, 6mm scale, and a lot of the tricks are similar, but picking up great ideas here :)
This is beautiful and extremely helpful for me. I'm definitely sitting on a knight project for Golden Demon that needs a little bit of oomph and this is just what I needed to see today!
Steve looks like the CHILLEST MATE ever.
There are a lot of useful lessons in this video for painting vehicles. I am currently painting a Warhound and this video was definitely inspiring.
I would say you got 90% of the way there in 1/3 the time. Absolutely a win!
That is a really good job mate. When I saw you slapping on the first sponge I really did think it would be chalk and cheese, but that definitely stands up to inspection.
This is awesome Guy! For bigger models like tanks and flyers and I'd add in even as small as Dreadnoughts too sponging works so well. Have a couple of Leman Russ tanks and Vendetta gunships I need to finish so this will be done to them! Thanks so much!
Those panels look great! I'm looking forward to seeing the effect of a whole Titan's worth of black armour and blue trim.
IIRC Vallejo Surface Primer is supposed to be left for 24 hours to cure before painting on it, so that may be why it underperformed for you. Not so handy for a busy Titan painter!
24 hours is recommended. In my experience, so long as you're not too rough with it you can start base coating in about 2-3 hours depending on how you applied the primer in first place(thinner amount, flower improver, how densely you apply it, etc.). I still suggest waiting at least 5-6 unless you're in a rush.
Part of Guy's issue was also possibly adding black ink to the grey primer. Inks take a while to dry and even then are notoriously fragile. If he continues this method it should be done like traditional batch painting, one step at a time like an assembly line. Prime one day, start texturing the next day, etc. resulting in everything having time to dry and still giving him time to work on other stuff for the channel, at least in theory.
Love the end results! Very close to each other after all is said and done. Keep up the great work on those panels! Can't wait to see more!

anouther great video top of warhammer youtube always watch till the last seckond to hear that awsome music keep up the great work
Love this. I am totally going to try this method ASAP. Your vids are awesome.
I think you did a really good job on that Guy! Looks mint! Can't wait to see it all done!
Great clean one for Halloween!
can't wait to see the rest!! the head is gonna look so menacing!!!
Never seen sponging like that before! Very cool way to build in texture and a gradient.
With the way the Titan will be standing and all the armour on it, it won't be as noticable! Good work! I look forward to seeing more!
Really inspiring video I might give these techniques a try on a smaller scale for my heresy project
Amazing job! You really nailed it efficiently. I’ll try that tech too
Nicely done! For varnishes it might be worth having a look at Vallejo mecha varnishes. It’s made for gundam kits so works well for gaming pieces that will be handled but thins out nicely for the airbrush.
Tron’s one of my favorite movies and this color scheme really hit me hard I love it
I love this, im using it on my ironclad, i thought the big panels might look boring as i dont wanna add to much battledamage but this really mixes things up for my centre piece model. Thanks
Ok, so first i wish i’d seen this before I started my knights. Secondly, this video is an excellent example of why I, an airbrush owner, still prime with citadel sprays. Chaos black is crazy durable.
You got great results, def given me some ideas for an upcoming build
Ho I saw the result on Reddit, couldn't tell the difference between yours and the gold demon award winner, it was mindblowing !
So glad to see warcolours getting some love. This looks fantastic
The trick with vallejo primers is to apply a few coats then leave as long as you can to harden, at least overnight and longer if possible, i tend to prime in batches all in one go then usually leave a few days while i work on the last batch of minis. I've never had a issue if i do this on any material, be in metal, resin or plastic.
Very interesting painting technique at the start, never heard of it before in 10 years of hobby
a Nurgle Oogie Boogie from Nightmare before Sanguinala would be a fun Kitbash.
Great video, love the black and blue!
Hey when it comes to primer - especially *polyeurathane* primer is there is a huge difference between dry and cured. Most primers may feel dry after an hour but they are not cured for around 24 hours. Vallejo polyeurathane primr may take up to a week to fully cure, but when it is cured it is an incredibly durable coating. If you are protecting lead pewter miniatures Vallejo primer is a great choice as it provides a complete skin to keep out oxygen. If you want an air brush primer that dries quickly then you want something like Tamiya laquer based primer.
I can't wait to see this thing finished and on the table
The soundtrack will always make me happy when i hear it, especially the closing track
Really awesome panel!
Woh a goblin mask ! So excited to see this halloween secret project result 🎃
Nice results for the time invested!
The first thought that comes to mind when looking at the mysterious Halloween surprise is “Great unclean one delivering a brutal elbow drop”.
Just me? Kinda looked that way at the clip of the end of the video.
ah! the fine detailed sponge! my favourite :)
I can’t wait until this model is finished
Great video looking forward to the final titan reveal ! Thanks for sharing 👍🍻
This has some really valuable tips. It came out great.
15:05 Halloween theme, with that shape? Clearly it's Oogie Boogie.
Both them panels looked fantastic
Great Video. I have found that the Vallejo Surface primer needs 24 hours to harden. Not very practical but if you know you can prepare the day before.
This series is wonderful!
Haha I see Steve also uses Ikea plastic lids for his paints. Also my first choice for DIY wet palettes.
Looking good, Guy (both versions!) 😊
I’ve found the Vallejo primers need a good 24 hours to cure, especially in cooler temperatures. I swear by them though!
Oogie boogie im excited for a Halloween surprise
You have to let the Vallejo primer cure for 24 hours before painting over it.
I’m impressed!
I love the contrast of the colour scheme.
Happy Little... Titan! 😁
My Mum sent me this video to watch so you have her seal of approval! 😊
Mate, I’d say you nailed that.
Man you guys are so talented
I like his panel better, but I like your trim WAY more. Great vid!
Hey guy just wanted to let you know I just started 40k on Sunday I’m still building the minis but after watching you for two years I decided to take the plunge
Ok, he’s better painter with a sponge than me with the full arsenal. It is trully amazing the knowledge about colour and light besides the hability with the brushes
Your method was very close but the additional time Steve put in is pretty obvious on closer inspection. Given that you’ve painted the skeleton of the titan in your style having the panels match is probably wise. Still, it’s a cool little Easter egg for the finished product to have the Steve panel given he’s been so supportive of the project. Great video as always Guy and Hattie!
Oogie boogie great unclean one. Calling it now
epic video watched it three times epic paint job
