I'm 61 and just recently started to listen to Sabaton! I just feel so energized! And I'm going to see them with my son, in Helsingborg Sweden January 2022! So happy🤘
Congratulations..... and you get to see them on home field advantage that show will be AMAZING!!!!
@@OldSkuleNerd My son couldn't believe his eyes when I sent him the tickets! And yes, it will be crazy good to be in the audience! Have to go and gear up now, a vest and some tatooes!😂Thanks for your great reactions. Love from Sweden
@@AgnetaBorgKristensson Where can I get tickets :D? Vart hittar man biljetterna ^_^?
Same here, I'm 65 and have also just experienced them. They are the new Kings of metall! They are so talented
@@mlhus På 70-talet när jag var tonåring, lyssnade jag mkt på hårdrock, börjar hitta tbx till det igen. Yes they are so good🤘
Rough translation for anyone wondering.
I turn around and see my home disappear
My time back at home now feels to me, far too short
Only a youth, barely a man when duty called.
If I will see my home again, That I do not know
Among kinsmen from my village, I went out into battle
And the world burns.
Because the war it can
Destroy a man
I give my life for my homeland
But who will miss me?
So see me like this
A husband, a friend
Father and son who never comes home
But who mourns me?
Went out in battle for Sweden, was baptized in blood
Out there, death awaits, no heroism
On the fields where kinsmen fall, no song is heard
Challenging our destinies, once again
Far from home
Be baptized and die in battle
And the world burns
Because the war it can
Destroy a man
I give my life for my homeland
But who will miss me?
So see me like this
A husband, a friend
Father and son who never comes home
But who mourns me?
And when my time has run out
Who will care?
They fight on
Does a soldier get a dignified end?
Fall asleap.
Fade away
And never wake up
Because the war it can
Destroy a man
I give my life for my homeland
But who will miss me?
So see me like this
A husband, a friend
Father and son who never comes home
But who mourns me?
Because the war it can
Destroy a man
I give my life for my homeland
But who will miss me?
So see me like this
A husband, a friend
Father and son who never comes home
But who mourns me?
Im Norwegian, and this song makes me sing Swedish along with the crowd every time
As a dane, I do the same.
Despite all the wars that have taken place between our Nordic countries hundreds of years ago. Can we today live together in peace and harmony with open borders as Nordic brothers and sisters. If only the rest of the world could follow. 🇸🇪🇳🇴🇮🇸🇫🇮🇩🇰
Samme her :)
Me too. My voice was shot after their Oslo gig.
@@Bergelme Today we have this brotherly rivalry, there is nobody we would rather beat than each other but once we are out of a tournament we are cheering for each other again.
Dang, you should have turned on subtitles for this one-- the lyrics are VERY DEEP
Yeah it's emotional, when a soldier dies, who cares in the end?, you're still gone.
+1 on that, if not native Swede, use subtitles for this amazing video
I mean I know where you're coming from, but you could also just listen to the song in english again "A Lifetime of War".
Then you know what it's about ;)
yeah but some of the subs are kind of hit and miss.
@@DaZwaehn The English version has a totally different story, much better in Swedish
I live in New England. I don't speak Swedish. And yet, I know the lyrics to this song and can sing it. In Swedish. I learned it a few years ago (long before this show). The whole Carolus Rex album is in my opinion one of the best, if not the best.
🙌🙌🙌
The song contain several words that (to my knowledge) can't be translated to English.
There is official subtitles in English to this song, but they don't do it justice.
The most noteble is 'faderland' which easily translates to 'fatherland'. The subtitles just say 'home county' but that isn't the same.
In the Swedish language we have fatherland, motherland and home country.
Motherland= the country where you grew up.
Home country= where you currently live.
Fatherland= the place where you got your religion, ideology, culture and mentality from.
One example: "Swedish" people fighting for ISIS might be Swedes in every way exept their fatherland.
Right or wrong, fatherland is the place/country you're prepared to fight and die for (how you wish that all countries was). Yes, this was a simplification!
My personal Fatherland is Denmark but i never lived outside Sweden!
This album is something brilliant in Swedish. I do not speak this language, translated online, but this song, Carolus Rex and especially Gott mit uns grasped me in their language
This was the last concert for me before shutdown, and what a concert it was. Both Amaranthe and Apocalyptica where great, but this song was one of the best concert experiences I've had. My goosebumps get goosebumps from it.
Same, i was sitting in the back in section C, sang my hearth out to this song hell.. my entire row did xD
Same! But in Sthlm
Same here. I was down in the middle. A memory for life! The only thing that equals it is my first ever concert, Thin Lizzys farewell tour back in -83. Funilly enough also in Scandinavium.
I went to Hamburg for the show
I´ve seen them in that Tour in Hamburg
Love this song! Just wish you'd have the captions on. The lyrics are really powerful.
It was the same in stockholm and honestly it was amazing being part of the crowd singing our hearts out with all the lights!
I don't think I could sing on if I was Joakim. It would micdrop, sit down and cry. It is so unreal yet so fantastic.
When I'm at a concert and the crowd stars singing, I shut up cause I want to listen. It feels like floating on the waves of an ocean. But the water is then people and the waves are their voices.
Was there with my son.
Unbelievable show. Almost crying while im watching this livestream now 🌹🌹
WOW 😲
😢 every time I hear this song and I don’t even understand the language.
Now I’ve read the lyrics, it’s even more powerful.
The written lyrics (in English) is simplefied to avoid writing a text that takes hours to read.
Some words can't be translated and this song contain several such words.
Simply said: it's about fighting for your belief (not for the king or country or even family). DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE!
The Swedish word 'faderland' is cultural (my God, my belief, my ideology..). The English translation is 'my home country' 👎
As a native speaker i know the exact meaning. Do or die!
Thank you 😊 I requested this and I was in the audience. I live just outside of Gothenburg. Much love from a deputy mayor.
You say wow even though you don't understand the lyrics. That's good songwriting! You have no idea how much wow this is! Watch it with captions on! The lyrics are very strong and emotional!
Sweden was attacked by the rulers of todays Denmark, Germany, Poland, Lituania and Russia simultaneously (Estonia and Latvia was a part of Lituania, and Norway was a part of Denmark). We/Sweden did however rule Finland.
This song is about ONE person that was called to defend his culture and king (the king was said to be chosen by God).
Against overwhelming forces, Sweden/Charles XII/ Karl XII/ Carolus Rex subdued everyone except Russia (close but no cigar).
I know Swedish and history. This is my favorite song ever ('Carolus Rex' is nr 2).
Who could argue with 'i don't listen to the church, i was chosen by God' (a bold statement for a 15y old).
The lyrics are so deep! Its such an emotional song.. :)
This is the most powerful song for me from Sabaton. The lyrics (not the English version) is so strong. Even if it is about a war ling time ago, as a soldier and a veteran this song.. well you know what I mean.
What a great reaction!🤘😊 You're very much welcome to Europe, and Sweden, when you get the chance! 🇸🇪
Great reaction OSN!
Although having heard this song at least 100 times it always moves me. I discovered Sabaton during the pandemic, so I am relatively new to the party. Their songs always tell a great story and the lyrics usually have deeper meaning. I am so happy I will be able to see Sabaton live about 100miles from my home on April 2nd, 2022. They are the head-liners and the arena will be similar in capacity to this one only not in Sweden. It will be awesome since Sabaton has a quite a big following in Germany.
Just bought ticket for Sabatons concert in Copenhagen next march with The Hu and Lordi and as support.
such a cool line up!
Reminds me Wacken when Blind Guardian plays Hansi Kurtch doesn't need to sing he just needs to show up to be the hype man
P.S I don't care who you are you can't help but get choked up, teary-eyed and chills after seeing this
men that dont get tears in their eyes seeing this dont have a beating heart. Imagine being the band, standing up there and seeing such a huge crowd go nuts. That must have been the best moment of their lives
As a vet the lyrics of this song just rock you....they speak to anyone who has ever served in battle no matter the war, here the 30 year war (1618-1648) but it is about every war before and since. While the English translation is not exact the theme is in your face. The fear and terror of war destroys not just those in it but those that have a loved one serving. That is what makes Sabaton so magical, history isn't a dusty book full of stories, it is the human experiences of those that were caught up in those moments and long forgotten, but no to Sabaton as they bring alive the full human emotions of those moments and the impact it had on those involved. Enjoy the show Doug, be safe and catch the memories in your ears not just your camera!!!
In your own time watch it with caps if you have not yet done so. The translation might not be perfect but do the trick. Should be watched while you cut onions so you have something to blame
I think this is the 5th time I've watched this exact reaction and you've made me a Sabaton fan! 😅😇
The part about this song that always intrigued me was that the Swedish and English versions of this song tell 2 different view points of the same story. Swedish being from the view point of a soldier being sent to the war, and the English version being an outsiders perspective.
Fantastic reaction to a fantastic song. Amazing to see you enjoy this so much! I am so pumped for you to see Sabaton. You will enjoy it so much. We get them to Helsinki in April! So going to be there!
As you said about live concerts, when the crowd gives back the same energy as the band provides then it’s epic. Queen live aid is amazing and so is this performance ( hate that i missed it cause i was home with stomach poisoning 😂🤢) but for me Iron Maiden Rock in Rio will forever be in my opinion and heart the best live performance ever. That’s a 2h show i can rewatch so many times and still get chills👊 hope to see you next show in Gothenburg then 🤘🏻😊
I can promise you as someone who lives in Georgia, and has seen countless of their shows and met them several times, they ALWAYS put on the best show whether they are the headliner or not. Best live shows I've been to
This was one of your best reactions for Sabaton I've seen! 10/10 :)
Great reaction man, but you should have put the caption on as the lyrics are so captivating and so universal. Any veteran would be crying listening to this
I am swedish, I live in Gothenburg, I LOVE Sabaton and I was there!!! One of them there was me =)
i Speak swedish and i can say this is an epic song no matter who you are :)
damn this has just gone into my top 10 live songs, actually got a tear running down my cheek and I dont know why
Beautiful reaction!
propably there will be more Sabaton fans , the Sabaton divisions are powerful.
When they played little rock arkansas on their first ever us tour this is how it was, even on a very small stage they put on a hell of a show, they were the reason I went
Just redo the reaction with the captions ON, it’s a MUST!
Agreed 100%, you Don't do this song and Not have the subtitles turned on... that's a class A felony right there. 😄😄
I am absolutely with you:
A crowd interaction like this is so intense and gives me goosebumps and shivers all over my body.
As a concert photographer I am sometimes also doing stage shots and seldom I could something similar to this experience from Gothenburg.
"Fury in the Slaughterheouse" are a German Rock-Pop band from Hannover. In 2017 they played three sold out 30th anniversary shows in front of 12.000 people each time. I did full shows and when the played e.g. "Time to wonder" it was like here. And although I was only the photographer taking the shots and it was such an incredible experience seeing and hearing the crowd from on stage. And as I grew up with their music and as I knew the lyrics word by word it was so difficult not to sing withe the fans and the band.
They’re on tour next year 👍 going to see them again at Wembley. They’re the best live band I’ve ever seen. Nothing will ever beat sitting down rowing at wacken during Swedish pagans though
I get goosebumps every time I hear this song. I totally love it!
I absolutely LOVE IT when the crowd participation is that f**king loud that the mic it up. You can even hear it when he finally starts singing the first verse, the crowd are still able to be heard underneath the guitars and that. It gives me chills just listening to that energy and full on go-for-it attitude from the crowd.
I’m so glad I found sabaton years ago. Their music just pulls every heart string and builds up so much emotion. They’re excellent at putting you in that moment of history and really feeling the lyrics. Usually that is what instrumental music does for me, it gives the listener the paint brush to create what ever scene they want but sabaton are just excellent artist!!
I was there😃....Goosebumps..
Great reaction, thank you🤘🇸🇪
Great reaction man, I was there in Gothenburg and get goose bumps every time I watch the live video. Keep it up, Brgds from Sweden
Wait until you'll see Sabaton's "82nd all the way" on US soil, it'll be absolutely amazing too, and wish I'd be there
I was there with friends and it was the best Valentines day ever ❤️
If you want an amazing Sabaton experience I would recommend trying to get on the Sabaton Cruse, it is a 2 day cruse ship in December with Sabaton, it is not as big of a crowd like this and no pyrotechnics as it is on a boat but it is filled with hardcore fans that are very friendly. The band will talk allot of Swedish during the performance but on the boat you will make do with English as it isn't just Swedes but people from all over.
Oh no OldSkule, you didn't have the captions on... you would have had a tear in your eye in the end if you had. 😉👍
If you really want to see the Swedish rock scene you should go to Sabaton open air in Falun at the autumn every year.
Just bought my tickets for their show in stockholm next year. 🤘🏼 I'm jealous you got to see Pantera live tho. 🤘🏼🍻🇸🇪
Yeah more Sabaton !
To Me! As a Vet the lyrics of this song hits home, it's all about the fathers, sons, husbands and friends who don't come home.
Also, they are really nice guys, very mellow and good
This song is about the 30 years war, a war were swedish men lived a lifetime at war as 30 years was the average age of man back in those days. The swedish version is from a swedish soldiers pov and the english from a european pov. It was that world war before world wars. It was huge. I bet a lot of american descendants ancestors fled europe exacly because of this war.
Edit: Swedne was an empire back then, believe it or not Fuinland was a part of Sweden back then too so one has to keep that in mind that when talking about sweden back then, we also mean what is Finland today.
Very beautiful and painful at the same time. With the lyrics showing it says what their singing and it’s 30X more powerful. It’s about going off to war and not coming back with your loved ones at home. It’s a very beautiful and emotional song. :) only the Swedes can come up with something this powerful.
Well, it is in Sweden, and En Livstid I Krig is the Swedish Version of probably the most Swedish song Sabaton ever wrote [the struggles of Swedish soldiers in the first Great War, the 30 year war].
It is the best possible setting. But still, that crowd is amazing.
I don't know what it is but rock/metal in Swedish is such a good fit, Hammerfall did as song by Roger Pontré years back called När vindarna viskar mitt namn as a metal version and i had goodbumps all over, when i get it on my upper body something is really good but when i get it all over it's fucking great! Sabaton is growing on me, spitting out epics songs like a factory!
You're more than welcome to Sweden! We love metal!
it's a powerful song
Been waiting patiently for this one 😊🤘
just heard this song today as it came up on a youtube mix, great crowd interaction
Hm Göteborg (Gothenburg) is far away from their hometown. Sweden is a long country. But same country and yes al understand the lyrics. And yes we share this history of war and lifeloses even if we the last decades have had peace. But this song about our ancestors cross the heart. I cry every time listen.
Great reaction. Thanks!
I will say this as concert after concert has been, or in my case in Australia is still being cancelled. Yes seeing this in Sweden would be bloody amazing. But seeing this anywhere, that is good enough. I'd be in Texas if I could and I'd scream my mangled Swedish if they played this, right along with you. Have a ball mate, envy you.
Bruce dickinson once said a remark about ozzfest after being in sweden just before, its not like having 10.000 vikings singing your songs. So it might not just be that it is the homecrowd, we know how to sing to good music! ;)
My last gig was Sabaton at Wembley Arena in London before covid lockdown, supported by Amaranthe and Apocalyptica. Yesterday I bought tickets for March 2022 at Wembley again and I am beyond excited!!
So epic, one of my favorites from Sabaton. Great reaction as always 👍😀
Have a great time at meeting Sabaton. You should get over here and experiense Sweden :-) Take care brother.
im gonna see them in 2 weeks which will be amazing!
You should react to it again with subtitles! They are hella deep since the swedish version of the song focuses on the perspective of a soldier, instead of the battle as a whole.
Thankyou for a truly great reaction of one of my absolute favourite bands...
I'm from Switzerland and the first time I went to see them was in 2016 in Lausanne, they didn't sold out It was my best concert experience, saw them again before covid in 2020 in Zürich, people from all Switzerland went there and it was fantastic
Great reaction!
Enjoy the show, you're in for a treat (even if they are the opener I think many are there for them too).
This song have two episodes of Sabaton History, just like the song tells two stories, in two languages, so does their history channel.
I’m so sorry for your list😭.❤️❤️
there will be sabaton in my country in 10.5.2023 there will be in 12500 person arena there are like 90 tickets left now :D
This one is from the Carolus Rex album, so it has both a Swedish and English text. But unlike most of the other songs (except 1648) it's not the same in Swedish and English.
The Swedish version tells the story of the 30 years war from a Swedish soldiers point of view. The English Version takes a wider view, from a neutral observers point and talks more about the politics of the war. (1648 is about the siege of Prague, the English version is from the inhabitants point of view, the Swedish version is from the Swedish soldiers point of view)
I'm not cry, you cry! 😭😭😭❤
This is one of my 9 year old daughters favorite songs. And my own favorite live performance.
You are amazing 😁😁🌹
SABATON IS ALWAYS AMAZING POWERRRRR 💥 🔥 🤘
I love this band! I saw them in Wacken two years ago and in january they'll play in my hometown, ON MY BRITHDAY!!! 😁🤘
i was there in Gothenburg! Amazing show. You will love the town of Gothenburg if you go there. Keep up the good work!
Nice reaction.
Dude man, i was at an iron maiden concert at the olympic stadium in helsinki and sabaton was one of the warmups along with Ghost, i tell you, i was a bit disapointed when maiden took the stage, coz sabaton delivered. My buddy first introduced me to it in like 2008 or something with Primo Victoria and the d-day footage on youtube. I went a small-venue concert in Rytmikorjaamo in Seinäjoki, Finland, altough i was hammered as fuck, it was a great experience when brought in some 1800 century soldiers for their swedish songs. Im just telling you, even if you listen to them as warmups for judas priest, wich btw is a great band, youll not get disappointed 🤟
Epic.
I know you will enjoy the show in Dallas. This is a awsome band. I hope that you will be able to see them here in Sweden. I was in that crowd and i get goosebumps every time i see this video.
That keychange at around 13 mins really steps it up a notch
Sabaton, Powerwolf, Amon Armar live, in Europa - Summer Breeze, Wacken, Etc. - next year / miss it
Like you said, they put on an awesome show! Love the energy!
Saw them i gothenburg opening for Iron Maiden. The singers smile when the crowd sings along. I shit you not, it went from ear to ear and you could see him thinking: oh my god this is so cool!!
🤘I started listening to Sabaton last year or so with Bismarck, now I can not wait ti see them in Glasgow, Scotland at the SSE Hydro, March 22nd 2022 🤘
hometown is Falun ;)
If only people we're as good at pointing out the importance of turning on the captions if the video have it as they are att recommending the video itself. I'm subscribed to many of the best and most popular reaction channels and funny enough those I've seen doing this video with captions and other videos where captions are recommended has mostly been less popular channels I'm not subscribed to yet, because they were told and reminded by their subscribers beforehand :P We can only blame ourselves on this.
Yes hometown....but whatch the woodstock / Poland perfomance or the russian one.... i guarantee you will be suprised how much love this band gets, and well if you got the cash come to sweden and watch them theyre awesome
You have The Best Words .... Live Enegie can be epic if both sides are giving the Best.
💚✌👍from Germany
One of the Best reactions...top 💯
Well said!
@@OldSkuleNerd you should watch this video with the English subtitels, it makes all more awesome and deep
For me personally. I think this was your best reaction video to date. I never thought 82nd all the way or Bismarck would be beat. But hey. You live and you learn.
It's always something special if you see such a big crowd interact. And as you mentioned Queen ... take a look at "Greenday Crowd sings Bohemian Rhapsody live in Hyde Park 2017" ... as they stated in the comments: Queen is the only / on of the few bands who doesn't have to appear to give concerts ;)
The best way to describe this as a Swede, is Swedish Pride. Plain and simple, there is not a single nordic citizen who doesn't know who Sabaton is.
The 30 Years´ War was a religous war between protestants and catholics beginning in 1618 and ending 1648. Combined with this war are some other conflics, like the last phase of the duch independence war against Spain (1568-1648), a war between Spain and France and between France and Austria. Leader of the catholic league was Austria, leader of the protestant union were frist the duke of the palatinate, then the King of Denmark and then the King of Sweden (Gustavus Adolphus the Great, Sabaton is a swedish Band !) Main battlefield was the Holy Roman Empire (approx. Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and Austria today). Since it was mainly a religious war, the war parties fight to the bitter end, and conscript every man to the army they could find, this can also be 14, 15 or 16 years old boys. In this time a soldier could be for years away from home. (The situation described in the Song).
After the war, more than one third of the german population was dead. 50% of the land was devasted.
In 1648 the parties signed a peace in Münster, Westphalia, not because there was a victor, but because they had not the power to sustain the war. The peace cemented the independence of the protestantic faith, it lays also the fundament of the modern international law.
If you want to have another experience like this:
Blind Guardian at Wacken 2016 with "The Bard's song & Valhalla". It will blow you away as well. I get tears every time seeing this.
And if you are quite while passing Wacken ground, you can still hear them singing
Love the reaction :) just wish u watched with subs, the song is so beutifull :)
OMG Optimus Prime behind you. I want!
Its 500 km from where they come from to gothenburg. Home crowd...
