    ======== En Livstid I Krig LYRICS =======
    Men vem saknar mig?
    Så se mig som den
    En make, en vän
Fader och son som aldrig kommer hem
    Men vem sörjer mig?
Gick ut i strid för Sverige, blev döpt i blod
Där ute väntar döden, inte hjältemod
I fält där fränder faller, hörs ingen sång
Utmanar våra öden, ännu en gång
    Långt hemifrån
    Döpas och dö i strid
    Och världen brann
    För kriget det kan
    Förgöra en man
Jag ger mitt liv för mitt fosterland
    Men vem saknar mig?
    Så se mig som den
    En make, en vän
Fader och son som aldrig kommer hem
    Men vem sörjer mig?
Och när min tid har runnit ut
    Vem bryr sig då?
    De kämpar på
Får en soldat ett värdig slut?
    Få somna in
    Försvinna bort
    Och aldrig vakna
    För kriget det kan
    Förgöra en man
Jag ger mitt liv för mitt fosterland
    Men vem saknar mig?
    Så se mig som den
    En make, en vän
Fader och son som aldrig kommer hem
    Men vem sörjer mig?

This is quite possibly one of their most powerful songs, especially in Sweden. As a former soldier myself, plus with several cousins & a few long time friends in the military, this song hits home hard for me & it's damn near impossible to not tear up (honestly, Sabaton has that effect on me). Even today, there are men & women in the military that have grown up hearing about & seeing war all their lives, although the difference is that it isn't at their doorstep like it was 400 years ago in Europe.
It's no surprise that their Carolus Rex album went double platinum, as it is one of their best albums. To think that the Swedish version of the album was basically a bonus, yet it was the main reason most people bought it. The last time I saw Sabaton live in Houston, even that crowd of Texans wanted to hear some of their songs in Swedish (they ended up singing Got Min Uns in Swedish). Every time I have seen Sabaton live, I have never left disappointed.

      Tack ♥

A lot of soldiers brought their families with them. They made up the rear of the army. So you could be born close to the battlefield, grow up in the rear until you were old enough to join the army. And you might be buried in a mass grave and have the blessings read by the same priest that baptized you. That's a life time of war.
Make sure to see the Swedish version of Sabaton History.

The band was playing in Sweden to live Swedish audience it’s only natural they would sing one of their greatest anthem like songs they have on their Carol is Rex album; this is one very powerful song especially to the Swedish people and, even the German people will sing along to it.
However some interesting news atthe Sabaton UA-cam channel; they have announced that in a couple of days, they will be entering the recording studio and they will be recording the latest and newest album so we all have something to look forward to in 2021. Personally I can’t wait

Here's my translation that also goes well with the melody. Let me know what you think.
I turn around to see my homestead fade away
I wish I could have stayed there, just another day
Not yet a man, though called to arms to do my part
Will I see my home again, I wish with all my heart
With kinsmen from my village I went out to war
    In a world of flames
‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man
I give my life, for my motherland
    But who’s missing me?
    So see me as them
    the husband and friend
the father and son, who’s never seen again
    But who mourns over me?
Went out to war for Sweden, baptized in blood
No gallantry awaits us, dying in the mud
In fields where friends has fallen, there’ll be no songs
Our fate once more we challenge, and marching on
    Far away from home
(To be baptized and die in war)
    In a world of flames
‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man
I give my life, for my motherland
    But who’s missing me?
    So see me as them
    the husband and friend
the father and son, who’s never seen again
    But who mourns over me?
And when my time is finally here
    Who’ll sing my song?
    They’re fighting on
I hope to die without much fear
I fall asleep, and fade away
    And never wake up
‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man
I give my life, for my motherland
    But who’s missing me?
    So see me as them
    the husband and friend
the father and son, who’s never seen again
    But who mourns over me?

The first time I ever saw Sabaton live, I was lucky enough to get meet and greet tickets. I asked Chris Rorland how old Tommy was. Chris said why? Does he look young? How old do you think he is? I replied 17? He laughed so hard and said he hears that a lot and that Tommy indeed has a baby face! Hahaha!

One of the most gut-wrenching songs ever done by Sabaton. It maybe about a 30 year war but as usual they bring the human touch that impacts any war. As a veteran this brought me to tears remembering buddies who died during firefights in Nam, those that never made it home and having to visit their loves just so they could know how they died!! The cost for those who fight is well known but those at home pay a toll and even those innocents caught in the middle of such conflicts pay an even higher toll. How many families did we destroy on both sides of those conflicts. Sabaton never ceases to amaze me how they distill the human experience of those historical events and bring to life the dead history you will never get by reading a book. Sad to think of all the experiences since this 30 year war and those today who are going through the same experiences I did as teen dragging my a$$ from rice paddy to jungle and back again. Plato is right only the dead known the end of war. Great reaction as always guys. Hannes just gut punches here like his wife, Floor does with De Beelden Blijven (A Song for War Child) (ua-cam.com/video/e6-6NVsbg6U/v-deo.html), honestly 2 of the most gut wrenching songs any one touched by war will ever experience.

I see you trying not to cry. Wiping away the tears while trying to conceal it. It's ok though, this song is an important reminder of the pain, strife, and struggle of those who endured wars without any assurances of seeing the end of the war, let alone coming home. And those that come home still have to put lives back together, whether theirs or someone else's. It is a ballad that, while having the 30 years war in mind, is dedicated to the memory of all those lost and can extend to who may yet be lost. If that pulls at the heartstrings, weep for the losses and pain that your fellow man has endured for the sake of ideas, security, a better world, their fellow man, and more. Weep and learn to respect those who have fallen and continue their legacies to make a better world.
Sadly, it took me almost 24 years to learn that there is no shame in tears wept well, only in tears wept in vain.

There are examples of families having all males except those under 15 and those above 40 getting "signed into" the army. The survival rate was at times 3 years in army. This one example i'm thinking of is. A women having her husband, her brothers, her husbands brother all signed into the army leaving her with 2 children on her hip and the grandparents. 15 years later those two children she had was also signed into the army, all of them died except for her brother who came back with one leg and one eye.....

This is a song that cut really deep. Especially for a vet like me whos done two tours in Afghanistan with the Swedish armed forces or anyone who served really.
This song is about the 30 year war in Europe. If you think about it, let's say you left a 15 year old boy and against all odds you survived the war, you returned home at the age of 45. Hence it is called a life time of war.

The village supplied a home , food, clothes ,weapons ,and other provisions. When the call came these hardened and very well trained warriors defeated vastly superior forces.

Back then in Sweden you didn't sign up, you could but most weren't. The Master of the cottage/farm you worked/lived at had and obligation too deliver one or more soldiers for the army ranging on the size of the cottage/farm. Or something like that. It was later replaced by the Conscription that is still used to day in Sweden.

In Sweden you don’t sign up gor the military service, in the past that was mandatory to do for Swedish men. The government took that away appr 10-15 years ago, but it comming backa again now (far from everyone are called in for military service thou). So at that time you just was called by the king to fight for your fatherland and king!

Barracks is where one would sleep but that would be more or less a bunker or underground section of the trench network. Could be a barracks or a command bunker (most troops slept in the open and only the NCOs got the cozy bunkers unless they were German)

20% of swedens male population died during the 30 year war, the country was ruindand and all of the land that Sweden had coquerd was lost, it was a total disaster

No, they read the right lyrics. Maybe you know the engish version but the swedish lyrics is very different to that one. And this was the swedish version.

I think these lyrics are good. When you do a translation it should not just be from one language to another, it should also be "sing-able" and not too quirky. This text ticks both those boxes. Cheers / B.
